I thought I would post my observations/experience with this patch and my Awakening playthrough. I would like to warn you that some spoilers are contained here, though I have tried to limit these as much as I can while still providing as much detail as I can about the situation of the issues encountered.

I do apologize if all of this has been stated before. I simply wish to share my observations after patch 1.04 has been applied to get a sense of what still needs to be addressed (and I hope I am not the only one experiencing these things).

Specifics:
Am playing on a PC, have both physical disc versions of Origins and Awakening. Had Origins patched to 1.02a, then installed Awakening, which installed 1.03, then installed patch 1.04. With this, my first playthrough ever of Awakening, I did NOT use any mods, although I did run the game with the enabledeveloperconsole function.

Observations

After the Assault of Vigil’s Keep has been concluded, when in the Throne Room for the first time and after the initial Joining Ritual, I spoke to each of Mistress Woolsey, Varel and Captain Garevel and got the three main quests. After Nathaniel’s Joining the three main quests in my journal seemed to have reset and when I spoke with the three main quest taskgivers, it was like I never spoken to them before. Introductions began anew and new journal entries were received for the main quests. Although when speaking to Varel, instead of getting the conversation about the main quest, instead I got the Fealty quest.

Solution: revert to a previous save before my first conversation with the three main taskgivers, obtained Nathaniel, completed the Fealty quest… and only spoke to the three main taskgivers once I was interested in setting upon a main quest. Note for future playthroughs; recruit Nathaniel first, then obtain the main quests.

Oghren the Family Man. I encountered a bug with this quest, where it remained unresolved in my journal al throughout Awakening. Obtained the quest, then tried to increase Oghren’s approval as much as possible (thinking that was the cause) but despite getting his approval to 69 or so, was unable to resolve it.

Solution: Urshakk sets out the specific parameters to follow in order to get this quest resolved in this thread: http://social.biowar...30563/1#2030642

I haven’t tried these steps yet (and of course my action were almost all the opposite of what is suggested and hence why I encountered this bug I’d imagine) but am looking forward to my next playthrough to test it out.

Silverite Mines – gear not returned. While in Wending Wood, I completed all the quests in the  area and followed the story, not once even glancing or approaching the Mines entrance. After Velana joined my party, I then proceeded to the Mines. My Warden ended up wearing her small clothes in the cell, while the other companions were sporting Clothing – and all of my inventory, aside from the equipped gear of my companions and myself, was still in my possession. I found my companions’ gear on the three Experimental Subjects, however the fourth Subject (supposedly the one who was wearing my gear) didn’t have said gear. And the chest next to Armaas was empty. Here is exactly what I was wearing prior to entering the Mines: Battledress of the Provocateur, Wolf Threads, Wade’s Superior Dragonskin Gloves, Dumat’s Spine, Twinblade, Precision-Geared Recurve, Panacea, Illumination, Corin’s Proposal and Lifegiver. No, no helm.

Solution: Just prior to entering the Mines, stripped my entire gear, and stashed everything in my inventory. When I awoke in the cell, my Warden was also wearing Clothing, just like the rest of my party, and my inventory was completely empty. Of course, it’s somewhat… disconcerting entering these forlorn mines full of darkspawn wearing nothing but my small clothes and a smile… not to mention the encounter with someone rather creepy, with my Warden butt-naked… ewwwwww!

Blackblade Armor Set. I was able to obtain the tunic and helm in the Mines, however, never encountered the boots and gloves.

Solution: I installed Schwinni’s Awakening Blackblade Armor Dragon Drop Fix, my very first (and so far, the only) mod. I actually installed the optional Blackblade Drop Fix Dragon Thralls, and not the main one.  Getting the boots and gloves to drop from the dragon thralls at the end of the Mines makes more sense to me, rather than waiting to almost the very end of the game to obtain them. After all, my shoes need to match the rest of my outfit! (and I have no doubt Leliana would agree with me completely *wink*). This mod works as described and I haven’t encountered any problems with it whatsoever. http://dragonagenexu...ile.php?id=1112

Sigrun’s Joining. The Last of the Legion was the last main quest I completed and I found that, despite Sigrun’s Joining appearing in my journal, I was unable to get this event to trigger, for when I went to speak with Varel, the events of the Siege of Vigil’s Keep played out.

