This is the very reason I want LotSB. Shep gets some very good action-y cutscenes as well as some reconsilation (sp?) with Liara. I like it when we get to see our FemShep kick a little butt in cutscenes instead of standing around and talking, but that's just my two cents on how I like my Shep portrayed.

Indeed. The confrontation and battle with the Shadow Broker features Shepard engaging in some good old-fashioned fisticuffs during cutscenes, in addition to the more standard firearm usage witnessed throughout the rest of the game. I actually like the fact that she fights the Shadow Broker in hand to hand combat, as it gives the battle a more personal feeling. This is particularly appropriate, especially when considering the fact that he attempted to sell Shepard's corpse to the Collectors. In a way, she's settling a score with him, and fighting alongside Liara to do so was an excellent touch, considering that he has been an adversary for both characters. Love it!

LotSB also contains some excellent character development and progression for Shepard, too. She lowers her barriers to Liara, and displays some emotional vulnerability when she confides in her, and reveals that she is not the infallible hero that she has been painted as throughout ME2. Furthermore, the relationship between Shepard and Liara, regardless of romance, is also addressed. In a way, the whole Shadow Broker/Feron plot is almost a vehicle for the true focus of the DLC: the development and reconciliation of the relationship or romance between Shepard and Liara. Both characters receive excellent character development. If we're focusing on Shepard, she is reunited with her close friend and possible lover, and we're also given some insight into just how unsure/angry, and lonely she is. It's very telling that, regardless of romance, Shepard will always quietly ask Liara to come back soon. Excellent writing, and I love this development of Shepard's character.

I should stop rambling!

@Guardian: I've not managed to get through a ME1 playthrough with a maleShep yet (although I do have every intention - when I get the time). I have heard many recordings with Meer's voice though. I do have a preference for Hale because, like you, it's the voice I am more accustomed to listening to. It's hard to put my finger on exactly why I prefer it. Since I tend to lean towards Paragon (usually), most of the lines Hale's says do have that warmth others have referred to. There's also this assured confidence in the way she says things that doesn't come accross (to me anyways) as cocky or arrogant.

I am a fan of Meer's snark though. He pulls off arrogant, jerky, snarky Shep very well.

And, here's another shot of my main Shep. Running into an "old friend".

Really? My assault rifleless Adept always uses one during the second fistfight with the Shadow Broker at the end of the DLC. Hmmm. Next time I play through LotSB, I'll take a closer look.

As an aside note...I love Jennifer Hale's voice acting during the confrontation with the SB! ^_^

Shepard still uses an assault rifle and the hand cannon in LotSB no matter what, even if you're using the Predator or M5 Phalanx you still draw the hand cannon during the confrontation with the Shadow Broker. During one of the melee fights with the Shadow Broker you will always use the butt of an assault rifle, if your character does not have assault rifle training you'll use an M8 otherwise it's the rifle you have equipped. At no point do you use a shotgun for instance, even if you have Claymore training.

I'm almost done with my super canon playthrough of ME1, so I should have a "perfect" level 60 import for Danielle when I'm done. Here's a few of the best shots I've got, I'm very picky but it works for me.

I like it when you ramble though! I like it when we as fans go indepth into these kinds of scenes and wonder about our characters motivations and things. It's all so wonderfully creative and interesting.
Yeah, it seems like, regardless of whether you romance her or not, Liara's sort of Shep's friend and companion, more so than any other. (Well, I suppose Garrus is too, as is Tali. Wrex and the VS....hmmm, I dunno.)
Their conversation within Shepard's cabin was just...CHOCK FULL of characterization, from the comments about tags (I'd thought I never see these again/It seems like forever since I was an Alliance Solider)
I LOVED the lower option on the dialouge wheel where Shep talks about her frustrations, about people not believing her and her closest friends and the Counicl not trusting her. THAT made me livid, because I loved the characterization we get to express here. I'm watching the scene right now, and I love the camera work here too.
Liara: "When the Reapers come, you'll dive into the fray. *camera pans upward, so we're veiwing Shep's cabin from a window, with Liara gazing upward.*

Vanguard or Adept with shotgun training? Regardless, I love the biotic pose she has here. Wish it was still implemented in ME2. Isn't this the Pull animation for Squadmates?

