Lmao. Vakarian, those shades are photoshopped on. Though there would probably BE some shades that you could mod onto Maddie somewhere if you found the right modder.

Uh, I do, and I'm a woman?
I mean... I have to admit I feel scared of pissing off my fellow feminists sometimes, they would probably have my head. I love strong females, Ripley is one of my favorite characters ever and I'm always saying we need more Ripleys :P But I also love superficial things like sex appeal. I feel divided. Maybe it's cause I'm not straight. But I have no problems with Lara Croft (er actually I drool over Lara Croft), and while I think there should be limits to bouncing boobs, I'm a bit of a perv. I've been working on a pinup-type picture of my Shepard for months, but sometimes I'm REALLY scared of ever posting it anywhere, cause it's basically "glorified sexuality" and I don't wanna seem like a hypocrite.

Hmmm... Well, I guess my take is on if the female owns her sexuality or it's something that's pasted onto her - like, is it that it's part of who she is and she's still her own subject with likes, dislikes, etc. or has she completely become an object and we don't even bother thinking about her as a person?

For example, most of the ME women are really cool characters whose sexuality is a part of who they are. i mean, possibly the horniest woman in the game is Tali, and I don't find her overly sexualized at all. That annoying butt shot of Miri (with the "Investigate" option right over her crack) annoys me because it's just so blatant. It's like, let's ignore that this woman is possibly the most useful squaddie you've got. She's got a BUTT! take sometime like Liara's little wiggle when she's talking about her research in the debriefing room after rescuing her on therum. it calls attention to her figure, but it's not like it's weirdly out of place. it's sort of this unconcious moment of her being adorable. and tali managed to be super attractive to people and she shows the least skin out of everyone.

anyhow, my take. that's part of why i think femshep is a character who can romance anyone she wants and yet she doesn't seem like a mere piece of meat. you know her motivations for who she cares about and what she wants and she owns it. so, yeah, my take, anyhow.

Once again sagequeen nails it.

There's this false idea out there that while guys' brains only have room to think about sex, women hardly think about it at all.  Boy have I got a news flash for you.  If anything, sex influences even more of female interaction that it does male interaction.  Males are pretty forthright, and if they're thinking about sex they'll usually say so; if they're not saying so, they probably aren't.  Every woman, on the other hand, no matter how subconsciously she might do so, no matter how far out towards the militant feminist fringe she might be, judges her own value based upon the appearance and apparent value of the other women she interacts with, sort of a running self-critique (of course these general rules of interaction get muddy and complicated when it becomes cross-gender... "Does this make me look fat" actually means "Do you find other women more sexy than me," which is why the guys get to sleep in the doghouse if they answer yes.  But that's a whole different subject).  Ironically, the modern feminist movement has only intensified this and made it worse, in my opinion.

There's also this false idea out there (again mostly the fault of feminism) that because women aren't supposed to think about or desire sex, they should not desire to be sexy, unless they're specifically trying to seduce someone (and sometimes not even then).  But then there's the contradictory and equally false idea that you're supposed to be able to dress (or undress) as sexy as you like but if anyone notices, it's harrassment.  Ugh.  I could go off for hours about all the mixed messages broadcast to women from the politically correct social millieu, so I'll leave it here.

In short, a woman can be tough and she can be sexy.  The two are not mutually exclusive.  In fact I would put forth that those two aspects of the feminine actually enhance each other, resulting in what could realistically be called true feminism.  Sexiness is based purely upon personality and not at all upon the amount of skin being shown, which is, amusingly enough, why so many radical, militant feminists are so damn ugly.

More than any other video game character, female Shepard embodies true feminism.

Suspire, you're not wierd for appreciating both aspects of the feminine, and I don't think straightness or lack thereof has anything to do with it.  Also, your artwork looks excellent, I can't wait to see it when it's done.

Wow, that was a great post! I think I found myself agreeing with everything you said, which relate basically to a lot of sex-positive feminism points.

Thanks for your words! Gotta admit it's a big relief reading them, I'm always so unsure and afraid of being misunderstood.

And also I'm glad you like the pic. I'll link it when I'm finished, but it might take a while.

@Sable: You and sage always seem to nail these kinds of concepts and i wholeheartedly agree with the sentiment that women, like femShep, could be tough and sexy at the same time. One of the many reasons I love her as a character.

I specified "old man" because I'm male and... er, older. Not old enough to have geographic eras named after myself, but I feel that way sometimes.

