Vanguard: Husks? No problem. Fighting them is kind of like bowling ... but a lot more fun. ;)

Not on Insanity where they all have armor.  Actually, with my bowling average...

Husks? With armour? I'm going to have nightmares now...

What's even worse is when you pause the game and realize there's a husk with full armor RIGHT behind you.

I have to admit, while the Husks in ME2 were more... unsettling (there's just something about the way they move), I had a harder time dealing with the ones in ME1.
And by 'deal with', I mean of course that they made me want to curl up into a little ball.
Gorram Husk rush. Gorram tight quarters. Gorram mine shafts and space shuttles and arbitrarily closing doors that seal me off from my crew. ಠ_ಠ
There was one mission -I forget which- wherein I had the dubious pleasure of somehow getting trapped in the architecture, so I could only dangle there helplessly as about ten Husks all charged me at once, grabbing for me with their grabby little... husk hands. Keep in mind that this was at two in the morning, I had headphones clamped over my ears, and I was not expecting an ambush.
FUN. /sarcasm

The Thorian creepers were worse, though. Ever get a nice close-up look at their faces, just before they vomit acid all over you?
You don't want to.

On a totally unrelated note, Shepard sure does like pointing guns at stuff.

Even with armor the husks appear far more imposing than they ever actually are. Granted, the locust rips through just about anything and I was running Warp Ammo. My method for ME2 was spamming Thane's throw to instantly kill them. I was pleasantly surprised to learn Kasumi's Flashbang has a similar effect.

And ugh, do not remind me of those Ashwrath. The joys of Mass Effect are rendered momentarily dismal when having to deal with the Thorian Creepers. They have so much bloody health on Insanity and usually gang rush you. Every time I replay ME now I ponder what it would be like if the husks in ME2 were like this on Insanity. Yeah... now there's a nightmare.

It was much fun to shoot them up a mountain with the Mako on those few side missions. So much fun. :D

INORITE. I used to use the cannon on them, just to see how many times I could get them to bounce. They were much less intimidating when they made those graceful parabolas over the nearest ridge.

I dunno, he looks like he's channeling a bit of Sean Connery with that pose. >.>
(Put it down, Garrus. We all know that's Thane's schtick.)

Hey folks, been awhile since I had time to stop in here but I am back and Happy Holidays :)

Some of you will remember that a few months back someone called femShep fans "militant". Well sadly this is not a normal occurence. A friend of mine stumbled onto the blog of Alazander - lead writer for Ossian Studios, the creators of the NWN2 Premium Module "Mysteries of Westgate". Most of the recent post is good...right until said writer launches into a diatribe about how the BSN is dominated by "immature teenage girls, and boy are they militant."

http://alazander.blo...-love-nwn2.html

I won't even get into the usual remarks about guys who play femSheps (including myself) here, because we've all been here before. Anyway - I apologize for the slight OT-ness of this post but I just felt I needed to shout out about this. Maybe our efforts to spread the word of femShep is now becoming offensive to people? Do we need to hire our own PR crew?

I’ve been lurking on this thread for a couple of months now
and I am just in awe of all of your (all of you posters) gorgeous screen
shots.  I’ve been too intimidated to
post to this thread before this. Xbox player + crappy iPhone camera means no
screenies of my own, heaven forbid I should get a ToP post.

Apparently not only femShep enthusiasts, but all of us. As a missy in her mid-twenties I find it iffy to be labeled a militant teenage girl (well, to be fair to you DJ, at least he got the gender right with me) for taking this one place to be just genuinely excited about something. I see enough complaining and dealing with real problems in my day-to-day, I don't really need to bring serious into everything I do, all the time.

There's a place and time for serious discussion and criticism, but, for the life of me, I fail to see how that is what it all should be about. I would also like to say that it amazes me that the person fails to find critical discussion of Bioware games around here, personally I think such discussions are far too easy to find. Try looking for well-deserved, thought-out praise instead...

@DJ

Glad to see you back.

Personally, I think there will always be people who are jealous or annoyed by the enthusiasm of others. The real point is to not let it bother you. There's a large group of amazing people on these forums that really brighten my day on a regular basis. I don't see anything wrong with expressing your fondness for a character, story or game.

Whether it be FemShep, Thane, Alistair... Nigel Fishnchips...whatever.

To put it not so eloquently:
Haters gonna hate.

