And yes, Shepard was targeted specifically by the Collectors; she even comments on it, "The same ship dogging me for two years?"

What I don't get is if they could track her so closely they knew she was still on the gutted and falling Normandy, why didn't they follow her body on its plunge down to Alchera and recovered her themselves?

And why specifically target her?  That still hasn't been given even a hint of exposition.  I'm deathly afraid that it will not be explained in ME3, relegating that particular (and particularly interesting) plot point to a mere footnote the way they did with the Lazarus Project as a whole.

The hidden Liara audio files found on the ME2 disk tell us that the Collectors wanted Shepard's body to look for genetic abnormalities (because, Shepard is so awesome, I guess).

Of course, this was cut, but this might be the closest thing to an answer we will get.

"Genetic abnormalities"? Like what? Did the Collector's have a suspicion that Shepard was able to kill Soverign because she has Sickle-Cell Anemia?

That actually raises another question that's been bothering me as far as unanswered questions go; what about the Cypher? Sure, for obvious reasons it wasn't crucial to the plot of ME2, but it's still the memories of an entire species. Those just can't go away, and you'd have to figure that it's still having lingering effects on Shepard, but it isn't mentioned at all.

I think the thing was the Reapers think that the only way she could defeat them was to be a genetic abberation that made her superior.  Instead of just "normal," but with a strong will.

Vanguard, I've wondered about that, too. I was actually curious as to whether that would turn out to be one of Cerberus' reasons for bringing Shepard back to life. I guess it still could be. It just seemed absurd to me to bring back one warrior, no matter how strong and heroic, for the price of 4 billion credits. I wanted it to be that Cerberus simply wanted to access Cipher information, so they planned to reanimate Shepard's brain. But given the expense of that project, why not bring back Shepard in her entirely and use her as a resource?

Who knows....the Reapers seem obsessed with studying organic genetics for some reason.

Oh, the Cypher..yeah, that was completely dropped.  Shepard did have some contact with Prothean artifacts in ME2, and it would have been neat if she was able to read some of the writing on them or something.

I don't know if she would have felt some odd kinship with the Collectors, given that they used to be Protheans in spirit, while she kind of is a Prothean in spirit with the Cypher.

That's...a VERY interesting way of looking at why Shepard could have been brought back by Cerberus. I love it. You guys really think outside the box with these questions.

Yeah, the Chipher was dropped/ignored/forgotten, but I have a feeling it'll make an appearance in ME3. I think Bioware is keeping all these little details underwraps because they want to make ME3 more epic that it's already proposed to be...well, by the fans anyway.

I Just started playing and have done a couple run throughs. Honestly the game is much more interesting with Sheppard as a female then a male, although it is much easier to be a rude bastard with a male.

In my own little ME world I have this story of Sheppard and Jack being sisters, both used for some research by the Illusive man, both linked to the Protheans somehow. I have often even thought maybe having Prothean genetics with IM being the father in some way. Never really thought the whole thng through was just my little back story.

I think the thing was the Reapers think that the only way she could defeat them was to be a genetic abberation that made her superior.  Instead of just "normal," but with a strong will.

So the Reaper's view on this is "there's no possible way a mere human could have killed Soverign, she has to be more highly evolved".  That's the kind of reaction that stems from either arrorgance or frantic rationalizing out of fear.

... wait...

* * *

Somewhere in Dark Space

Harbinger: Alright, guys, huddle up. I have some bad news. Soverign is.. um... well, he's dead.

Reclusiarch: Do what now?

Executor: Wait, Soverign is dead?!

Harbinger: Well, "dead" is kind of a relative term concidering we're multi-millenia old sentient starships and we were never truely "alive" to begin with, but yeah, dead.

Chaplain: And this happend... how?

Harbinger: I'm not sure, I'm kind of sketchy on the details. All I know is that some human brought Soverign down. Her name was "Shepard" or some such, I don't really remember.

Palidan: Wait, a mere human? Killed one of us?

*unconfortable silence*

Reclusiarch: ... she might not be an ordinary human...

*chorus of anxious agreements*

Executor: Oh, of course! I mean come on, the mere thought or some random pink, squishy ape-thing, probably arising from humble origins to overcome great trials and hardships in order to kill Soverign? The very thought of it is just perposterous.

Harbinger: He's right, this "Shepard" has to be special somehow. Different. More powerful than the rest of her race.

Palidan: ... like how?

*unconfortable silence*

Harbinger: ... erm... maybe a... I don't know, a genetic abnormality of some sort?

*the group mutters in agreement*

Chaplain: This Shepard could have... uh... clairvoyance or some sort? I mean, that has to be the only way that she was able to see our plan coming. Nevermind that we've used the same strategy three-hundred and eighty-six thousand times now.

Reclusiarch: Perhaps she can fire lasers out of her optic nerves. That would make her a fearsome opponent indeed.

Executor:
Maybe she has a feathered brain. Would that be something that would make a human more powerful? A feathered brain?

Palidan: It might be because she has Sickle-Cell Anemia...

Reclusiarch: *sighs* Shut the **** up, Palidan.

Harbinger: Guys! How about we go get Shepard, kill her, discect her, and figure out what made her so different and remarkable in the first damn place?

Chaplain: Hmm, that could work.

Harbinger: The sooner we know the better, because *scoffs* c'mon, there's no possible way an entire species could possibly be naturally talented, driven, and generally badass enough to just kill one of us like that, right?

*unconfortable silence*

Harbinger: ... right?

*more silence*

Paidan: We're all going to die, aren't we?

Reclusiarch: I said shut the **** up, Palidan!

Harbinger:
... if you guys need me, I'm going to be in the corner crying...

That's an interesting idea.  With an earthborn background it's even somewhat plausible since Shep doesn't know who her parents were.  I can't find if Jack has a set age or if it's unknown.  Hmmmm, biotic Shepard and Jack, sisters separated at birth?  I like it.

Well, I am of the opinion that the Protheans, and their legacy will play an important part in ME3, and will possibly be key to defeating the Reapers. LotSB foreshadows this when Liara mentions that the previous Shadow Broker was researching the Protheans, and believed that there was something that is yet to be discovered. I also think that it is no coincidence that the most powerful and influential information network in the galaxy is currently under the control of a renowned Prothean expert. I speculate that Shepard's visions from the Prothean beacons, in addition to the Cipher, will play a prominent role in ME3. Liara may even have to meld with Shepard again in order to share the visions.

Really looking forward to ME3...I can't wait to see how FemShep's character will develop, and how Jennifer Hale will once again brilliantly breathe life into her!

Same. Also the way she runs in ME2 kind of bothers me sometimes. It was less manish in the first one.

It shouldn't matter if she's a marine or not to know that she should probably close her legs when wearing a dress. They did it in LotSB - Bioware will hopefully improve her animations further.

Although going forward if peeps want to keep discussing that topic then create a new thread. Its not really suited for in here as its not directly femshep related anymore
