As a fan of almost all of Biowares games, especially DA:O, I am like many of you eager for DA2. However, I am concerned with the new direction Bioware is going in with the game thus far. Let me start off by saying that I understand that the game release is months and months away, and things may change between now and then. This is just my opininion on what we know thus far.
The console version of the game will be more fast paced. This is a great concern for me as I absolutely loved the way DA:O functioned. Was it a bit slow and tedious at time? Of course. But it was very strategic and functioned well imo. Secondly, there will be no central plot to the game... No evil to eradicate, no higher purpose to serve. There will just be Hawke's life told out.. This sounds a bit more like Fable than DA, and I for one have a great disdain for the Fable series. Without a main mission, I fear that DA2 will be bland and one dimensional. Saving a city or letting burn may have consequences in the long run in this game, and while that sounds cool, its simply not enough. I want a rich history and a deep central campaign. This game design would be a perfect epilogue for DA:O, for those who want to follow their warden further in his/her life. However, this is the next in the series and it doesn't seem as though it will have enough substance for us hardcore RPG fans.
Other issues such as having a VA for Hawke, being restricted to humans, and the new ME style conversation wheel are a bit different, but not altogether daunting. Please Bioware, the DA series has potential to be the best thing since sliced bread, bu DA2 isnt exciting me like it should. It seems that the great RPG style is giving way to a cause and effect game. While that sounds cool, I, and many others, would rather see the game as a true RPG (we all know they are rare). Sorry for the length guys  Posted Image..

From the GameInformer article.

"Rather than try to mimic the PC experience on consoles, Dragon Age II has a battle system more tailored to the strengths of the PS3 and 360. You can still issue orders and switch between your party members, but the team aims to make the action feel faster and more responsive--no more shuffling into position as you wait for your maneuver to activate."

Personally, I like this, even though I don't play on consoles anymore. I hated running to meet an oncoming group of darkspawn, only to have my character turn around and chase his target all the way back because that particular darkspawn had someone else targeted.

I can safely assure you that the game has a central plot. It may not be about an ancient evil that has awoken, but it is still there.  We have just managed to not completely spoil it so far.

Honestly Mary, if there is no great evil to eradicate, my expectations for this game will rise significantly. Every BioWare game seems to be about saving the world from some such evil - if you guys have decided to do something different here, that will be awesome. From the info so far, it seems like we've got a more personal story.

Whatever they do with the plot, it's onething that I am absolutely not worried about. Game mechanics, etc, yes. Quality of writing, no, not one bit. I'm certain the story will be exciting and engaging.

I, for one, has grown weary (and so have the devs, too, it seems) of the ancient evil that threatens the land - and the hero that can save the day - is you. And, a good story needs a plot...It'll be there...It'll just be a different plot..

Apparently a more personal plot, which I find very appealing.

Still people are curious about the plot and gameplay, but if you told too much about it we would complaints.

Thank you, but we've already got a thread discussing the direction of DA2. Please take your discussion there. Thank you.

"Is still there" doesn't sound all that reassuring to me. It can only be a central plot if it's important, not if it's just an afterthought to connect short stories, like was unfortunately the case in ME 2.

I never understood what's wrong with saving the world anyway. Why is that suddenly a bad concept for a video game? I'll take a hundred well written cliches over some forced "change" every day.