Solution: Need to have The Last of the Legion as the very first main quest completed, i.e. before completing the Blackmarsh main quest. Supposedly, that will allow for Sigrun’s Joining to play out. A bit annoying in a game where supposedly you can complete the main quests in any order… and I really wish to recruit Justice as soon as possible, as he is a wonderful tank (and I got a soft spot for zombies, what can I say), but if that’s what has to be done, then that’s what has to be done. Mind you, I haven’t tested this YET, but I believe that this is the consensus on the workaround.

Sigrun’s Roguish Past. I was unable to trigger this event, having done the City of Amaranthine quests first, then Blackmarsh, then Wending Wood and Knotwood Hills last. Having completed the Law and Order quest in City of Amaranthine, I was unable to bump into Mischa, despite dragging Sigrun all over Amaranthine a number of times.

Solution: Complete the main quest in Knotwood Hills first (and, hence, complete Sigrun’s Joining), then visit Amaranthine and complete Sigrun’s Roguish Past and only then let loose with the Smuggler’s Run/Law and Order quests and any other quests in Amaranthine… probably will do Blackmarsh right after Sigrun’s quests are squared away and then continue with my mission.

One question I have though; if I complete the Wending Wood/Silverite Mines quest arc as my very last main quest, will Velana’s Joining be skipped over just as Sigrun’s had been or will it, in fact, trigger properly and only after Velana’s Joining is complete, will the Siege of Vigil’s Keep play out?

Does this summarize generally where things stand now after patch 1.04? Have I missed any observations that appear to be common for others? I haven’t mentioned the DLC slow authorization, as it has been addressed numerously in this thread. Most of the times, despite my settings being set to always connect with my profile, I have to launch Dragon Age twice before my DLCs are authorized, but that has always been the case for me. Yes, somewhat annoying, but I can certainly live with that.

Thank you guys.

EDIT: GHA, sorry, formatting was all messed up, had to correct it.

Origins LI Letters - Where are they? (SPOILERS)

Answer - they are in your journal codex, under "Notes" as soon as you start the game. My Zevran letter is Codex No. 823, bottom of the section. I did not romance Liliana, so have no clue there, but I'm sure it's similar.

Just FYI, the character I imported did not complete Origins all the way to the Landsmeet and I was romancing both Alistair and Zevran with Polygamy loaded. Alistair showed up as King and acted as if we had married, and I got my Zevran letter. Just in case anyone is interested in how that plays out with the patch.

Here's what I would suggest:
1.  Backup any screenshots, MODs & saves you wish to save.  [optional]
2.  Uninstall the game.
3.  Delete the folder that the game was installed into.
4.  Delete the BioWare folder in your My Documents folder.
5.  Delete the /Documents and Settings/All Users/Application Data/BioWare folder.
6.  Reinstall Origins.
7.  Reinstall Awakenings if you have it.
8.  Repatch.
9.  Reallow daorigins.exe, DAOriginsLauncher-MCE, daupdater.exe & daupdatersvc.service.exe through your firewall.
10.  Start the game & change the priority of daorigins.exe to Low in your Task Manager (Ctrl+Alt+Del).
11.  Log into your account in game.
12.  Wait for your account information to update on the Downloadable Content screen.
13.  Download one DLC at a time, waiting for it to finish installing before starting another one.  Repeat as many times as needed.
Make sure to change the priority back to Normal before playing.

