It has been said before, but I'll say it again: it is futile to post these bug reports in the announcement forum. Bioware only posts announcements here. Take your support-related posts to the appropriate support forums. I don't expect it will make much difference, as they fall on deaf ears there just as they do here, but Bioware (and Victor in particular) has an established track record of posting the announcement and then never again responding to questions posed in the thread. Chances are much better that information will be compiled from the support threads. Continuing to post here will likely serve no purpose.

I just thought that I would let you folks as well as the folks at Bioware know that the 1.04 Patch for DOA and Awakening has bugs which it didn't have before they are as follows:

In DOA the Lelianna quest doesn't activate at all now; no matter what her aproval rating is.

Awakening Bugs:

1,  When you talk to Velanna's Sister when you are in your cell after being captured and use the Persuade option she doesn't give you the key for the one chest thats in the room just south and west of the chest where your stuff is supposed to be at by the Merchaant. Armaas.

2. In The Silverite mines while doing the "Righteous Path" Main Ques where you have to kill the 4 different experimental Subjects to get allot your stuff back. There is only 3 of them to be found. The 4th one is MIA so the main Character isn't able to get his stuff back.

3. The chest by Armass where your stuff is located when you open it is Empty!!! There is nothing in it at all.

Now it was fine before the 1.04 patch was installed and I didn't have any of these issuses. I guess I'm going to have to re-install the game and start all over from the very begining. Will have to admit that this is getting old. I knew I shouldn't have patched the game so quickly.

Also in both DOA and Awakening the game is still takes a very long time to open up an area. I thought this patch was suppose to clear things up not break it more.

Sorry Redneck but those were known flaws before the 1.04 patch. Some equiped items often (not always!) cause a problem (Key to the City for instance). You know there has been a problem if your character awakes nude in the cell (as opposed to wearing clothing); you will not get the key from Seranni, the experiment subject with your characters stuff will be missing, a certain chest will not open as well as the chest near Amass containing the rest of your things will be empty. As a side note if some odd items are missing from the Amass chest, it will be in your party chest at the Keep. I hope you have a save before you entered the mines...

Redneck - a quick fix - if you have a save game before the mines is to unequip your character first then enter the mines

These two bugs existed in 1.03 as well, and apparently are the result of any party NPC having character-specific or class-specific items equipped when entering the Silverite Mines.  A work-around is to take those items off; the correct number of Experimental Subjects should spawn and your spare items should appear in the chest at the end of the dungeon.

The fact that this is probably the most-reported issue in the game and yet BioWare did nothing to fix it really shows how much they care about the game and their fanbase.  Vote with your wallet and refuse to buy Dragon Age 2, DLC, as well as any other games by BioWare and EA.

That may not be entirely fair - Microsoft limits what can be pushed out in a "Title Update" on the Xbox (size, contents), like the Vigilence bug.  I'm all for calling out Bioware when they screw up, like the whole 1.04 patch fiasco, but be careful about presuming to know what they "care about".

I have installed the patch but have not done another playthrough yet...is it that bad?  Do I go back to 1.02?

The results are... inconsistent at best, some people report total stability, others report no change and in my experience the random crashing has been curtailed, but certain spells will crash the game.

The phrase "your mileage may vary" is appropriate here. The only thing I could suggest is to try the patch and see for yourself.

Ditto.  Results will vary from one PC to another but from what I've read on the forums, it seems to be working for most people.

Patch 1.04 has made my DA experience much better.  I used to CTD once every 2 days and now, I've not encountered a single CTD since the patch came out.  The companion quests in Awakening are now available.  The approval is working properly now.  I even managed to get Oghren's approval high enough to trigger his quest which was not possible before.

Bear in mind, my PC is a 4-year-old box running Windows XP with an AT-1600 card (just bare minimum config).  I suspect that my setup coincides with their minimum config test box and that's probably why I've had few problems.  MOst of the players having bugs and frequent CTD's seem to be those running the latest and greatest cutting edge hardware/software (ie Windows 7, 64-bit OS, 1GB graphics cards that could paint the universe in a second) - Bioware can't possible have test configs for all the multiple plethora of newest hardware/software out there.

