This just all of a sudden hit me. There's been lots of back-and-forth over whether or not the fruit of Morrigan's dark ritual will play a role in the sequel, whether that story should be made canon, etc....

Well, that's as may be.

But Rise to Power begins during the Lothering sequence of Origins -- and it ends only ten years later. Whether or not Morrigan's pregnancy and baby are made canon or not, the kid would be an infant for most of DA2, and only nine years old by the end of the story.

Bioware may be holding Morrigan's baby in reserve as a character for DA3, but he or she is unlikely to play any major role in DA2. A brief glimpse as a babe in arms, perhaps, or as a scowling urchin in the shadows at the back of Morrigan's hut, but I don't see how a toddler -- even one with the soul of a god -- could rise to the level of major adversary.

Wouldn't be surprised that Morrigan walks the path of flemeth and manages to take over the body of the god baby/child at a certain point.
(Who is to say that flemeth's demon has not already planted a seed in Morrigan at a certain point of her life, waiting to become active and continue the path of flemeth)

Hawke: "Aww, look at the cute little.."

God baby: *leaps out of its cradle and sinks its fangs into Hawke's hand*

Hawke: "Oh Maker, NO! Get it off, get it off! Aaaargh it's puking black fire on me..."

It's a human child with the soul of an old god, not the other way around. This kid could only be eight to nine by the end of DA2

Admit it though, an old god with the soul of a human child would be pretty awesome.

The rise to power does not start during Lothering. Hawke is originally from Lothering, and his rise to power takes ten years. Nowhere has it been stated that you begin the game in Lothering, and end it ten years later in the Free Marches.

If you look in the 'What We Know' thread there is a fair bit of discussion on the subject. The overall consensus being that the story will begin some time after Hawke has fled Lothering. As otherwise you would spend much of the 10 year period of the game running around as a child, which while interesting as a brief introduction, wouldn't make for very believable gameplay.

The game does NOT take place "10 years after Origins." It SPANS a 10-year period. When it starts hasn't been
revealed." [David Gaider]

Depending upon Hawkes age when he leaves Lothering, and the time that has passed, the god-baby could very well be an adult character.

Finally! This thread needed to happen months ago. Now if only people could get it out of their thick skulls that the child will be evil.

9 years old? Hmm, coincedently, how old was Conner?

EDIT: Point is, whatever the GodChild's age, with the soul of an Old God (an uncorrupted old god at that, which doesnt necessarily mean its evil) the wee bairns going to have a crapload of power at it hands. Conner himself was only a lad and his demon possesed-ness would pale in comparison. Magic kids of any age are dangerous.

Hmm, should have maybe enlisted them to fight at Ostegar ^_^

I was going to say this but it seems Ive been beaten to it....Now, on the other hand, there may be some ellusion to said "god baby" around the end of the game seeing as how it takes place over the span of a decade....Again, for those confused, this means that from the time you start the game, until the time you finish it, a span of 10 years will have passed....Not sure what is so hard to understand about this concept Posted Image

Come now, we all know BioWare is holding the child in reserve for what all of us want.

And that's a complete remake of the Baldur's Gate series.
