Michelle Shepard was just a young colonial girl when her entire family was killed during the Batarain raid on Mindoir. She loved her family immensely. She loves looking feminine, but it was just compensation for her very un-feminine personlity (at least the cliche feminie personality). She does all she can to stay detached, many people regard her as icy and rightly so. She always flirted with the idea of serving but wasn't completely sure of what she wanted to do with her life. Being saved by the Alliance cemented the idea for her, she was going to serve in the Alliance to do everything she could to stop what happened to her from happening to more families. She never felt like she was good enough throughout her life. She had several romantic encounters while in the Alliance but nothing really ever came to fruition. All these feelings resulted in her icy, quite emotionless demeanor towards who she considers "outsiders". Only good friends she trusts ever get close. She's never mean to her comrades though, she doesn't feel like she's good enough to jump down the throats of others. She doesn't regret what she did at Torfan. She was thust into command and did all she could. It's a major reason why she feels inadequate, too many soldiers died and she has always felt like she should have done better. Come ME1 and her feelings haven't changed, she still feels like she isn't good enough. Not good enough for the Normandy, not good enough to catch Saren but she never stops trying and vows to die chasing him if she can't best him. Meeting Liara was a dream come true for her. She always had a thing for Asari and Liara's personality compounded with her beauty completely awestruck Michelle. She took her everywhere, not only for her complimentary skills but also her personality. Michelle's conversation with Liara about Torfan was one she will never forget. Liara helped her realize that not only is she good enough, but that she is great. Liara brought out the person under hero. She needed a close friend and mate like Liara, especially after Kaidan died. Being able to continue her relationship with Liara was as much motivation as she needed to stop Saren. She finally felt good enough and it was all because of her. As she suffocated Michelle pondered Why now? until she finally kicked the bucket. She was finally happy and it was all taken away from her in an instant. She was ecstatic when she was revived, if only because she would be able to see Liara again. And the reunion was a heart-breaker at first. She knew Liara was going after the SB but didn't understand why she was treating her so coldly. She did all of Liara's little side quests and finally discovered Liara was the one who gave her body to Cerberus. After learning this Michelle understood and immediately went to go take down the SB with Liara. It was a rough ride to the end but she kept the possibility of reigniting the flame with Liara constantly on her mind as the hunted the SB. She was relieved when it was all over. Finally getting to see Liara happy as the new SB as well as getting to see Liara was great. She invited Liara to the Normandy right after, eager to get a quiet moment with her. And for Michelle, said quiet moment was one of the best of her life. Bringing up the possibility of children was something she had always wanted to do and being able to reconnect on an emotional and physical level something she needed. She visits Liara all the time throughout her mission and looks forward to being able to shut the reapers up do that she and Liara can finally live together in peace.
