I don't get what the problem is with making "barbie Sheps". Why cn't a really beautiful woman be a badass and save the Milky way? Hell I try to make all my femsheps barbies since I tend to take Miranda's mentality when I go into the CC the whole "I will make her perfect" thing. Tiz what I did with Kallen and Bam Super evil and intimidating barbie:

I like Gwen. You don't see very many blond femsheps that look like her. Special is in the eye of the beholder I say.

I'm curious since you made her a 'cute' spacer war hero, is she basically completely baggage-free and well-adjusted? Because that is refreshing in itself.

Thanks!  I wasn't fishing for compliments, but it's always nice to hear.

For her backstory, which I've been writing in dribs and drabs, I wanted to make Gwen pretty normal, but she does have baggage, like her parents divorcing when she was young, and her father's death (who died of a long illness rather than in the line of duty), which isn't as shattering as something like a Colonist background, but still shapes her worldview.  The way I see her, she wanted to be normal, and didn't want to follow in her parents' footsteps by joining the military and being just like them.  She wanted to make her own mark on the world in a different way, and she resented her nomadic childhood.  She looked at her biotics as a burden when she was younger, but eventually saw that the best way she could help people would be by embracing what she is, and being like her parents wasn't so bad after all.

Hehe, I know Sia has mentioned Buffy Summers as an influence for Meghan in the past, and she and Kitty Pryde (who Joss Whedon cited as an influence for Buffy) are definitely influences for the way I see my Shepard.  Kitty Pryde might not have the cool factor that a character like X-23 might have for a backstory, but she manages to be brave and smart and strong despite that.  (LOL, comic book nerdiness showing!)

Oh, thanks so much. That's awesome to hear, especially since I've been using a few of your mods in my games. :)

Meghan's got more than a little bit of Faith in her, too. Faith the Vampire Slayer, that is. Not Fort's Faith. ;)

Meghan's influences are wide and varied. Hell, I even threw in Han Solo for some spice.

@TZ: I love the idea that the semi-normal people can be heroes too. It's much the same theory I have for my Spacer-Shep. There was a line in something I was writing, once, where the "normal" member of the group I was writing was basically apologizing to her friends about how she couldn't really relate to what they'd been through, and one of them made the point that she was always there for them, no matter what, no matter what they did, or what was done to them, and that she should be proud of her ability to do that, regardless of whether she was as 'bad-ass' as the rest of them. Or something. It was a long time ago, and the rest of the story died, but I always did like that scene.

I like the backstory you've given her.  Spacer at first glance seems a lot like the boring option to some, but the way you've fleshed it out adds a certain realism to her character.  She's not a superhero, just an exceptional person who has stepped up to the task.  I see you left her some baggage, but it's baggage that easy to relate to.  I like the earthborn backstory I've given Teagan, but I can't really relate to it on a personal level.

Google searches X-23...oh, HELLO.

That was my reaction the first time I saw your Gwen avatar.
As for the wardrobe... it's available to any pc player who uses texmod. You can find it in my projects tab. :)

Ee-zackly.  I've seen Shepards I don't care for, mostly elsewhere but some here on the thread, too.  In that case I just don't say anything.  Just because they're not my preference doesn't mean I can bash them.  To quote Thumper from Bambi, "If you can't say something nice, don't say nothin' at all!"

... except for Fnar.  I die a little inside every time someone re-posts Fnar.

I do think that a lot of the "too cute to be a soldier" comments are not meant to be mean, but they do come off as dismissive...like by making Shepard into a "pretty princess" we're not playing the game right.  I've seen these comments mostly from guys, and I have a strong suspicion it's why so many of the female faces on masseffectfaces.com are rated low, for the most part.  It's frustrating, because some of the best looking female faces are like a 2.5 according to the people voting...while male faces don't get judged so harshly at all.  So the rating system is useless, at least on the female side.

Don't get me wrong, I love seeing uniquely beautiful FemSheps, and I'm often jealous too.  I just gravitate towards a certain look for my own characters, and it feels like my characters are less exciting sometimes, because of it.

I do get tired of the "all the femsheps look alike" crap. I could say the same for the male sheps. It's a limited tool, the face thing. It's not like there are infinite choices if you want to keep them looking human.

(My husband made a damned fine-looking one, though. Both my Sheps would dump Garrus and Kaidan in heartbeat for my husband's Cade Shepard, even if he is renegade most of the time. ;-) )

I hear you. I have the same "problem" if you want to put it that way. I tried to make Devon and Evan look different from Noah but they ended up sharing some similiar features.

QFT, the character creator in ME is abysmal.  I'd kill to have the DA toolset for ME for making characters.  I spent so many hours in the toolset creativing characters for DA.

I’d also like an easier way to mod in ME (while I’m dreaming ;) ), I use at least 5 appearance mods in DAO.  I know that Shep's military so you limit the hair styles but you'd think there would be a few more short hair options.

I know. Hell ALL of my malesheps look exactly the same except for facial hair. so Shepard's are still gonna look alike some how, especially for hair choices since we only have like 8.

Image IPBI think my admiration and appreciation for this Shepard grew exponentially. Faith AND Han Solo as influences? Damn, she must be QUITE the sarcastic quipper.

Cam's influences are mainly Buffy inspired, though there's a little Faith in her as well, perhaps in her younger Alliance Basic days and in ME1.

Augh, my nerdiness is showing as well. Image IPB

Random question:

What fact about your Shepard, when you first "discovered" it, surprised you about her?

This just came to my head because I was really surprised when I realized that Jessica, in private, is a very foul-mouthed person.  It makes sense, I guess, given her youth in gangs on the street.  She manages to keep things professional for the most part when she interacts with other people, especially authority figures (the Alliance drums that into its recruits just like any military would), but in private or if she's particularly pissed off she just really lets loose with the creative profanity.  This is totally the opposite of me, I rarely use anything stronger than "heck", partly because of my upbringing and partly because of a quote I once read that said "profanity is the crutch of a conversational cripple", and consequently when I create characters they're pretty straight-laced in the language department too.  It really surprised me (and still does) when Jessica revealed her penchant for swearing.

@sagequeen -- totally in love with the leaping action pose!

TeenZombie wrote...

I played with a new hairstyle and makeup for my main Shepard last night, but I'm a little worried that it will make her even more of a "Barbie" than usual.  Does anyone else worry about that?

I've played around with that myself because I figured if the Normandy could get a paint job, why not my Shepard as well? To symbolize she's been rebuilt as well. I experimented a bunch before I settled on a combination that felt very natural to me. No harm in changing looks around. I'd totally see my character wanting to look nice for Kaidan before they ran into each other again. I don't love the little black dress, but if that's what it takes! =p

And forget about thinking that your character is a wallflower or not as unique because it's not true. What's important is how you feel about your Shepard. I've made characters that were "unique," but I had zero attachment to them so they didn't get played much. Just get awesome screenshots to share how awesome your inner Shepard is and forget about the rest! ;)
