True, especially those who have strong allegiances; which is understandable if not forgivable. With Linekar though I think it's because he's the host that he can't express his opinion; he does have a column somewhere, didn't he? In that sense it seems to me that Colin Murray on MOTD2 has more leeway for expression than Linekar.
What harm can it do? Another video on YouTube.
Maybe it's a....positive discrimination thing. *Heh*
Having seen the highlights I'm somewhat shocked at Fulham-Blackburn game's refereeing decisions by Webb. That sure looked like a blatant foul in the box to me. Plus...more wrestling moves. I thought only Carragher participated in that sort of thing, even he didn't get away with it this weekend.

Plus considering the media does have a tendency to blame Capello for being a crap manager just because he's not English, I wonder if when Redknapp takes charge and gets disappointing results who get's blamed then? Don't really need to say it do I?
Also regarding Linekar I'm pretty sure he's been like that on TV for a fair bit now, I could also just assume the BBC think their audience is dumb and think Linekar is just that guy who does those crisps adverts.
Yeah what do I know?

What annoys me is that Linekar has played in world cups and played for Barcelona so might have a different insight than "He won't be happy with that." Shearer is kind of terrible, not offensively terrible like Jamie Redknapp but he rarely says anything thats not fence sitting. But atleast he isn't climbing over other people to hammer his stupidity against your screen while butchering the English language. Admittedly my English isn't great but I'm not paid massive amounts of money to talk on tv and didn't produce a magazine aimed at celebrities. Grrrr.
I'm still laughing at the Dalglish thing although it has done what he intended and deflected attention away from £50m worth of talent missing absolute sitters. No one has mentioned Suarez screaming and punching the ground at Henderson and Adam after their misses only to go on himself and miss the target with an even easier chance.

Even the BBC played up Linekar's association with Walkers in They Think It's All Over all those years ago. But yeah, would be interesting if he could engage in the debate rather than just be a host.
Shearer as a pundit just feels boring. Still probably more successful than his time at Newcastle though.
Of those on the BBC I think Lee Dixon is probably my favourite. At least he has things in perspective even when Arsenal got hammered.
Couldn't help but think of Torres when "£50m worth of talent" cropped up; though with the way he seems to be stagnating at the moment I'd be surprised if he's worth much.
I'm pretty sure that there was a thing about Liverpool doing their best for the Respect campaign (can't find it though oddly). That was clearly seen by their player's reaction to the Upson 'handball' incident.....

Shearer is a man who went to paint his fence after winning the PL. That comes across in his punditry.
I agree on Dixon although I can't really remember anyone else they have on the BBC. Klinsmann and and Seedorf were good during the world cup.
Have you seen the whole "fiasco" about Torres calling Chelsea's older players slow? I don't see why theres a problem, calling Terry and Lampard slow is like like calling Shaun Wright-Phillips short and black. They are both true statements so why is it wrong to say them out loud?
Theres been no uproar at all about Liverpool surrounding the ref. If it had been United or Arsenal....Then again I suppose it goes to show they just aren't a big team anymore.

Yeah. Read the original translation a day or two ago. Didn't think much of it. Depends how much was said I would guess, but let us suppose what has been reported is correct. It's not so much what he said but what he said implies. When I read it it seemed to me that Torres is basically saying is 'this is why I haven't been playing well, and it's all their fault. Let me play with Mata.' As for the question you posed, Druss..."You can't handle the truth!" seems appropriate for Torres' situation.
Be interesting to see whether a club gets punishment when their players surround a ref is a decent enough gauge to measure the bigness of a club.
Read about what's happening with Sunderland? I'm rather curious about the fourth point regarding Gyan's loan move about next year being the African Cup of Nations (which seems to be held every two years, seems a bit intense). Wonder if any team has ever considered loaning out their player for that year or that half of the season to save on wages.

