I like to think my Ceri Shepard was born in space. She feels most comfortable standing on the deck of a ship. She only goes groundside when ordered to or when operations require it ;-)

It would be a bit of fun to meet her parents but I'm happy with the odd email or comm link chat.

I would imagine in true Mass Effect future not everyone speaks english, especially not the aliens.  It's assumed for the most part translators are used, it's just not implemented in-game because it would be unwieldy.  Or it's possible everyone's speaking a version of galactic basic trade language and it's in english for the sake of the audience (us.)

Shepard makes note of her use of a translator at least once, when talking to Thane.  When he calls her "Siha" the first time, she mentions her translator not working there.  Also in Lair of the Shadow Broker the yahg is said to know 14 languages without use of a translator.  So it seems to me that all the aliens at least are each speaking their own languages, and that possibly could extend to the humans as well.

I find it pretty likely that earth speaks a common language by that point in time though.

Also there was an article in Cerberus Daily News mentioning an "attack" by an elcor. He did something that disabled all the translators of the audience in a theatre and it cause panic because nobody could understand each other. I think ME is just in English because well, that's the language Shepard speaks and we just hear what she hears through her translator (which I imagine is just an earpiece that everyone is wearing)

Mass Effect takes place in 2183. I very much doubt that all languages will merge into one, universally spoken 'common language' in only a few decades.

I don't mean that everyone speaks only one language. Just that there will be something more common by the time. Especially if you consider a large majority of the planet coalescing to form one umbrella of the Alliance, some form of common communication would be the most efficient means of communication, especially written.

Ah, I see. Yes, that could very well be.

But anyway, FemShep:

Wow, been at work all day and a lot of pages to catch up on!

@Chignon

My Earthborn Sheps are Moira and MacKenzie.
Moira grew up in Jersey.  From the moment I created her, I knew that's where she'd be from.  ^_^

MacKenzie is from Dublin.  Yes, she's Irish.  I just tell myself she lost her accent, since she enlisted in the Alliance at a young age.

Found the article regarding broken translators: Here

Regarding Earthborn Shepards. I've read a lot of backstories that has her in the gang but she doesn't like what they're doing/leaves the gang early. Has anyone got a backstory for their Earthborn where she actually has killed people and believed in what the Reds did etc, before her eyes opened and she left the gang?

I also found the codex entry on language and translators. Interesting.

I'm still thinking over details of Rhona's life before she joined the Alliance. In my head, other than being poor and on her own, her childhood really wasn't that bad. I imagine she got bounced around the system quite a bit, foster care, government housing and the like. Most likely she slipped through the cracks and took care of herself quite a bit, skipped school and the like. She was only peripherally with the Reds, got involved with them because she knew someone who was a member. At the time they were a pretty disorganized group of small time thugs, all very young. She took part in some petty crime, theft and vandalism, before she decided the Alliance was a good option for someone like her. Definitely nothing earth shattering, no abuse, no murder. She was just a delinquent and being smart as she is, saw it had no future.

I haven't played through with an Earthborn yet, but I might later.

Renee is a spacer, but her mom's from around Stillwater, Minnesota, while dad's from Edmonton. And she went to school in North Dakota of all places. . .

As I see it with her, she's comfortable being in both shipboard and on ground, but somehow, being on a station or ship just feels more right.

Moira was actually quite entrenched in organized crime at a young age. For a long time, it was what she wanted.

She's incredibly intelligent. Her ability to manipulate people, genius-level talent with tech and martial training make her a force to be reckoned with. It's difficult to explain why she joined the Alliance.

I believe the best way to put it would be:
She felt as if her life was being controlled by other people. Moira realized she wanted to choose her own path, for better or worse. The Alliance was the best way out, so she took it. Once she became a Spectre, Moira truly felt like she'd achieved what she always wanted. The freedom to do things her way, to help who she wanted, etc. She doesn't miss the Alliance at all, to be honest.

That doesn't mean she didn't care about her crew, or friends.  They're all very important to her.

Here's a question to those who play fem Sheps with spacer background. Would you like to meet your parents in ME3 or do you like the fact that it's only a voice and no image.

I would definitely like a quick cameo appearance for Hannah Shepard, although I'm not really holding my breathe. But it would make perfect sense to finally meet her in ME3.

Yay for photobucket! I know, I am waaayyyy late for the Noir, but I  suck at photoshop. So I made one using photobucket. I'm not sure I like it, so I'm going to try another pic but hope you all like it.

EDIT: Well here's the other. Tell me which one you guys like better.

Okay, I'm SO SORRY for the awesomeness I'm about to post. (feel free to throw all sorts of manner of debries at me) but in the lastest definitive mass effect cast interview Both shepard VA's were asked abot thei favorite quotes. Her's what Both had to say.:

Mark Meer (Commander Shepard)- The quote I usually pick is “I should go”, solely for the sheer number of times I said that phrase in the booth. The infamous reporter scenes and the scenes with Conrad Verner were fun, especially because the other characters were played by my good friends April Banigan and Jeff Page. To this day, whenever I see them, I punch April out and wave a gun in Jeff’s face.

Jennifer Hale (Commander Shepard)- “I should go.”

*prepares to have stuf fthrown at him*

That's not a human body, Mordin.

For one, the torso isn't a rectangle and also...the heart isn't that far up the chest.

I don't think it's likely or even necessary. Shepard's accent could have lessened over the time. It's not unusual.

*trying to think... I lived in the MidWest portion of the USA til I was 16 then moved down to Texas... sometimes I do use the term "fixing" to mean "planning on something" but not much else has caught on...*

In my case, I guess it's mixed results, y'all...er, you all.

Clearly the skeleton is wearing a towel and is using a red clip to keep it up. It's just very modest, sheesh.

Hm. The only Earthborn FemShep I have setup so far is a strange attempt on my part to introduce a grown-up Radical Edward from Cowboy Bebop as "Edward Shepard" and I don't think the original character knows where she was born, and spent a lot of time wandering the Solar System travelling with a wacky group of bounty hunters...

Actually, crossover vids are turning out to be a lot of fun.  I might do a few more, if I can think of good ideas.

Hey Aislinn, what are you doing out of your vid-making room?  I thought Chignon or AD were guarding the door or something. Slackers.  Going off the "eat" or "sleep" or whatever it is people do in "real life."

Only joking of course.  Not about the vids though.  They're awesome.

Unfortunately, their ability to guard a room is about as effective as the guards from the "Swamp Castle" sketch of Monty Python and the Holy Grail...

Oh and Aislinn's husband is about as axe-crazy as Lancelot from the same movie. There have been... casualties.
