Not on Insanity where they all have armor.  Actually, with my bowling average...

Oh man, do I hate husks with a passion. Aside from the fact they have armor on Insanity, they make really creepy noises and freak me out.

Speaking of dreams, I actually had a nightmare about the derelict reaper level.

Okay, I must agree with cgrimm54 and Aislinn Trista. They do suck on insanity. And do make really weird, creppy noises. So, uh, yeah.

I hate the noises they may. >_> When I have to do the mission on the ship where theres a lot of them (you know the one) I have to turn the volume waaay down so I stop getting freaked out when they run at me.

I'm just a big chicken I suppose. D8

I found the Derelict Reaper mission astonishingly easy on Insanity. I had been dreading it my entire file due to the legion of Husks at the end. Husks are irritating as it is. That said, Kasumi and Thane with my Infiltrator tore them asunder in glorious fashion. Granted, that was probably my most vocal of missions as I kept blurting out random things or yelling at my team. I swear, Kasumi was bloody suicidal that mission. She kept rushing them. Only bit the dust twice, go figure.

The creepy noises are a little off setting at first but I sort of came to like them after a while. It may have helped I had just completed that N7 Husk overload mission... or maybe I am strange.

I can't agree with anything or disagree. The noises are creepy at first, but you get used to it. And it helps tell you where they are, sometimes. Playing as a Vanguard is fun on that mission on lower levels. You need a shotgun and a shield type thing or something. And ta-da! But on the higher levels, it's harder.

With someof my FemSheps, I take Jack and Kasumi alot. Other times Kasumi and Garrus, mainly Kasumi and Garrus.

Kasumi's ShadowStrike helps a TON for me, and the armor-piercing ammo helps some too. I had warp ammo with one play through and it helped when I took Kaumi and Garrus. But Jack's shockwave helps too, when paired with a shotgun and warp ammo.

It's not that hard after a while, but it depends for some people. So I don't know really.

heh. i guess. never played me2 vanguard. just so dang fond of adept.

however, i am talking husks on insanity. when they have no armor, toss out a singularity and just shoot them out of the air. beautiful. it's when every frakking one is armored (grumble grumble).

I like to imagine that in an alternate universe from Spacer Shepard, Zabaleta doesn't end up a drunk with PTSD, and this scenario gives me warm fuzzies.

no, but i like that. :)

i never got the "got pulled out from under the collapsed house" line ever from talitha, so i didn't even know that was the story until i read it here. i'd made up a head-canon deal where the raider that came for shep got torn apart by her biotics, manifesting under panic/pressure. he died, she passed out, she got found later. i suppose a collapsing house could fit into that scenario. i always liked having shep be mostly unconcious for mindoir. somehow worked better to motivate my shep to action later, since at the crucial moment, she was unable to act.

The Derelict Reaper mission was an unmentionable profanity in my first play through....several were used as a result of multiple "CRITICAL MISSION FAILURE" messages. :pinched:

After getting the hang of it however, it was how I earned the "Brawler" achievement :D

I have a similar thing for Melantha, only it's another marine, not Zabaleta.  'Lantha had been toying with the idea of joining the Alliance prior to what happened on Mindoir (her grandfather served) but after that and having one of the marines take her under her wing, the idea was completely reinforced.

Brawler's something I'll probably achieve later on in the future, seeing how I just keep playing over and over and over. I'm bound to get the achivement sooner or later, given the fact that some enemies like Husks and Krogan love to charge Cam.

Most of the time it's "Pull+Warp combo from squaddies, and then gunfire and then more biotics when they've recharged"

I took Miri and Garrus with Cam on the Derelict Reaper mission. Needless to say, Cam was the only crowd controller combatant there, but Miri's Unstable Warp was good against those Scions.

In my present musings I had given Zabaleta two different potential characterizations. In one, his role is depicted as one of the lieutenants serving on Mindoir and while still unable to breach the Batarian fortifications. His actions push the back from the city's outskirts enough to save a few colonists. Shepard is among those rescued, yet for his heroism, he is gun downed moments following a daring rush to reach the girl (shepard).

The second depiction was originally fitted to an original NPC who knew the Shepard family and subsequently takes her into his care. I have pondered reconsidering good ol' Zab for this role, therefore he survives Mindoir. Although I hesitate because I do heavily fancy the former. Thoughts, perhaps? Actually I would appreciate any. My muse (and endless critism of myself) have not been kind.

Regardless, why think alike. The first story arc was my way of keeping to the general established canon of him being both at Mindoir and having to witness the atrocities while changing the end result. Dying as a hero felt like a nice send off to a character that in one life suffered so greatly.

Madeline is also a Colonist / War Hero.  She whitnessed her parents murders first hand.

