I believe that he and Ashley were written to be interchangeable there, with the focus being on Ashley.  Kaidan was a distant afterthought in ME2, as evidenced by the Phoenix armor at the beginning and him using an assault rifle instead of a pistol and/or biotics when the Collector swarms appear on Horizon.
[...]

I don't think they were neglecting those animations because they don't like Kaidan.
BW's canon Shepard is male and he saves the girl. Just that.

[...]
And maybe someone might fool themselves into thinking that they're working *with* TIM, and not for him, but why did Joker stop everything and FORCE you to go talk to him?  Shepard is not in charge, and TIM is lying every step of the way.
[...]

I agree. The working "with/for" is just semantics
I hate you don't get the change to tell TIM to shove it. In ME2 story would have been awesome.
I mean, once you finish the DCS, you have the Normandy, a kick-ass crew, the location of the IFF and the location of the Collector's homeworld. There's no reason to keep putting up with that.
I just hope in future DLC or ME3 you will be able to break ties with Cerberus.

Yeah, when Shepard was like "It's totally the same~~" I wanted to reach through and smack her. Good thing Wrex was more levelheaded when speaking to her >.>

I'm REALLY glad I'm not the only one.  I always get so much second-hand embarassment from that. :pinched:

That was really the point that I was hoping to make in that like you said, he was always the more "sensible" personality and even though he may not have agreed with Shep joining up with Cerberus, he would have been more likely to at least give her the benefit of the doubt.  If anything, his response wouldn't have been angry at She personally.

I agree completely. He might not have agreed with the way Shep was doing things, but he may have come to understand why she was doing it.

I don’t know that his response was out of character. Kaiden always struck me as sensible for the most part but also very naive, idealistic and of course loyal to the Alliance. Working with Cerberus would be against everything he stands for and believes in. I don’t think he would approve even if he did let you explain. It’s also not the only time he gets pissed of and talks in that tone to shep. If you take him with you to face Saren and then opt to let the council die for whatever reason he very definitely disapproves (unless you renegade him)

I don't think Kaidan is naive. Idealistic yes, but not naive. It'd be hard to be after 10 years of serving. I do not believe either that he would approve of Shepard working with Cerberus but as I wrote above, I think he might've at least come to understand why she was doing it.

I always renegade Kaidan so I don't know his response if he is not.

The council held you back and didn't beleive you even when you had evidence to suggest that they should, TIM comes right out and says "the reapers are back, we need to stop them" no BS involved, just calculated risks and challenged for shep. Just like Shepard said in me1 I beleive "the council can kiss my ass!" I do wish the vs survivr could have been persusded to join you though cuz that'd be amazing.

But at least you could tell the Council to "go to hell."  I can't tell you how many times I wished that option had been available for TIM.

I'm fairly sure it's the same regardless...

EDIT: Sorry, I thought you were referring to Horizon.

I meant for the Council decision. Is it really the same?

Those comments change depending on who's in your party.  If a more paragon character is present, they will take the renegade line and vice versa.

I know they always have 1 SM supporting saving and 1 SM supporting leaving the council to die. I've taken him 3 times without renegading him, one with Liara one with Tali and one with Garrus. He always seems to be the one on the save the council side. If you sacrifice the council he says “sacrifice the council for the greater good? I sure hope you know what you’re doing commander" I know, in text it doesn’t sound like he's angry but his tone sounded very pissed off
to me (tho that could just be me reading it wrong). I think its prioritises who says what. If you renegade him he seems to get bumped up on list for who supports sacrificing the council. When he was renegade and I took Liara he was the one supporting leaving them to die.

@Jane Shepard:  Very nice!  Is that default Jane or did you tweak her?  I've never played as the default, but she never gets enough love.  She's "plain" but still has an understated beauty.  She really looks the part of a female space marine, IMHO.

I think this is more of a general question, but has anyone played a Ruthless Shepard as a paragon? I kind of have some ideas for my character's RP, but how does it work in the game?

There's a conversation w/Jenkins at the beginning in which you can respond a bit about Torfan, arguing that 'you're not a monster' or that you just 'did what had to be done.'  A paragon Shepard can be someone who learned from Torfan and is trying to make amends for past actions, or a paragade/renegon can be someone who is willing to sometimes take extreme actions for the greater good, if not quite to the extent of most renegades.

My Ella is a Colonist/Ruthless who tends to intimidate people, but actually usually fills her paragon bar about 3/4 - 2/3 of the way.  She could not handle the thought of letting batarians get away after everything they'd already lost at Torfan, so she did what she had to do to make sure they finished the damn job.  She's not conflicted about her choices, but is a bit about her reputation.  Sometimes it's good to be the boogeyman, other times she wishes she could just walk into a squad and say hi and not worry about people thinking she's going to try and get them killed.  *shrugs*

huh.  lousy security guy, but he seems to be a competent fighter, and isn't worried I'll shoot him in the back

even I don't usually shoot wounded people in the face without trying to get useful intel out of them first

Hmmm. Yeah, my character is a Colonist as well, I have a vague idea of making her Ruthless as she was looking for revenge but found no solace or closure in it like she thought it would, blah blah blah. I haven't really thought it out too much but I was just wondering how the game reacted to playing a character with such a reputation who might be regretful of her action or act in a manner completely opposite to what her reputation would dictate. Her current status as Colonist/Sole Survivor doesn't really sit well with me for some reason.

Thanks! Yeah, it's default Jane Shepard. She is my 'canon' FemShep. I really love her. :) And you're right - she looks the part of a female space marine. Indeed. :)

This is how my Renegade Evie is.  She's come to terms with Torfan, but she was pretty shocked by the galaxy's reaction over the Council dying.  Evie is a 100% Renegade but she was never pro-Cerberus or anti-alien, yet now the entire galaxy seems to think she's a racist.

I imagine the one time she let herself break down over it was after that turian, Etarn Tiron, shouted her down.  It really made her feel like a hated figure in the galaxy.  She never let anyone know how much it affected her, of course.

For reference ;):

I love my colonist/ruthless.  There's not a lot in game, though, beyond a couple comments.  Kaidan calls Torfan a 'messy business' and changes the subject pretty quickly, there's the afore-mentioned conversation w/Jenkins, and... I'm blanking on the rest.  I think Sagequeen made a list of the known responses in game though, if you want to check her blog.  She did a forum thread on it too, but I don't remember the link.

There is many ways Bioware could have had Shepard working with Cerberus, they picked the quick, cheap and messy route. They should have took there time but they did it quick.

The Background/Psych - I liked them in ME1. They added a touch of humanity to Shep's character, however I think it is assumed from the beginning that Shep has moved on from her past. As much as I love the idea of the C/SS angst machine, Shep wouldn't be where she was if she hadn't moved on. Unfortunately, in ME2, Shep doesn't just move on from her past, but it's like she's forgotten about it, (or in the case of sole survivor, it never existed). :\\