Give the patch 1.04 a try.  I also have installed version 2.0 of Qwinn's fixpatch which fixes a lot of the dialogue bugs with Alistair and Leliana and I've seen dialogue that I've never encountered before that (ie talking to Alistair while in the Kocari Wilds).  Image IPB

Wanted to say thanks for the patch - it's allowed me to finish Awakenings for the first time. The game ran a lot smoother, and I had no noticeable bugs save the ones I already knew you weren't able to fix (Silverite Mines, Blackblade armour, Vigilance appearance). There was much less lag throughout, and I only suffered one crash - while saving the city I fought a genlock shadow - the game crashed upon killing him. When I reloaded and did that bit again the game didn't crash, but the shadow's decoy didn't disappear upon his death - it just sort of stood there and the guards just hit it repeatedly until the next cut scene and area transition (into the Chantry) ...

Anyway, thanks again :0)

PS Good news about Qwinn, nonetheless - I intend to download his fixpack for my next DA:O runthrough x

The 1.04 update addresses some stability and performance issues that were causing crashes for some people.  However, many crashes (specifically associated with Mana Clash and other spells) remain a problem.  Beyond these fixes, nothing else was addressed.  This means that *none* of the broken/missing content in the expansion was fixed (fixes were not even attempted/claimed) by this update.  For those still encountering stability issues, this update literally does nothing.  For those able to play longer than before, there is a greater likelyhood that they will encounter the game-breaking bugs that continue to plague the expansion.

Now the only thing that's making my game crash is the Templar move "Holy Smite". As long as I keep Alistair from doing it, my game runs good. Until enemy Templars do it....

I'm still remarkably happy about this patch though. >:)

Be aware that for all the truly excellent things in Qwinn's fixpack, it appears that his fixes may affect Leliana's personnel quest in a negative way...so you will want to ensure you get his updated fixpack once it's released (he was targeting 16 August).  Good luck.

Sounds like the patch can't find the registry keys for the game.  Considering the game can't find the registry keys anyways, you should be able to just delete the directories for the game & reinstall them to restore them.  If you have saves, screenshots or MODs that you want to backup beforehand, you can do that before deleting those directories; they just can't be in the directories before reinstalling.  You might be able to just rename those directories rather than deleting them, but you'll only want to copy over any of the screenshots, saves & unoffiical MODs; the other files associated with the game can corrupt your installation.

If you're having technical issues, please post on the PC support forum - not only do we have folks looking there, but you are more likely to get community help.

Shizit - I'm not sure what would cause the game to install without reg keys - please post on the PC support forum and include details of how the game was installed in the first place (was this through a digital download provider, etc).

Also, WonderGamer may be on the right track - have you tried a re-install over top of what is there currently? If the patch doesn't recognize the game is installed, it is likely the original installer won't either, and it may be able to re-add everything it needs. Make a copy of your mydocs/bioware/dragon age folder first though.

They may have trouble repatching however, which is why I said to delete everything & start fresh.  I've found that the patching method that you guys use is very touchy when there are still files in those directories, usually causing an error that makes the patching process fail, making you have to start over anyways.

And the only thing I can think of that would cause a game to be installed without registry keys is if they didn't actually install it at all; more like copying the files over from another computer or leaving the game on your hard drive after doing a fresh install of your OS.  The other thing might be they restored their registry to a time before the game was installed, so the registry keys were non-existant after the restore.

I rarely get lag in the game with v1.04 and have not had any crashes yet. Load times have also improved dramatically.

I noticed some lag in areas involving lots of Frame Buffer effects (Ostagar) and the guy yelling outside the chantry in Lothering.

Make sure you disable Ambient Occlusion in the Nvidia Control Panel unless you have a good computer, it can easily cripple performance.

Well Dragon Age will probably become like Oblivion where fans had to make a unofficial patch to fix all the bugs and such. I'm a PS3 owner but i think we get all the problems the PC does. Thought it was weird Lelina wouldn't give me her quest on my newest file. Somewhat ticked and glad Sentinel Armor is glitched cause i kinda like the Warden Commander skin look but i like how it originally looks. But yeah seriously with the Ultimate Collection coming out in october they need to do some damage control on bugs and stuff on all the systems.