I really don't see whats wrong with calling them slow, they must know they are slow. Are footballers ego's really that fragile? When I play I'm fully aware that I'm sh*t at tackling and lack any sort of concentration, I don't live in fear of someone pointing it out. Will Terry be utterly crushed to hear that someone thinks he is slow and is not the greyhound he thinks he is? Will he retire now in shame?
I believe thats the new measure of how big a club is, wether the media thinks it will sell papers when they launch campaigns against them.
I found it interesting that Sunderland tried to turn down the move until the guys turned up at their training ground and more or less bullied them into it. Bullied them by giving them £6m for a loan ofcourse, the swines. I wonder if theres any precedent for not paying players during the ACN?

I would guess that some footballers' ego are more fragile than others; spare a thought for poor Tevez and his bingeing for instance. Thought the Torres thing is probably more a team harmony issue. Most of Chelsea's first team are getting on a bit. I don't think he said anything wrong as such, just that some don't like the truth at times.
Plus Gyan is making some sort of monthly donation while he's on loan as well. Different it has to be said. Have to admit that it was really only a matter of time that he would leave; quite a few players move to the smaller clubs thinking that if they put in a decent shift then one of the big clubs will come calling. I think that's how Wigan has presented itself to certain players they try to get. Nothing wrong with that so long as you're all on the same page.
For some reason I don't think there's been a precedent for not paying a player when they're on international duty. I would imagine clubs wouldn't complain as much if they didn't have to pay for the player's wage when they're on international duty. It would make sense for clubs to take that into account when they are drawing up a contract though, and suddenly appearance based fees are more attractive for the club it would seem. Well...depending on how the contracts are done obviously.

The problem with Gyan's plan is that he really wasn't all that good. Though its rumoured Spurs were in for him in the summer.
If I was offering contracts I'd be atleast looking to negotiate lower wages when on international duty and during the close season. I doubt that thats done though.
'Arry's magical man management skills have seemingly upset Rafa Van Der Vaart.
Also no punishment for Dalglish or Liverpools players yet? How very shocking. Speaking of which the first mail in this link is priceless, it has to be a joke....

Didn't he have a good World Cup? I think he made his name on the international stage, and putting himself into the shop window as it were; so perhaps he feels he could do better.
Given the improvements to be made to Football Manager 2012, I would one day expect more detailed contract negotiations to be included.
That does seem to be the case. Can't believe I'm about to write this...though to be fair to 'Arry, if his injury was as severe as they initially thought then it is understandable. Van der Vaart does have a point about consulting him though. Mind you, ole 'Arry doesn't really care about the Europa League and I'm sure he'd chuck it away if he could get away with it.
I do believe Suarez did get booked for his protest. I think that's all the punishment they'll get. Look at the other disciplinary actions that have taken place since; it looks like they've gotten away with it and it had nothing to do with them pesky kids.
Ah...Liverpool fans. Got to love 'em. No, wait.....

Gyan had a good world cup but still only Sunderland picked him up and he wasn't impressive enough for them for a big team apparently. So he went cash hunting in the UAE. Fair enough if thats what he wants, I think we all know what big team he would have wanted to join with that mentality....Arsenal, obviously.
I haven't seen the list of improvements yet, though to be honest this years will probably last me a couple of years so I'm kinda trying to avoid reading the improvements and being talked into buying it.
'Arry made that same point on SSN and said he didn't tell him because "He were on 'oliday re'abbing weren't he mate, bleedin foreigners. Don't like it up'em do they?" or words to that effect which sounded like a vague passing the blame to VDV stunt to me "You weren't 'ere you poof, I'd have told you if you were 'ere your 'avin' a laugh intcha? No income tax no garantee, jellied eels mate, tables and chairs." I may be paraphrasing.
Suarez got booked? I hadn't noticed that. If Sir Alex got in trouble for praising a ref then surely Dalglish's comments should get him in trouble. Your right though, Bardsley and Tamas getting punished seems to be the end of the weekend repurcussions. Conspiracy!
Speaking of which Chelsea got the benefit of some very dodgy decisions tonight. A goal disallowed against them for no reason and Luiz should have been sent off long before he scored. Torres played well and set up both goals.
Great strikes from Pato, Hulk and Villa tonight. Pato's pace was amazing, Hulks freekick was ridiculous he's a player I'd love to see at United. Best team in the history of the world and more than a football club where held to a 2-2 draw by the former best team in the history of the world.
Going back to the flops I saw one in the CL tonight that reminded me, not sure if anyone mentioned him but Mateja Kezman.

