I really loved Hale's work in LotSB, the ending bits with a femShep romancing Liara flowed so well and felt so natural. I'm really impressed by her in general, but the ending bits were truly stellar, IMO. I only recently did the I Remember Me quest too, I managed to skip it on my first run with my canon but saw it on my second... it was wonderful. I actually cried a little bit :x

Man, I need to replay her in ME2 so she can be her canon class (Infiltrator) and not what I felt was easiest for my first run (Soldier, but ended up using the sniper rifles almost exclusively).

Image IPB

Adele: It's okay, next time I'll actually know how to use a sniper rifle properly.

Garrus: Good. Watching you was getting painful.

Ali Hillis and Jennifer Hale chemistry FTW!!!! :wizard:

That line is poignant even if you don't have a Liaramancing Shepard.  Avery sounded so lonely.

Finished a new FemShep playthrough in ME1 earlier, and had the character imported into ME2. The character had bun hair in ME1, and I figured that it would make sense for her to "let it out" now that she isn't an Alliance soldier anymore.

As it turns out, though, there's something about the shape of her head that makes it incompatible with other hair types. I've looked everywhere I could think to, but no matter what I change her scalp keeps popping out through her hair. Trying to google the issue hasn't produced any results, but I did notice that hair modding had previously been discussed in this thread, so I figured I'd drop in and see if anyone could help. '-'

I know exactly what's happening here, mostly because I actually tried editing LODs before figuring out you can just export head morphs.  On the bun hairstyles, the vertices for the mesh that makes up the head are different, the scalp is "puffy" to simulate the pulled-back hair, since the only actual mesh is the bun itself.  All the other hairstyles are separate mesh models over a bald scalp.

Here's how to fix it.  You're going to have to recreate her face from scratch, so start a new game and import the character again, then write down the positions of all the face sliders (the best way to do this is to actually count the individual clicks on each slider position).  Then, create a custom face for your import and copy the slider positions so that when you switch back and forth from the imported face to the custom face they look the same.  Now, switch her hairstyle to bald (the first position on the slider).  This will shrink the LODs of her scalp so you can hack any hair mesh onto her (except a bun, of course, which would be floating behind her scalp like a levitating tribble).  Save your game.

Now, go into Gibbed, find that save, and export the head morph.  Load up your other saved game, import that head morph, and hack on your chosen hairstyle.  Viola!  It's complicated but it's the fastest way I've found to do it.  I suppose you could do that whole save-file to slider-conversion stuff from Gibbed, but it's a lot easier in my opinion just to write down slider positions.

Edit: Argh, ninja'ed by ELE.  Yeah, what she said too.

Hey, there's absolutely no need to feel ashamed or self-conscious! I'll openly admit that I also shed a few tears, as I thought the entire exchange between Shepard and Talitha was heartbreaking. Jennifer's voice acting was incredible, and Shepard's genuine concern and care for Talitha was so touching.

Agreed, and her fantastic work in bringing Shepard to life is something that should not go unnoticed.

Yes, FemShep sounds so sad there :crying:

When I first played LotSB, I couldn't believe how good of a job Hale did with the DLC in general, especially the romance lines.   OK, I can believe it, b/c Hale rocks but still, I was very impressed and I was definitely emotionally engaged.  One reason I do like the voiced PC...if they have a good VA (if they don't, then it's fail), is b/c it does add some life and some character you are playing, and also breathes some life into emotional scenes involving other characters, for example, the Liara LotSB romance reunion.   After hearing Hale's great VO work there, I couldn't imagine playing through that scene with a silent PC.

I don't know why my mind jumped to this conclusion but here goes: Garrus Romance male version It has FemShep in it, if that's any consilation. She in there for about 5 seconds or so....and then it switches to hilarity.

When you mentioned silent protagonist in a love scene, my mind went here. xD Sorry for the sort of OT, erryone.

I agree. Similar to what ryn said, a silent protagonist also deprives the player of the opportunity to experience the genuine chemistry between Jennifer Hale and Ali Hillis, which obvious augments the dialogue with additional emotion and depth. Both voice actresses were amazing in LotSB, and really did bring their respective characters to life. LotSB's romance content really did serve to provide additional depth and development to the Liara romance, and I think that the interaction and chemistry between Shepard and Liara was one of the most significant reasons as to why.

