OK. DA Origins FAIL.

The solution?

Release DA 2 and everybody will forget the first...

After patch 1.04 I played from the end of the deep roads to the end of the game. 1 crash in combat. Slowdowns after combat. System specs are on page 1 of the stability and performance thread in pc tech forum. For crashes and performance, about the same as 1.03.

One other effect noted: one cutscene had NPC audio missing (Crime wave, Loghains crown) and another had audio and companion missing (Morrigan and Zevrain rescue in Rescue the queen, in waiting room Morrigan missing) This is new, never seen pre 1.04

OK. Seriously?

This patch is worse than the one before. Please help me remove it from my STEAM game. The game keeps crashing every 30 minutes instead of every 2 hours or so. Wow. And I thought it was bad before :( I'll add camp won't boot from Denerim, and I have to skip to Soldier's Peak before I head there for it to load at all. Oh, and I forgot... I have to wait 2 minutes before loading any save before my DLC is even acknowledged.... bad... really bad.

It's not the game, it's your system.

Clean up your PC, reinstall the game and try again.  The patch and game via Steam work great.

System's squeaky clean, as it's barely 2 months old. And don't tell me it's my computer either:
Asus G73JH-A1, 8 GB RAM, 1 TB hard drive
Intel core i7 Q720 @ 1.6 GHz
ATI Mobility Radeon HD 5870, 1 GB
Catalyst 10.6 driver (latest version)
Windows Experience Index components are all above 7 out of 7.9, except for disk transfer rate, which is 5.9/7.9, which is considered a top rating

I'd say that's unacceptable performance on such a system. And, yes, I did try all the memory leak tips, restricting affinity to the last 4 cores, etc.

This was not a cry for help. Merely a statement of dissatisfaction.

Cheers, and thanks anyway ;)

I didn't mean that to sound harsh, but techncially, yes it is your system.  If it is running fine on most people's systems, there is obviously something on yours (overheating, driver related, hardware related, OS or software corruption, etc.) causing it to crash.

It has nothing to do with the fact that your PC is "new" or not.  In fact, most big brand, store bought machines have so much junk preloaded on them, it's amazing that anything would work out of the box.

All I am suggesting is to look a little closer at it and do some troubleshooting!  B)  It's part of the fun of PC gaming!  LOL!

Compelling, rich and utterly unhelpful to the discussions at hand.  Thank you.

Methinks he's like one of those fake WoW rage-quitters who go "they changed it now it sucks and I quit", but keep on playing to do the same thing at a later date. Of course, I could be wrong.

Lovely patch.

Played through lelianas song and darkspawn chronicles today a few times each to get all achivement, and I had only one crash/bug in the begining and it was because I had another game on in the background and took up too much ram.

So, thanks so much for the patch.

I don't see the old 1.03 patch any more. If I update and Sandal cries, how would I go about reverting to 1.03? Do I need to backup the entire game restore if this is fubar?

This sucks. PC users get the patch but PS3 and 360 users have to wait who knows how long for the patch that's just bogus. They should have done a multi-platform release. Seriously I am so upset there are no words to describe how upset I am.

Pc patches don't have to go through certification. Console patches do. So they take longer to realease, but the product is actually finished already. So I don't see any benefits for console owner if they hold the patch for PC.

Can't wait another week or so?  It's only a game!

Except that it's not store bought.

I bought all components new and put them in there myself and installed only what I already had.

And everything was perfectly fine until this patch.

Can anyone confirm whether or
not Sigrun's side quest in the city is fixed? For mine, the woman she
is supposed to bump into won't appear since I already did the "Law &
Order" side quest. Does 1.04 fix that?

From
everything I've seen (I've not tested this yet specifically) I don't
think that Sigrun's companion quest is going to trigger differently in
1.04.  In fact, the idea that "Sigrun's Roguish Past" can't be resolved
if you follow the Law and Order path actually makes some sense....so
this may have been Operating As Designed from the beginning.

Really??
First time I am hearing this.  It is listed as a bug, still, over at
the wiki site
(http://dragonage.wik...'s_Roguish_Past).  Can you
explain, and does anyone else have any input here?

I've edited plenty of Wikia pages, and the fact that something is listed as a bug (by one player) does not mean that BW considers it a bug.  It's been reported several times as a bug, but BW has never acknowledged it...and in my mind that means it might actually be working as intended.  Due to all the approval/quest issues in Awakening, I always go and get each of the companions and take them to the Joining as early as possible--so I've never tested some of the alternatives--and I *do* think personally that it's a bug.
The problem is that it's comparatively a low-severity bug--so I wouldn't expect a fix soon.

