I think most servers require SoZ though I have heard of a few that don't require it. What those are I can't remember. You should get SoZ though!

yeah i know ... but i coudnt find in any store in the city i live here in brazil and by the internet its kinda expensive, so i use steam ... but there isnt nwn1/2 on steam

You should be able to see which servers your client is compatible with in Gamespy. I believe servers listed in WHITE means your version and the server version are a match. Servers listed in GREY means they are not compatible.

you can try baldurs gate. It uses some SoZ content but doesn't require players to have it to login.
People who don't have SoZ seem to get by w/o it.

BG frequently maxes out at 75 I believe. So yes, lots of players.

Midgardsaga currently only has the official campaign and motb though we don't have 40+ players online, nonetheless if you like role-playing and viking mythology feel free to have a look.

Dammendrech only recently moved to SoZ and doesn't require it for login, and since most areas were built without the expansion, you won't miss much either.
The 40+ is a little utopic though, most servers but very few have much less players, which isn't actually a bad thing as long as they aren't desolate. Dammendrech has a small, dedicated base of excellent roleplayers, you'll always find people to play with and it's definitely worth a try.