If you are not able to download with these steps, then I'm tempted to believe there's something else blocking communications than your software firewall; possibly a hardware firewall.  Check your router to see if a hardware firewall is enabled.  You wouldn't be on a college dorm, would you?  College dorms are known to block ports used for gaming & they may have blocked the ports needed to download your DLC.[/quote]

well I did all that and I am currently trying to install my DLC the required game field still shows up red but ill sit here a while see if any progress is made and if not Ill post and PS no not in a dorm at home on laptop

Mana Clash just crashed my game... however I think it was a combination of the spell and an obvious memory leak. The game engine and the graphics are clunky after several hours, sometimes after an hour of play (depending on memory leaks). I sincerely hope they aren't using this pig of engine with the retro graphics quality for DA2.

Aye, I also experienced laggy/choppy gameplay after several hours of continuous gameplay on a number of occassions.  Had to exit my game and relaunch it to get rid of that, and then I could enjoy the easy game flow, as normal. A bit annoying, true.

Also, in my whole Awakening playthough (completing almost all of the sidequests, however not spending too much time on runecrafting, for I found it a bit confusing) I experienced a total of two game crashes.  The first one I honestly cannot recall the circumnstances of. The second was towards the end of the game, after purchasing one of Velana's Mage spells (sorry, I cannot recall which one exactly), we entered battle with darkspawn and I have a sneaking suspicion that Velana went a bit wild with all of the spells at her disposal and am guessing that that may have contributed to the crash.  I don't believe it was a case of too many mages, for I generally try to have one mage in my party (my Warden is a rogue and I either have Anders or Velana in my part, and not both). Sorry, I can't give any more details and it's only guesswork on my part, though I think it makes sense.

Now, I have yet to find out what effect, if any, patch 1.04 has on Origins, since I have only played Awakening and the two DLCs, Darkspawn Chronicles and Leliana's Song after installing this patch.  Am hoping to play with Origins this weekend and will have a better idea then of any adverse changes. Patch 1.04 runs fine on my 4-year-old XP PC with a minimum config video card. The game used to crash once every 2 days; now it hasn't crashed since I've installed the patch.

Which makes me think the crashing may be OS-related.  I also have XP, as well as my friends that got me the game.  Would the people that are crashing (as well as people that are not crashing) start stating their version of Windows?

if you don't have any dlc or awakening you should stick with 1.02a.

Don't believe it's possible to stick to 1.02a when you have Awakening installed; Awakening is bundled with patch 1.03.

i know. look at what i said. if you don't have any dlc or awakening stick with 1.02a.

So I'm gonna assume that your account information on the Downloadable Content screen (Available Content tab) is updating correctly (before attempting to download) if you are attempting to download already; correct me if I'm wrong.

Considering you're using a laptop, I'm gonna assume you're on wireless.  It may be possible that those ports are not enabled or are blocked over the wireless connection.  If you are using wireless, try connecting to the internet via a LAN cable instead.

If you are not able to download through a LAN cable either, then the issue is most likely a hardware firewall.  In this case, check to see if your router has a hardware firewall enabled.  If it does, either disable it or forward the ports to your laptop (we still need that information from BW as I don't know what ports are used for downloading DLC.

If a hardware firewall is not enabled, then it may be possible that there is something else on your computer that is running on your computer that is blocking it from accessing the internet.  For starters, what type of protection do you use (i.e. McAfee, Norton)?  If you are unsure, post a screenshot of your running processes.  Text method works also:
Gonna use some instructions from the Xfire wiki to explain how to do this:
http://wiki.xfire.co...ot_of_processes

For me the game can feel "slower" right upon starting the game plus it crashed for the first time in ages within the 1st hour of playing. My OS is Win7 64bit.

Well, the first problem is that you're using IE; there's a reason why it's known far and wide across the internet as "internet exploder".  Even if you don't feel like changing, just download firefox, chrome, or some other browser, make it your default browser to download the DLC, then uninstall the browser and make IE your default again.

I haven’t tried these steps yet (and of course my action were almost all the opposite of what is suggested and hence why I encountered this bug I’d imagine) but am looking forward to my next playthrough to test it out.

