I poked around the FemShep site (woo!). Just one question -- is it preferred that we wait until the site launches officially before we start registering on the forums?
You can register now if you like, but there is not much going on there right now. If anyone wants to discuss the site, it's better if we take that discussion off the BSN anyway. femshep.com forums
Currently, we have an offer to do the site, but we are still lacking someone w/ php skills for the database (pics, fanfic, videos) stuff.

I'm sure you'll find someone else before then, but I wanted to make the offer nonetheless.

BTW, I registered for the FemShep.com forum but it won't let me look at anything. Says "Access is Denied".
@Akari
That write up is wonderful! Which reminds me, I still have two profiles to write. Moira and Holly.

If you don't get any offers in the next fortnight, I can probably handle the PHP stuff (unfortunately, I have way too many deadlines right now).

Thanks. We'd like to launch fairly soon after the release of DA2, about a month from now.

On a side note, I'm going to try photoshop here at some point for Lili, Athena and one of Titra. Hopefully I can get some hires pics but I'm not counting on it...yet. Hopefully I can. If not, nevermind.

XHTML and CSS is not a problem for me so technically something like that in the mock up would be a piece of cake. However I would need the graphics.
We have the art, though we may need a couple more link images made. We are looking at eFiction and Coppermine as addons for the fanfic and photo repositories.
Yes, so we would need someone who knows how to code for these additions to the website.

They say that when you want something done
right, do it yourself, well, that’s what we are trying to do w/
femShep.com. Since BW has neglected their own creation in ads and
videos, we would like a place beyond the BSN to promote her, share pics,
fanfics, videos and modding info. We have a direction and a purpose and
art, even. What we don’t have is a coder. We need someone w/ coding
skills in CSS and databases to help put the site together. This will be
on a volunteer bases. If you are interested, please get in touch w/ Ryn or myself for further details. Thanks!
Mock up created by Sable Phoenix
Jamie and I don't have very much experience with this so I hope we are asking the right questions. All we know is we would love to have the website ready by the time DA2 is out. I believe the website is a great way to garner more support for our hero. We are in dire need of getting the forums going. The FemShep BSN fanbase grows everyday and a central place with less restrictions on what we can post would be good. There are many more things I could say about why a website is a good thing for FemShep but I'm sure you all know.
Tell your friends about this too since not every FemShep fan reads this thread regularly. Thanks! -Ryn

I'm using GIMP. It has the same abilites as PS and the best part is that it's 100% free
Granted, I'm not any good at it, but still...

I use photoshop elements for my attempts at screenshot manipulation.

Just posted a list of free and relatively inexpensive photo editing tools on femShep forum. Gimp is probably your best bet though.

In terms of looking for a programmer (hopefully you can find someone sooner rather than having to wait for me), it would help if you described exactly what sort of functionality you want available to both your website users (e.g. do they need accounts, the ability to manage uploaded files, a friends network?) and the administrators (how many functions do you want to be made available in end-user friendly interface?)...rynluna wrote...

ELE you are a freakin' superstar! Nice Caroline write up! You should do one for Rhona or has she gone the way of the dodo? Which would suck, 'cause she's my fav of your Sheps.
Rhona's still around...pretty much. She was my 'insanity' Shep and easy on the eyes, but that's about it. I have all her saves for ME3--but I'm just not that attached. Not feelin it. I lack emotional investment for her so I never fleshed out her backstory.
In fact, Caroline's looks/personality are kind of the mutant love child of Vera+Rhona...

Is there a simple tutorial for GIMP? I got it and literally can't do ANYTHING with it.Emphasis on "simple", because it seems painfully complicated.
Your best bet is to do a google search for GIMP tutorials and start there. It helps if you're looking for something specific ie.GIMP smoke tutorial, GIMP glowing text tutorial, GIMP [insert anything you can think of] tutorial.
I learned everything I know from google search.

Speaking of which, I've got another question for you all. Which mission cutscenes or general locations would you say are the best for screenshots/have the most cap-worthy material? I'm trying to nab some decent shots of my Shepards, but so far I haven't had much success. :/

Basically, what we want is for femShep.com to become a hub station for all things femShep as she has sites spread out all over w/ the BSN forum, the deviant art site and Mass Effect section of fanfic.net. We also want users to share their creations in the way of pics, vids, fanfic, modding, and promotional ideas for more exposure for our heroine. I'd like to limit the need for accounts to pics/videos/fanfic section to avoid spam more than anything else. Fanart will be featured on the deviant art site w/ a link on the main page. We want this forum to remain the central spot for discussing femShep, but more OT discussions could be brought to the femShep.com forum.
How is that?