I preferred LOTSB before the SM for a Liara romancing shep to be honest.

Though I loved LOTSB for allowing Shep to actually express some from of emotion.

Like for my cannon shep I picked: Im worried, followed by "What good did it do?"

That made the DLC really epic.

While I agree on Liara, I don't agree on Garrus and partly Tali.

You don't have to recruit Garrus in ME1 and if you chose not to romance him in ME2, you get about two conversations with him.

Tali is forced on you as a player if you chose the Renegade dialogue option and you don't part on good terms if you don't hand over the Geth data in ME1. She also doesn't  have many conversation if you don't pursue a romance with her.

Wrex is by far the most enthusiastic to see Shepard again on Tuchanka.

And why shouldn't the VS be a friend? Even if you do not romance Ash or Kaidan, it is very obvious on Horizon how much they both care about Shepard.

(This is not to say that I dislike either Garrus or Tali.)

Tip: If you want to disable lod for characters (and maybe objects) just add SkeletalMeshLODBias=-2 under [SystemSettings] in ME2. Same thing works in ME1 too, no more crude transitions form low poly characters to high quality ones. Trilinear=True (add that too) gives better texture filtering since for some reason Bioware likes to keep bilinear filtering as default. ParticleLODBias=-2 doesn't make things worse either. I changed to ME1 to use VSM shadows instead, which I prefer over poorly dithered branching PCF shadows.

That looks really good!  Where do I go in the files and what values do I change to accomplish all this?

Sorry if I didn't make any sense. Pay me no heed. I think what I was aiming for was that, no matter what, it seemed like Shep always has Liara as a companion, whether friend or lover and I sort of thought Garrus and Tali fit in that same category...then I remembered that you didn't have to recruit Garrus. Ahaha, my goof.
Yeah, sometimes I get a little scatterbrained.

i actually don't mind that liara was "forced" on shep as a friend for a few reasons:

1 - LotSB. i didn't care for her much before that, but after, it really made her shine. the VS need similar treatment.

2 - liara truly had nothing left after shepard picks her up on therum - no research station, no family after noveria - nothing.

but mostly: 3 - liara saw into shep's mind. even non-romanced liara looked into shepard's head and saw visions - and probably saw other things, too. to know that shepard suddenly downloaded all this info about the reapers and didn't go insane from it has to be intriguing. it also implied to me that liara saw an inner part of shepard and admired it.

4 - liara crushed on shep no matter what - probably because of #3. whether shep reciprocated or not, she obviously had strong feelings for shepard

so 5 - when she goes to save shep, it makes sense. it's as much about bringing back the only person with the means to end the reapers as it is to save a human who died before her time, in liara's opinion

so yeah, liara as canon-friend makes sense to me. one nice part of getting ninja romanced and the confrontation scene was being able to get the line "can we please be friends" from liara. it was really sweet, and it made me like her all the more.

Gah! Noah's face is so awesome yet so intimidating, I love it. She's really got this intense face, and it's one of the most unique out there. Though, couldn't you hack Ash's hair style in the first game?

@Sage

Yes, I agree! Liara saw into Shep's mind, and they unraveled the mystery of the beacon's vision together. I'd imagine that she also saw little fleeing memories of Shep's past and military history. This makes me think that, when she talks about looking up your personal history, she must have seen a few scattered flashes of a Shep on Elysium, Akuze or Torfan that piqued her interest, so she wanted to find out more.

See, now, I knew I had forgotten one other class/training combo when I commented. Still, I love the pose, I love  the biotics, and I love shotguns! I just don't like the skillsets that Vanguards have, ME or ME2. Hence why I take the SG advanced training while on the Collector Ship.

Yeah, I really wish others could see this too.  Liara's 'obsessive' hunt for Shepard's body was more than about friendship, as she believes Shepard is the only one that can lead the fight against the Reapers.  But a surprising amount of people only see it as Liara's crazy/obsessive love for Shepard that drives her, and nothing practical like this.

