I'm guessing there's a player premium on there somewhere when it comes to such accolades. Actually....it really should work the other way round come to think of it.
Saw that sort of swap being bandied about. Seriously? Sounds like a lot of fluff to me. If they are serious then Milan supporters should be somewhat concerned.
Yet referees are never held accountable for their actions. That's what irritates fans and supporters because the decision sometimes doesn't make sense. Only Howard Webb has stood out in front of the cameras to explain a decision. It's fair point that referees only get to see it in real time with no video assist, and most decisions are understandable because of that. The other decisions are just bizarre though.
Indeed he did. I think there was a passing mention of his passing on MOTD2. Also seemed strange with no Lee Dixon there. Here we thought he'd have to sit on the floor when there were more guests....
The tributes have seemingly come from all corners. I think I missed most of the commentary on it and by the sounds of things it seems a touch excessive.
Hm...Kolo Toure claiming discrimination regarding his not playing regularly for Man City. Hm.... Seems like the thing going on around here of late. In truth though I think managers do take into account the availability of their players when it comes to the African Cup of Nations. Certainly for a small squad and you lose an important player during the season then the effects would be devastating. If I had a small team I'd probably err on signing too many African players out of practicality rather than any racial prejudice. How much does a team stand to lose if they finish a few places lower in the league? With football being all business it's not too hard to understand. To me the problem seems to be the scheduling of the competition, probably to avoid the summer heat? And it seems to be held quite often as well. Also...is Toure seriously trying to suggest there's a thing against Man City captains by bringing Tevez into this case? Tevez's situation is completely of his own making judging by what has occurred so far.

I suppose Milan are going to have to find a way to afford the £200k a week wages for a player who may or may not decide to play. But it still seems an unlikely swap at best. Joorabchian says Tevez wants to stay in Europe...closer to family...Argentina...I think they live in some sort of land where nothing that was said previously counts and only what they are saying now has any relevance.
Refs also aren't helped by players reactions claiming every single decision no matter how in the wrong they are and managers blinkered comments after the match putting them under more pressure. Take Dalglish's comments that Liverpool could have had a penalty for Senderos' pull on Charlie Adam last night, well yeah they could have but considering it happened outside the box then what would we make of the ref? He said this while questioning the lack of decisions Liverpool got. I only found out recently that linesmen are only part time unlike refs, that can't really help, surely they should be training as a team all the time?
I avoided African players in football manager because of it, January is when the business end of the season begins. But this is just typical of footballers being unable to accept blame for anything, he was crap against Bayern Munich and from what I've heard not that much better in any of the other games he played. Plus he was suspended for drug use for several months to go with his month away at the ACN. Reminds me of Ince and Barnes claiming racism when they were sacked for being crap managers. Footballers just can't accept responsibility for anything. No idea why Tevez was mentioned, I expect it all to be denied soon.
Suarez is being investigated for giving the finger to Fulham fans. Two investigations at once, impressive.
Do you read F365 often OBaka? They seem to have taken a pro-Scouse bias recently, first when Sir Alex complains about 2 matches in 48 hours he is a moaner but when Dalglish does it he is quite right. Now the FA have nothing better to do so they are just going to investigate Suarez for nothing according to them. Well no, they are investigating a breaking of the rules just like they did to Rooney last season and Adebayor a couple of seasons ago, it might be stupid but you can't have one rule for one team and another for everyone else.
Dalglish was also complaining about Suarez being called a cheat by fans and claiming that if anyone in the media writes that then they will be in trouble, does he mean thousands of moaning letters from Scousers? He can't really complain about Suarez being called a cheat either, there might be others who cheat too but when Suarez does it its bloody spectacular.

