Oh, I like her! Yeah, my first reaction was to try just adding the mohawk scalp, but it still has a darker stripe in the middle xD The mohawk is kinda growing on me. I think I might keep it for fun since it amuses me, and since she'll have to have the regular shaved head look in ME1.

I'm not saying I disagree with you, it just gets frustrating because some people *did* find the new characters and LI just as compelling and likable as the old ones and sometimes it feels like those that do are being put down for it. I want both the new and the old and I hope BioWare delivers. That is all.

this.

For me, my apathy towards the British Sniper bandwagon is all about the fact that he is not a confirmed party member or even confirmed to be anything more than a nameless narrator for one trailer...and we already have people in his thread claiming he is "better" than Jacob and Kaidan.  Seriously???  Image IPB

I had no problem with all the speculation and fangirling over characters like Thane, before ME2 came out, because he was obviously a team mate, he was obviously new and different, and there was tons of things to talk about.

With this character, we have virtually zero information, and yet like I said, there are those comparing the "old" Human Male Party Members negatively to him.  Do they think that Jacob or Kaidan would just let women and children get killed, if they were in British Sniper Guy's position?  Because that was the only thing he did in the trailer.  The only other thing we can judge British Sniper Guy on is his appearance and voice...and yeah, I'm going to say it...he's white and he has a British accent.  That's all.

I don't want to start race ****** in this thread, and I didn't share my thoughts in the British Sniper thread because I knew it would cause people to be defensive, but I'm just highly suspicious of what appears to be some crazy hyperbole about him.  Unless those claiming he's "better" have seen some awesome, unabridged version of the trailer that I didn't get to watch, the excitement is a bit much, and it is insulting to Kaidan and Jacob's characters.  He's not some exotic, sexy new race.  We didn't get to play a game featuring this guy as the hero.  The excitement is unwarranted at this time, and I understand what SageQueen was saying...it makes me worry that the devs will see that response to the trailer, and use it for justification to minimalize the roles of both ME1 *and ME2 characters...because new and shiny is always better, no matter how little we've seen of it.

I don't think anyone is saying that.  I think everyone wants the ME1 and ME2 characters back in a big way.  However, it's just too early to work ourselves up into an anguished frenzy.  We don't know anything about ME3 and people have already made up their minds that it will be nothing but a Gears of War knock-off that sweeps Shepard and her old friends under the rug in favor of new characters.  And we just don't know that.  Mostly, it will be a looooooong year if we start panicking about ME3 now.

As long as BioWare gives us a good game that I can play a few dozen times with an epic story and amazing characters (as USUAL), I really don't care about anything or anyone else. Then again, I mostly use my imagination while playing anyway. Yeah, I want Big Ben to be a squaddie. And yeah, I want him to be an LI. Does this mean I hate everyone else and think they should be shipped over for Reaper chow? Nope.

If it makes you feel better, I highly doubt this will happen.  From listening to devs in the Dragon Age 2 forum, the characters and plot and subplots of ME3 have probably been set for a long time already.  They're too far in the development cycle for fan reactions to the trailer to have any significant impact on the game (especially since the devs DO realize that fan reactions on their forums don't represent everyone's viewpoints, or even necessarily the majority of fans).

I don't want Big Ben to minimize Kaidan's or Garrus' (Or Jacob's or Thane's) role in ME3.  Hell, I don't even want him to minimize Zaeed's role and he's not even an LI.

Basically.

I guess the part where I said "I want both the new and the old and I hope BioWare delivers." wasn't emphasized enough.

I'm not on any bandwagon either, I'm just keeping an open mind about things since I'd rather be optimistic when it comes to games and keep the pessimism/realism/bitterness/distrust/anger/irritation for other things.

I don't think apathy toward the unnamed sniper, or expressing reservations over the sudden and seemingly unwarranted love for the character necessarily equates to pessimism. I, for one, am not one of those people that think ME3 will be a disaster. Nor do I think it will be a roaring success either, as it's simply too early to judge. Sure, I'm excited, and even optimistic and eagerly anticipating some confirmed aspects of the game, but I think it's way too early to hold any definitive opinions about the game just yet.

However, I still maintain that the love for this character could have an inadvertent adverse effect on the future handling of old characters. Especially when considering the attitude adopted toward fan desire for ME1 characters in ME2.

Besides, mystery sniper is on Earth right now waiting for Shepard.  Unless he got sent ahead doesn't seem likely he's on her team.  Maybe?