That's great...I do like to hear LIs still wanting to be your friend even if you don't pick them.  As I said before, I hate cattiness/cat fights, and I hope ME3 doesn't go that route.  I think ME1 did a great job with the Kaidan/Liara 'confrontation'.   I don't really like to even use that word, given it's negative connotations.  They both act like mature adults during the entire thing.

People can say what they like about it, but in ME2 Garrus was my favorite romance choice.
The ending is so well done and that means a lot because usually I laugh at anything overly romantic.

The music, body language, expressions on Shep's face as she shows concern, humor, and sadness, plus Brandon K's VO really won me over.

Dont care how many manly points it cost me to say it but I really found it sweet.

I liked the Garrus romance. I'm a big
sap, and always found it sweet when he would basically say that so many
things have already gone wrong in his life and he just wanted something
to go right for once (horrible paraphrasing there btw)

Valagil wrote...

From what I've read and watched, the
Garrus romance does seem sweet. I can see why some Shepard's would go
for him. The romance initially comes off as incredibly awkward, but I
imagine they get past that relatively soon.

Garrus' romance is fantastic.  Yes, Garrus is the baddest of the Mass Effect badasses, but what really makes it is that it takes him completely out of his element and removes the badassery from him.  It starts off kind of... well, Shep just comes right out and propositions him, and because he's a turian and turians seem to do this a lot more casually than humans, in general, he accepts and that's all it is at first; two good friends planning on "stress release".  But because of their history together and Garrus' respect for her, and his general lack of non-battle-related social skills, it also comes off as hilariously awkward (the inimitable "popping the heat sink" blunder comes to mind).  But at the end it's incredibly touching, because we see that Garrus is awkward due to his scars; not the ones on his face, but the ones on his soul.  When Shepard strokes her hand over his damaged plates, it's not his face that she's touching.  There is so much communication going on with that simple wordless caress.  Of course this means two-thirds of femShep's available romances have her playing the intimate psychotherapist (and the third one is pretty much pure lust, yawn), but in Garrus' case it can be forgiven because the symbolism is so powerful.  The romance starts mostly on physical terms (ironically, as there's nothing physical going on yet) and is lighthearted and awkwardly funny, but ultimately progresses to something very deep and moving.  It's just too bad that they didn't show more than a little busking of the forehead; they didn't even let the love theme music finish playing before cutting it off, for Reaper's sake.  Still, it remains my favorite ME2 romance outside of LOTSB, despite the abortive ending.

I have a very hard time not romancing Garrus with Jessica, especially before LOTSB came out.  He's the closest and most trusted person she has for almost the entire game, and he's almost as damaged and lonely as she is, so the connection runs deep.  He's also the only male creature she's ever actually wanted to have sex with (which is saying a lot, since given her history Jessica pretty much dislikes everything about sex).  I waffle back and forth on whether she should stay 100% faithful to Liara, and I get the feeling that every time the choice comes up for her it could go either way.  She actually did go for him on one playthrough.  I think ultimately the reason she doesn't is that she cares too much about him and Liara both to put them in a situation where they'll all three end up getting hurt.

His voice is freaking hot, though...

Thank you, love! I think you can but I'm not too sure. But I liked the idea of her hair growing out between ME1 and ME2 so that she could put it into a bun.

Are you kidding?!  She looks so dainty and delicate and, in my personal opinion, a pretty-but-not-beautiful girl-next-door kind of face, and it's easy to think of her as frail.  But then you get her in other shots and combat situations and certain angles, and suddenly that fine-boned face of hers is just terrifying.  I can totally buy her as a femShep that would be able to stare down a batarian without even trying.

Although I always attempt to avoid the love interest "confrontation" in ME1 due to the fact that I dislike deceiving characters that are my favourite, I have to say that it's incredibly well written. All characters involved handle it in a mature and adult way, and there is no bitterness or hostility involved at all. It's incredibly well-done, and all characters involved shine and showcase just how mature and adult they are. I like it.
