PC Patch 1.04 Released!

Posté 24 juillet 2010 - 04:29
But still:
Game breaking bugs that are not fixed
1: silverite mine: all pc equipment lost forever
2: i recruited justice before velanna: velanna cannot do the joining and you can't use her a party member
3: made law and justice quest before recruiting sigrun: sigrun personal quest did not trigger
4: a lot of items don't drop (i.e. blackblade set). bioware says it's not possible to fix those items drop, but many player modder were able to do that... shame!
Addressed and fixed bugs
1: companion approval bug in awakening is fixed
2: everyone says that velanna personal quest is fixed, i couldn't see that becouse all velanna character is stuck in my game due to another bug
3: stealing is fixed
Uncertain fix
dagger damage is now calculated correctly using dexterity? i did not notice any difference
Final response: FAILURE, awakening is still unplayable and many months are passed since release.

You know what BioWare? After all the bad news about Dragon Age 2, The Old Republic and Mass Effect 2 being a let-down, I really think I'm done with your games. Most developers don't get it all right the first time, we understand. Something like five patches, later, though, and Dragon Age still has significant issues that make the game far less enjoyable than it should be - it's still at the point where I can't successfully play through Awakening without missing out on a good deal of content that simply doesn't work, crashes the game, etc. This is unacceptable from a developer that considers itself world-class, and frankly, you've had more than a year to clean up your act already. I firmly refuse to purchase all future BioWare games or add-ons. There are other developers who deserve my money far more.
That's all opinion, and not opinions held by the majority of gamers, either. I like ME2 and love DAO...have no problems with Awakenings and finished three playthroughs. I am also looking forward to DA2.
Shouldn't this be in a rants forum or something?
Sigrun's quest worked for me in this playthrough, by the way.

Nevertheless I decided to check on the state of the patch destined to fix all of the issues in a game I had previously enjoyed. My game time is limited and I would rather spend that time playing than fiddling with something that may or may not work.
Sure enough, after loading 1.4 my previously purchased DLC was showing as unauthorized. After a number of restarts and forum browsing I fixed the issue, and once I got into the game was eager to get playing. A few minutes later I CTD after zoning.
Thanks but no thanks. I don't know if this is incompetence on the part of developers, if this is lack of concern on the part of the publisher, or what other business nonsense is involved. Frankly I don't care anymore, if there were sufficient incentive to FIX the issues with this game it would be fixed as the resources are there. This level of failure for such a highly rated game is unacceptable. Selling DLC for a broken game is beyond unacceptable.
I would like my money and my time back please.

a) FIXED my near-constant CtD problem. Over 24 hours of play (longest stretch ~8) had one freeze-up, one CtD.
c) REDUCED load times and lagging (some/most memory leaks plugged?)
Can't tell if the Dex for Daggers issue has been addressed. Not seeing a difference between 1.03 and 1.04, but maybe I'm not testing for that properly.
Obviously can't say anything at all about DA:A fixes yet, (I'll get there eventually!) and haven't looked specifically at the plot flag/dialogue triggers yet. That'll be next.
But the most interesting things I've come across to this point is the following...
Older files placed into 1.04 by accident, or on purpose?
In addition to Sunjammer's post on the first page of this thread about the copy of "script.ldf" that came with 1.04 being, effectively, a roll-back to the 1.02 version, below are the highlights of my complete comparison between the files listings of 1.04 and 1.03.
Most curious (to me) was finding two more files with date stamps EARLIER than the release of 1.03: "globalvfx.rim", and global.rim", both located in the [Program Files (x86)/Dragon Age/packages/core/data] folder. Since we're still waiting to hear from anyone at BioWare about the "script.ldf" reversion, I thought I might as well bring these to their (and our) attention as well...

The patch is already done; it's just a question of when PS3 is going to release it for download. This would really be a question for Sony since they haven't released it yet.Mag_Wolf3 wrote...

One small bug I noticed was that the Load button was that it loaded the last legit save (not an auto-save or quick-save), although this only happened once. Not sure what caused the bug, but I'll post again if I can find out what caused it.
For the most part, a great patch. I'll find out later on if it's working properly with the different storylines. If needed, my specs can be found here (bottom of the page).

If this works, you're a lifesaver. But can you please explain step by step for someone that doesn't know how to use the toolset exactly what you mean by " just compile in the toolset and run through the console"?

I have a small request. Can we have an option to set where subtitles appear? I generally prefer reading subtitles at the botton of the screen while in current implementation they're on the top.
An option to set this would be highly appreciated.
Thanks.
Hi there,
It's off-topic, but there's a mod for that on Dragon Age Nexus. I haven't tried it myself, but it might be worth a try for you.
Here's a link:

1. Install the DA Toolset. (This may be non-trivial for you, and if so you'll likely need to wait for some good modding soul to package up this script.)dan107 wrote...

2. Go into the toolset, and select File-->New...Script.
3. Give your new script a "resource name" of something logical, like "sigrunfix". The new file will actually be called sigrunfix.nss.
4. Copy and paste the text from WRFan's entry into the new script.
5. Click on "Compile script" (button on the top toolbar). You may be asked whether this is single player or whatnot, and single player *should* work.
6. Fire up DA:A with the developer console enabled, and type "runscript sigrunfix" into the console and see if that works for you. (I've not yet had a chance to test this and won't for several days--my Awakening DVD ended up somewhere while awaiting 1.04.)
7. Much more data on the toolset, but even with all the helpful suggestions a steep learning curve, at
http://social.biowar...olset/index.php
Good luck. And as a side note, I was one of those who had thought this might be intentional but I now 100% agree not only that it's a bug, but also that WRFan's theory of why the trigger gets disabled (to keep this encounter from triggering while running around the city during Law and Order) is correct. And it definitely should have been re-enabled after that part of that quest. Good job by WRFan, and it's hard to believe that BW didn't sort this out and make this very simple fix part of 1.04.

In this case, I think Sony taking their time is a good thing; look at what happened to the Xbox 360 Slim users because Microsoft hurried the process along.

Eh it might be that.. Or it might be that they really don't see DA:O and so forth as important by means of PS3. Maybe I should switch to PC, I don't know. Feeling like you mean something to them would be nice once in a while.

Can you be more specific? There's an immersion-breaking workaround (take Velanna to the Joining before entering the mines, which means that at the end of the mines she'll talk about wanting to become a Warden) that I agree is pretty poor as the "best answer". But what do you mean "can't use her (as) a party member"?Ygolnac wrote...

EDIT: I agree that your 1, 3, and 4 above are all significant bugs that are still present in DA:A+1.04, but I'd only categorize #1 as "gamebreaking" since it's on one of the main quest paths and the only fix is to revert to a previous save.

Another thought; if you have any mods installed, maybe disable them and try importing? Idk if that would do anything, but it's worth a try.
