Oh how I love the renegade dialogue with Ash after Jenkin’s death.

Keira: “When you’re number comes up, it’s over. His did.”
Ash: “That’s grim Commander. I guess I shouldn’t be surprised, though. Not after Torfan. That must have been hell.”
Keira: “Every time you kill, it gets a little easier.”
Ash: “With all due respect, I’m glad you’re on our side.”

See, that isn't that bad to me.  A bit callous and maybe a bit shocking, but if you hang around with people IRL who deal with death, a lot of them say things like that.  Being grimly matter-of-fact about it can help them cope, as well as developing a very gross and macabre sense of humor.  (My husband is a firefighter/EMT.)





Oops, poor Garrus.  Watching his future lady hugging all over that darn Alliance guy.

I was aiming for the grim matter-of-factness when I wrote my interview with Emily Wong a few weeks ago.  At least in public.  Making macabre jokes, however, is something that you do in company of people you know won't get offended.

No matter the back ground, I figure Shepard has seen someone die in combat, and while she may not like it, accepts it as part of her station in life.  Life isn't easy for the good guy action hero.

The alternative is good too: ~I just did what I had to. I expect you to be able to do the same.

My FemShep Moira has that sort of macabre and grim sense of humor. She has been around death her entire life. It definitely is a coping mechanism for her.

Just got home from work.  Die Hard on the TV.  Ah, one of my favorite Christmas movies.

Indeed, it is one of the dialogue option that retains a realistic approach and does not trend into cartoonish evil. It is partially similar to my own disposition to be fairly honest. Not that I deal with death frequently. I merely have a strong apathetic nature towards the subject. It certainly can offer the wrong interpretation. In any event, it fits Keira exceptionally well. Her backstory is pretty much angst and she has a tendency to be rather cold.

Unfortunately, the ridiculous dialogue rears its ugly head in I believe the third exchange with Ash. When you can question if her Grandfather is a zombie. You would think she would be a wee bit annoyed by that.

Conversely I had the same reaction to reading the renegade response which I expected to be a little more melodramactic cartoon-evil (I've never chosen it in game, so this is the first place I read it.)  I think the dialogue wheel said "You start to like it" which =/= “Every time you kill, it gets a little easier.”  Credit to the 1st game for subtlety I guess.  Oh wait, recalls some of the bottom option crew dialogue.  Also, sometimes that wheel is irritatingly misleading.