I tend to have more objections to implausible sexiness thrown in. Miranda's costume looks rather appealing, but really, the lady needs a proper combat suit for ground combat. Shepard's dress in Kasumi's loyalty mission looks very nice and there is an excuse for it since her battle armor would look out of place at a formal party.

(Exception: the original Dirty Pair anime series. It's just silly. Though even they tend to put on things like vacc suits when necessary.)

@ sable: wow. - yeah, nailed it. very, very true. this is why (again) femshep really hits this terrific balance. she's just a woman doing her job. her attractiveness, sexuality, race, alignment, history, etc. is all secondary to getting the job done for the sake of others.

hmm... if THAT's not heroism, I don't know what is. go jen hale! i hope she wins the VA awards.

I figured XD I meant that as something along the lines of "if you're risking being called a dirty old man for that, imagine what people would say about me, since I'm not even a man", you know?
My English isn't all that good, sorry if I sound confusing.

I seriously, seriously doubt they will add multiplayer to ME3. This triolgy has always been about Commander Shepard. Unless they have a thousand Shepards running around, multiplayer wouldn't make any sense. Also, why would they add it in on the last game of a trilogy when the first two didn't have it? Again, doesn't make sense. I'd bet it's for a new, multiplayer stand-alone game in the Mass Effect universe.

Oh, look, what's that? A FemShep?

Everyone is all up in a tizzy because ME3 might include Multiplayer.  (heheh... Tizzy)
Why does that matter?  Why would a bit of co-op or competitive multi ruin the game?  Unless they spend less time on the campaign because of it, that's just more Femshep for everyone.

And that is ALWAYS a good thing. ;)

^ esp as ashley is gone in all my playthroughs, cgrimm.

i dunno. if i could import kyrie into ME3 and play with other femsheps, i would find that to be totally rockin. i would be best if you had some sort of multiplayer challenges totally different from the main storyline.

one commander shepard is enough for the universe.

and i wouldn't want to see the showdown that might happen over kaidan, liara, etc. there would be biotics and blood flying.

and poor jacob would be standing alone and ignored in the corner. (sorry, i'm awful. i couldn't resist)

Yeah... Poor Ash... At least I've got a MShep on my xbox for her.^_^

But yeah.  Multiplayer would HAVE to be separate.  Else the Reapers be tripping over their own tails trying to get away from the army of awesome coming their way.

EDIT

See, I'm not a fan of feminism period, sex-positive or otherwise.  In my experience, feminism tends to focus on one aspect of being a woman and blow that single aspect way way way out of proportion as if it were the most important thing in the universe.  That kind of two-dimensional approach would be parody if it weren't politics, and does just as much a disservice to women as trying to force men to be more feminine does to them.  Healthy and proper function can only be achieved with balance and holism, just like everything else in life.  Myopism never increases the clarity of the image, even if it is self-induced.

As for the whole Mass Effect 3 and multi-player thing here's what I think is likely to happen based on the way the industry actually works. Firstly there will be the one Commander Shepard in the game, it won't be like Halo where there are two dudes running around and saving the world since the story of Mass Effect doesn't really support that route. It's far more likely that the multi-player component is a separate stand-alone product that is included with the main game. This is a fairly common thing to do when the mechanics of your single player game don't really translate well to the multi-player arena of things, by creating a second yet very similar product with another development team you don't end up splitting resources and making one variant of the game feel like an afterthought.

Co-op seems very unlikely since Mass Effect still deals heavily in dialogue trees and player - NPC interaction it would be almost impossible to fit another player into the game without it radically changing the way the game works. It's possible there could be a drop in drop out option like in the newest Total War game, where a friend could drop in and take control of a squadmate during a combat mission and then leave once that is done. I'd be surprised if they did that since it seems very expensive and complex for something few people will ever really use.

A standalone but packed in multi-player game developed by another studio is far more likely.

So after all this time trying to glean out my XBox facecode and getting nothing I was satisfied with, I ended up rebuilding my Shep from scratch on the PC.

Now I have fun with FlyCam.  :wizard:

I think everyone has a different opinion on what it means to be a feminist. I have a personal view on it, just as I have a personal view on spirituality and religion. I just use the same definitions when it's useful to generalize for the sake of making a point. (the basicality of it for me is equal rights)

@the multiplayer thing, it would probably delay the release of ME3, and at worst could limit game content =/
