She's stunning!

She is stunning all right!  She looks like Olivia Wilde from TRON Legacy!  That's incredible.

re: dollShep, well, I can sort of see that argument.  Some Shepards are pretty perfect; it's possible to create some model-quality faces with certain features.  I like it though... her body is pretty average, why can't Shepard have a stunning face?

That said, I did an experiment in creating a plainShep, trying to choose the most asymmetrical features I could in the creator and using Face 9, one that's notoriously difficult to create anything decent on, as well as Complexion 2, one that's almost impossible.  Thus came about Christine Shepard, my Spacer/Sole Survivor Adept averageShep.

Image IPB

I like her a lot, even though she isn't even close to pretty.  She animates really well, and the face fits Hale's voice acting perfectly.  I think I could manage a playthrough with her despite my difficulty of identifying with any Shepard except Jessica, and I plan to try pretty soon.

Image IPB

Her most outstanding feature is her eyes, brightest green possible and laaarge.  Everything else is designed to look a bit masculine, actually.  The scar is from the reconstructive surgery; they had to rebuild her face because of the thresher maw acid that hit her in the helmet.  Since it wasn't environment-sealed, the line is where the visor ended.  There's only so much that reconstructive surgery can do when you have no nose left.

My idea is that because of her biotics and her status as the daughter of ranking Alliance brass, she kind of got forced into her current position.  Her service record isn't all that outstanding, but she's treated like this big hero because nepotism put her in a position where she ended up as the only way they could salvage a total disaster.  She's a little bit... jaded, I suppose, realizing that her biotics are the only thing really making her stand out and the rest is luck and politics.

Ive grown to love that hair style. It looks so odd on the Character Creator screen which I think has put a lot of people off.

I hope that for ME3 we see a few more styles made available. However realistically I think we will only see updated textures again.

Better? Yes it would have been if you'd posted that before I went to bed.

But thanks anyway. =]

Now for a question. For those that have multiple Shepards; If you could only have one Shepard, which of your's would you pick?

If I really, really had to choose it would be Jane. I've grown very fond of Jennifer since I write about her, but Jane was and still is my very first Shepard ever and she always will be my choice as my Shepard if I'd have to choose. (I hope I never will or I will go :crying:)

Have to think happy thoughts! Pic of Jane will help. :D

Thought this was interesting. Its from the DA2 forums asking when we get to hear Lady Hawke's Voice Actor. Dont want to twist Dave Gaider's words as it is his personnal preference, but it looks like she could go exactly the same way as femshep.  Go Marketing department!!

David Gaider wrote...

slimgrin wrote...She had better be British.

She is (English, I mean). She sounds good. I like her better than Male Hawke, but that's just my personal preference. I'm sure you'll hear her soon enough.

So hopefully that leads to reinforce/recreate this for DA2:

Jesse Houston : Femshep is the fan favorite but not the marketing

If so fingers crossed these two strikes will make the marketing department start to have a rethink for future Bioware projects.  Of course not having heard her yet I may be jumping the gun. She may not prove to be that popular in the end.  But Im optimistic she will be just a big a success as femshep!  She already has alot of interest.

That's a hard question. Each of my femSheps has a unique personality and I love playing all of them. That said, if I had to choose one I would choose Jih. She was my first femShep and remains my favorite. Prosperity would be a close second and then Lucy and Andromeda.

Short/pulled-back-from-the-face hair gives feel that Shep is strong-willed, determined, disciplined. Like a Commander should be. B) Plus i love the style

I haven't even played Mass Effect 2 with any other Shepard yet (five times as of now ^_^), but might do so this year with my Biotic and Soldier. So, my first created Vanguard remains my favorite.

You guys have some really pretty Sheps... Do you feel that it adds something to your gameplay to have a pretty Shep? I deliberately made mine to have some flaws. Attractive, I think, but human. And I see many which look - forgive me, this is not meant to be an insult - but so perfect they almost look like dolls. What's the appeal? Particularly for female players, doesn't it irk you a little to have people's first impression of your gameplay be "she's pretty" or "she's not"?

I tried to make them look pretty but with some badassery at the same time. I think I failed a bit with that last part with Hayley, like sometimes she looks too cute.
Anyway, I don't care about people's first impression. I know they're not the prettiest around but they're my sheps and I'm proud of all three <3

Oh geeze.  That's a tough question, I can almost liken it to be being a parent and trying to choose your favorite kid.  lol!  I will go with Kathryn only because she was my first and I just don't think I would ever be able to say no to that sweet, kind, face.   I love my Shai uberly but ugh....I had to make a decision.  Just for that I will post Shai pics.  A music video featuring her and Liara is coming in a few days!