On August 29th 2170, the colony Mindor was raided by a large group of Batairian slavers. It started as a beautiful cool day, unusual for this time of year as "August" was usually a hot month...hotter than Earth, and the one Madeline hated because of it. Late in the afternoon, two ships dropped through the atmosphere and made a strange and unscheduled landing. The 89 slavers aboard them poured out like angry bees and waded into the unprepared colony slaughtering and butchering anyone they came across.... including, then 16 year old, Madeline Shepard's family while she watched in horror from the hiding place her Mother had placed her moments before 5 slavers burst in through the front door....

*AUDIO FILE BEGINS - DR. ALLEN MEYERS - DATE 7-24-2175*

"Ah, Lieutenant.  Come in, please...have a seat"

"is this gonna take long...I just.....look, not be rude or anything...but I'm not sure why I'm here and I think it is just a waste of our time"

"Well since we are apparently skipping the introductions..."

"Your just another shrink here to examine my "delicate mental state" or "dive into my deepest most inner pain" or some **** like that.. right?"

"well, sometimes that is part of it, yes...but the reason you are here is that you were referred to me by your attending physician, Dr. Lambert ……he and I are old friends"

"ooooo...the plot thickens! So Lambert thinks I'm loosin' my marbles or something?"

"actually he was rather concerned about you…he told me you have been having quite a bit of trouble sleeping and trying for several weeks to get another prescription for Esoretnapam"

"Yeah, so..I have insomnia some times and need something to put down for the night...gotta be rested for what I do"

"Esoretnapam is a very strong sleep aid for very severe cases and is recommended in small doses only...it's not for the occasional bout of insomnia.......he has been your attending doctor for almost 7 years now, he said you have always suffered from trouble sleeping.."

"Look....I don't know what the f*** you guys think is going on, but it's nothing I can't deal with...I just need the Esoretnapam to get myself straightened back out... on a good sleep schedule"

"This doesn't look good Madeline, you know that....It doesn't look good on paper, it doesn't look good to your commanding officer. I am required to file a full report with Captain Price if I feel there is an issue...that would mean
he would have to remove you from duty....and with your military record, I just don't think you would want that to happen...I don't want that to happen either"

*short pause*

(sigh) "okay...look..I..I have nightmares that keep me awake"

"Nightmares?....what sort of nightmares?

*awkward pause*

(her voice looses all emotion, with a hint of pain and fear) "....(deep uneasy sigh)...Horrible Nightmares...the kind that….haunt your mind when your awake...and terrorize it when you sleep….images and things that…make you fear ever falling asleep again….things you can NEVER forget about, but want to so badly….."

"Go on Madeline....what are these nightmares about?

"There about uh....my family"

"You mean about what happened to them on Mindor?"

"Yeah...I.uh....I..can see my mother, she is in the kitchen preparing dinner like she always did at this time in the afternoon.

"Tell me a little about her, your mother"

"(mournful sigh)…She was so beautiful and smart….. she had a strong spirit and a kind heart....my father loved her so. He used to tell me a story about how they met on the Citadel during their academy days. He said he saw her for the first time on the Presidium....on one of those bridges, you know...the ones across the lakes?......He would always describe her as having long, flowing curls of fiery red hair ...and the most piercing green eyes he had ever seen.... with a gaze that could cut to the depths of the deepest ocean...or the deepest part of a man's soul.... ashe used to put it"

"...Go on Maddy"

"Just then, my father comes running in yelling about something that is happening....just can't understand him. He has fear in his eyes.....something I had never seen in him before. My mother is scared too, and comes to find
me...rambling....almost about needing to hide me..I...don't know why....I..I am terrified now as well....I can feel tears welling up in my eyes..."

"After my mother puts me into the service tunnel beneath the house 5 Batarians kick our front door in and barge into the house...I can hear my mother scream as one of them grabs her and drags her into the living room.....I can hear my father yelling at them to leave mother alone, I know that is what he said... I just couldn't hear his exact words..."

"I stick my head up through the service hatch in the dinning room so that I can see what's happening....I remember seeing one of them hit my mother really hard and my father jump up to attack the Batarian...the one that hit her.....then.....um....they uh....." *choking back tears*

"Then what happened..... to your father?"

"(tearful sigh)..they....the one he attacked...stabbed him with uh...a uh..large knife......when he uh..fell to his knees…another one shot him in the temple...and it splattered all over my mother…..who began screaming...and screaming.......until....they uh..um (chokes back tears)....they..(voice falters)..slit her throat..."

"..Her blood....was everywhere....it ran like ...um...like..a river..as one of the Batarians drug their bodies out the front door.........That was the last time...I..I saw either of them (tearfully panting, trying hard not to cry)"

*long pause*

"what happened after that Maddy, how did you escape?"