Well, there was mention of companion quests spawning issues being resolved in this patch.  Also, why do you think it is working as intended?  Because she is hiding her roguish past?  That doesnt' make sense for me being that I am a rogue as well...just seems kind of odd.

WHY ARE NONE OF YOU EVER HAPPY?

You whine and complain for months about how things don't work, a patch is released to fix the things that didn't work and you go right on whining and complaining. It's like some kind of online kindergarten.

wah wah wah wah wah.

Jesus. And the orphans.

You can't make everyone happy but, 9+ months of sitting and waiting for the game to work is unacceptable. Oh BTW 1.04 didnt fix everything.

Perhaps you should read everyone's post before generalising stuff like this.

Since I only bought the game not too long ago I never patched prior to this. When I heard that there was a patch that fixed the dwarven noble DLC-bug, I assumed everything could only get better. And since I was completely happy until that point with 2 runs without any issues whatsoever I had no incentive to assume that this patch could possibly lead to crashes at random points in the game.

Now, as far as I have been able to tell it mostly sits with users with Win 7 64-bit.
I hope we get some more information soon as in how to fix this, because even though I said I'd be happy to play 'vanilla' again as prior to today, I'm still a person who wants to have the latest patches as much aspossible.

Hello all,

The PC version of patch 1.04 has been released and is available for download at: http://social.biowar...page/da-patches

Xbox 360 and PS3 patches are currently in certification and we will announce a release date once they have passed.

Thanks for playing Dragon Age. We hope this patch offers an improved gameplay experience for you!

Note on Installing Awakening to a version  of DA:O already patched to 1.04 [PC only]

If you install the 1.04 patch prior to installing Awakening, you must run the 1.04 patch installer again after the Awakening install is complete.

There are Awakening specific resources and other assets that will not be patched in properly unless the 1.04 installer detects that Awakening is present and as such will not install those additional resources.  In addition, the
pre-1.04 installer that comes with Awakening may revert some 1.04 files back - this would result in a game that is apparently missing many of the fixes included with 1.04, while the game config tool still reports it as the 1.04 version.

In short, if you plan to re-install DAO and Awakening at some point in the future, we recommend installing DAO, then Awakening, then latest patch.  If you plan to add Awakening to your DAO install, we recommend installing
Awakening, then always re-apply the latest patch.

Now I just downloaded the patch but have yet to install it due to the fact that I've got some questions for which the post don't answer and hoping you or someone else would be able to answer it for me.

1. Does this now mean that Begen's Honor helm and the Star Fang Long Sword will import to awakening?

2. In DAO will I finally be able to complete and get Shale? Haven't been able to yet and I've done everything short of a full re install of the game. Only reason I've not tried to re-install is due to the fact that I was worried about losing my special in game items like Bergen's Honor, The Shield as well as for Return to Ostegar and Soldiers peak Modules.

3 what in the world is steam version I read about here?

Thanks for any and all replies in advance. As always the are appreciated.

Just installed this patch. I'm in the fade and the game keeps crashing before installed the patch because of memory errors. I'm going to try to actually see if this works. Wish the toon luck. I'll keep you all posted to see if my game keeps crashing during the combat. I'm going to pray this doesn't crash anymore. I would like to enjoy my game and all the money I spent on it. My computer is more than capable of handling this game. Though i do needs a new sound card.

Nope the problem has not been solved. It just crashed after installing on the game. I just don't think DA:O can handle windows vista! What the heck is wrong with this game. My computer can handle it.

Well, after playing Awakening for a while with the new patch everything appeared to work alright; the imported rogue trap-check is working well, and I managed to get through the Wending Wood level without crashes - bad slowdowns in places, but otherwise fine. Although, to be fair I hadn't encountered many 1.03 bugs apart from the increased crash problem and the broken stealing, so beyond that I can't judge. So, thanks BioWare for fixing those issues, but I hope those still experiencing difficulties can get solutions.

After a crash windows vista tells you it shuts down a program. Is there a way I can go in and check my files for the problem that occured.  This way I can get the code and post it so bioware can get some information on why DA:O isn't working well on vista.

I know this sounds really annoying but it probably is your system - some misconfiguration, driver problem, etc - the game doesn't crash on every single Vista machine, and it certainly works fine on most.

Ok, I found the error codes, but I only trust this in the hands of bioware employees. Damn I wish I could code. Stupid monkeys!
