I wonder how closely Commolli (you're right, it seems he is in that role at Liverpool) works with Dalglish, as he certainly didn't seem to work with Jol at Tottenham. Interesting to see that he has apparently come out and suggested that Liverpool only need minor tweaks to the squad.

The Iron Gerbil, The Copper Rat; what should we name Lampard to fit the theme? I'm thinking something to do with hamsters myself. Do they put things into the coffee, or whatever beverage people in the media like, to sway their judgements? Seems all very strange. I also like The Iron Gerbil's audition for the England job since Capello left.

I think Abramovich wanted Hiddink to stay on or take up that role after his little managerial spell at the club. I also suspect (I'm very suspicious) that Hiddink knows what it would be like to work for Abramovich and probably couldn't do much in the way of improving the club. Abramovich should get Big Mick in.

Sounded like a pretty cracking game Arsenal had against Milan last night. So close yet so far.

Given how Dalglish comes across in interviews I wouldn't want to be working closely with him at all, I'd end up hitting him. I liked how Commolli's comments about only needing to tweak came about 3 days after he claimed that winning the league cup means that Liverpool will be making massive signings now and theres alot of big players out there who are very interested in joining Liverpool because they believe in the project. Bit of back tracking there.

The Tin Hamster? I like how Alex has come out backing Lampard, no way would he be bitter about how AVB sold him...Do you mean The Iron Gerbils audition where he was tactically inept in two massive games and failed to inspire his team at half time in the Arsenal match? Ofcourse inspiring his team is his biggest attribute...hhmmm.

Agreed on both counts, Hiddink doesn't seem stupid enough and it would just be a reputation damaging pay day. Big Mick is the only one who could sort that mess out.

Twas a good game, Wenger is in bother again though for saying things to refs. Apparently Oxlaide-Chamberlain is now going to be one of the best players in the world and an absolutely world beater. He looked good but here we go again...

Just a tad by the sounds of things. Maybe the owners have realised how much money has been spent and can't see the justification of that expenditure (who can?). How much did Aguero cost for Man City?

The Tin Hamster it is. And indeed, those audition matches from The Iron Gerbil. They were very convincing; I'm sure the FA is salivating at this moment concerning those performances.

Will Abramovich manage to handle it? Being overshadowed by Big Mick? Hm....failing that he should make The Tin Hamster the player-manager; that should be fun.

Wenger seems to keep landing himself in trouble this season. As for Oxlade-Chamberlain....to be expected I suppose given how the press works.

I certainly wouldn't trust the pair of them with money again if £100m or so only gets you closer to the bottom than the top. I think Aguero was around £30m-ish. I hear some official body is calling into question Man City's £400m sponsorship deal with Etihad, Real Madrid selling their training ground to the city for £400m and PSG being sponsored by their owners too. Ofcourse nothing will be done because it involves Real.

It looks about perfect for a quarter final balls up, followed by finding a figure of blame.

Abramovich will need two translaters, one from Yorkshire to English and the other from English to Russian.

We all saw this coming I suspect...http://www.football3...r-Handshake-Row Its never going to end, they will never ever let it go...

I'm not sure if I'd trust them with one pence, even back in the day of half pences..... And yes on Aguero, I think that's right (the thought was inspired by a comment or something on F365 about the prices of players; though it does ignore wages). Probably be a whitewash, though Man City could probably claim they consulted the relevant bodies about the FFP. Hazy memory suggests that they got their sponsorship after that consultation. Those sort of sponsorship deals...aside from looking dodgy, if the club isn't actually financially sound then the fall will be all the more spectacular. Actually...perhaps we should be reaching for some popcorn or something.

Sounds like the usual then.

So...Abramovich is doing his bit for the jobs market then.

Oh dear..... There's a particular phrase I'm thinking of when I read that bit....can't be repeated in full here but it has something to do with brains and kumquats..... Come to think of it...the analogy isn't actually very good.

Fc Twente - Schalke 04 1-0
because a falsly given penalty, it was outside the 16 and the analists here are still debating wether he touched him or not. Huub Stevens was furious and he couldn't go inside to watch the screen because Fifa banned that after McClaren did that last week:P

Az - Udinese 2-0.
Pretty impressive seeing the differences between the clubs, Udinese 4th in Italy, a budget a few multiples higher..