*Heh* Seeing what Niall Quinn (I think I got the name right), it would be interesting to see what happens when his loan move ends.
He would do that and all. It's interesting to see that van der Vaart places some importance to it though even though the Europa League is the second tier of European competition. It's nice to see, and I wonder whether it has more prestige on the continent than we seem to give it over here. Also...see the thing about Sion? Sounds rather daft to me.
Yeah, I'm pretty sure it was for his rant when the ball hit Upson's hand (the second handball incident as it were). He was booked after that; at least that's what it looked like from the highlights (shame we don't have it on the iPlayer to check).
I read that Luiz was lucky. With some luck I might see some of the highlights tonight. And Torres playing well? I get the feeling he won't be considered playing well 'properly' until he starts scoring on a regular basis. He'll need that sort of form if he's to win back his place in the national side.
Hulk is just a great name to have on the pitch. Maybe someone can use Juggernaut in the future.
Ah...Kezman. We might have mentioned him before. Did he play well?
Both Manchester clubs in action tonight. Be interesting to see what they can do to the European teams they play considering their remarkable start to the season.
EDIT: so someone Blackburn fans want Bob sacked, and want Mark Hughes back? Would Hughes go back?

I think ITV show the highlights tonight but I'm not sure.
Hulk is fantastic, I might start calling myself Mystique when I recover. To signify that no one knows my position, mostly because I'm kind of crap in them all. Kind of reminds me of the time we were playing in a 7-a-side tournament and they made the mistake of sending me and someone who is easily swayed to hand in our team sheet. I changed the team name and everyone got aliases. All the other teams were named after bars or "Streetname" Celtic/United/Rovers and then ours....The Sky Monkeys with Exploding Coconuts. I believe my alias was The Baron, our keeper was called Friday Night Porno on Channel 5 but I can't recall the other names.
Whats this with Sion? The last I heard they were kicked out and had their appeal kicked out. Are they refusing to accept defeat?
I think you might have called Kezman already Obaka. Not sure if he played well he may have scored or set one up I definately heard his name mentioned on the highlights.
I found the anti-Bob march pretty comical. Interesting to see how it turns out.
RTE just described Rooney as one of the best players ever. Erm....no? Fletcher and Valencia are back tonight, very glad to see it. I think Valencia is easily the best winger in England and Fletcher is still our best midfielder unless Anderson can keep this form up.
Speaking of Hughes he is on Sky's panel tonight. Him, Gullitt and Redknapp junior.
Two legends of the game....and Jamie Redknapp.
One of the best players of his generation. An absolute Man United legend.... and a cardboard cut out.
A man who played in World Cups, Euros, some of the top teams in Europe. A man who played for United, Barca and I think Bayern Munich in Europe........and a man most known for turning up to an FA Cup final in a white suit and taking a shot so woeful that Rene Higuita took the ****** out of it with his scorpion kick.
A man who had an illustrious career with AC Milan winning the CL, several Serie A titles and the Euro's with Holland. A man who won several PL titles, FA Cups and the Cup Winners Cup with United and whatever he won with Barca, Chelsea and Bayern.....and a man who got relegated with Southampton(after being signed by his dad ofcourse).
Two former managers one who won an FA Cup, the other having made Wales almost respectable.......and a Marks and Spencers model.
Yet Redknapp junior still STILL talks over Gullit and Hughes when they are speaking, interrupts them and acts like he knows all about playing in Europe. Does he have any self awareness at all? Does he not feel shame? Does he actually think he can hold court with the likes of Gullit and Hughes? Are Sky taking the absolute ******? Sorry for the rant but I really cannot convey just how much I hate him and how utterly wrong it is that he is a pundit especially when Ruud Gullit who isn't even English has a better grasp of the language than he does.