I saw one comment suggesting that an Italian or even Spanish move would be more suitable for South Americans due to the approximation of the Latina (?) life style. Makes sense of sorts. Doesn't absolve Tevez for being a bit of a git to put it mildly. Interesting that Mancini is essentially putting all the blame on his advisors. Wonder how they pulled off that stunt of getting Tevez not to warm up in that match. Pre-planned?
Huh. I thought even the refs were part time. Still...it might explain things. And we seem to have refereeing teams now anyway, so it makes sense for them to train as a team. And with players acting the way they sometimes do it does influence the decision; why bother to surround a referee if it doesn't?
In Football Manager it makes little sense when you know a player is going to be away for a crucial time of the season, especially if you're a small team and the player may be one of the squad's best players. They/you can't afford to lose him to the African Cup of Nations. Big teams might be able to depending on the strength in depth of their squad. For some reason this reminds me of Kanoute switching his allegiance to Mali and his club (Tottenham at the time I believe) were less than impressed.
Suarez is making sure that Terry doesn't get all the headlines I suppose. You'd have thought he'd keep a lower profile after the last incident. I suppose he can always try for a hat trick, seeing how he still seems to have lost his scoring boots. Dalglish's reaction is...Wengeresque. Can understand such a stance...
I check it out on a regular basis; the new layout still has me a bit confused at times though (should really be used to it by now). Always something amusing. Still awaiting for the Tevez-Blanka comparison pic meself.
It does seem a bit odd that Dalglish seems to have an air of...untouchability to him? He got away with criticising referees' performances, whereas the mere mention of their performances is usually enough to give the manager a slap on the wrist. Read the stats thing that F365 had, and it's interesting to note that Dalglish is not exactly performing better than Hodgson at this same point last season.
As for the bias...perhaps they want to avoid any more YouTube videos.....
Yeah, read that as well. Suarez isn't exactly endearing himself to many other fans at the moment. Wasn't there a suggestion on F365 that the pictures doing the rounds were photoshopped? Fans shout out some pretty awful things from what I understand, so just shouting out 'cheat' at a particular player is pretty tame by comparison. If it bothers the player in question...they need to be stronger. One thing I admire about Ronaldo after that incident with Rooney was how he handled the abuse and jeering aimed at him the following season; he could have easily left Man Utd back then and taken the easy way out, but he stuck it out and showed a lot of mental strength with that. Had a really good season too if memory serves. Can Suarez do the same is the question.
Some players will cheat when they can; it just depends how well they do it. Though when they fail to do it right it is a source of chuckles.
Oh, looks like Cahill managed to get this red card overturned.

I thought they were part time too because they keep mentioning Howard Webb being a cop too but I've heard complaints that refs are full time and linesmen only part time so I'm slightly confused by the whole thing. I think they believe it puts pressure on the ref for the next decision if they surround him.
I'd only have signed them if they were a bargain and I knew I had a young player or two in the same position who was good and needed games. But even then their time was limited in my team, the young player would quickly become first choice ahead of them if I knew I was going to lose them for a month and had to get their replacement bedded into my team.
Yeah I saw those stats a few weeks ago when they had almost identical records. But Hodgson was everything that was wrong with Liverpool and was clearly bringing the greatest club in the history of the world to its knees with all that money he wasted...hang on...no its still not making sense.
Yeah other players take much worse abuse, Rooney has people wishing cancer and death on his wife and kid in alot of games, Wenger gets accused of things that I won't repeat, theres much worse stuff than being called a cheat that people don't react to. I don't think Suarez even speaks English that well so did he even understand what was happening? The guy is clearly just mental, what way must your head be messed up before you consider biting someone?
It would be diabolical if they let that Cahill red stand. I noticed the SPL have gone back to an incident in a Rangers match, they got a penalty but upon review by the SPL they found the guy to have dived and gave him a 2 match ban. Something the PL could learn from? Phil Jones had a dive in the Villa - United game and it was shameful, it was so inept he clearly didn't practice it.
AVB seems on the verge of snapping too, that rant last night was a bit ridiculous. He may have been trying to build a seige mentality but does talking utter nonsense do that? Some odd seems to be happening at Chelsea, he dropped Anelka and Alex, he won't play them at all but the human disaster zone that is David Luiz stays in the team. So the pair of them hand in transfer requests because they want to be at a team where they play and they get demoted to training with the youth team. That strikes me as a tad odd.