O.. I love to listen to Rutten talking (PSV coach), he has been coach for 3 years now and because of that cost PSV all prizes and they want to get rid of him 2 years ago but it was way to expensive to fire him and he always could find some weird twisted reason to explane why he still has a job .But now his contract expires he ran out of excuses why they should not become champion in the Eredivisie so now during each interview he endlessly tries to save himself but failes hopelessly
The lost btw, 4-0 behind, with luck came back to 4-2 against Valencia

Sporting won agains City :D:D, again we see what all that money can buy you

Pretty good day all by all

Brains and kumquats? I think it proves how fake the apology was if they believe that in Anfield.

What do the Dutch think of McClaren, Kimo?

Man City also lost Kompany to injury which could screw them up if its serious. He is their best player.

United were woeful again tonight. Last couple of games we can't keep the ball at all and our attacks look kind of toothless. We miss Valencia breaking at pace too I believe, could be time to bring Berbatov in to help us keep posession. Athletic Bilbao completely outclassed us tonight. I notice Rafael is getting all the blame for the goal, while I do agree he was shocking for it but he was also clearly knackered, he has hardly played 90 minutes all season and had just attempted a couple of long sprints forwards. Why is Jones not being criticized anywhere? Evans went up to head the ball and for some reason Jones went up too, Evans won it flicking it back to him but ofcourse Jones was now way out of position. As soon as I saw Carrick coming on for Smalling I thought "Uh oh, this isn't going to end well." Not because of Carrick, but because Jones was going back to centreback, he's a good prospect but is a complete liability in defence, but ofcourse he's the next England captain and can do no wrong. Evans has been brilliant all season but seems to get no credit, I wouldn't be surprised if he is Vidic's first choice partner next season.

What's interesting is that Johnson states that it wasn't a player decision but a club decision. (The kumquat thing....from a wrestling podcast relating to the hosts' comments on a certain Kurt Angle....)

Mancini liked him enough to make him captain after the Tevez kerfuffle. Their defence seems to be wholly dependent on him and are noticeably weaker without him; a big blow for them.

Ingerlish mentality from the press methinks. Not unusual though not helpful when one wants an unbiased opinion. Be lucky for that actually.

Arsenal did avenge its defeat against AC Milan, but it was not good enough.
Man United lost horribly, to a team that is hardly among 8 good teams of Spain.
Barcelona destroyed Leverkusen in a cloud of shame.

I noted that about Johnson, I could swear Dalglish claimed it was the players decision. Kurt Angle says it all really...

Indeed, it gets infuriating as an outsider when any English player at a big team puts in any sort of decent performance you just know whats coming.

Big turn around at the top, United have slipped past City after winning 2-0 and City lost 1-0. Apparently Young even played well. Pogba played and is alledgedly signing a 4 year contract tomorrow after claims he wanted to stay but his agent is the one pushing for a move. Although Anderson seems to be injured again. Apparently there was a bust up in the tunnel at half time in the Man City game, between Ballotelli and Yaya Toure. Not particularly surprising.

The bottom seems to be getting very interesting too. Could Bob keep Blackburn up? Is it in spite of him or is he pulling off a miracle?

Bloody Norwich slipped up today too with a 1-1 draw at home to Wigan, god damn it, the quest to finish above Liverpool is not beyond the Canaries, they can't afford to be stumbling.

Well, this daylight savings switcheroo is messing with me internal clock...but lets get talkin about some football.

You got me there Obaka hehe. Well, I don't know what kind of position you call it, but you need a Xavi, a Pirlo in the middle to control the match, and I think Gerrard and Lampard might do that well. I haven't seen too much of Lampard, but is his role really different then Gerrard's? Also, a lot of people have been saying good things about Wilshere, so it would have to go from how well they had been looking in practice. Well... I would see how they play togethor during practice, and if there was some semblance of not fitting well togethor and it was more personal then tactical, well I would give them a stern talking to, filled with a good amount of expletives, on how I don't give a flip about their egos. In fact, Lampard's out, and Wilshere's in lol. But seriously though, one thing that Sir Alex and Guardiola do is have a good mix of seasoned footballers playing with the young kids so that they can learn the ropes, and honestly, it seems like the only way to really go about things.

