Have you tried to start Dragon Age Updater service prior to launching DA:O? For this, exit the game, open Windows main menu, select Run..., type "services.msc" (without the quotes) and press Enter. In the Services window, look for Dragon Age: Origins - Updater service. Right-click on this service and select Start in the contextual menu. Once the service has started, close Services window and relaunch the game.

The contextual menu is the menu that appears when you right click on the service name.

Then try the following after the game launch:
1. from main menu, check that you are logged in then select Downloadable Content
2. if you see your DLCs on a green background and Points balance updating, continue to step 7
3. wait for Point Balance to be updated
4. close panel
5. click again Downloadable Content
6. this time you should see your installed DLC on a green background and the Points Balance in update mode again
7. wait for Points Balance to be updated.

Your DLCs should now be enabled under Downloadable Content > Installed Content.

I also have this version and following the above steps prevents any authorization issues I may have.

Hi, I've just downloaded Darkspawn Chronicles but I'm unable to actually start playing it. I manually installed it aswell but that didn't seem to help, except for the fact it's now at least showing up on my installed tabbed. But it would seem my account is no matter what, unauthorized to play the content. Aswell as my older previous DLC's. Is there any way to sort this ? Thanks.

Ah, you're the one that tried to help me on that other post. But again, I can't.  When I try to start the service, I get a msg saying;

"Dragon Age - Content Update on local computer started and stopped
again. Certain services will automaticilly stop if they aren't being
used by other services or programs."

Roughly translated from swedish to english. And yes, I'm admin on the PC.

After about 8 months off I'm trying to complete the game. Unfortunately I'm have the same issue with unauthorized dlc with my game save. I bought the collectors edition from Steam.

I tried this with no actual success. It shows it as authorized until I load the game and it becomes unauthorized again.

You'd think with all these people having this issue, Bioware would make an attempt to do something about it.

But no - instead, there's more DLC available next week - so we can all spend money on something that won't work!

So after reading through the thread and tryed all the suggestions, and mye DLCs are still unauthorised. So what you are basically telling me is that i wasted mye mony on buying the DLCs, if this was anything else in the world i would be demanding mye mony back for buying something that thosent work as intended.... For the sake of argument i went to piratebay and read the comments under one of the DA:O DLC pack torrents, if i had downloaded that instead i would have been playing with all the DLCs 5 hours ago... If your aganst piratecopying (which i am) please try to have better sercvice than them... Because this is Bull¤%&!

Go to the "My Documents\\Bioware\\Dragon Age\\Settings\\" folder. Delete or rename the "profile.dap" file. Make sure you have Dragon Age Updater service activated. Start the game and log in. Go to Downloadable Content menu and wait for an update.

Unfortunately you need to do this every time you restart the game and log in but everything should stay authorized as long as you stay logged off. Only time you need to be logged in should be when you start a dlc quest chain.

I haven't seen this anywhere else yet and I came across this thread while looking for a solution to this issue with DLC that I have paid for and played with for some time now becoming "unauthorized".

First, I'd like to say that it's appalling that this has been an issue for so long and yet still there is no official fix. If EA is so interested in protecting their profit margin that they want to use lame systems like this login mess, which amount to nothing but a rather large annoyance for the paying customers, AT LEAST they can fix it in a timely manner when it breaks.

This is why I will avoid any products produced by EA in the future.

That said, the solution I found elsewhere was to edit the AddIns.xml file.

This file is located in My Documents\\BioWare\\Dragon Age\\settings

Once you have all of your purchased DLC properly installed, start the game and login.

Try to play your old save or otherwise start a game with the DLC enabled.

If the system tells you no and marks some of them are unauthorized, exit out, find the mentioned file and open it in notepad.

It is an xml file so it will have a lot of tags in it. Each set of tags describes a DLC and it's properties.

Click the edit menu, and choose find.

Type in RequiresAuthorization=

Click find next and you should land on one of the tag headers.

Now simply change the RequiresAuthorization="1" to RequiresAuthorization="0"

Do this for each of the dlc you bought from EA/BioWare.

Once you have made the changes, save the file and try to play your game with all the content you paid for.

P.S. - If you have a DLC that says unauthorized and you don't find a RequiresAuthorization="1" flag in it's opening header tag then you may be able to add it in before the >.

XML tags work a lot like html tags and there are often default values that the tags are meant to override.

It should look something like this:

<AddInItem UID="DAO_PRC_NRX_1" Name="PRC1 - Grey Warden Base" ExtendedModuleUID="Single Player" Priority="1" Enabled="1" State="2" Format="1" BioWare="1" RequiresAuthorization="0">

Be sure to make a backup of files you edit in case you mess up.

For those of you who are going to ignore the backup advice, anything a game puts in My Documents will usually get restored if you delete it. At the least, you can have stream verify the cache and that will fix it.

Not going to buy DA2 will play something else when completed.. OBLIVION rules anyways... November (SKYRIM) cant come soon enough! BioWare is loosing all its creds with me... Been a fan since BG... to bad.

Waiting doesn't seem to work for me. Is there any difference if I purchased the DLC individually or, as in my case, got it all in the DAO ultimate edition?