There is one specific piece of dialogue that stands out to me. After Shepard and Liara have passionately kissed each other in order to reaffirm their romance, this exchange occurs:

Liara: "Okay...okay."
Shepard: "Okay."

A simple line, but one with a vast amount of emotional weight behind it. That's why it's so memorable, as it almost epitomises the genuine emotional depth between the two characters. I love it!

Oh my gosh, I know!  Just that one little line made me choke up something fierce.  It's so quiet, so understated, yet Hale just packs it with such raw longing that it hurts.  You can just feel how painful it is for Shepard to watch Liara walk out that door.

Even more amazing is that the same line, minus the "Liara" at the end, is still moving, still lonely, but does not carry that same level of heartbreak when your Shepard has not romanced Liara.  Hale is just so incredibly skillful.

There absolutely nothing wrong with going all out emotional. I'm such a wuss and cry when game gets all out motional for me, like in I remember me and certain scenes from LotSB for example, I'll shed tears and I'm proud of my wussiness.:o

Hale does so phenomenal work on FemShep that it's hard not to get emotional. She's just great. And her chemistry with Hillis. Awwww!

I agree...just something simple as voice actor chemistry can go a long way in adding a lasting emotional impact to a romance.  It's not just about what they say, but how they say it.  That's the difference between reading a book and watching a movie.  Actually hearing someone expressing the proper emotion meant for a line goes a long way in adding to the emotion of the dialog and makes it all the more special.

That chemistry is one of the reasons I like Shepard and Garrus.  Like Hale and Keener were actually friends willing to work on that wierd inter-species chemistry thing.

This. Just.....this. Hale's emotional involvment with her lines helped me to see her more as a character than as a VA for a character. When I hear Cam, I hear her instead of Hale, if that makes sense.

If I hear Tali, I'll hear Tali and not Liz Srocka or if I hear Miranda, I'll hear Miranda and not Yvonne Strahovski.

I've watched the non-romance version of Shepard's parting words to Liara on YouTube, and whilst she sounds quite lonely and in desperate need of a friend, the delivery lacks the emotional impact present in the romance version of the farewell.

In my first playthrough I missed "I Remember Me", but picked it up on my second go. The emotional stuff was great, as well as Hale's delivery, but it was one of those small missions that helped define the character. When Shep admits to have been "broken" for a long time, that redefined the character for me. It was fun imagining what it must have been like to get past something like that and partially lead me to letting UJ spare the Cerberus scientist for trial in the Survivor's mission. She killed him in my first run.

I understand that in ME2 Shep's dealt w/ her past, but still moments like these were sorely missed.

I agree, Jamie. I forgot to mention that Shepard's background assignments really do add a human element to her character, especially "I Remember Me". For example, contacting Hannah Shepard in the Spacer assignment was an incredibly nice touch, as you're given additional insight into Shepard's background and origins. A private conversation between mother and daughter serves this function very well.

I've only had one colonist that did I remember me (kat skipped it and Novae Rog's Me1 is modded) and it was my male Shep Chuck, but I've seen it one youtube and I'd say both VA's nailed it perfectly.

Oh this pic is so awesome!  Avery looks great here.  Shenzi should start some kind of FemShep screenshot business.  :D

I had a lot of fun with my Adept, Liz.  I don't like the class as much as the Vanguard or Infiltrator, but it's probably my third favorite.  In ME1, I tended to play the Adept like an ME2 Vanguard: barrier, then get in their face with a shotgun.  Liz was a beast.

@Leggy: I could never play any class except Adept or Vanguard, believe me, I tried. And I see no point of playing a Sentinel thanks to a certain Alliance Staff Commander.

And thanks! It took forever to get Avery to look like she does. Shenzi took some wonderful shots of her.

Also agreed, it's like your Shep is one lonely person if you didn't romance Liara in me1 and oyu cant even romance her during the DLC if your shep is single or has an LI. Kind of like a slap in the face of the non Liara mancers which hurts worse if you romanced the VS and don't get a DLC.Image IPB
