Yay, took a bucketload of screenshots!

"Noooo Garrus!"

"Grrrr I'll avenge you!"

"OK guys, let's kick some ass!"

OliviaPaula Shepard loves joking around with Garrus - even when she's wearing that fugly civilian outfit (she wouldn't be caught dead oh wait she did in a Cerberus uniform):

"Did you just make fun of my outfit? You feel lucky, punk?!"

I while back there was a question what screenshot is your favorite, that you feel summarizes your femShep in a single picture.  I couldn't think of one at the time, so I just thought, "Eh, I'll skip it."  But there is one!  I just remembered!

I feel the same way but you know what I do have one after all I just didn't think about it.

My Shep is very firey and since she's a Vanguard she quite literally "will come over there"! Even though that shot is from an older assault rifle build and she doesn't have her awesome custom claymore it still works. I have another Shepard now but I just made her recently so I don't think I have anything truly representative yet for her.

PC version, ELE? That's the only reason I can think of Shep having a rebreather instead of the helmet. I actually LIKE the rebreather better than the helmet. At least you can see Shep's entire face with it on.

And yes, Garrus is my bro. Shep, Tali and Garrus: OTS (One true squad)

It is jarring how little dialogue he has if you don't pursue the romance angle, though.

It is indeed, although he does have the best commentary on the story missions of any squadmate, though.

"What kinds of places are fun to fight through?"
"Gardens, electronics stores.  Antique shops, but only if they're classy."

or

"There's no pep talk like a military pep talk."

or

"And here I thought I'd had my betrayal and attempted murder for this year."

or

the best one ever.

See that's another reason it's tough to avoid romancing him.  Whether it's entering the Tuchanka hospital or outside the Dantius Towers elevator on Illium, he's the only squadmate who directly interacts with Shepard outside of their loyalty mission (not counting Liara in Shadow Broker of course), and the only one who Shepard refers to by name in situational or non-cutscene dialogue.  It really makes him feel like they have a dynamic and lively relationship that goes beyond commander/soldier.  More like partners.

... it's wierd that I still haven't decided if canon Jessica cheats on Liara with Garrus or not.

Can I just say that Garrus probably has the most CSI worthy dialouge of any party member? The evidence is in that clip. Kudos for someone crossing over CSI and ME2.

(Actually, scratch that. This is pretty much what I always thought about female video game protagonists in general.)

I know this was posted quite a while back, but I just wanted to respond and say thanks for reading my blog.  I'm glad I'm not the only woman gamer who feels like that about the main characters in games.

I might explore it more over time... we'll see.  :D

Oh cool, you're here!

I really enjoyed what you wrote there.  femShep really does stand out among other female game characters exactly because of what you mentioned.  It does result, in my opinion, in a few instances where she is annoyingly masculine (beyond just the animations), since "defaultShep" is male, but usually it just means she's refreshingly presented as a competent, powerful character who happens to be a woman too.

It was a wonderful post. SO true. You really nailed the core of the issue: people doing stuff 'cause it needs to get done vs. characters whose entire role and existence revolves around their sexuality. Fem!shep is the former, and that's why so many people love her so much.

It took me 3 playthroughs to decide that canon Teagan stays faithful to Kaidan.  So you're not the only one.
It was a harder decision for me because it goes outside the paragon renegade choices.  It's more of a personal decision, and I had to figure out what kind of person she is in regards to relationships.  Garrus is like a perfect match to her personality/alignment, but that's also why they make good best friends.  Kaidan might be a little too idealistic for her, but I like that they're two different people.  Besides, love isn't always rational.

I can rationalize both decisions of remaining faithful and moving on, for lack of better terms.

Alright, so I'm browsing FF.net right? And I come across this title: A Harmless Passtime. Upon reading the description, I am intrigued. Upon reading the entire thing, I was laughing my butt off, for lack of a better term.

It's a humor fic, so don't expect much from it. Synopsis? FemShep writes slash fanfics about her crew. Miranda finds them. Hilarity inuses. NSFW (Vulgar humor, Jack's hilarious swearing, carnal acts etc.)

I absolutely loved that blog post of yours. (: It is so, so true. Mass Effect is one of the few games which has a female heroine that I can relate to, and its because the fact that she's a woman is a side note, not the main event. Thanks again for writing that post!

Thanks everyone! I'm literally blushing.

I'll take on more thinky pieces, and I'm sure more gender topics, in the future. Especially when it comes to bioware games. I'm extremely loyal.

How can you not be when you got Femshep kicking space-baddy ass!
