Time to contribute!

Exploring a New World
Image IPB
Darkness falls upon a strange new world revealing . . .

Ok the background comes from a photo project I did awhile back. . . And yes in that photo it is a huge file 1.6 or 1.7 GIG a yipes! . . something like 3000 x 2200 + or so! (Imagine that for ONE photo!) While Lynn is no where near this large (in her clipped file), I did a resize on the background and brought it down to a much more respectable 10 or so meg!. . . The sad thing is JPG compression pulls out the subtle effects (it can change color effects too!) that degrades the pic somewhat. Still it's not very noticeable on the smaller pic I posted.

When you look at this one think of a full moon above her and clear skys!
Enjoy!

Due to inquiry, for reference, I have added a tutorial to the femshep forum on how to edit makeup in Gibbed:

Gibbed Makeup Tutorial

:kissing:

Sweet, thanks! I decided to give it a try.

Image IPB

No difference? Well there are some. No eyeshadow, eyeliner "washed up" a bit (not much, because those eyes, eyelids to be specific are anatomically incorrect. How so?), pale lips I always wanted (salmon lipstick was just a excuse). I guess the lip-shine is a matter of texture, but I don't play with texmod much, so I won't bother.

But yeah, this opens much more possibilities and I wonder if those values will import to ME3. Would be great.

AAAAND I think this lady should definitely try out your tutorial, ELE!

Yikes, someone confiscate the bleach!

Oh, in regards to Marge I can see a difference esp in the lips, it looks more natural. I did the same thing--I like the light pink lip color setting but it was a bit too frosty. There's very little middle ground in the CC.

While it's not something I've needed myself, I can say that it is well written. Short yet well explained. <3

You have X-Fi sound card and hardware audio acceleration was enabled? I have that BSOD too. Annoying as hell. Always happens to me at certain spot, I have to switch to software mode to avoid that.

Kirottu Creative!

Ehm, but anyway I did notice that the blush is ME2 is much more apparent (depends on lighting, though). Maybe someone changed Shep's blush provider. It still looks okay to me, so I don't bother changing it. Who knows what happens when I import it to ME3...

Re: the blush

It was one of the many subtle ways Wilson would try to mess with Miranda.  She would try to pretty up Shepard and return a few hours later to see her looking like a clown.

@ELE

The Makeup Tutorial!

Oooo, thanks for writing all that up! I just figured it all out myself, so having that reference is nice.

BTW, you should add that the Spec and Spwr setting adjust lip "shinyness".   At least...that's what I think they do from playing around with them.

EDIT:
Spwr_Lips goes from 1-10
Spec_Lips is 0-1

The values will likely cross over to ME3. I doubt they're going to make any drastic changes to CC. Plus, they will still need those values for un-modded Sheps to import correctly.

I may play around with the makeup on a few of my Sheps a bit more. Especially the blush. I just picked the lightest color every time so they wouldn't look clownish. =-)

[EDITED to add a small jpg of the img I started with. Miranda also had, er, something in the way I had to get rid of.]

Playing around with a free image editing tool (Paint.Net).

It's not PhotoShop, but not bad for free.,

Main thing I did here was move Rhea over to the right (for some reason she wanted to be closer to Thane) and clean up the background. Since her barrier was on, I had to use some extra layers behind her to replace her blue edge glow with a couple of blurred translucent cutouts.

Not bad, but it sure makes me wish for better antialiasing. Tried to do some pixel editing to smooth some of the edges, but that got old really fast.

The best way to do antialiasing is in-engine with a driver override program like nVidia Control Panel or ATI Catalyst, 8x looks great if you've got the horsepower to run it at a decent frame rate. The biggest area of improvement is the hair meshes which look way less jaggged, particularily on the close ups.

And it made sense to remove Miranda from the shot. It wouldn't add anything.

Thanks, adneate! I do have a decent chip (NVidia Quadro FX 880M w/ 1GB -- it's a high-end laptop with an i7 CPU and 16GB of RAM), and I've tried many variations in NVidia Control Panel. So far I haven't been able to set antialiasing to override w/ any level of supersampling and get a decent frame rate. I think it's because this particular chip is really tuned more for CAD than for gaming, since it's a high-end machine, but it really targets business / engineering users. But it could be some conflict with another setting, I suppose.

Now my struggle is figuring out what I changed to get "fluttering" shadows. Anybody seen that or know what the issue might be? Some shadows, particularly on faces, flutter as if the light were going through the blades of a fan. Only happens in some multiple-source lighting situations, like the Normandy Captain's Quarters.

Off topic, I know. Sorry. But if you do happen to know, feel free to just send me a message rather than continuing here if you want. Thanks!

It's the Dynamic Shadows. Sometimes they look great and other times they flutter. I keep them turned off in ME1 and use Ambient Occlusion. If ME2 supported it, I'd love to use it there too. It's an option under your graphics settings if you want to toggle it on or off.

Ah - OK, thanks! I may just live with it, since it's not happening all the time and I do like the way it looks when it IS working.

I never really remember what options I use in the CC which is really bad if I ever have to recreate my Sheps from scratch. :-/
I don't think I used any blush on Shai, no lipstick, and a light mascara on her eyes.
For Kathryn, I don't remember if I used blush, did use smoky eyeshadow, and I think light lip gloss on those kissable lips. : p
