I'm pretty sure it's just a glitch.  You could ask in the Jacob thread to be sure, but I've heard Kasumi glitches out sometimes on the romances.

Hope it is just a glitch, I was pleasantly surprised tbh, he is very caring (heart still belongs to Kaidan though... ) but I do want to have other experiences in the game, iyswim?
I went looking for the Jacob thread late last night but I got about 5 pages in and gave up looking for it (it was very late and I was tired) and I am impatient and wanted an answer, lol.

Jacob has a bad rep period. People don't use him, especially with femshep based on their interaction, since Hale's in the mood when she readds her Jacob Dialouge.

Those are two different things. One, his interaction with femshep. It's terrible IMO.
I only talk to the guy once: to unlock his LM. Kelly won't shut up about it.

The other one, his value as squadmate on missions. To make some justice, in the strat forum, he has his own thread Jacob: the guide. I even make a vid with his LM xD

i had a moment of insight when i read (and i cannot remember where) someone saying that their fave romance was jacob, because (and i quote): "Nothing is hotter than a hot woman coming onto an average guy."



and that was when it hit me that the jacob romance was really written from the male perspective of a fantasy of getting with femshep.



i do think there are some lines in there that are nice, but i found it off putting because i felt large chunks of the dialog objectified femshep into the brainless floozy and why would i want to watch that?

it also made me realize that the other femshep romances were written with both male and female fans in mind. garrus? guys and gals like that romance. liara? also has a wide appeal, regardless of sexual orientation. the kaidan one, in particular, is amazing well-written and targeted primarily at a (gasp!) female audience. not that guys can't like the kaidan romance, but it really is written more with women in mind, i think. part of why he gets so much hate and part of why he has his devoted following.



anyhow, that's my take on jacob. poor guy isn't a bad character and he+miri are hella useful against collectors. but the romance, imo, was written as a "let's get it on with femshep" thing and even if someone wanted that, they'd hardly want to see her go all dippy and dumb in the process.

Understood.  I'd give you a femshep/Jacob hug, but I haven't got one. 

It's the thought that counts  I'd make do with a Kaidan hug................................   (I am only doing the romance once with Jacob, Kaidan still has my Shepard's heart)

That's a very interesting perspective, sagequeen, I hadn't thought about it like that. I really wanted to like Jacob as a squad mate, since he seems to respect FemShep a lot (he's the only one who actually salutes her). But I talk to him and she immediately goes into flirty mode and it completely ruins it for me.

@sagequeen: You know, that's an excellent point and one I hadn't considered before. I just don't think it works because I'm a fairly average guy and I don't usually go around talking to women like I was in a pr0n. Jacob is average nice guy for around half that lil' adventure, the other half he's a pr0nstar, which is a crying shame.

snipped to avoid taking up alot of the page. I like that through all of that you didn't make the "She deserves a better man than I" line out to be like he was devaluing femshep like most people do when talking about Jacob, even though he says he same exact line to Maleshep.

Once you get past the flirty voice into buddy territory it is fine though  He treats Shepard with a lot of respect and she just chats to him like you would a mate, imo. Jacob is the victim of people projecting Hale's stalker voice onto him, lol. But he treats her like 'one of the boys', it's quite nice, I wish he didn't suffer from that BioWare disease of 'no romance, no parle', though, I like a chat in the armoury

You know, you're right.  I've done the romance, and it didn't seem like Femshep, despite sounding like drunken sorority girl, was actually in control of the romance.  Jacob was.  So yeah.  It does seem like someone's fantasy of getting to get with Shepard.

Funny, just after I wrote that post the UPS man came.  Gotta go to work, soon, though.  =-(  Need to pick up a cable on the way home for my SATA internal TB anyway (didn't realize it didn't come with any when I ordered it).  I've got everything in the case and ready to rock.  *sings*  I'm so excited...and I just can't hide it...

I actually think he knows about Miranda's infertility and couldn't overcome it.  That line now makes him seem humble when he talks to FemShep, not that she's second class.

I never thought about that.  You could be right.  To be honest, I like Jacob.  He's a good guy, who tries to do the best he can.  It's also obvious he's not perfect.  I like those kinds of characters.  The romance does seem to come off a little one-sided, now that I think about it.  Definitely some good points and ideas.
