Yeah, I love the fact that Shepard is a voiced character. Since Hale is so great in her role I feel a lot more connected to my Shepards than I do to my Wardens, for example. I know it is the opposite for some people, but Shepard having a voice makes her more alive to me, and her interactions more real (not just standing and staring blankly at someone you're supposed to love or despise). I love DAO but I didn't shed a single tear during any of my runs (aside from getting a bit choked up at one point because of an NPC). Which is why I actually felt really awful and had a few tears in my eyes when I loaded up my first game of ME2 (right after finishing ME1) and saw Shepard writhing and suffocating. I knew she'd come back but I was like "Nooooo.... ;_;" I like caring for my characters without having to make up their entire personalities and background in my head (though doing so for femShep is fun, rather than a chore). So yeah, I rather like playing a game where I can be moved to tears by touching or sad moments rather than just staring at it as blankfaced as my character >.>

And for the topic of biotics- Vanguard goes Vorcha Bowling!

Oh, god... absolutely this. I think I was depressed my entire first playthrough of ME2 especially after meeting up with Liara again on Illium. :(

And speaking of great voice acting Liaramancers get a bonus at the beginning of ME2 because Hale's line telling Liara to go has more emotion than anything she says to Kaidan or Ashley. Probably because only someone whose femShep romanced Liara will see her at that point.

Even more amazing is that the same line, minus the "Liara" at the end, is still moving, still lonely, but does not carry that same level of heartbreak when your Shepard has not romanced Liara.  Hale is just so incredibly skillful.

QFT!

I've watched the non-romance version of Shepard's parting words to Liara on YouTube, and whilst she sounds quite lonely and in desperate need of a friend, the delivery lacks the emotional impact present in the romance version of the farewell.

Yeah, I agree.  Avery sounded very alone.

Also agreed, it's like your Shep is one lonely person if you didn't romance Liara in me1 and oyu cant even romance her during the DLC if your shep is single or has an LI. Kind of like a slap in the face of the non Liara mancers which hurts worse if you romanced the VS and don't get a DLC.Image IPB

The only romance I've seen in ME2 was when I did  screen shots of Meg / Garrus for Sia, all my non A/U Shep's stayed faithful to Kaidan and hence are feeling very alone.  (edit - the A/U stayed faithful, she just got her biotic staff comannder back already instead of having to wait for ME3)

ME3 is a long time to wait for Kaidan if we don't get a VS DLC. Image IPB

Yeah, she JUST sent them to me.  Avery's gorgeous when she's all glowy.

I got lucky with this shot, it's the best out of a ton I took of her casting singularity over and over.  Image IPB

It's been a bit strange driving other people's Shep's around for screen shots.  It feels like back in my MMO days when I had the account information for a dozen different people.  The only difference being that they're my own copies of the toon and not sitting on a server somewhere.

And I thank you for the Meg & Garrus shots, Shenzi.

Also, Shenzi, I finally updated The Rescue.

It is a gorgeous shot.  She looks all wide-eyed and innocent as she's slaughtering people.   Perfect Paragon.  Too bad Shepard doesn't actually snarl when she's casting.  That would be perfect for Meg.

Ohhh, makes sense. For a while I was wondering why people wanted to fight Ash or Kaidan. Yes, I am that dense.

um,  okay. I've played through the opening sequence several times with and without a Liara romanced femShep and I think the paragon choice of telling Liara to go has more emotion than the paragon choice telling Ash or Kaidan to go. But, that's my perception. YMMV.

I wanted to strangle him after getting dismissed.
Then I wanted to backhand Anderson and Udina, since it was after Horizon.

Glad that Wrex was happy to see me or I would have thrown my game out the window in anger.

QFT!  I agree with all of this.  I'm definitely excited about voice acting in Dragon Age 2, in hopes that I will come to love my Lady Hawkes as much as my FemSheps.  Having a voice really brings them to life for me and I don't feel like my role-playing has been limited by it.  In a way, they feel more alive... like I'm not making up a background and personality for them so much as discovering it.

Although I will admit that I sobbed openly during Dragon Age in my US ending.  :crying:

I have seen all three versions and the only thing that is different is the name Shepard says. That is just my opinion of course and it is probably a matter of perception as you said.

Much as I love Hale and her characterization of Shepard, I am not looking forward to a voiced character in Dragon Age 2. Actually to be honest I'm not looking forward to Dragon Age 2, period (shouldn't a sequel have the same characters in it?!), but that's neither her nor there. I think a voiced character fits a certain style of game very well, and Mass Effect (or something like Uncharted as another example) is cinematic enough that it does.  classic style RPGs (of which Mass Effect is not, and Dragon Age is supposed to be) are not that kind of game. Not to mention Hale is in a league of her own and getting a good VA otherwise is something of a crapshoot. We only have to look as far as manShep to see how badly a flubbed VA can affect the rest of the game.