Hoping to catch the highlights tonight. Should be good after the dross that was the international games.
Sion apparently feel that it is their right to participate even though they played some ineligible players. Not only that, but apparently they want to sue UEFA as well. I do wonder what the rationale behind that thinking is.
Would be interesting to see what happens at the march to get Bob sacked. Still curious about the fans wanting Hughes back. I just can't really see him going back though, not after the way he left Fulham anyway. It seems that he's more focused on the jobs at the bigger clubs. If Venkys really have that much in finances for the club then maybe; but seeing how they've conducted business so far it seems even more unlikely. Allardyce was probably the sort of manager who would have been good for the club.
Rooney's in good form at the moment, so that is bound to sway some opinions when it comes to the greatest players considerations. Best thought about when they've left the club or when they've retired as far as I'm concerned.
No worries about the rant (had a few myself here).
Looks like Man Utd are having a tough game at the moment; a goal down at the time of writing. Er...and Giggs goes and scores as I wrote that last sentence.

I dunno about Venky's I'm of the opinion that they just want a yes man and I'm not sure if Hughes would be that kind of manager. I wonder if they will chant "Goals not Gammon!!" when marching?
I agree only at the end can they be judged.
Did anyone hear Keane at half time with his hilarious southern accent attempting to say the final third but it came out "de final turd"? I laughed hard. Bit of a battle of the keepers at the minute.

Foreign teams often win the Europa Cup maybe they do hold it in higher regard. We need to ask some foreigners but they bleedin' don't like it up 'em do they? All diving ponces who don't 'ave the English spirit, eating pasta and having an education the bloody lot ov them. Two world wars and one world cup. Don't like it up 'em. I'm getting a bit too much into the 'Arry supporting mentality, I want to know what makes them tick and not just that facial tick that their messiah has. I fear I won't ever be able to go back.
Europa Cup? Euro League you meant? That one is dubbed "Loosers Cup" over here in Germany... However, there is still some money to be earned in this cup, and somewhat "lesser" teams, like Hannover 96 this year, are actually happy to play there.
That said, looks like Per Mertersacker did a decent job for Arsenal in the CL, however, I'm still somewhat sad Dortmund (my favorite team, I might add) simply can't score goals this season. Their best attacker, Lucas Barrios, is injured since weeks, and you notice it. At least they made a last minute goal, and got a draw, but still... should have beaten the Gunners.

Posté 14 septembre 2011 - 08:24
The goal Dortmund did score was an absolute ****** though. I still think Hulk's goal last night was the pick of the bunch, theres something beautiful about absolutely belting a football into the top corner. Its a shame UEFA insist on seating too, it takes away some of the atmosphere that Dortmund are famous for by reducing their capacity.

Yeah, heard that from Keane but didn't think much of it as I just put it down to his accent so didn't really think it was strange. (Having discussions regarding the correctness of the English language and that speaking in an accent is not wrong at the moment.)
I was a bit surprised with Man Utd's line-up. I caught the game a little late and couldn't recognize who was in goal. "That's not de Gea" thought I. Lindegaard had a good game from what I saw; seem very reassured in goal. I know de Gea is supposed to be the chosen successor to van der Sar, but Lindegaard did well to throw his hat into the ring for the number one jersey I felt.
Pretty much all draws in from the English clubs though.

Yeah it was Keane's accent but it still amuses me. I'd an ex who talked like that I kept trying to get her to say it because I'm easily amused. Theres an English woman on SSN who's accent befuddles me, she keeps saying coop instead of cup. I've never heard anything like it before.
I figured there would be alot of changes tonight, kinda surprised Berbatov and/or Hernandez didn't start though, Rooney has played alot already. The sooner we get Fletcher and Valencia fit the better. Lindegaard has looked solid any time he played but so did Kuzcak for the most part and Sir Alex didn't give him the chance.
Bit of an uproar about Sir Alex cracking up with Kelly Dalglish questioning De Gea's first choice future. I don't see the problem, he keeps saying he is first choice but the media keep trying to make a big deal about his mistakes ignoring he is a young keeper settling in so why wouldn't Sir Alex be fed up answering the questions? I seem to recall another Dalglish cracking up with Andy Carroll questions, where was the uproar there?

