My femShep's consistently friend-zone him since it's the only reason to keep the whole thing non-cougar.

Right, so.... I don't know if anyone here has seen this (I can't be arsed to check through 439 pages, so I'm going with 'maybe', >.> ), but yonder blogger took absolutely everything I thought about FemShepard, and made it epic.
(Actually, scratch that. This is pretty much what I always thought about female video game protagonists in general.)
I know this was posted quite a while back, but I just wanted to respond and say thanks for reading my blog. I'm glad I'm not the only woman gamer who feels like that about the main characters in games.
I might explore it more over time... we'll see.

Great Post. I share your position.
The education says us what is "feminine" and what is "masculine" and this determine our thoughts and behaviour
but... is it really true?? or are the society who impose it?? I choose the last.
In addition, everywhere it seems that they constantly remind us; and as you correctly say, FemShep is a exception in the games, where feminine is irrevocably associated with "Oh, she is hot" or otherwise she behaves like a "guy".
Women and men's behaviour is "default"???!!!. Pffffff!!!. Stupid stereotypes.
I enjoy playing with FemShep, I know SHE is a HEROINE; not a stereotyped heroine. SHE is a true HEROINE;
MY HEROINE.
Gender is not just societally defined. Study after study after study has confirmed what the entire history of human experience (or anyone who's ever had any interaction with a person of the opposite sex) could tell us; men and women have brains that are both chemically and structurally different from each other, just like their bodies. They process and communicate information in different ways.
This is why, on occasion, femShep comes off as feeling a little wierd to me. Shep is written as male (even if BioWare might contest that), and that means that femShep will sometimes do or say something that a woman would most likely do or say differently than it is presented in the game, because the communication styles are fundamentally different. Hale's presentation compensates for this most of the time, but sometimes it really is the fault of the writing and there's nothing she can do with it. The worst examples of this are actually the romances in ME2, where femShep suddenly veers way out of character and basically throws herself at the head of the potential LI (it's especially bad with Jacob, obviously). When the writers write Shep as "female" first they seem to instantly degrade into stereotype. Just... fail.
Fortunately these instances are fairly rare and femShep mostly comes off as a tough, competent, businesslike soldier who can kick ass, take names, save the galaxy, and just happens to be a woman on top of it all. Represent!

Not even remotely close.

I sat there and stared at that for a few minutes the first time a femShep character fell for Thane, and I eventually thought "that can't be what she's actually going to say here, let's go look this up online first".
Sometimes the distance between the dialogue wheel and what is actually said is extreme.

It isn't, but I think you did a great job with it. I think I tried that structure once and I think my Shepard turned out good (I have no pics...this is an old Shepard from my XBox playing days).
jlb524 wrote...
"I want you" gives pretty clear intentions to the player, and by selecting it, you are telling the game you would like to initiate a romance with Thane (and a variable is set somewhere), even though Shepard herself doesn't tell Thane "Take me now, you hunk of a drell!"

I asked on the modding thread, but didn't get much response. So I'll ask you guys here. I'm trying to add the Liara armor for my shep to wear. I'm trying to have it set as torso with the invisible arms, shoudlers and such. I believe that it's almost
correct. The only problem I'm having is that the armor won't show up unless my shep
is wearing a helmet. Doesn't matter what helmet or what environment. It just wont show up if she is helmetless. Is there anyway to correct this?
Jo is not impressed with all the fiddle around with clothes I'm doing.

The blues are much more darker and richer on the Citadel, and I realize that its another contrast that it has with Omega, which is seedy, red, and dingy while the Citadel is vibrant, blue and pristine. Hey! Paragon and Renegade, blue and red! Oh, Bioware, you sneaks. (or maybe I'm reading too deep into that. Oh well.)
Love the contrast between Noah's bright face and her dark surroundings. Makes her glow!
