anyhow, curious if other people have an analogy to style of play? i see a lot of vanguards who act like bowling balls with the husks being pins.

for infiltrators I usually send squaddies out ahead of my sheps (Grunt, Jacob, Zaeed, or Garrus mainly.)
Adepts, Shep is like a center in hockey, staying in the middle of the acction while her wingers keep everyone where she can see them.
Vanguards surround targets (arc prejector is a must for the charge)
Sentinels, soldiers, and engineers fight on the fly.

nice. yeah, that's how i play adept. a lot of it was that once i figured out the differences between me1 and me2 for the adept powers - esp. singularity - i realized i needed to turn off squaddie powers and give orders to maximize effectiveness. so i started ordering everyone around all the time, and realized my view of kyrie as a character changed with the gameplay.

funny how that happens.

Hm. In ME1 I must admit to taking shameless advantage of an exploit involving indestructible cover which lets my infiltrators snipe heavy opponents to death while their area effect weapons predetonate on the aforementioned indestructible cover. In places like those buildings I tend to move in first to get some sniper shots in, then bring everyone along and sweep the place with biotics. (Kaidan and Liara on automated power use can have some interesting results.)

ME2 I tend to move my squadmates ahead while I snipe. On the Reaper IFF, I specifically bring the Cain along to one-shot the Reaper's core so I don't have to deal with all those annoying Husks.

Husks are sooooooo annoying.

EDIT: That's exactly what I did my second time round in the IFF mission Sinapus, the Cain takes a while to warm up, but it's WAY better than fighting through wave after wave of the most annoying enemy in Mass Effect. :pinched:

Oh, the Cain's warm-up time isn't really a problem. Just destroy the first wave and then use it to destroy the core. Keeps further waves from spawning and just starts the cutscene with the "I can flyyyyyyyyy" bit at the end.

oh yeah I learned that lesson the hardway. Harbinger was spamming, as usual, and I think I had Grunt and Garrus with me and Grunt used fortification so he was recharging garrus used concussive shot so she was recharging then they both died and I had no medi gel.Image IPB Plus it makes sense that no one does anything power wise without shepards say so.Image IPB

Not to change the subject, but I'd like to get opinions on something.

FemShep and the cougar syndrome of ME2.

In ME1, both Kaidan and Liara pursued femShep as a romantic interest. Kaidan was very subtle about it, but his intent was pretty obvious, while Liara just blatantly put it out there. Still, they both instigated the initial pursuit.

In ME2, to varying degrees, femShep was the instigator in all the romances. While that in and of itself is not bad, it just seems a little stale that there is only one way to play it. Yes, ME2 gives the player a bit more control, and I understand why that would be preferable to some people. Yes, ME2 gets around the "accidental" romance of DA:O, but there is a cost, to my mind, in RP w/ only one set way. My question is, what do you, especially the woman here, think of femShep's role in the ME2 romances and how would you change it, if you wanted to change it?

Before you get any further, discussions of pagecount and such are frowned upon.  Usually Ryn handles this, but she hasn't said anything yet, so here we are. That said, discussions of derp are fine.

i'm so glad you like. while i do not see my shep and joker as having ANY romantic chemistry at all, i think shep and joker have a sort of kinship all the same. it's like, "i'll keep you alive and you keep me alive, and maybe i'll make fun of you sometimes. it's all good."

Oh, and I TOTALLY approve of a derp party for a completely unspecified page in the futhre.

hah! i was complaining about this to my hubby last night. my 2 biggest beefs with ME2 - even more than horizon, which i really have come to like in a weird way - is 1) that Shepard NEVER considers/discusses/questions her death and resurrection (i mean really, wth!?) and 2) the cougar-shep thing.

again, i had this eye-opening moment when i saw a person comment that femshep/jacob was his/her favorite romance because "nothing is hotter than a hot woman coming on strong to an average guy."

i assume it was a guy who said that, and it really makes me feel like ME2 was primarily written in that regard for straight guys of a certain young and immature age. they don't want their hawt-femshep ninjamanced, so femshep has to make the move. the romances - even when they have really sweet, touching moments - have to be femshep intitated and little to NO interest in shown from the males first. again, i think it's because guys complained about their femsheps being ninjamanced. however, no one complained about maleshep being hit on.

frankly, as a girl player, it is just one more case for me of realizing that games aren't primarily written for my demographic AT ALL. if i'm lucky, if find things in them that i like. the kaidan romance - pure gold, imo. but it's the sort of romance and charachter that was meant to appeal to straight women - and you'll notice that many of the women who like it are actually a little "older" - as in, mid-twenties on up. they (we) have met a few guys and look at the kaidan-mance as "yeah, that's the kind of guy you really look for in the long run." - and that's probably why the vast majority of young, straight male players of FPS just don't like or get it. sort of the same way that i can't stand miranda's armor - it wasn't designed with me in mind.

anyhow, that's my take: the romances in ME2 were done to appeal to the greatest # of people and the demographics speak to another type of player than me. i think they firmly kept in mind the complains of male gamers that got ninjamanced, to the exclusion of female players who would have loved to see thane or garrus or jacob showing signs of falling for shepard long before she returned the sentiment.

my 2 cents.

Kyrie says, "I am not the demographic either."

Ah well, back to finishing 2nd playthrough for Riza. Made easier since I can just use the Mako's cannon to blast Saren's welcoming committee.

Maybe it's because I'm a guy but I actually like "Cougar Shep". it breaks the social norm that men have to initiate romances and that women just sit back and watch while deciding whether to say yes or no. but then again that's just me.Image IPB

Well, first of all let me say that I've had Kaidan hitting on me femSheps in most (if not all) playthroughs just because I wasn't being Cpt. Douchebag to him. So I like ME2 very much in that respect, granted that I don't really "feel" the Jacob/Garrus romances.
I would like to have more of the same-sex variety. The only Asari (who I don't really count as female) on board this time around is Samara, and even though she isn't exactly a LI I find it very touching if you try to persuade her into a relationship. (I also don't count Morinth, because that most likely gets Shepard killed.)

FYI: I'm a man.

Jessica shoots him anyway.  She does not like being pinned by the neck, it makes her freak out a little (bad memories), plus she felt a krogan would respect physical violence more than anything else.

Zara always shoots Grunt. She just likes to shoot stuff whenever possible.

I think she enjoyed the Citadel a lot more back when there were no regulations governing the discharging of weapons.

I also finalised my canon playthrough at last. The following people have been downsized from a room to a coffin.
- Jack (the game needs [Celebrate] on the dialogue wheel for this one)
- Kasumi (meh; getting incinerated is the most interesting thing she does in the game)
- Thane (it seemed a better death than a degenerative illness)
- Jacob (haha, where's your priiize now! no more mind controlling my Shepard into hussy mode)
- Tali (I felt like one tragic death would be nice)

Heh heh.  Well, I somehow doubt Krogan love-making would be... restrained...

One thing I did wonder at the end of Grunt's loyalty mission; EDI informs you that there's a breeding request for Shepard (that could be dependent on killing the Thresher Maw though).  What crazy Krogan would decide "I know, I'll get on the good foot and do the bad thing with a human woman.." ? Chances are, it could be... painful (and not in a good way)!
