I'm kind of ashamed to admit it, but I had a thing for Call of Duty.  I've been playing FPS games my whole life and CoD was pretty much my life last year and three years ago.  But I've been recovering from my addiction with the help of Mass Effect.  It helps. A lot. But because of that I really prefer the combat-capable classes.  Soldier was my first choice, and my only choice on Xbox.  I experimented with Adept on my PC, and found I actually love it.  *shrugs*

When I first played Mass Effect in 2007 (I think that's when it was first released?) I played a soldier, because I didn't have a lot of experience with shooter games and I thought it would be easier. My ex-boyfriend was all about playing the easy classes on your first runs but I wanted to try something new so when I bought Dragon Age I rolled a mage instead of a rogue and I loved it.
Then I bought Mass Effect again (stupid ex stealing my xbox 360 and all the games with it), and played an infiltrator. And fell in love lol. I like the "sneak around crates, shoot them from long-distance" - kind of style. It was even more funny in ME1 because they would be distracted by your squad and wouldn't see that one-shot.
I have yet to play any biotic classes. Should try it, but I'm scared.

Just wanted to chime in:

Beat ME2 after beating ME1, went through both adventures with a female shepard, and I couldn't imagine the games without Jennifer Hale's excellent, commanding voice as the savior of the galaxy. I'm a 28 year old man, and FemShep is my hero of choice.

Nothing to worry about, especially not in ME. Biotics were so horribly overpowered back then that even on Insanity. You could render an entire squad of enemies helpless as they dangle in the air being turned into swiss cheese. A Vanguard with Singularity as a bonus power was simply overkill. They were dumb downed in ME2, although the Vanguard Charge is crazy. Just... turn down the difficulty until you are comfortable with it.

And I found that amusing. Here I am on the suicide mission, fighting waves of Collectors and the game feels it best Selene use a weapon she has never touched, hardly seen, obviously never fired, all the more obvious has the least experience with, and does not actually own one. It is like the game says "I know I stressed "Be prepared!" religiously but you know what... screw it!"

I did manage to have the game program in her Widow once during Garrus' loyalty mission. After a quick restart during the scene and flipping in the Widow. The game opted to keep it for the animation instead of switching to a sidearm.

I know I frequently pick up weapons I don't know how to use just to pose with them!

Funny thing about that is you sort of bomb it when that dance option is chosen: the asari facepalms and ditches you.

Then there's the paragon (?) option with your Shep doin her shuffle and the asari actually LIKES that.

....The forces of the universe don't want Shepard to get down with her bad self. Like Yuki said, if Shep were ever to dance like that (well....more than once) the universe would implode from sheer epic win.

Maybe Shepard's shuffle is based on a traditional Asari fertility dance or something and she's actually an expert dancer. Or not xD

Fem Shep Infiltrator. I usually take Grunt and Garrus on missions with me. Grunt heads up the battle with Garrus not far behind. I'm at the back - every shot has to be a quick head shot or the boys get smashed. One missed shot can really effect the speed of the battle (as well as having to reload for ages)! Grunt can take a beating, but if things get a little close quarter, he'll run in. Garrus is a dead shot as well, sniper rifle if we catch the enemy quickly enough or machine gun if needed. I like that I get to keep an eye on them during a battle rather than being in the front and not knowing where the enemy is!

Funny thing though, isn't that exactly how the asari dances before Shepard gets into the picture?

I have two versions of Kallen a soldier and a Vanguard. I turned the soldier Paragon despite the ruthless background (she regreted losing her squad) but I kept the vanguard a renegade and charge fits her super aggressive personality. Vanguard really is my favorite class because when I first tried charge I thought it would have been so aggrivating to get back to cover, but when Is aw that it replenished the biptic barrier I knew it was the perfect fit for Kallen since she already had Reave to replenish her health, she could hurt enemies and heal herself making her (as cliche'd as it is) the perfect soldier. That and when she first fired the claymore she was in love with the thing since it roasted a blue suns centurian who had full shielding prior to her heavy charge into him. To keep the topic on femshep, check out this glitch when I invited Miri up to snuggle on the couch, she dissappeared and where should she end up but only:

The vanguard class was pretty much made for me, especially in ME2. Ever since I started playing video games, my dad's called my type of playing "the martyr," as I tend to just run into any situation with my guns blazing. :) The introduction of charge made me very, very happy.

This is exactly how I play games.  It's probably why I'm unbelievably bad at most video games.  Strategy and cover... psssshhh, I'm just gonna run up and shoot you in the face.  It's good to finally be rewarded for doing that.

Sigh... I wish I could use charge to any effect.  I usually shoot right out into a charging krogan or something and get CRITICAL MISSION FAILURE'd.

I do, however, LOVE singularity.  I should play adept more often...

Chignon: Shenzi caught her doing that. And made sure to get Garrus in the background.

I actually think it would have been better had Shepard kicked the merc, but the animation for that was probably too hard.

I always start RPGs with a Soldier/Warrior kind of class, then usually something rogue-ish (not much of a magic-wielding fan).
CoD2 is one of my favorite SP games and that one year I spent in a CoD4-clan was the most fun I've ever had with a game; I also love Red Storm's Rainbow Six (the ones where tactics still played a vital part) and Gost Recon games. Only after I had borrowed KotOR:wub: from a friend (incidentally around the time when ME1 was announced) I started considering RPGs and when I finally got to play ME1 I started with a soldier which allowed me to pick ARs as bonus talent for my canon Adept Laura (called her Lantrun after a makeover but I've finally realised that the original name is actually very fitting).
I find it kinda sad that biotics where downgraded in ME2 yet the focus on using firearms had increased - of course that can be rectified by modding:wizard:, but still...
Oh how I miss killing ennemies witout firing a single shot by propelling them so high into the sky that the air got to thin for them to breath.^_^ Pushing them off ledges is still kinda there but it's flawed now.

Here's an interesting question I'd like to ask.

Do any of your Shepards keep an item or object from their childhood that possess some sort of strong sentimental value? For example, a Spacer Shepard may keep a birthday gift received from Hannah, or a Colonist Shepard could keep a treasured possession of a childhood friend killed during the raid on Mindoir.

I had forgotten to answer this and wanted to. With Alexis, she keeps a pistol that was given to her brother as his first military grade firearm upon being accepted into the Alliance. It is a rarity she ever brings it out as the gun is severely damaged and barely capable of firing more than a few shots. In my write up for her story. I had used Balak to achieve a more personal effect for Bring Down the Sky. The events which unfold are the only engage where she uses this pistol. Beyond that she has a picture she was given by a friend of her father's of her family. She keeps it on her desk, yet hardly ever glances at it. Never has been able to without eyes watering and by her own admission it "ruins her image." Little prideful. :P
