Meghan doesn't have a special hate for batarians, she's a little worried about turians, in ME1, being an Earthborn. (A certain C-Sec officer took care of that for her, though.) But she'd wrestle with that decision similarly. I've never DL'ed BDtS, but I think Meghan would have just as much a problem with letting that bastard go. Especially after paragonning Garrus at Saleon's confrontation.

I think it has quite a bit of impact on the game experience if you have a story/background for your character. I even appraoch fights differently depending on if I am Paragon or Renegade, or playing 'Tony the Tiger'. Sometimes you're the good Shep, sometimes more of the kicking butt and taking names type of Shep. How about when the crap hits the fan? Will you let your love interest die? (Not in the game permanently, but even in the middle of a heavy firefight?) Who do you send 'up the chain' to sacrafice to *THAT* Vorcha Pyro? Do you stand for whats right, or are you just there to stop the collectors, darn near becoming one in the sacrafices and upgrades you have made? Could you really let Kal'Reegar die being the fine Quarian that he is? Is it so wrong to let Miranda see her sister for just a few moments?
There are so many chances to put your own little twist in the game that its very hard to think of them all. So, I set a 'base' for my character, with some pretty well set guidelines. I like to see how each character I make (or dream up) responds to each situation in the game. Maybe I'm just too imaginative - I dunno, but it sure does make the game more fun to me.

Yeah, Rory's a colonist, so no special worry for Turians. First Contact War was before her time, so she's neutral about the race as a whole, and willing to take people on their individual merits - and between Garrus, who she really likes, and the Turian councilor, who she pretty much despises as much as she despises Udina, her opinion hasn't changed. Really, she has no problems with aliens who aren't killing innocent people, except Batarians, who are her big blind spot. They're all slaver terrorists to her. She's into cultural understanding as long as it's harmless. Having a "cultural imperative" to enslave other sentient beings is not harmless.

Hale and Meer having a nice little Chat on Omega (still can't believe he does the Vorcha voices)

Mark Meer is actually an incredible voice actor. In addition to the vorcha, he does many volus voices (including the unforgettable Biotic God), several turians, the Dracon Trade Center PA as well as various other computer and news announcements throughout the game, the quarians Prazza and the captain of Tali's ship with their heavy Slavic accents, the window-push merc in Dantius Towers is Mark Meer... his voice is all over the Mass Effect titles, and many times you can't even tell it's him. It's just the lead role of Shepard where his acting falls short. Given his skill, I blame the voice directors.

I can't bring myself to dislike Meer every since I saw this strange video. I have no idea why I find it so funny, but I do.

I still haven't figured out why they allow Hale's portrayal to be much more expressive and involving, unless there's a perception that a woman is supposed to be more emotionally demonstrative or something.

It's from an improv video he did about the living bible, and it's really funny. It's not him per se it's mostly the way BioWare is using him, trying to play up this emotionless soldier archetype.