"Don't really remember exactly how I got out, but I remember the tears....the lump in throat and in my stomach and the pure, unbridled rage and hate …..that consumed me like a black hole. I remember making it to the kitchen and finding the knife.."

"What knife?"

"The 14 inch kitchen knife that my mother had been using just minutes earlier" I remember picking it up and...the rest is a little blurry"

"well what do you remember from that time?"

"I just remember using what my father had taught me....and killed every last one of those f***ers who had killed my parents.  I...I stabbed them, sliced and hacked at them until I was to weak to hold the knife anymore, or see through the tears, blood and rage,It was the first time I had ever taken a life." (clears throat and wipes her
eyes)……I..I was a different person after that….I felt…different..”

"I got this scar across my eye, here...from the last one I killed. He was the only one who tried to fight back and it reminds me...of, uh...what they made me into ...and that whole thing...every time..(sniff, wipes eye)...every time a look in a mirror"

"How do you feel, Madeline?"

" (sniffs)...Better....I guess.....never told that to anyone…..don't know what good it did telling you though.."

"Sometimes people carry great burdens of pain....bottled up for years and just need to release it....It is a healing process"

"don't know if I believe that, doc.....sounds like shrink bull**** to me..." (unknown rustling noise)…I don’t think telling’ you is gonna make it all go away..”

“..Well not instantly, no…..I will still take time, how much time…now that depends on you…how long are you willing to let it consume you?…like a “black hole” as you said earlier…”

"...Well...it looks like our time is up.....If you ever need to talk just..."

"..Sure thing, doc...that is just what I want...to come back and sob like a chump and share feelings...this was awkward enough as it was"

"At least let me know if you still have those nightmares.."

( door opens) "...(sarcastic chuckle)..yeah, sure doc."

(door shuts)

*END OF AUDIO FILE*

After the colony distress call had been sent, the frigate SSV Lexington and the carrier SSV Theodore Roosevelt arrived on the scene in response. Of the 497 colonists on Mindor, Madeline was one of just 22 survivors from the raid on Mindor, known now as the "Mindor Massacre" (4 others died later of wounds sustained). She and the other 22 survivors were sent to The Alliance Medical Center on Elysium for medical care. Madeline, now an orphan of the attack, was taken in by the Alliance Childcare Center and was enrolled in the Alliance Youth ROTC until she turned eighteen and enlisted with the Alliance Marine Academy.

Well, if you want the achievement and still retain your Kaidan love. You could push the Garrus romance forward, save just before the suicide mission, pick up your achieveable, then reload and tell Garrus you just wish to remain friends. He is quite a good sport about it and even agrees it is for the best. No harm, no fowl. Just a misunderstanding. :P

Oh and I read more of your work, Sage. Well a phenomenal job. I lost a good two or three hours not even realizing it.

I convinced my brother to pick up ME a couple of weeks ago and he just finished his first run through both games. As a female vanguard Shepard too, I am so proud :') He sent me her face code today so I could take some screencaps (he plays on the 360).

Her name is Scout, Earthborn/Ruthless Renegade who romanced Liara. Apparently she ended up being a bit of a TIM fan and Cerberus enthusiast ("not racist though" he says).

i completely agree. hardest part of the game, period. i dunno if it's just 'cause i roll tactical adept who is squishy and likes commanding from cover, but anything husks sucks. i just finished that crazy "Get the hell outta here!" mine side mission and barely lived on insanity. used up all my heavy ammo, too, dang it.

I found Mordin is good at stripping armor from husks using incinerate.  That makes "husk-go-round" (wide singularity) and "husk bowling" (Charge!) easier.

Scout seems like the sort of name an Earthborn Shep might have. Sort of like a nickname turned real name, in a way?

With her appearance and background, the Vanguard class suits her!

Apparently her given name is Esther, but when she was a kid she started calling herself Scout and never looked back. Has never written the name Esther down on anything, so it's a bit of lost information. We're not really sure if Earthborn Shepard has a birth certificate on file somewhere, though but Scout is legally her name now as far as these things go.

I'm glad she's a Vanguard, makes getting battle screenshots for him that much more fun. Since I'm currently playing my sneaky Infiltrator, charging and shooting fools in the face is a nice break.

I know that my Colonist (MainShep, because I do love the trauma conga line) is intensely claustrophobic as a result of her experiences on Mindoir. Ordinarily she can keep it under wraps- she doesn't like riding in the shuttle, for instance, but she can push her discomfort to the back of her mind.
If, however, she's wedged in (or under) something, she's likely seconds away from an utter freakout. When she was on Akuze, for example, there was a point in which she had to squeeze herself into a tiny crevasse to hide from the Thresher Maws. When she tried to get back out, her armor snagged on an outcropping, rendering her incapable of moving more than an inch forward or back. She almost dislocated her shoulder trying to get free.