'Coop', huh? I would guess...Glaswegian accent, though I'm awful at identifying accents and just end up thinking 'where do they come from?'
Really have to wonder when Berbatov gets to play again; can't be good for him mentally. It's good that the team has good goalies, provides some competition. Not an easy position to fill really. I'm sure that when Fletcher and Valencia gain match fitness they'll get back down to business.
Yeah, looks like it. Mind you, the same question over and over again can get annoying. It's like when someone just keeps on asking why.

Nah she is definately English, she just has an accent that confuses me. I think she does it on purpose to mess with my mind. Its like the time on Family Guy that Stewie kept saying words like Cool Whip all funny to mess with Brian.
I assume Berbatov will play against Leeds next week. Theres plenty of games left and he is too good a player not to play. I believe he will play a big part eventually, afterall he played a massive part in winning us the league last year a hell of alot more than Rooney did.
Has anyone else noticed several Liverpool players and Dalglish quietly hinting "this year is our year"?
Its nice to see a bit of scandal in the Rugby, where is the moral superiority now? I find it an awful sport but that amused me.

Posté 16 septembre 2011 - 03:53
Hm...mind games. Head hurt.
I remember that Berbatov was left out of some of the games last season; and I think it was mentioned somewhere that he was left out of certain big games. In a sense it seemed to suggest that Ferguson doesn't see Berbatov as a big game player. (It was also pointed out that Park and Fletcher would always play those games if fit by a way of contrast I believe.) I was under the impression that Berbatov would be unleashed on lesser teams to really damage them; much like Ronaldo did when it was thought he wasn't a big game player. The man certainly needs some game time.
I thought they were hinting not so quietly that they could sort of do it this season before the season even started. Then again...well...it seems to be their year so often that it no longer seems novel.
What sort of scandal? I know some suggest rugby is somehow better organized in certain aspects, and somewhat more...presentable, so is it bad?
#2548
Posté 16 septembre 2011 - 04:47
I think he gets left out in big games because we often play one up front or play two with Rooney playing almost in midfield with Hernandez stretching the back four. Berbatov doesn't really fit in to either system but is suited better to a 4-4-2 and is just unlucky with the form of Rooney and Welbeck early on. Berbatov seems to handle it well and I doubt Ronaldo would have handled it as well so we ended up having to play him up front and drop Rooney on to the wing to do the things Ronaldo can't/won't do i.e. track back and tackle. You can't be the best player in the world if your inclusion in the team has a detrimental effect on other players...
Aye but its kind of gone under the radar a bit. Maybe its because I've been stuck about the house and haven't had to deal with many of their fans I haven't noticed it as much. But the last few weeks I've seen Suarez, Carragher, Gerrard and now Dalglish all come out and quietly say it without saying the exact words.
Something to do with the England team on some world cup duty or something and married men being caught on CCTV with strumpets. I think its that guy who recently married a royal is the main one. I generally don't care but I find it amusing since alot of rugby fans claim rugby players and proper gentlemen and better behaved.

Oh yeah. And Blanka needs reassurance from Mancini; the poor thing.
The weekend is almost upon us, and along with it comes a new set of matches to scrutinize. Norwich away to Bolton...hm...given how our matches have played out so far I'm expecting another sending off (deservedly or not). And what do you reckon of Liverpool's treatment by the referee when they travel to Tottenham after all the moaning this week about respect? Given it's 'Arry on the other side I think we're going to lose out either way.

I haven't seen the Blanka tale, whats he require reassurance of now?
That seems a winnable game for Norwich haven't you conceeded a penalty in every game so far? I wonder what the odds on another one tomorrow are. I think thats a good tag line for the Spurs game - Whoever wins, we all lose. United-Chelsea the first huge clash of the season intriguing.
'Arry has claimed he regrets not buying Suarez because he is too similar to Van Der Vaart. I can't be alone in seeing the flaws in that logic.
