Heard this before. I think the other workaround would be to activate that Updater-Service when playing. Can't it be launched with the Game automatically somehow? I dunno, maybe through linking the DAOrigins.exe with launching the service à la "+ launch DAUpdaterSvc". One can of course also let it always run, but I personally don't like stuff running in the Background I don't need at that moment.hyperion02 wrote...

i can't install the 1.04 patch. it says
'an error occured applying the 1.04 update to your version of Dragon Age: Origins [36]'
can anyone tell me the solutions? thx.
1. Back up any saves/MODs you wish to keep to another folder [optional].
2. Uninstall your game.
3. Delete the directory that the game was installed to as well as the BioWare folder in your My Documents folder.
4. Reinstall Origins.
5. Reinstall Awakening if you have it (if not, skip this step)
6. Patch with the latest patch.
7. Restore any saves/MODs that you backed up before uninstalling.
NOTE TO ADMINS: Really need to fix your numbered bullets on these forums. Not to mention the duplication bug with backslashes.
It's supposed to launch automatically when you start the game, but doesn't always work that way. You can start it manually through the Services shortcut in your Administrative Tools, however. It can also be ended here should you want to play another game & it's sapping your resources.rage-monk wrote...

I think they planing to release a minor patch, to make a step-by-step to be very close to the final patch. (1.02+1.03+1.04+ ... =the big patch)

What they should do now is to release a hot fix for the quest bugs. Not a stupid cumulative patch that is limited by size. i have no clue as to why they have to absoletely push out a cumulative patch, at least for pc. They could just as well release a hot fix which would probably be small in size and fix most of the quest script bugs.... If qwinn's patch which is relatively small in size can fix tons of quest bugs then they can do it too...
now that should be the next step they undertake....will it happen?

Has 1.04 fixed that? I would like to recruit justice first to get rid of oghren asap.
Also the game is semi-linear, meaning you can just choose the order of the main quests. If you are forced to follow a particolar order for the game to work, it become completely linear!

I mentioned this a few pages back, but my question seemed to go unnoticed.
Has anyone else noticed combat issues since installing the patch? Like criticals not actually damaging the target, missing melee and ranged attacks much more often, and enemies generally seeming to evade everything at random? Is there anything I can do to fix it?
I have noticed something similar: melee attacks seems to miss more often, and spells like paralyze and manaclash are resisted more often by yellow and orange enemies. In my opinion this is very good, the game was too easy before and if they shadow-implemented a really slight difficulty fix that would be good considering the many uber items they have released with dlc.
I also hope in another patch that hads a nightmare+ difficulty lvl similar to the mod already awayable.

It always struck me as odd how the key element to using all the DLC can fcuk things up so much that the Game needs to be re-installed before you can download and use the stuff.
Especially since EA seems to regard DLC as the user-friendly DRM alternative.

Remember when Herren and/or Wade run into the little alley by the Chantry and there's supposed to be a Circle Mage there holding up a barrier? No mage. Just an invulnerbale Wade and Herren.
But on the plus side, any missing Achievements from said DLC and Leliana's Song that vanished on me have reappeared. Nice one. Also, until I patched to 1.04, there was a small bug with the Ogre related Achievment during RtO. I got it, and it was showing up, but listed as "Secret". 1.04 fixed that too.
Also, it's allowed me to bump my graphics up again. Was playing on High Graphics, 2X AA and High Textures. That's what was cauing my 1.03 CtDs. Bumped up again during 1.04 and no crashing yet. Good work!
How about a small consideration for your faithful, though? Contact the guy who's fixed the BlackBlade Armour and ask whether or not you can include that in the next patch? Also, (and I apologise in advance for the caps) WILL YOU JUST ****ING PUT THE ANCIENT ELVEN BOOTS WHERE THEY'RE SUPPOSED TO BE?! .... Yes I know I can put them back with a mod, but when BioWare does this themselves, I'll know they listen. It's good that they got around to fixing a good amount of the broken stuff with 1.03. Now all I want are:
Find Vitals fixed
It seems Mana Clash is still bugged
Ancient Elven Boots replaced
Is the bug with Daggers not gaining from Dexterity still there? I'm playing a Mage right now, so I wouldn't know. I must have gotten lucky as my DLC did not vanish or unauthorise themselves after install.
@Dragonsouce: Be grateful. It means when it does freeze/crash, you can switch over to something else.
P.S: Regardless of how my team feels about my character, they're still pushing me out of the way. IE, when I bring a Warrior and a Combat rogue, they invariably push me out of the way to get at the enemy. Also, Why the hell is it that sometimes when all I need is to land one more hit, the enemy goes after someone else, leaving me to swish harmlessly at the air while the teammate gets the kill? Either that or I continually miss. I would rather that when it was my character that generated the Threat to the enemy, the enemy does not lose threat until either it or I is/am dead.

Devs, Silverite Mine item bug and Amaranthine Law and Order quest are still bugged. Why weren't they fixed, and when can we expect them fixed?
Appreciate any answers, thanks.
I'd noted earlier in this thread that the patch release notes only talked about fixing a Silverite Mine bug from picking the lock to the external door, and didn't discuss the case where the bug triggered when entering normally with Velanna in the party. And I've had it happen with a CEF DW-warrior, so it's not an AW-only bug by any means. So, don't expect that to be fixed until a next patch, which hasn't been promised.
When you say Law and Order is still bugged, can you be more specific? The patch notes didn't state that they'd planned to fix *either* of the related issues--so yes, you can still end up with neither side willing to talk to you (and unable to complete either side of the quest) and you can still make it impossible to get Sigrun's companion quest. The fact that neither of those is fixed should not be a surprise.
So, it appears that the actions if anyone gets this are:Nameless Two wrote...