They use hawkeye in tennis, and here is a little video on it from the aussie open. It would be nice if FIFA began looking to the future, at least to see how well this technology can function in football.

So Tottenham last week against Man U weren't too bad, they just had a toothless attack. I saw the first half, and while Tottenham had good possesion, then it came to going forward they were seriously lacking. Tottenham lost again this weekend.

Man U were not bad today, but it really was not good enough for Man U. Going forward I think they needed to be a little bit more organized and a little less selfish. And you're right Druss, I would like too see Valencia as well. I know what Nani and Young are capable of, but Valencia is ice cold when it comes to knowing what to do with the ball, and it would be nice to see him get a start.

Man City played last week as well, and they looked surprisingly tame. Thats when I noticed Silva wasn't playing ;)

The Italian national team managers have got to be some of the most stubborn managers in football. What will it take for them to call up Balotelli and Rossi?

Villas-Boas got sacked, and just like last year....what is Abramovic thinking? Well, its his club, and he can fire people if he wants to. You know, I don't know what owners are thinking when they buy a football club. Trophies and titles take a good team to win, and a good team takes time to develop.

Roma-Palermo 1 0. It was probably one of the most entertaining matches I have seen in a while. Palermo worked so so hard, but at the end never got that elusive goal. However, they deserve to walk with their chins up because I had not seen a team play so hard since Madrid over the summer. They left it out all on the pitch, I don't think any Palermo supporter could feel anything but pride after that match. It seems that Inter are getting a return to form, and Juventus need to step on the gas a little bit. While the title race is between Milan and Juve, the top 5 spots are very close. .... and no wonder Roma play in the Barca style, its because Luis Enrique used to be the manager of Barca B.

So lets talk about Barcelona. Do you guys remember when a while ago I mentioned how Barcelona were not the world class team we were used to watching, that they needed something to click? Well, it happened a week ago in their match after Atletico Madrid. There is no doubt this is the best team that has ever existed in the world. The speed, the guile of their attacks, my god. There are not enough superlatives to describe this team. Some people have mentioned how Barcelona play with a high defensive line, but thats how a lot of the Spanish clubs play. They are already a lot forward, but when they move forward, they move as a team. In Italia for instance, they play with a deep and steady line of four in defense. However, when there is a counter attack or a break away, it is a little more difficult because the forwards are in a mad dash... and they have some serious ground to cover. However, with Barcelona, since they are already so high up, getting to the big area is not an arduous task. I think Puyol and...hmm, is it Abidal (?), they are stationed only about 10, 15 meters from the halfway line. However, when the opponent gets the ball its a. pressure to regain the ball quickly, but b, and more importantly, its running back into their own half to defend. The opponents can't get a break if Barca is in form. Also, they are always in support of their teammates to maintain posession, but something I didn't realize at the time a year ago, is that its also an easier pass for their teammate. When they get in support, they make it easy for them to pass to a teammate, not having to thread a pass through defenders, but a simple pass will do to keep posession. It seems like such a simple thing, but it is very important. Also, during practice, I don't know what specific drills Pep has them do, but they must be drills where the man with the ball is harrased by at least 2 defenders and has to maintain posession. These Barca players will run into traffic and the ball will stay glued to their feet. Today's first goal against Racing, there must have been about 8 players total in the box, and the Barcelona players navigated through the Racing defenders like it was absolutely nothing new to them. And if you give them space, watch out for their cloak and dagger, rabbit hole attacks as Ray Hudson likes to call them, where Barca have the ball and it doesn't seem like an attack yet, and then a player makes a run and the man with the ball time their actions perfectly and like magic, there is a goal. Those kinds of things you have to go over countless amount of times in practice. There are a few other things, but at least on the tactics side that is how they play. Its probably not for the average fan, but its part of the Barca DNA.... do I get a cookie now? lol

Lazio-Bologna 1-3. Bologna must have had a blessing from the man above, because they were just a step ahead of Lazio today. And this is a Lazio team that is not doing bad at all, currently in 3rd place. http://dai.ly/wlRiNN They don't show it, but for the last goal the player took off his shirt in celebration. The classic celebration for a fantastic goal.... it only makes it even more special :)

Ah Napoli...ah dreamy paisans hehe  http://dai.ly/zDn2yt

What a woozy weekend, and not just the football either....

