Nice selection there Aislinn. Eowyn is/was an almost unconcious influence. It was just so long between occasions I'd read or watched LotR, that she was forgotten.

eowyn is an awesome influence! there is both a strength and vulnerability there that is very compelling.

I'm on my second play-through and I decided to give FemShep a chance. Wow is all I have to say, the voice acting is by far superior to the male shep and it has completely changed the game for me, which is a good thing. I really liked ME2 the first time, but playing as FemShep has added a new dimension, I am no longer listening to a mono-tone Shepard. I am definitely a fan of FemShep!!!

nice. :D

& re: thane - alright, so i'm the eternal optimist here, but i would be VERY surprised if they didn't have some way/side mission to cure thane come me3. i thought that even before BW posted that pic on facebook of 90-some artists from deviant art having drawn their shepards with a "cure thane krios" banner in the back. and didn't he win some award for best-written charcter in a video-game? i think tali and garrus are BW's golden squaddies, given the way they flaunt those 2, with liara and thane a close second. they seem to love those 4 characters and are very attached to them.

anyhow, i have hope for thane. and i look forward to any such mission. i never yet made a shep that had the right chemistry with him, but i hope they have more of him so we can see him develop as a character - romanced or not.

erm, and since that was a little OT:

That's it! I've had it!

I've officially given up keeping track of this thread. :P

A little backtrack:

a few "iconic" spots though:

  • when shep first exits the shuttle on freedom's progress - wait for eyes to "glow" and avoid getting falling particles in the shot
  • when talking to miri before freedom's progress, you can get a very nice "sneer" - very good for renegade femsheps
{snip}
hope that helps.

Yeah, good tips. B) Otherwise in general , it helps if you have a general idea when cutscenes are going to crop up, so you can start hitting the screenshot key, although spontaneous shots work too, of course. But you have to be quick. Some of the best shots last literally only for a second or two.

Here's examples of Sage's first two points above, just for the heck of it. (Ana Shepard(Colonist, Ruthless, Renegade, Adept), still my current playthrough):

lol, so true. i come and go, often losing track of things. i am hoping to join in the "derp" party on a certain page that hasn't come yet but has no number that we will mention. :bandit:

and i like your screenshots.

oh, another good one is the garrus mission when he's looking for harkin in the warehouse. excellent pose and lighting to be had there:

i also like the one where she motions for sidonis to come over to her, but i can never get the timing right to make it really look like she's flipping him the bird.

If you romance Thane and do LotSB, this letter will be in his dossier.  Apparently the Shadow Broker got a hold of it from his personal drive.

Holly got this letter.  :crying:  It's something she wasn't supposed to see until after his death.

Here are a few shots of my FemShep even though I still feel a bit "strange" playing a female character. Still, Hale does a much better job as Shepard.

It's an interesting sort of thing. When I was younger, I used to imagine the main character as myself in RPGs; a self-projection of my ideal, basically. So I'd try to model the character how I wanted to look, etc. I suspect a lot of people live vicariously through game characters. On this basis, a male playing a female seems, well, strange, as you put it, because if you are the main character, what does that imply?

I find different genres attract the this group more. Try mentioning that you (as a male) play a female Spartan in Halo Reach on the forums and prepare for an influx of... well, I think 'immaturity' is the kindest word.

I stopped thinking that way as I got older, for whatever reason. I tend to think of main characters in their own right, designing them to appeal to me rather than to be me. I guess you could, in a cynical sense, say I've become more voyeuristic. Also, most of the time I feel like female characters make the narrative a little more compelling, even if it's solely because they're more the exception from the norm.

Of course, ME2 adds the VA issue into the mix, which tends to brush all these philosophical concerns aside if there's a big difference. I haven't been into the ManShep thread, but I assume that IAA award the title talks about is short for "I Ain't Acting".

You make a good point and it's interesting that you say it here as that was pretty much what I was thinking as well.  For each of my characters (in any game), I always try to create a bio which I later use to impact that specific character's motives, personality, and actions.  It is also why my FemShep is much more reckless and cold than my ManShep.  To me, you don't get much out of a RPG unless you know WHY your character acts the way he/she does.

Thanks!  She is actually based upon the character design I made up for SWTOR though I wish BioWare would have allowed for a few more options for hair design.

It is actually a modification of the normal gown that you can get but instead it has a black/reflective color to it.  The mod was created by PhoenixofThunder and can be found at the link below.  You will need to edit your Cini file to allow for all the additional casuals/colors.  Once you add it, make sure you go back and run the ME2ini fixer or your game won't load.  There are instructions in his download if you don't know how to do that.  Also, if you need help, please feel free to ask me or anyone on the moders forums.

FWIW, while I know that historically RPGs descend from the ...assuming control of this form... kinds of games where "heavy" role identification was in many ways the goal, something about the ME series has enabled me to disconnect from that notion and enjoy the experience more like I would enjoy a really good book or movie. Except oh so much better, because I can explore all the impacts of a tweak here or an explosion there, or getting just really sick of Aria T'Loak today, or deciding "screw the Heretics" on another.

Most of the time I think of Shepard as a protagonist in a really cool story that somehow never gets old, and the fact that I control almost everything she does is more about the thrill of going along for the ride with the Story than about me "being" the character. There are some LI moment, yes, when I drop out of warp and think "huh. Isn't THAT interesting." But now I see that as a really amazing opportunity to gain perspective that can be quite enlightening. I see it like this way: I'm the observer and not the character. Similar to reading a book.

This. so this. i started kyrie as an just an avatar, as me, - but she sure didn't stay that way. somewhere along the umpteen playthroughs, she became her own character - well, it was probably as soon as hale opened her mouth and said a badass line. now i see things in her that i "gave" her from myself, but there is a lot more of other people in her - or just of herself.

huh, i think i may have to do that inspiration meme after all. :)

@ aislinn re: thane's letter.

that is lovely. at first i really rolled my eyes at the "poetic assassin," thing, but thane pulls it off. it's the voice, really. and the glimpse of sculpted green chest. (ha!)

why oh WHY could they not have had something on the VS? while this makes me sorta happy that the SB wasn't watching in on our dear kaidan/ashley, on the other hand, it really, really drives me nuts. seriously! bailey got a dossier and a frickin' spycam vid. is there nothing for kashley? like, a bazillion false starts to the email he/she sent?

*sigh*

actually, i think what annoyed me more was the slip-up that referred to shepard as a "he" in the SB's files. it was a sentence that could easily have been restructured to be gender-neutral, too. ah well.

In Finnish language we don't had "he" or "she", it's always "hän" regardless of gender. ;) So something like that wouldn't be possible.

Oh, and if you ever would use the word "hän" when you are talking about car or space ship for example, people would think that you would be nuts.

It took a while to get used to English. It has absolutely nothing in common with Finnish. But anyway...

English is just a pain. Not because of fundamental issues with its structure, but just the variety of paradoxes, phonetic anomalies, etc.

I mean, what other language lets you say something like "there's no time like the present to present the present"?

English IS really weird.  But, having learned it since birth, I don't notice its inherent oddities.  Only once you learn another language to you realize just how unstructured it is.  But!

@Chickenpotpie:  You are entitled to that opinion.  However, this is not the place to blatantly state things like that.  It gives the impression you're trolling.  And you wouldn't want that, would you?

I think my favourite illustration is the fact that your house can burn up as it burns down.

Also, that armour colour combination you've got going on is pretty cool.

There is no canon Shepard in the sense of gender, personality, etc.

Within my own personal mindset, the character of Commander Shepard is a woman.

Therefore, Sheploo can go suck a lemon.