Can't imagine they'd get much time to practice working together if some of them are part time. Pressuring referees is almost standard really; it takes a strong referee to send the other players away and only leaving the captains of both teams to debate the decision as it were (which is the way I'm sure it's supposed to work officially).
Yep. That sounds about right to me. Having a player who goes off during the season means you'll need to account for their absence. Not too bad if they were just a part of the team, but if they are the fulcrum of it though....hm...would any small team take that risk?
Fan logic: Defies actual logic. Can be hilarious at times. Can be scary. Also wondering what the consensus is on Andy Carroll at the moment. Can anyone blame Newcastle for cashing in?
Cheat is very tame by comparison; you're right that others have had it a lot worse. Maybe it hurts more if it's true? I know there are cases in my own life where I wouldn't want to hear the truth because it would hurt a bit too much. There was something in F365 mailbox that characterizes such people who 'retaliate' as 'characters'. I can see why, and it does add to the overall nature of the game. As a professional though one probably wouldn't expect the bad behaviour from them. I think we'd be shocked if we had a complaint with some service we received somewhere, shout abuse, and have it thrown back at us; it's not something to be expected. I'm not saying what they did was right or wrong though, just that it isn't expected. And wasn't Mascherano involved in a biting incident when he was still at West Ham?
The Premier League could certainly learn things from other leagues, doubt they'll change much as it means more work for them. Why interrupt a decent tea break? Also...I don't think we have many decent divers in the league now; not that we should have divers but...oh well...whatever.... Tis an artform lost when Pires left I think.
I had read of the rant, it probably is an attempt to build that siege mentality; though it only really works if external factors are in place, and I don't really think Chelsea are in a position to adopt that particular tactic. Man City on the other hand probably do. I think Dalglish was doing that with all those comments he makes about the fixtures list and refereeing decisions and stuff. In reacting the way AVB has it might just inflame the situation.
As for the player selection....yeah, not sure what's going on there. Anelka I can sort of understand, but Alex is an odd choice to leave out. If they had just handed in transfer requests, with no further explanations and circumstances, I can see why they might get dropped; but since it seems to be a reaction due to the lack of playing time...well...not sure what AVB is trying to achieve there. I saw an explanation about mentality. At the moment it's questionable whose he is referring to.....
Also read that there's a FIFA personnel involved in Tevez's supposed transfer. Wonder if it's because they want to keep an eye on things....

Dalglish has actually complained about something that makes sense, i.e., the FA appealing Rooney's punishment, which has now been reduced by one game. As he states, the FA are supposed to set an example; and by taking that action (always thought it odd anyway) it does seem to open up a can of worms....

Posté 08 décembre 2011 - 07:07
Neymar looks very good from what little I've seen so far, will be interesting to see how he does if he ever makes it to Europe.
I don't think Dalglish' complaint makes that much sense. The FA had the right to appeal and took it, believing they were hard done by, however right or wrong that may be. Clubs have the same right to appeal and can choose wether to take it or not. Maybe I'm reading it wrong but I don't see where he is coming from. To me it seems more like his continuing attempts to appear persecuted and make out Suarez is some kind of innocent victim. Apparently Suarez terrifies teams who can't beat him on the pitch so they try to get at him off the pitch. Obviously it was Fulhams fault he flipped off their fans and they did it after the match to get him banned for the next match...when they aren't playing Fulham. Dalglish is in a bit of a bad position where he can't win, he can't really condemn his own player for whatever reason it is in football you can't do that and Suarez isn't helping him at all. He has to defend the indefensible, fair play to him for effort though.
I've decided to take United going out of Europe as a good thing, it might get the message through to Sir Alex or the Glazers that we need midfielders and we need to pay market value for them and stop pissing on about value for money. I'm not annoyed about the match last night, I'm annoyed about the home draws and the complacency shown. We really need a real world class player or two. Of the three we had, Vidic is still top quality, Evra is no longer the player he was and Rooney can't be relied upon, you just can't build a team around a player that blows hot and cold like he does and with his ability to get sent off and upset team mates with his constant b*tching when things aren't going his way.