If I were Paul Lambert I would have targeted three points from the home game against Wigan. As such I'm disappointed that we didn't beat them. From what I heard though Wigan played very well and could well have won the game leaving Norwich nothing; and thus I am somewhat relieved. We still need a little more though to ensure we are alive and kicking. Seeing that Swansea beat Man City....there's hope for the rest of the league yet.

It is a big switch around. Is Mancini right in thinking that the derby match will decide the title? From the way Man City started this season I have often thought it would be the team who screw up least that will win the title; I haven't really changed my mind on that. If both teams don't drop points for their other games, then it will likely come down to that one match. Should be interesting stuff. Also interesting to hear so much news concerning clashes and whatnot from the Man City camp; contrast that with what happens (or doesn't) at Stoke....

Relegation battles are always exciting as well come the tail end of the season. Oddly we haven't heard much about protests at Blackburn of late. I'm guessing the media are a bit fed up of covering that? I can't see those who genuinely dislike how the club is ran will have changed their minds.

Gerrard and The Tin Hamster essentially play the same position and make the same runs; they don't complement each other. Add in their lack of team work and indecisiveness when having to play together....I'm sure a sitcom could be made of their shenanigans.

Also nice to see that the Liverpudlian logic has yet to disappear after Dalglish's suggestion that the FA should take action against Wenger for the comment he made about Suarez, because manager's aren't allowed to comment on the England manager position. Makes sense that does. Is this just to deflect the fact that Liverpool are in their worst run of form for...what...nine years is it? A period of time that even Roy Hodgson managed at Liverpool and didn't do worse? I'm sure the Liverpool faithful will forgive him for this poor run of form. Hm... conspiracy.....

Alot of teams might take their foot off the gas now that they are effectively safe, but the higher you finish the more prize money you get.

Really depends on if both teams keep winning. Man City have the harder schedule now and seem to be coming under pressure. Tevez coming back could make that worse or save them from imploding. It's an interesting run in we have.

I think there was a Blackburn protest a few weeks ago, I remember hearing they were planning one. It's not like Venky's listen anyway.

The Tin Hamster or Gerrard controlling a game like Xavi or Pirlo? That would require them to play like actual midfielders and also stop shooting/giving the ball away with hollywood passes. Gerrard's game is all about making him look great no matter what it does to the team and if Lampard doesn't score then what does he do? Even if you spliced them together you wouldn't get a complete midfielder. I would not watch that sitcom, one of them pointing to the sky everytime something good happens and the other frowning all the time and making that whining noise that passes as communication for him.

With that logic shouldn't Dalglish be in bother for talking about Wenger talking about Suarez? I noticed the way the FA worded the warning to managers saying its against the rules to talk about someone contracted to another club. So The Iron Gerbil can talk about any other teams players he wishes to but no one can talk about him?

That is indeed true. A case where points literally means prizes.

I can't really see either team slipping up meself. Though Tevez will be the wildcard in this situation I think. As you suggest, Druss, he could make their season (or even break it).

Maybe they think the protests are because they haven't released their poultry products in the UK yet....

We could pitch the sitcom to ITV; I'm sure they'll take it. *Cough*

Indeed. Funny thing is, I recall The Iron Gerbil mentioning that he didn't get the message. Mind you, he can't read so....

This is going to be a bold statement, but I think Man U have won the title. There is quite a bit of football to be played still, but it just feels like Man U are going to win it. I could be wrong on that though, so I'm not willing to bet on it. Suarez on the other hand seems to have 10 goals in the league compared to Torres' 2. lol Don't worry Druss, I wasn't really going to collect on a 1 pound bet :D

Hmmm, so Gerrard and Lampard are not near the class of Xavi and Pirlo and their play styles don't compliment each other? Right...how much time do England get before the Euro starts to prepare for it? If its at least a couple of weeks, they will be 2 extremely action packed weeks, but I would be determined to get Wilshere and a couple of the other young midfielders you guys have mentioned into learning and practicing the basics of a midfielder who controls the match. Vision, awareness, and concentration to decide where the ball has to go. They might not master their craft, but they need to start learning how to do it the proper way.     As someone mentioned, its not just the precision and inventiveness of the pass, its putting just the right amount of weight behind it which is so difficult.

