stop being stupid, please. Cerberus is not exactly a legitimate entity, and they won't care what armor Shepard wears. N7 is the style of armor that Shepard is most familiar with, so that's what they're going to issue him. Just because he's wearing the armor with the N7 mark doesn't necessarily mean that Shepard is still part of the Alliance military.

Mordin still wears his old STG style armor, Garrus has his old Agent rig from C-Sec, Grunt has a unique armor made by his 'father', Jack doesn't wear much of anything, and Tali has her environmental suit. The only people wearing Cerberus uniforms are Miranda, Jacob, and the Normandy crew, and the crew's outfits are pretty much replicas of Alliance uniforms with a slightly different color scheme.

Not to mention that Alliance Hating Twerp from Horizon is wearing the Alliance uniform straight down to his ball cap. Does that mean he secretly works for the Alliance while pretending to hate them?:D

 the alliance in the future is not a brotherhood type of alliance... it's a galactic government with allied forces of other races... like the federation of planets in star trek (creating their own alliance military called starfleet)...

Wrong again. It is human only. Question, did you even read the codex?

correction, cerberus is a only human first organization (sacrificing humans first)... yet allows for you to recruit alien squad members (insert more plot holes/contradictions here)... the alliance on the other hand started off with a alien trying to recruit shepard into the alliance spectre program, from the alliance military of aliens+humans...

The Alliance as a political and military body only has authority over human occupied worlds. You would know this if you had read the codex. The fact that the Alliance has cordial relations with other races and alliances is really quite separate from that. To follow your logic, Canada has good relations with the US and Canadian soldiers work with American soldiers (both true) therefore Canada has full legal control of the US (not true) ;)

i'm lost dude. let's just say in the mass effect sense... earth is the capitol planet for all humans (yet isn't completely under the alliance rule)... yet elsewhere other planets colonized by humans are under the alliance guidelines  or something... other planets could be human territory/commonwealth but it isn't under "earth"'s rule...

Dear God a glimmer of comprehension at last. Earth is still Earth with all it's crappy politics and separate nations. The Alliance has full authority over all colonies outside of Sol. It is effectively it's own governemtn and the voice of humanity to the rest of the galaxy but very separate from the home governments of Earth.

Yeah the Systems Alliance sorta like a UN that doesn't totally suck, actually has power, and doesn't have idiots in charge.

Technicaly Shepard is still a commander of the Alliance Fleet. In reality his/her rank means little as a spectre in the first game. The Shepard working for Cerberus is not very welcome in the human military (or basicaly everywhere) even if they havent officialy turned their backs on him/her yet. In any case a promotion seems unlikely at the moment.

N7 is not a rank, it is a military specialty and proficiency. You could have a corporal N7 or an admiral A1.

so if he isn't military, and not a commander anymore... why still wear N007?

It fits good and is top of the line and no one would dare tell him to give it back, so why not?

Alliance of Planets/Federation of Planets
Alliance Council (people who represent their race/planets)
Alliance Spectre Program (works directly for the council)
    Alliance Military
Military Ranks Commissioned (works under the military protocol)

To mess with his former superiours in the Alliance perhaps?

Do you understand that the N7 is Shepard's trademark/logo right, as in marketing? Might not make total sense in-universe but that's why everything is very N7-ized in ME2.

Shepard isn't technically Alliance anymore, he's called commander because he's very well known as "Commander Shepard"

they only said, they wish he completes whatever mission he has with cerberus and to end his dealings with them as soon as possible... didn't say that he was fired.

Again, why not. He is a great marketing/propaganda tool. No one's got the stones to try to tell him no, you can't wear that. Shepard respects his past as an N7 and he is no longer in that organization officially.

A paragon can still be a Spectre, but Shepard left the Alliance officially the day he was sworn in as a Spectre. The 2 roles are incompatible. A Spectre can only answer to the Council. The Alliance is one out who knows how many species governemnts. That is a conflict of interest that cannot be tolerated.

 so why not personally wear male speedos for the ladies over your halo 3 N7 Nike Adias armour aswell, right? like the what the hell, go for it... there's no military dress code and all... the military don't have one...totally wouldn't be violating protocol...

Do you understand that there are marketing reasons *outside* of the in-game universe for the N7 logo right? it is depicted in a bunch of merchandise, the CE cover etc...it's Shepard's logo an it doesn't strictly has to make sense in the in-game universe, example: N7 missions you stumble around are called N7 without having anything to do with the Alliance.
Shepard is not with the Alliance, he's declared KIA, he is a Cerberus Operative and a potential Specter depending on your actions in the game, he's never going to be officially reinserted in the Alliance Military until he's done with Cerberus.

i'm just saying, in context of the mass effect series main story/characterization...  not in the not playing the games for story perspective....