More likely to go to the continent if he does. He does seem like quite a nifty player from that. Though his haircut suggests to me that he should be playing in Japan for some strange reason. (Brain not fully functioning today...) Watching that clip though....hm...given the skill some of these players play with, does that mean they are disrespecting the opposition? *Cough*
Just read the FA's response to Dalglish's accusations. If such a route is available then it can be seen why they took that route (though I remember finding the original decision to appeal as somewhat odd as it seems to show a lack of faith in the squad). Re-reading Dalglish's comments...yeah...I can see why it doesn't make sense; memory must be working funny or I saw something different earlier. It looks like that Dalglish was trying to paint the FA as being hypocritical; but since the standards are set by different bodies the actual charge of double standards or inconsistency cannot be upheld. I originally took Dalglish's point to be that when a regulatory body serves a punishment then it should be accepted unless it was plainly wrong, like Cahill's sending off the other day. That point (my interpretation) still has merits of sorts.
But yeah, Dalglish is in a bad position much like Wenger was in years gone by defending his players where he didn't see what happened. That's the one thing that Warnock is rather refreshing about after one incident this season.
Ferguson hasn't really strengthened the midfield much, and given the injuries and the current quality of the players available Man Utd look quite weak in the middle of the park. Be interesting to see if he'll go for a mid-season purchase or wait for the summer.

Personally I don't see it; don't have the finances to see games other than that on free-to-air TV myself. That's beside the point though as that particular competition isn't really seen as quintessential viewing as far as I'm concerned. I'm of the opinion that people over here don't really care about it much...unless they win it I suppose. I don't think there's extensive media coverage over here, though I'm sure one of the satellite companies pick up the games for broadcast.
It's the same here (Germany) - there is no free-TV media broadcasting it at all, and I've not even heard it mentioned in general media coverage. Quite strange, to be honest, because the former Intercontinental Cup got some interest, maybe just because Bayern München and Borussia Dortmund won this cup a few times. But for the Club World Cup there wasn't even a german team qualified yet, so no surprise it get's no attention at all.

I think is generally true about media interest in respective countries as Merci suggests. If one of your country's teams is in it there might be more coverage in the media. Even when Man Utd were in it the coverage wasn't exactly high profile here. I am of the impression that most supporters are rather apathetic towards it.
The lack of coverage also means I haven't the foggiest of who is even participating in it.
Merci, by Intercontinental Cup do you mean what I know as the 'European Super Cup'? Where the winners of the two European club competitions (Europa League and Champions League) play each other? There's more media coverage of that even when none of our teams are in it.

Early morning is another factor. Last I recall the World Club championship was held in Japan? So...wrong time of day, and too far away. Out of sight, out of mind they say (whoever 'they' are). Maybe I'm just apathetic when domestic clubs aren't playing the domestic game....
Rather chuffed that Norwich won at Carrow Road today. It looks all rather hopeful. Hope we can keep it up after Christmas as well.

Just skimmed through all the posts, and it sounds like there is quite a bit of intersting things going on. The club world cup will indeed be held in Japan, and it is an easier transition for latin players to go to Spain or Italy as opposed to say the premier league or the bundesliga, but at the end of the day, I personally think football is football.
I'm on winter break right now, so I will have the time to post a little something on the club world cup if anybody is interested. Will definately catch the Santos matches.
Tevez is going to Milan... another team mate indeed for Ibra to kick lol. Both Manchester teams are into the Europa League. Chelsea aren't looking too bad, and who would have thunk Van Persie would have this kind of resurgence? Anybody know how Tottenham and Newcastle have been doing, amongst other clubs?
One last little tid bit. Anybody get a chance to watch Barcelona Madrid? Barcelona won 3-1, and it was an interesting match to say the least. Both teams played both sloppily and brilliantly. Barcelona was the more erratic of the two, but also the better of the two. However, something seems off though, and its hard to really put a finger on it. Their movement off the ball wasn't as fluid as it seemed 6 or 7 months ago. They weren't the masters of possesion we saw at Wembley. They just didn't seem as sharp as they have usually been. Iniesta played phenominally, but Xavi actually seemed a bit slower today, and he wasn't really a factor. Too many times on attacks they would jam themselves up by not moving well and spreading out just a little wide or behind. Pep should look into that.
Madrid were pretty good, but there needs to be more teamwork. I have seen Ozil in other matches as well, and have to say...what a player! Kaka, a player I have always really liked, wasn't bad either. Their attacks needed to be clearer though, but to be honest I'll have to watch more Madrid games to see what the issues are.
Here are the highlights Alexis' goal...my god. lol
Also, this little known midfielder, Andrea Pirlo, has been absolutely picking apart defenses on Juventus this year. Tell the kids to take note, cause thats how its done hehe

