Here's a question. How would your femshep feel to being treated like a lady? In other words, have doors open for her, open a car door for her, tip their hat to her, take off their hat when she is in the room, pay for her dinner even if it wasn't a date, etc, etc, etc or is it a non issue? I ask this of all femsheps, but direct it mostly to those who romance Kaidan as he does seem to be the gentlemanly sort.

And what of the reverse. There are examples of flagrant harassment in the game, but what about whistles, off color comments, leering eyes, etc. How would your femshep react to being whistled at on the street?

Most of them would find the former antiquated but quaint, and they wouldn't be offended by it.  They would understand that whoever did it almost certainly wasn't being patronizing and would tolerate it to varying degrees.  Evie might have a snarky "Really?", but after being treated like scum during her childhood on Earth, she would probably be more pleased by it than some of my other Sheps.  A lot of her motivation is her battle to be respected, and she would view it as a sign of respect, not anything rude.

Delta would be utterly charmed by it, mostly just because of how old-fashioned and "classy" it seems, like going to a fancy restaurant with a billion utensils.

I imagine the others would be fairly neutral about it and tell Kaidan (or whoever) "You really don't need to do that".  Not offended, but wavering between embarrassed and flattered depending on her mood.

After all, being an officer in the military, Shepard would be used to a form of respect kinda similar to that.  Hat tipping, opening doors, etc. may not be an everyday occurrence, but it would still be something she associated with respect rather than gender.

As for wolf whistles and cat calls... most of them would ignore it admirably, unless it was something that TRULY hit her berserk button.  If someone said to Evie, "Hey baby doll, drop that banged up turian and come get a real man", may heaven help them.  Of course, even Evie would stop at threatening them, something like "You see my gun.  Do you really want to do this?"

Actually, Kate would enjoy being cat-called now and then.  It'd make her feel normal.  Though if Kate wanted to be treated like a gentle lady, she is probably pining over the wrong guy

She just ignores it. Grown up on earth teaches you this (or the opposite...)

If Kaidan would hold the door open for Noah or do any of the other things, she would recognise it for what it is coming from him, a thoughtful gesture.

She'd ignore it or make a snarky comment. If she has a good day.

As to the other question, those who romance Liara, do you feel your girl has to be "the man" in that relationship?

Nope.  They are both "the woman" in the relationship, and that's most excellent.

This x1000, and that's why I feel that LiaraxFemShep is a better fit than her with MShep.

Yeah, I like it that the relationship has a different dynamic or feel to it b/c of that.

Hey... reading this, I was just struck by an epiphany.  FemShep and Liara just feels better than manShep and Liara, always has, but I never really could put a concrete reason to it until just now.  With femShep and Liara, they both are equals in every respect.  Their individual strengths show through and neither one dominates the other.  When paired with manShep, Liara's overshadowed, she feels diminished.  I can't say why, since the dialogue and events are all exactly the same.  Maybe it's the whole "Captain Kirk banging the alien chick" stigma, maybe it's the big hunky marine taking advantage of the impressionable young woman stigma, I don't know.  Not to say either of those is occurring or is correct, but maybe they influence the perception of it.  Nevertheless, the femShep/Liara romance feels a lot more natural and less... I dunno, sleazy?  Not the right word but i don't know what I'm looking for.  Regardless, femShep/Liara feels much more equal and fair.

I may feel that way largely because of my perceptions, but the fact that you can hear Liara sobbing in LotSB with MShep, but she's crying quietly with FShep leads me to believe my perceptions are pretty much right-on.

Yeah, perhaps being "the man" wasn't the best way to put it.

UJ is a bit of a control freak and did "lead" Liara at first as she was inexperienced, but Liara was a quick learner.  Though UJ continued to lead for a bit, the roles eventually reversed and Liara took the reins, so to speak.  On the battlefield and in their professional life UJ is Commander.  In their personal life they are equals.  In the bedroom, Shepard lets wsomeone else be in charge for a change.

She's way too skinny to be Amazon. To be honest femShep looks like average, out of shape female in her 30s. No muscles whatsoever, way too wide hips and long thin neck. I wish she looked like an Amazon.

I think FemShep/Liara is simply more interesting and contains far greater chemistry, to be honest. The dialogue may be identical, but the tone and atmosphere of the relationship feels vastly different.

Uh... okay, have you actually looked at femShep's ass lately?  That woman is toned.  I could only dream of having that muscle tone.  Just because she isn't ripped and bulging with muscle doesn't mean she's out of shape.  Yes, her body shape is very average, but that has nothing to do with being in shape, and frankly I love that about her.  Here's a kick-ass and attractive woman who's still just average in most respects.  Her her waist is a bit too thick and hips are a bit too wide and her thighs are a bit too large, she doesn't have giant boobs or a wasp waist or legs a mile long, but she is still fit and looks great.  It's awesome to see a game, of all things, admit for once that saving all life as we know it does not, in fact, require a supermodel.