Sigrun’s Joining. The Last of the Legion was the last main quest I completed and I found that, despite Sigrun’s Joining appearing in my journal, I was unable to get this event to trigger, for when I went to speak with Varel, the events of the Siege of Vigil’s Keep played out.

I don't think the first one is a bug, According to Dragon Age wiki you just have to get Orgren to 76+ approval rating before you can complete his quest, that's how it worked for me anyway.

About your second point, I always do the Blackmarsh first and the Knotwood Hills last, but I managed to get Sigrun's joining done simply by heading back off to the Keep as soon as you pick her up in your party, I just spoke to Varel and it triggered her joining. You still get the dialog appear at the end of the Knotwood hills where you offer her the chance to become a Grey Warden but the quest shows as complete in my quests log anyway. Give that a go if you want to pick up Justice first.

Many thanks kingjezza, I shall definitely give that a go.  With Oghren it's really difficult to get his approval up high enough as even though his approval is reset to 0 in Awakening, I can only get a max of 6 approval for each gift i give him, instead of the usual 10 like I do with others (of course, think I teased him a bit here and there, and so he disapproved somewhat... will have to play around with that a bit). But thank you for the info, wasn't away that you need to get him to 76 approval.

And thanks for the infor on Sigrun. I will give that a go as well. Although I am still concerned about the "loyalty" mission (to borrow the term from ME2). Think I will simply NOT complete the "Law and Order" quest in Amaranthine, then do Blackmarsh (I just HAVE to get Justice first, I love him all decked out in the Sentinel Armor Posted Image), go pick up Sigrun, get her Joining done and her mission in Amaranthine, then I will be able to finish "Law and Order"... which mean I shall have to leave Wending Woods for the last... ah, Blackblade Armor, I shall miss you dearly! Posted Image

Thanks again for the info hun. We shall have to experiment!

Ah maybe that is a slight bug then if you can only get +6 per gift, that would certainly make it more of a struggle. I think I was getting +10, +9, +8 etc etc for each gift I gave him, and more for the Toy horse. I still had to give him a couple of random +1 gifts to reach +76. That could probably be worked around by making sure you get full approval from him each time you talk to him, I got a couple of small Oghren disapproves.

I've played Awakening twice and neither time have got Sigruns personal mission as it just makes little logical sense to do things in the order you have to to make it trigger, maybe i'll make the effort next time.

For what it's worth, I ahd a problem with MMO's where I couldnt log on. it turned out to be the security software downloaded from my internet provider that had a bug. The software doesn't like the MMO's use of multiple ports, or something along those lines.

I have to disable my firewall temporarily to log on to an MMO. After that, turning it back on is fine.

DA2 is not far off.  What do you think they'll be focusing on, considering they haven't focused on DA1 support yet (day-one bugs remain unaddressed in every patch).
Bioware is showing more and  more similarities to Obsidian in their approach to QA/game updates - and that's not a compliment.

I'll offer a few, but this is by no means all of the mods that are available:

Blackblade armor fix - http://www.dragonage...ile.php?id=1112
2-handed Vigilance fix - http://www.dragonage...ile.php?id=1168
Find Vitals fix - http://www.dragonage...ile.php?id=1060
Ostagar Mage's Chest Key - http://dragonagenexu...file.php?id=728

Issues that have no current fix available:

Stealing absent from Tactics - no mod available (Advanced Tactics does not fix this in 1.04)

Feel free to copy/expand upon this list in replies.  I'm sure some will find it useful, including myself once more items are added.

In my game the worst decay I suffer is with time for dead corpse to become lootable.. as the time of gameplay increases I have to wait more and more time before they become lootable.. Therefore after a while I close and restart the game and then dead corpses become immediately lootable again.. But after a while the time i have to wait begin to increase again

It's the only problem 1.04 didn't fix to my game, since it solved crashes/loading time problems

Obviously, there is still a memory leak occuring, albeit on a much more limited basis than before patch 1.04. I know for a fact that it crashes far less; in fact, I've yet to experience a CTD since installing it. Definitely a win for me!!