She had it in ME1.  But when I tried to recreate her face, the nose with the bump in the bridge was really ugly.  So... I changed it when I got rid of her ****-ish makeup.  Cerberus gave her the nose she was born with.  Instead of the broken one.

so, i know i'm responding to a topic that went on a few pages back, but i missed this and YES! it TOTALLY irks me that this is the first question raised.

i guess the thing that gets me about this is i don't really hear this same complaint made about MALEshep. people make their malesheps, some are "handsome" some not - some youngish, some not - but i just don't hear the "he's ugly" "he's hot" complaints/debate.

i read this blog the other day on VG females. it kind of annoyed me because 1) the lady totally left out the women of ME (as the comments back to her attest, ME boasts some of the best female characters ever) and 2) notice that every woman "created" had to be modified to be hotter than the original characters with personality.

i just find it kind of...annoying? hypocritical? odd? that female action heroes, even when they try to break the mold, are STILL judged first by their appearance. sure, a male hero's appearance matters, but his badassery is taken as PART of his appearance and his appeal. a woman's appearance and her abilities are taken as two separate things.

"she's too pretty to be able to slay zombies" - do you ever hear anyone say "he's too muscle-bound and handsome to slay zombies?" ah...no. not really.

so, YES - it does always raise my hackles to hear this question posed.

sadly, here we have screenshots most of the time, which simply show the pretty face. i think the real test of the femshep is how she animates up - how she looks when saying hale's lines. because i know my femshep has struck some as "cute" or "sexy" - but when she's laying down a cold delivery of a line to a baddie or laying rounds of lead into the enemy, "cute" is really the last thing I think of.

further, i think the "doll" quality is partly the CC's fault. it's HARD to create femsheps that don't look doll-like even if their features aren't regular. and it's even harder to create not beautiful femsheps and yet keep them looking human. the CC just has very little room for error. nature has resources for creating unique beauties that VGs simply do not.

so, yeah. not trying to derail, but just to lay out a "arrrrghh!" sort of reaction i have to this issue. i just find it annoying that femshep STILL gets little recognition and when she does, it's mostly of the "she's hot" or "she's not" variety. and yes, this is a trend that continues IRL. while men certainly do have more pressure to fit a mold of attractiveness than society often acknowledges, women are constantly held to this bizarre double standard of being expected to both a) be "pretty" and yet B) are often not taken seriously if they ARE pretty.

When she can disassemble you with her bare hands, she shouldn't care.

Jillyfae and I got into this conversation a while back. One thing we noticed about soldiers of either sexes is their walk. You can tell the ones that can kill you with their little fingers just from how they move crossing a room. FemShep (and Kaidan and Ashley and Jacob) should have that walk down. FemShep more than the others, obviously. She and Anderson should move a lot more fluidly than "regular" marines. (Kaidan, Ashley and Jacob are far from "regular"). Granted you can't have that fluidity in a VG, but in fics, I try to address it by having Meghan watch Anderson walk, for instance. Or having Kaidan watch Avery walk.

Being pretty has **** all to do with it.

good pt, sia. shep's linebacker run doesn't really say "deadly" to me, either. knowing a fair share of martial artists, you're right, there is something in the movement that has it.

i was going to add that i think another part of it is that for male attractiveness, "big and strong" is often a (if not THE) standard of attractiveness, so if that's covered, it sort of encompases "being soldierly". female attractiveness has always been sort of torn between being finding physical fitness attractive on the one hand and yet finding vulnerability attractive on the other. a very pixie-like, petite woman can be considered very beautiful, and yet does not (immediately) make one think "ooh, soldierly" (though the likes of michelle yeoh are quickly shooting that down. on the other hand, you get people like katee sackhoff from BSG and some people think she's hot but other people think she's "manly." <-- that is, she's too big and strong (masculine attractiveness traits) to be beautiful in a female sense.

it's all moronic, as i think attractiveness is largely about what a person can DO, but there you go. and i do think that the fact that femshep's body is about above-average height, slim but muscular build, and relatively well endowed in the chest zone, and yet walks with NO grace at all that means certain faces may strike some as "off"

Michelle Yeoh and Maggie Q and Katee Sackhoff do defy that stereotype.  The problem, though lies in the capability of the medium.  Not even maleShep walks like he should.  FemShep certainly doesn't.

Part of why I like ME is the variety of Shepards possible, so I can't answer that question /at all/ gameplay wise, but Ella is by far the best developed for fic/discussion purposes.

(And thanks for the shout-out Sia. IRL, when you see someone new you generally notice how they move, how they interact with their environment, and all sorts of body-language clues that just don't translate to VG animations. Yet, at least.)
