I have one male, and five females. I've tried using a different design for each, but I always end up with some common features :)

My female Shepards all look like they are related.  I may start out with a different face, but by the time I twitch ithem she's related to the last one, maybe a cousin.

I've never understood why some guys are ashamed that they prefer playing as a female character or why other guys rag on them for that?  Well the latter just needs to grow up and stop being insecure but I think it's awesome to see so many guys that enjoy playing as a female hero.

I don't know...it doesn't seem the reverse holds (females being ashamed over playing male characters).

I think it's a question of "traditions". Most gaming heroes so far have been macho men, and most of the high-profile female game protagonists have been hyper sexualized, like Lara Croft. I enjoy femShep because she's an interesting character and because, for once, it's not a big deal that she's a woman and she's not demeaned in any way with regards to getting the job done. Well, that and the VO

I am male, and without doubt prefer the character of Commander Shepard as a woman. To me, she's more interesting as a tough, competant, capable, authoritive and strong woman.

I love my female Shepard and am absolutely proud of her. It's just that some people just can't get over the thought that a female protagonist, especially one as symbolic as Commander Shepard, sounds far-fetched, but I couldn't care less, and neither should you. Also, I'm a male player.

Since everyone wants to Meer bash... even when the OP asked them not to in the original post... I'm going to say that Meer does well with the other characters he has done. His voice work was likely influenced by the Dev team who were there during the VO work. Don't blame him... blame the bioware team who were directing him and who chose the lines he did. You do know that they do several takes per line with different emotions being portrayed right?

I wasn't bashing Meer. Hell, 80% of the time I'm listening to his voice when I play ME. I was just voicing my opinion on the topic, which, quite frankly, isn't the best. In other words, NEXT!

I am not Meer bashing, I am saying the truth. He was alot better in ME2, in ME he was so monotone it was not funny, that's the truth. Meer was better in ME2, I don't see how we are bashing Meer?

I've actually been thinking to going back to ME1 and starting an entirely new career; a Paragon FemShep. My current and only FemShep is a hardass Renegade, lol. But I haven't really made my decision yet.

EDIT: I'm more or less the same as NICK. Most of the time I'm a Sheploo, but when I do play my female and then go back to Sheploo, it's usually hard to put up with him at first. :pinched:

  I had the decision made for me.  My xbox360 died and when I picked up a new one I had trouble accessing anything so I just wiped it clean and started over.  Didn't mind too much, I've been playing ME1 since it came out and the same with ME2.  Now I'm trying to play them one after the other.

Whenever I get someone ragging on me for playing as female avatars, I can make a pretty good presumption as to their character, and simply respond with "So I guess you enjoy the view from behind with your exclusively male characters?  NTTAWWT..."

I only say no bashing of meer/hale/femshep/maleshep so we can avoid flamewars. I now know that it's impossible not to compare voice acting. Just choose your words carefully. : ) I greatly prefer listening to Hale voice Commander Shepard. She made Commander Shepard the Shepard, imho.

Bioware did it there self. They made Meer so monotone in ME that femshep fans don't care if Meer improved in mE2 and did a great job.

I agee.  I like him.  I didn't really have any problem in ME1 just reminded me of guys I have I work with.  For me he is my male Shepard and I can't imagine anyone else and he did improve in ME2.

I think BioWare did the same with Fem Shep when she talks to Jacob in ME2.  Hate it. but everything else is great.

Yeah, regarding FemShep's dialogue with Jacob the only conclusion I can draw is that Jennifer Hale was directed to act in that manner toward him. No way she'd do that of her own free accord.

Seriously, BW. What were you thinking?!

There was two clips for that, a normal one and the rape voice that is in game. Why did you use that Bioware, it's not hawt, it's embrasing. <_<

She can do flirty/seductress waaaaaay better than in ME2, that's for sure. She did it in Metal Gear Solid 4.

Edit: And yes, BioWare definately should have used the non-Black Widow take there. I was trying to be nice to Jacob and suddenly Shepard sounds like she's 2 seconds from just ripping his pants down

And it's past midnight here, so good night, everyone.

My take:

1. Meer improved in ME2.

2. Hale is still the better voice actor.

3. Meer sounds like an emotionless robot sometimes.

4. Meer is at his best with the renegade lines. Meer said himself he prefers playing villains or evil characters. I take that Hale may prefer more moral characters.

5. I still prefer Meer's voice, even if Hale is the better voice actor.

6. I like both Shepards

Yep, I remember reading an interview with one of the development staff in which they said something to that effect. I can't for the life of me find the link, though!
