For the play through I'm doing with Kate and taking all the screen shots of her I just have the game on casual and keep her in the armor I want in the screen shots.  For my first ever insanity game however I've dressed Liz  in the best combo of gear I can come up with regardless of how it looks.

I LOVE this comic.  I think I have it saved on my computer somewhere.  It's my favorite ME -related comic ever.

I don't think my Shep would be keeping the equivalent to a video camera for Harbinger in her personal quarters, but it is kinda funny and cute.

Harbinger:  "Your species is doomed!"

Holly Shepard:  "Uh huh.  You've said that a few times now."

Ewwwww.  Hope they cleaned it first.  Otherwise they're getting a little soylent green in their smoothies.  

EDIT:
As for armor, I dress my Sheps in what I like.  Combining armors and pieces is fun to me.  You can get some really cool looks.  I use the off-hand ammo pack on Holly, though, because I run around with the Widow.  Mostly Kestrel is nice for Constance, good melee damage for finishing people off after a charge and when the shotgun is empty.

I typically play on Hardcore or Insanity.  Doesn't really effect things for me too much.
