I do apologize if all of this has been stated before. I simply wish to share my observations after patch 1.04 has been applied to get a sense of what still needs to be addressed (and I hope I am not the only one experiencing these things).
Specifics: Am playing on a PC, have both physical disc versions of Origins and Awakening. Had Origins patched to 1.02a, then installed Awakening, which installed 1.03, then installed patch 1.04. With this, my first playthrough ever of Awakening, I did NOT use any mods, although I did run the game with the enabledeveloperconsole function.
Observations
After the Assault of Vigil’s Keep has been concluded, when in the Throne Room for the first time and after the initial Joining Ritual, I spoke to each of Mistress Woolsey, Varel and Captain Garevel and got the three main quests. After Nathaniel’s Joining the three main quests in my journal seemed to have reset and when I spoke with the three main quest taskgivers, it was like I never spoken to them before. Introductions began anew and new journal entries were received for the main quests. Although when speaking to Varel, instead of getting the conversation about the main quest, instead I got the Fealty quest.
Solution: revert to a previous save before my first conversation with the three main taskgivers, obtained Nathaniel, completed the Fealty quest… and only spoke to the three main taskgivers once I was interested in setting upon a main quest. Note for future playthroughs; recruit Nathaniel first, then obtain the main quests.
Oghren the Family Man. I encountered a bug with this quest, where it remained unresolved in my journal al throughout Awakening. Obtained the quest, then tried to increase Oghren’s approval as much as possible (thinking that was the cause) but despite getting his approval to 69 or so, was unable to resolve it.
Solution: Urshakk sets out the specific parameters to follow in order to get this quest resolved in this thread: http://social.biowar...30563/1#2030642
I haven’t tried these steps yet (and of course my action were almost all the opposite of what is suggested and hence why I encountered this bug I’d imagine) but am looking forward to my next playthrough to test it out.
Silverite Mines – gear not returned. While in Wending Wood, I completed all the quests in the area and followed the story, not once even glancing or approaching the Mines entrance. After Velana joined my party, I then proceeded to the Mines. My Warden ended up wearing her small clothes in the cell, while the other companions were sporting Clothing – and all of my inventory, aside from the equipped gear of my companions and myself, was still in my possession. I found my companions’ gear on the three Experimental Subjects, however the fourth Subject (supposedly the one who was wearing my gear) didn’t have said gear. And the chest next to Armaas was empty. Here is exactly what I was wearing prior to entering the Mines: Battledress of the Provocateur, Wolf Threads, Wade’s Superior Dragonskin Gloves, Dumat’s Spine, Twinblade, Precision-Geared Recurve, Panacea, Illumination, Corin’s Proposal and Lifegiver. No, no helm.
Solution: Just prior to entering the Mines, stripped my entire gear, and stashed everything in my inventory. When I awoke in the cell, my Warden was also wearing Clothing, just like the rest of my party, and my inventory was completely empty. Of course, it’s somewhat… disconcerting entering these forlorn mines full of darkspawn wearing nothing but my small clothes and a smile… not to mention the encounter with someone rather creepy, with my Warden butt-naked… ewwwwww!
Blackblade Armor Set. I was able to obtain the tunic and helm in the Mines, however, never encountered the boots and gloves.
Solution: I installed Schwinni’s Awakening Blackblade Armor Dragon Drop Fix, my very first (and so far, the only) mod. I actually installed the optional Blackblade Drop Fix Dragon Thralls, and not the main one. Getting the boots and gloves to drop from the dragon thralls at the end of the Mines makes more sense to me, rather than waiting to almost the very end of the game to obtain them. After all, my shoes need to match the rest of my outfit! (and I have no doubt Leliana would agree with me completely *wink*). This mod works as described and I haven’t encountered any problems with it whatsoever. http://dragonagenexu...ile.php?id=1112
Sigrun’s Joining. The Last of the Legion was the last main quest I completed and I found that, despite Sigrun’s Joining appearing in my journal, I was unable to get this event to trigger, for when I went to speak with Varel, the events of the Siege of Vigil’s Keep played out.
Solution: Need to have The Last of the Legion as the very first main quest completed, i.e. before completing the Blackmarsh main quest. Supposedly, that will allow for Sigrun’s Joining to play out. A bit annoying in a game where supposedly you can complete the main quests in any order… and I really wish to recruit Justice as soon as possible, as he is a wonderful tank (and I got a soft spot for zombies, what can I say), but if that’s what has to be done, then that’s what has to be done. Mind you, I haven’t tested this YET, but I believe that this is the consensus on the workaround.
Sigrun’s Roguish Past. I was unable to trigger this event, having done the City of Amaranthine quests first, then Blackmarsh, then Wending Wood and Knotwood Hills last. Having completed the Law and Order quest in City of Amaranthine, I was unable to bump into Mischa, despite dragging Sigrun all over Amaranthine a number of times.
Solution: Complete the main quest in Knotwood Hills first (and, hence, complete Sigrun’s Joining), then visit Amaranthine and complete Sigrun’s Roguish Past and only then let loose with the Smuggler’s Run/Law and Order quests and any other quests in Amaranthine… probably will do Blackmarsh right after Sigrun’s quests are squared away and then continue with my mission.
One question I have though; if I complete the Wending Wood/Silverite Mines quest arc as my very last main quest, will Velana’s Joining be skipped over just as Sigrun’s had been or will it, in fact, trigger properly and only after Velana’s Joining is complete, will the Siege of Vigil’s Keep play out?
Does this summarize generally where things stand now after patch 1.04? Have I missed any observations that appear to be common for others? I haven’t mentioned the DLC slow authorization, as it has been addressed numerously in this thread. Most of the times, despite my settings being set to always connect with my profile, I have to launch Dragon Age twice before my DLCs are authorized, but that has always been the case for me. Yes, somewhat annoying, but I can certainly live with that.
Thank you guys.
EDIT: GHA, sorry, formatting was all messed up, had to correct it.
