I think what I love the most about playing FemShep is the fact she isn't over-sexualized. Almost every game I can think of with a lead female character (besides some RPGs) put her in some skimpy outfit. Or, in the end, she has to rely on someone else to save the day.

I know some people complain, but I like how FemShep has this tomboyish charm. She acts like a toughened soldier, her mannerisms aren't girly and she doesn't take crap from anyone. She has this air that commands respect. I just love it.

I'm kinda the same way... I don't really know why..?

Oh, and OT, but isn't the canon Revan male, but canon Exile female?

Yeah, they've stated that canon Revan is a male, canon Exile is a female.

Personally they are both females in MY canon.  :innocent:  Plus David Gaider wrote a female Revan fanfic, and that's enough validation for me.

Sorry, but a little OT: Why is it that Soldiers always seem to choose Slam as a bonus power? I've never understood it.

My Soldier, Trista, uses Fortification.  I like the added survivability.  That with Hardened Adrenaline Rush makes a fun day up close with a shotgun.  She typically prefers the Mattock, though.

^_^

I won't deny that Slam is a really fun power, though.  It has a short cool down as well.  I used it on my Adept for a while.

YES. I know some only play her because they'd rather not look at the backside of thier Sheps all the time. (I mean...really? Really?) and would rather just look at her boobs or ass.

I love confident female leads, who really are their own person and aren't sexualized to the extreme. FemShep appeals to me in that regard as well, Aislinn.

And yes, her tomboyish charm is quite awesome as well. Plus I love sarcasticShep with Hale's VA.

ALL of my characters use Shield drain, Tali's loyalty power.  Any mission with shields or synthetics (I.E. anything but the collector missions) and you have a constant supply of shield.
And because that was OT-ish

Actually, Scientific American had an article a while back on why Batman could be real, but not for long.  So if Batman could exist, why not Commander Shepard?  Aside from the space guns, mass effct fields, magic space rocks and alien side kicks that is.  =]

Anyway, getting back to femShep, isn't she supposed to be stronger, faster, better than she was in ME1?  If so, femshep is actually better than dudeshep because during the Kasumi mission she is doing everything he is doing, but in high heels.  ;)

Oh wow. That's awesome. I love that, if a game's interesting and influential enough, it causes the fanfic bug even in Bioware's own writers.

Ugh. We're OT. Uhm.....

When creating your Shep, did you draw characterization aspect from some of your other cutsom characters, like DA or KOTOR?

While not an exact answer to my own question, it does sort of relate: Cam actually came into being several weeks before ME2 came out, instead of me formulating her afterwords.

I was looking over an old notebook and, lo and behold, I found some notes on a Shep I wanted to create named Cameron, with a Colonist/Ruthless background.

It was weird, to say the least.

I'd also like to add that I choose powers for my FemSheps based on what makes sense to me for their class and personality. Some of them happen to be optimal, others aren't. I tend to shy away from picking biotic-based powers for classes that aren't technically biotics.

I made an exception in Moira's case because she's a genius when it comes to combat technology. I imagine she'd work with Jack to find a way to enhance her weapons with mass effect fields.

Agreed 100%! It annoys me when I hear comments like "Lol I h8 femshep cuz i can liek see her peniz, shes a total dude!!11" <_<

As for why I picked Slam as a soldier? I missed having an offensive power that did not involve my gun. Plus, it's fun xD That was my first run in ME2 ever, so I was getting a handle of things still. She's since been revamped as an Infiltrator, I am replaying her in ME1 as one and in ME2 she'll probably get Energy Drain.

Squad Warp Ammo is the only one for Cam. It fits her personality and give a GREAT bonus to damage when you're low on upgrades.

It also does wonders on shields, so much that I don't even have to use Sheild Drain. Because the squadmates have a lower damage output that Shep (it's taken down about 45%)  I think that it evens up the playing field for Cam's squad.

All the other squaddies with Ammo powers get the heavy versions.

Oh, and OT, but isn't the canon Revan male, but canon Exile female?

I get odd looks from my cousins when I fire up my 360.

One of them was like...."You play as a girl?"

"Yes? I like playing as a girl. Your point?"

And I said I consider Revan and the Exile to be the opposite of thier canon genders, same way I like my Shepard to be a woman. It's all preference to me!

I received this for quite some time, worse because I use to participate on roleplay forums, with the majority of my characters female. I have roleplayed practically every angle and it is not devoid of "Dude, why do you play a girl?" followed by a "Why not?" I even took up a few FF characters when I went to freelancing. Dunno, I simply find my imagination flows with a multitude of ideas that motivates my writing when I play female characters. I also find it is generally superior work. Perhaps it has to do with my whole disdain that most females in games have a tendency to be overly glamorized and I would prefer otherwise.

This is my approach as well, hence why I refused to take Reave on my Infiltrator. Granted, I theorize that Ammo powers are not direct biotics and created in a different manner, thereby not requiring Biotics to utilize. I suppose you could describe it as mass effect fields refined and condensed into bullet form. That is my logic to it.

I cannot agree more with the bolded statement.

When it comes to writing, I feel that my ideas come to be better when I have a competant female lead, like femShep!

That's great!  Funny, I used to roleplay a few characters in tabletop and some online games that were males.  I'm female IRL, but tend to go for female characters.  The few times I did play a male though, I was given compliments on my ability to play deep and interesting characters.  I don't know why people get hung up on the gender thing.  If that's what people enjoy doing, why not play the opposite sex?

EDIT:
Anyway, speaking of tomboyish Sheps... I think my newest FemShep MacKenzie is really fitting into this role nicely. Since I started my play through, I was having a hard time getting a feel for her personality.  Now, I realized she's heavily underestimated by the enemy.  Little do they know behind that adorable, freckled face is a fierce and scrappy Earthborn soldier.

And the first picture on the third page was Kyrie Shepard, aka Sage's Femshep.  I'm not quite sure of the implications of this...:?

Oh man, Constance vs. Tela Vasir was a battle of epic proportions.

Not to mention she was fueled by the need to protect and help Liara.  It was damn satisfying, to say the least.

For me, it was the most epic battle of the entire game.  It was such an adrenaline rush.  I imagine that any onlookers were stunned... just these blurred shapes whirling like tornados around the battlefield, hearing the near-constant thunderclaps of charging biotics.  :o  So awesome!

Lair of the Shadow Broker was nothing but awesome FemShep moments, really.

Well for guys, we have that inevitably fun "that is gay man!" stigma to deal with. You know, you must be stereotypically manly or boo on you. I would rather be flamboyant and not concern myself with negative opinions. I received numerous compliments myself for playing female roles, which I am always extremely appreciative of. That is my take on why some people have hang ups.

Anyhow, on to Femshep. After I finish my Selene (Infilitraor), I am still depending as to whether or not Alexis should be an Adept or Vanguard. In the case of the latter, she might replace my Manshep. Poor guy. That said, I believe it fits her more since Adepts are far less battle inclined. I merely had a super biotic theme in mind. Might even take Morinth as Alexis would find her useful.