- If you're using Steam, make sure you checked the boxes so that 1.04 patch gets applied to Awakening.
- If not using Steam, consider trying to re-apply the 1.04 patch
- If neither of those works, back up your character save files and re-install (or try something else if you've got other ideas.)
I had similar issues with 1.02a and 1.03 - the problem is almost certainly related to some particular file on your system that doesn't have the state/contents that the binary patcher expects. The harder fix is to find out what file, find that file in one of the archives on your original DVD, copy it over, and re-run the patch. The much simpler fix is to back up your character save files and re-install with no patches, then add the 1.04 patch.alan27 wrote...

When you say Anders' quest is bugged, you mean you can't get into the warehouse? I've never run into this problem, but I've seen it reported. Do you have any mods installed, or just regular BW DLC plus Awakening? What OS and video card are you running? (You may want to take the issue to the PC tech support forum--this seems to be relatively uncommon, and it's not listed on the Wikia page, but maybe someone else has a fix.)Red Crow wrote...
Ugh, Anders' personal quest is STILL
bugged. And yes, I did start a new game.
I'd love to see them do this...but as long as the DLC is making money for them the only ways they can prevent creation of an ersatz Awakening mod are 1. Don't include Awakening in the toolset 2. Change the requirement, so that only folks who've registered both can download the toolset 3. Produce a new updated toolset that supports Awakening, but don't allow download unless both are registered. NONE of those options are great, and 1 requires the least action/effort/resources, so that's what's happened so far.Red Crow wrote...
Seriously, Bioware, if
you're not going to fix the numerous quest/scripting bugs, then at least
release the damn script sources, so that we can fix them ourselves.
Not going to happen. Consider BW's patch scheme as the MS "Service Pack" or Solaris "Patch Cluster". They only release a bunch of patches together that have been tested together, because each run through the regression tests/QA process costs money. (Of course, I've noted previously that I can't imagine what the QA process that produced a 1.03 with so many new broken items...but that's a different issue.)BrunoB1971 wrote...
All the bugs and quest related bugs
have been talked about and described in detail. This patch is to fix
what 1.03 broke, basically. What they should do now is to release
a hot fix for the quest bugs. Not a stupid cumulative patch that is
limited by size.
The best we can hope for in the short term is a 1.04a that at least includes the right version of script.ldf (so that the modders don't get hosed) and maybe a few other tweaks if possible.
I'd hope that we'll see a 1.05, but I wouldn't count on it--most of the code/script/dev resources are almost certainly focused on DA2 and SW:TOR MMORPG.
Side note: there is a *huge* list of bugs that Uomoz1987 posted to the last page of the comments on Qwinn's fixpack, and if all of those are still around maybe BW will feel like fixing some of them.

for me, i dont notice much difference from version 1.02a.
i had occasional slowdowns there, and just a few ctd's. nothing realy gamebreaking.
with awakenings and 1.04 now installed, it seems to have a bit less slowdown, and i had 1 ctd sofar with the dragon fight in the black marsh when i paused the game. reloaded it and it went ok.
experienced a major slowdown after the dragon fight in the dragon bone wastes.
the ctd and major slowdown happened after 3 to 4 hours of continues gameplay.
i have around 20 hours of playtime total after the 1.04 install.
i havent tried anything in dragenage origins yet after the 1.04 install, but i expect
it to run the same as awakenings.
i would like to make one remark concerning driver updates some people mention as possible fixes for the game not running.
for myself i use the 'if it aint broken, dont fix it' method.
i dont have the latest mobo drivers and i dont have the latest video driver either.
all my games run fine (guildwars, age of conan, borderlands)
so dragon age should ( and luckely does) run fine as well.
i must say( and dont get me wrong, i dont ,mean to say all people with problems do) i dont install any rubbish programs on my pc, i dont use hacks or whatnots, dont download illegal or shady stuff, and i use a what i think is a solid anti virus solution (nod32), and i only use my pc for gaming exclusively.
my system specs:
intel core i7 975 running at 4 ghz,
asus rampage II extreme mobo with onboard sound,
6 gig kingston hyperx ddr3 tripple channel memory at 1600 mhz (its aproved for 1800mhz),
gforce 295 at standard speed
coolermaster case with more then enough cooling
1200watts enermax psu
win 7 enterprise 64 bit

Yes.. this is an already known problem
They probably planned that players would go to the Black Marsh at the end, therefore since Justice possesses the body of a man which is already a grey warden they thought it wasn't necessary made another joint at that point of the game.. but they didn't figure that players could also choose a different order for the main quest..

Does this just relate to Velanna's quest? Do you still need to avoid finishing Law & Order prior to doing Sigrun's quest? I'm happy that the +100 approval bug is repaired, and happy to be able to get Velanna's quest, just want to make sure I don't lock myself out of Sigrun's quest if it's still bugged.

Yeah.. I can image that
I didn't have that problem because I was a s&s warrior, and besides that I respeced immediately Oghren because I was tired to see him die everytime 'cause he was too slow with that damn 2h axe, and changed him in a s & s warrior too...