As I watch some Premiership football, I just think, "These English footballers haven't developed a silky smooth touch!" They say you need to treat the ball like a friend, well, I think you could also make the analogy that you should treat the ball like a beautiful woman. When the ball is in your posession, don't be nervous once you get her. Girls don't like guys that are nervous around them, and when you get the ball, know that you are going to keep her safe. If there are no defenders pressing you, don't be so quick to see her off, after all, she come over for a reason, right? Wait for a teammate to get open, wait for the play to develop, for a gap in the defense or if you're Barca, a teammate to make an under the radar run and then reward him with a brilliant pass. When you are spending time with a girl that you really care about, doesn't it seem like the rest of the world just melts away and you feel like its only the two of you in this current moment in time? That's how you have to be with the ball, and Seedorf is a master at this. You see some teammates, but they're being covered at the moment...thats ok, disregard them for the mo. Oh, but wait, here comes a defender to press! What do you do? If you are a regular guy, and you don't know how to compose yourself at the sight of a challange, what is going to happen? If you get nervous and feel threatened, well, you are going to panic. You are going to make a poor pass, or you might try to avoid him, but the defender is too good looking, and dang, you have lost posession. If you are Messi, Neymar, Ronaldinho, you can tango like the best of them, and she never leaves your side. However, only a few are chosen for that. More likely, you are not so blessed, and will have to make do without. Hope is not lost though! You can take take some dance classes, and it turns out you like to dance salsa. Maybe you cannot tango with the beautiful lady, but you can dance with her a little bit, and more importantly, you can hide her from the defender. A little drag back, a little turn like the ones Xavi and Abidal make, will give the defender your back, freeing you to pass the ball to teammate. They say first impressions are of the utmost importance, and the same is true for football. You are introduced to a beautiful woman, what do you do? If you were a nervous nelly, you didn't look into her eyes, you didn't shake her hand, and you overall made a fool of yourself. However, that is not you! No, you look into her eyes warmly, she feels safe with you, and you take her hand, and you squeeze it a little bit, knowing she will like it, and you repeat her name when she says it, because she will like that as well. And both of you guys are smiling at each other. Its not a fake smile, but a genuine one, because you guys have already seen each other around, and are happy that you finally got to meet each other. Same with the ball. The defenders move up, and here you go, the ball comes to you. Is your first touch any good? Of course it is, because you are Zidane! The first touch is the most important, and you are so used to it, it comes natural like breathing. You stop her instantly. Its not a violent action, she stayed right near your feet, right where you wanted her. Did you recieve the ball with defenders pressing you? No problem, touch the ball into space where you guys can have a little alone time, a little more intimacy. Watch out for the defenders though, they are very jealous guys. They see that you are with a very beautiful lady, and they want their own dance. Not a chance if you can help it, because inside you are confident and know that even though the rest of the guys are ok, none is more interesting to her right then you at that moment in time. Furthermore, you are also not a jealous guy either. Your mates also want a dance, and why shouldn't they? But you're not just going to give her up all willy nilly are you? Of course not! You wait till the song ends, because thet would be abrupt and would break up the flow of the match. A mate has made a beautiful run, you know what to do, the ball is his. Many dancers want to hold onto the girl for just a little bit more, thinking you can make something happen. Its a common trap to avoid, because you know what, your mate is as lonely as the sun in the sky, but only for a few seconds. Don't hesitate to pass him the ball, even if you yourself are not being pressed immediately. He has got a wonderful angle, dont be selfish! (I stress this because its a very common mistake. Too many times footballers will hold on to the football for a few seconds more, and though it only sounds like a little, the line has already shifted, the defender has gotten to his mark, etc.) Remember, you are not jealous with the ball, because you don't have to be. There are a couple of other things...but dang, that has been a lot of writing.