On days with Europa matches (EL, CL) one of the matches is aired live and the rest is covered in an extensive replay after that on free television, as are often the bigger matches in Europa as Barca - Real
The Eredivisie you can only see live on digital (pay) tv but on free tv they do show the highlights of all matches and we have 2 talkprograms about it (one which is great, one which is rubbish)
The world cup of clubs isn't aired here on any channel
(and sometimes I also watch Match of the Day on BBC and Sportshau on ARD for the Premier League and the Bundesliga )
And if I want to watch other matches, I have a really good site I can use

Tottenham have been a somewhat surprise package so far this season; they are currently in third. When Modric wanted to leave and was essentially forced to stay I was thinking that Tottenham are done for, in the same way that Lescott was made to stay at Everton. After that blip, Modric has been playing well and seems to have struck up a good partnership with Parker in the middle as well. I think some have cited that it is the inclusion of Parker that has strengthened the team to this level.
Newcastle have hit a rough patch now, losing a few games on the trot and with the injuries starting to pile up. With their defence so shaky they definitely need players back, or Pardew will be eagerly waiting for the transfer window with some money to make some signings. Could even be a season breaker if they're not careful by the looks of things.
Following kimo...for England:
Premier league highlights on free TV; likewise with lower leagues. The BBC have a deal that allows them to broadcast a few Championship matches during the season. Actual matches can only be seen on pay TV; typically SkySports or ESPN (but mainly Sky I believe).
I think the FA Cup has gone to pay TV as well as it used to be on the BBC. The League Cup (Carling Cup currently) has some matches on free TV with highlights I believe.
Another free TV channel has one Champions League match to broadcast with a highlights package. All else is on pay TV.
Europa League matches are broadcast a bit more on another free TV channel. Unsure about highlights though.
International competitions like the European championships or World Cup can be seen on free TV. I think the government here have made it compulsory that if the national side play at home then the match has to be on free TV, though this only applies to friendlies.
No sign of the World Club championships here though I'm sure it's on pay TV. I do recall seeing the European Super Cup on free TV before, though that might be different now.
Pirlo is a good player as far as I know. Personally I wouldn't consider him little known, perhaps unappreciated. Also...few Italians leave Italy and play for foreign clubs. After Italy won the World Cup it was surprising so many players left for foreign clubs, notably Cannavaro moving to Real if memory serves. I think there was a thing about the best players staying in their league and don't move abroad; it seemed to change that year. Wouldn't surprise me if it's gone back to normal though.
On a side note, we did get Serie A highlights with the occasional match on free TV a long time ago. No longer though for a long while. Shame.

If the FA Cup is on pay television, thats a real shame, because last year's FA Cup was actually pretty entertaining, and it would be nice if they still had at least some coverage for free.
Did you get to see the Tottenham-Stoke City match today obaka? I got to see about 20 minutes today, and you know Stoke looked really good. I think they said Defoe was substituted in, cause he was really running a lot to maintain and regain posession.
Kimo, I'm curious. You said you can watch Match of the Day over there. Do they have a branch for Dutch tv or do you just get the signal over the air with an antenna? It would be cool if you can get channels from, say England,
Germany, and Belgium.
hehe, I was trying to be a little sarcastic there with Pirlo. Maybe I should have thrown in there a wink or something lol. Yeah you know, he went from Milan to Juve over the summer, and I think he is a big part of the reason why they are doing so well this season. You're right, Italians do seem to stay put for the most part, but I couldn't tell you why that is though.
That is a shame they don't have free Serie A matches anymore. Maybe the quality of the top teams is not up to the same level as La Liga or the Premier League, but it makes up for it by having a much more spread out level of play. The football styles are also different, but I tell ya, you never whats going to happen on a given week.