It's like saying that you shouldn't play Mirror's Edge because the main char is not a male. Or that you shouldn't play Batman: AA because Batman is a male (if you happen to be female.) That's just pure sexism and works for both ways. I like to experience both stories. It's like reading a book from different perspective; watching a movie that follows different character. I support both male and female Shepards. (And yes, I think that Meer does equally great job in VA too, no over acting. He sound normal. I don't think that JH did her best job in ME1&2, though. In Freelancer she did a bit better job in my opinion.)

@Aislinn: Thanks :) And I know, it's just...that statement is so wrong on so many levels. I am not going to start mudslinging here, but I would point out that the majority of threads that get locked are *not* the ones dominated by the kind of people who regularly post to most of the threads you mentioned.

So where he got his info/bias from, I'll never know.

Essentially he seemingly aspires to have all forum discussion related to gameplay specifically, and otherwise concludes anything to differ from his obstinate viewpoint is "ruined by teenage girls." Interesting, theory. I would be willing to wager the male population outweighs the female population here and probably by at least a two to one margin. Not as though it should make a difference. I shall never comprehend why discussing a favorite character, even to swooning exaggerations, or posting endless streams of pictures of said character, in the proper topic, is classified in a negative light. "I may have done it when I was sixteen but now..." Am I alone is surmising this sounds more like either an individual incapable of embracing entertainment in its simplest form or perhaps is overcompensating, hoping to masquerade perceived signs of immaturity is his/her world of "Serious Business?"

It is the age old stereotype people continue to reiterate. Once you reach a certain age, usually early to mid twenties. You must be "mature" and "serious" at every turn. If discussing in length and posting pictures of a character is a thread designed for such a purpose is contrasting this stereotype. Well... when the hell did I follow a stereotype? :P

@Neiti
To be fair, criticism is combative by nature. Its existence is meant to cause debate as someone, somewhere will inevitably disagree. Praise is a different medium. We cannot argue praise so readily, hence its rarity. There are exceptions, but they are rare.

I suppose for the lulz, I ought to give that blogger some credit. He may have mistaken my gender however my hair length would be Femshep to shame. So does this count enough to warrant being called a "teenage girl?" :P

Edit: For those supposed, "Man should play man and woman should play woman" nonsense. My response to them is almost always, "Aww, somebody has insecurity issues."

I don't really think the writer aimed that at FemShep fans specifically.  Sure there are "militant" fans in every single fanbase here but I think the FemShep fans are actually fighting for a good cause.  Sane people don't want FemShep to replace Sheploo in promotions.  We just want equal amount of time spent in development on her animations so there are less glitches as well as showing a few pictures of DLC and ME3 armors.  It's all in the OP, we aren't asking for anything outlandish.

I just find it funny when people call us persecuted whiners when they themselves can play the game with the character that gets more time spent in development, is on their game cover, is in trailers...etc.  I'll end my rant because it can get loooooong.

I agree with Ryn on this one. People who call us names are the ones who play the character that gets most attention in development etc. It's easy to look down on the "minority" when you're part of the majority and you like the game the way it is. They can call us whiners and ungrateful, and say that "fem Shep is just a bonus, be lucky that you even get to play her." but in the end, we're here and we're not a bunch of teenage girls.

And for the love of Cthulhu, if they can give asari strippers unique animations they can damn well give fem Shep some better animations. /end rant

on Alazander's Blog: Judging from my experience in a Tali-fanship thread back in the ME-forums (BSN didn't exist yet) things have actually improved.<_< And for the record: teenage boys tend to be much more immature than girls of the same age.

Exactly! All we're asking for is a bit of equal treatment of the female option, right? That totally makes us militant <_<

Having read the blog post, and the relevant paragraph, the guy doesn't appear to be taking a swipe at a particular group, but the entire community here as a whole.

While there may be threads that match his description of these boards, it's a ridiculous generalisation to state that a small portion of the posts represent an entire fan base. And to imply that the majority of people here are "Militant Teenage Girls" is just ignorant, and in my case wrong on both counts.

As with anything that's popular and appeals to a wide range of people, it will always attract a small group of people who act like idiots. But then people seem to be good at forming stereotypes and lumping great swathes of the population in to certain categories based on the loudest and most visible actions of the few.

I think that depends on what armor parts you're equipping your Shepard with. I tend to go with these big and clunky pieces that largely obscure her figure. I find those to be the most useful, and honestly they also make her look more badass.

Really? Because to me that just makes her look manly and unattractive.

Honestly, I'd rather just put her in one of the casual outfits. Preferably the one from Kasumi's mission.

I prefer Femshep in armor, she's female but she is also a soilder.

I use the old school N7 amor on Kate, I don't think it makes her look manly or unattractive at all.