They have stated that Ash and Kai will get a conclusion to their story arc in ME3 (the whole 'think of it as a traditional 3 part romance arc?') and they have also said there is definitely more DLC in the works.  There's still at least a year until ME3 comes out.
It does seem a little premature to start getting so gloom and doom.  For every fact I've read that points to Bioware not caring about the old characters I can find one that gives me hope they do.
I'm not saying I'm right.  Just that it's too soon to say.
I feel like they delivered for Liara fans.  I haven't given up hope they won't do the same for Ash and Kaidan.

I doubt a little excitement over a mystery character in a 2 minute trailer is going to make them change their plan for the game.  The fact that we don't know anything about him just fuels speculation.  The few comments I have read that are negative towards Kaidan and Jacob in particular--those people don't like Kaidan and Jacob in the first place!  leggywillow said it, at this point in the development cycle, I'm fairly sure they already have plans for existing characters.
We're a pretty small portion of the fanbase, so I don't think a few threads are going to change things drastically.  And around these parts at least, there is quite a bit of support for the old characters.  Way more than exists for Big Ben.

lol.  There's more speculation here about Big Ben than there is on his own thread.

For my femsheps
Teagan is still waiting for Kaidan.
Vera wants to reconcile with her friend Ash.  But she has no LI, sooooo...if we get some good new ones awesome.  If not, well nothing lost.  Besides, REAPERS!

I believe it's far too early to speculate on what they will do with the characters in ME3. I have faith that the developer team cares about ALL the characters they've created. I don't think they will leave much adored characters out in the cold, since this will be the last installment of the game. I believe LotSB is a good example. They gave Liara her own adventure, development of her romance/friendship and setup a role for her in the next game.

We've got a WHOLE YEAR for them to do even more through DLC. I'm sure there will be much more awesome to come. I think we should probably calm down a bit and put the focus back on FemShep.

My wishlist for my FemSheps include:
Holly finds a way to save Thane and gets her happy ending.
Trista reunites with Kaidan.
Some more development of the Garrus romance (as in a bit more emotion).
More development of current romances in general.
Lots more FemShep kicking *ss.

Now, back to working on my vid.  :P

People do seem to be getting carried away with the guy from the trailer. I don't really care if he's in the ME3 or not to be honest, but I don't think the old characters will get brushed aside. Besides didn't Bioware say the reason that Liara and Kaiden/Ash weren't squad mates in ME2 was to make sure they were alive in ME3? Why hold them over for the final game if there just going to ignore them?

Anyway here's another ME3 related wallpaper.

and re: big ben. okay, i'll say it and then be done. i find speculation like this...annoying. i feel like we have existing characters that i already care about and little to nothing has been said about their fate - kaidan/ash, thane, the migrant fleet, the krogan issues, if mordin will live long enough to see the end of the final battle.

then a new guy shows up and a bandwagon gets made just for him. it really confirms everything bioware seems to think: that if they wave enough shiny toys at their audience, everyone will completely ignore the remaining flaws in their storytelling.

okay. i'm done with my snarky rant. but there it is. sorry for being grouchy about that, but i just want to see existing characters done justice. new guy is cool for sniping a husk and all, but otherwise, i don't much care.

+1 (to all the above)

I wasn't around these forums when ME2 was announced and released, but seeing all the noise around the "new" guy (and that's all he is, "new"), i start sharing your concerns, sage. this could only encourage BW into further neglecting the characters we care about.

Jennifer Hale, whom we all know as the real life Commander Shepard (female), was nominated but did not win a Video Game Award, right?  But with Mass Effect 3 on the way, let me suggest this. Please go to  her Facebook and write a few kind words to her.  A few of us have already started the ball rolling there.  She's a professional, but a little motivation may be helpful.

Not to be a negative Nancy but if you click on the info tab there it says it is not actually Jennifer Hale's facebook.  :?  The only way to reach her that I know of is to send her an email through her official website.  Of course if everyone does it her poor mailbox will be overflowing.  lol!

It's the best scar. Jessica has it too. She got it on Elysium (ricochet, ouch) and decided to keep it.  She felt that it was the mark of her completed transition from Jessica, Earth-rat to Shepard, Alliance hero.

I miss the scars of ME1...I know it's logical that they be removed in the sequel, but still...
My favourite is the one crossing the nose ridge. Really makes it look like Shep has been in some heavy action in the past.
