I'd like to echo the sentiments that one of the most appealing aspects of FemShep's character is the fact that she is a woman is never really highlighted or has attention drawn to it, aside from the FemShep exclusive dialogue from sexist, lecherous creeps like Harkin of course. She's a badass, capable, confident and able space marine that just so happens to be female. However, she's also not just a typical male action hero with boobs that plagues some movies and games, as I feel she also retains some of her femininity. That's how I feel, anyway.

Serious business! LOL! :D

Shall I continue digging myself into a hole, or have I made a fool of myself enough? :P

FemShep would disagree.

I have made myself clear though, right? I hope that what I am saying is not being misconstrued. I think that BW have done an excellent job in avoiding the poor characterisation of female protagonists that plagues alot of action movies and games in which the woman in questions acts just like a stereotypical male action hero, with the only difference being that her gender is reversed, of course. FemShep is different, she does not act in this way and remains feminine, whilst also being badass, strong and awesome.

I just wanted to make that clear!

Y'all know what I mean, mash. :P

Alot of female action heroes act just like men, and there is no discernable difference to their characterisation then your typical Schwarzeneggar-esque action movie hero. I feel like that is averted with FemShep, as she retains her femininity.

I'd say this is hit or miss in ME2. There's some lines where she sounds just like mShep, like when comforting Diana, but then there's also moments like the Thane romance, where she gets to be feminine, supportive and still the Commander.

Yes. He is just a big baby krogan, after all.

Oh, another good Jen Hale line occurs soon after Grunt wakes up.

"I'm Commander Shepard, and I don't take threats lightly. I suggest you relax."

Love it!

"You better have a good reason for ruining my lunch." when Grunt is tearing up the cargo bay.

During the post-Horizon debriefing, when Jacob is acting like the know-it-all guy, you may respond with a Renegade option that reads, "Don't lose a nerve now." I am not totally sure what Shepard actually says if you pick that option, but I know I laughed my ass off when she said it.

Well, you made it as clear as you possibly could, which unfortunately isn't very. Reason being, everyone has their own opinions on what femininity means.

But I agree with you. Bioware have done an excellent job by giving this role to Jennifer Hale, who did an awesome job of voicing it (and gave femShep all the qualities you mentioned despite both male and female script being 99% identical :))

I've never understood why some guys are ashamed that they prefer playing as a female character or why other guys rag on them for that?  Well the latter just needs to grow up and stop being insecure but I think it's awesome to see so many guys that enjoy playing as a female hero.
I don't know...it doesn't seem the reverse holds (females being ashamed over playing male characters).
I think it's a question of "traditions". Most gaming heroes so far have been macho men, and most of the high-profile female game protagonists have been hyper sexualized, like Lara Croft. I enjoy femShep because she's an interesting character and because, for once, it's not a big deal that she's a woman and she's not demeaned in any way with regards to getting the job done. Well, that and the VO

[/quote

Exactly.  Of course women don't have a problem playing male characters.  We didn't have any other choice.

First games I played did't even have female anything.  I fell in love with gaming, and would play anything I could if it had a sword or magic in it. Zelda,

Then I picked up final fantasy in the late 80's and in 95 there was Chrono Trigger.  These all had girls in them.  Not as the main character, but they were there.  <sigh>   I liked the Laura Croft idea and character, but I could never get into the game.

It's why I am a BioWare Fan, All of their main female characters have the option to be normal looking.  :)

And adorable Kelly!

I'm not really into Kelly. :bandit:  Especially when she should know that my canon Shep only has eyes for Liara.

I tried to romance her once with one of my flirtier Shepards but I messed up somehow.  lol

I only romanced Kelly to feed my fish:?

Me too.  I just took her to dinner and she offered so I said thanks and talk to her as a friend.

you guys are crazy..... kelly is freakin adorable! It's hard for me to finish a single playthrough without "romancing" her! and I ALWAYS have to pick that line where shepard says, "I'd do more than catch you kelly!" ... "Now that's an enticing thought!" :D

The only proper hair color for FemShep is some shade of red.  The fact that the VA is Jennifer Hale dictates it. ;)

Most of mine are redheads, but that's because I want to be one.  Actually I am one -- sometimes.