I will give you the comment about her neck, though.  I don't know what the modelers were thinking, but people just don't have necks that long in real life.  Unless you're Nefertiti.

A lot of it is attributable to Jennifer Hale's voice acting.  She does a sexy and emotional Shepard far better and more believably than Meer, who comes across as forced or worse, insensitive (HAH, that's where the sleazy vibe comes from in the manShep romances!).  I mean... her "Come back soon, Liara" just breaks my heart all over again every time I hear it.  Or heck, even think about it.

Can I just say that I agree with Sable's post?  It is SO refreshing to see a strong, female character that does not have huge boobs and is not oversexualized.  FemShep has such an amazing, normal figure.  Not all women have ridiculous hourglass figures with ridiculously huge racks and super long legs (though some do) and it's nice to see that BW didn't feel the need to give FemShep (or any other women in ME1 for that matter) a super-sexualized build.  She's just... normal.

Athena would just punch them, no matter how kind they acted. Mind you, she's from Earth and her boyfriend is a bartender.

Lili would be nice and say thanks, but if they stared at her chest, ass or anything else even a whistle...they'd be on the ground in a second. She only has eyes for a certain Turian. She really wanted to kill Harkin for calling her
princess.

Lia, hm, she'd throw them bioticly if they whistled at her, since her past still bothers her. But if they opened a door for her, she'd thank them.

And my infiltrator, Titra, would just say thanks for the door and punch them if they looked at her chest and ass and etc. (I don't have any pics of her...yet.  But she has black hair, green  eyes and is quite pale and has her hair worn up in that french twist looking style. Oh and I will start working on her past story. I have no clue who the hell she will romance.Image IPB)

Madeline does display a "tomboy-ish" attitude, but would be quite flattered and taken by such gestures. Maddy's father, Anthony, was a true gentleman and always treated her mother in this fashion, so she always thought very highly of these "gentlemanly gestures"

...As for "cat calls" and "wolf whistles" , she would be aggravated for sure, but would most likely let it slid That is unless she was in a "mood"..then her mother's "hot headed spirit" might make an appearance and verbally tear the instigator "a new one".

Now, If she was grabbed somewhere inappropriate by someone trying to be "fresh" as her mother put it, it would get "messy" real fast. At the age of 21, Maddy and several friends/crew mates from SSV Southampton (on which she was stationed at the time) were out at a bar celebrating their first deployment. A rather loud, drunk and disrespectful freelance mercenary type began heckling and perusing the young Madeiline Shepard. She ignored him until he became angered at her dismissive attitude and grabbed her posterior, calling her "cupcake" as she headed to the bar for a round of drinks. No sooner did his hand make contact with here the right side of her "rear end" she grabbed his hand with lightning fast reflexes. As she spun around to face him, she twisted his arm around and back on itself into a position that the human arm was not meant to take. He was surprised by the her strength and grip and with a loud "snap" he was brought to his knees in pain. He looked up at the girl who had just broken his arm as she starred back at him.  Her eyes were transfixed on his with a look in them that would scare any creature to death and said in a soft and calm tone "Touch me like that again, and I'll take that hand rather than just braking it" as she drew her combat knife from it's sheath. Needless to say his attitude changed considerably :)

Interesting...you were able to articulate how I feel...thanks OMG you are awesome!

But I do get what you are saying...no media exists in a cultural vacuum and ME is no different.  There have been countless tales of space marine dude goes into outerspace and finds a hot green/blue alien gal.  Most of these 'relationships' haven't been very equal, unfortunately.  This past Sci Fi media colors our perception of current Sci Fi media (i.e., Mass Effect).  I can't recall tales of female outerspace travlelers romancing aliens, especially female ones.  FemShep/Liara feels kind of 'new' and cool.

Alexis would find the chivalrous behavior, thoughtful. And she'd enjoy it. She has no problem being treated as a lady, and not just the marine. She accepted that she's both.

As for the harrassment, she's normally the type who would let it roll off her back. At least until she got to the gym, or better still the firing range. She'll take out the annoyance on someone else, and not let the people get the best of her. If it's lowkey enough, she'll be mostly amused.

I agree with both you and Sable. Shepard does not need to be a bodybuilder to get the job done. In fact, I would kill for a body like that (well aside from the neck.) So she's not overly muscular, big deal. I think she looks great.

I agree, I think she looks great...she's just a normal woman, with a normal body who can kick ass without double D's. I love that she's attractive in the normal sense. not like Miranda for example.

I would argue the distinct lack of double D's makes ass-kicking easier.  One of the things I love about femshep as a female video game character, she has normal average sized boobs!  Someone make a cake or something.

Also muscle mass does not always equate to strength.  Tis the truth.