Just one more thing. There is a lot of talk about Guardiola and whether or not he is leaving Barcelona. While I actually am really excited to see him go to another league and bring his style of play to that league, I think he should stay for at least a couple more years. It is no doubt a very stressfull job, but I would urge him to stay for Messi, Xavi, and Puyol. Messi is a special player, and though I'm sure he would succeed anywhere he went, its at Barcelona with Guardiola that I am sure he is fulfilling all of his potential. Kind of like MJ and Phil Jackson. There are so many good players on Barcelona, and Guardiola has this ability to get the absolute best from out of them. Even so, Xavi and Puyol are irreplacable players as well, and because they are still playing at such a high level, I think he should stay for their sake also. He is still a very young manager, but the current squad he has right now is one for the ages, especially one with Messi in it, and he is the only one able to get them to play at this level. He should stay for his players. After two years, if he is still feeling the itch, I think it would not unselfish for him to leave. Remember, the squad with which he had won so much with in his first year was for a large part unchanged from Rijkaard's.

drum roll please .... http://youtu.be/giLB_TIdd1o got another great goal from a Japanese player... no hesitation, just the way it should be :)

edit: LOL just realized how much it was, kinda emberrased. lol

Dear Sir Alex Ferguson,

First off, I just want to say I have always been a huge fan of yours and are amongst my favorite managers of all time. This is why I think you should take me under your wing and teach me how to be a football manager. Reason 1...
...In conclusion, it would be a mentorship where I would be doing the vast majority of the learning, but I understand and know the benefits of the Barcelona style and could help Man U be even better because of it.

Sincerely,
modjospinster

P.S. Football, bloody hell!

And I thought I was wordy at times.....

I've still got a sore bottom from sitting on the fence about who will win the league, but still hanging onto the idea it will the leading team's to lose than win (if that makes sense).

You ever see The Fast Show, modjo? The bit about how to treat the ball reminds me very much of Swiss Tony. "You have to treat a car like a beautiful woman." And the bit about passing the ball....well....due to recent developments over here it's very much a case of being reminded of Engelbert 'Umperdinck's 'Release me'. Where the ball, for all the love the player and ball had shared, decides that someone else is more suited to them as they feel the love has gone from their relationship starts to croon "please release me, let me go...for I don't love you any more...."  *Ahem* Yeah, something like that....

What do the Dutch think of McClaren, Kimo?

Depends you ask really. Almost everyone agrees he isn't exactly a great coach, he has proven that more times than he'dlike but he works at Twente. With him they became Dutch champions for the first time in their history and since he returned they have been playing better and better. They're well on their way of knocking Schalke out of the Europa League.

McClaren is a strange breed. I genuinely don't know what to make of him, he seems like a better assistant manager than manager but you can't deny what he did with Middlesboro getting to the UEFA Cup final and what he's done with Twente. Did the Dutch media ever pick up on him attempting to speak English with a Dutch accent during interviews when he first arrived? We found it pretty hilarious and possibly insulting to the Dutch.

I get the feeling you're going to be sitting when the season is over still saying "It's the team on top's to lose" Obaka lol.

If Torres finds his form Modjo he will catch Suarez. Suarez has to be one of the worst finishers I've ever seen, he is like Emile Heskey on speed. Torres seems to be playing like he is afraid to miss, which in my experience is often a problem caused by your own teammates more than anything. It reminds me of not wanting anyone to really pass to me because I'm going to hear b*tching and moaning if I screw up. Alan Sheared pointed out(yes really) a few weeks ago that Torres is not getting into positions to score goals because he is afraid to miss, I suspect if he had the backing of his team mates they would be encouraging him to get in there and miss if he has to, aslong as he is in there the goals will come eventually. Ruud Van Nistleroy said once about goal scoring that you always have to have the attitude when you miss of "I'll get the next one" instead of dwelling on the miss just focus on the next chance. Its hard to do when you've just missed a sitter to forget about it but its whats needed of a top striker. Its why alot of strikers do better after a fresh start at a new club, unfortunately Torres seems to have brought the baggage from Liverpool with him.

Anyone see Athletic Bilbao vs. Man United? Why is everyone spunking over Bilbao? It was more United were awful than anything, you can't even say Bilbao made them look awful, we just were awful. But it was the same against Spurs and Bilbao in the first leg. I don't know why the media are acting shocked or like it only happened in Europe. Not being able to keep the ball and looking toothless in attack has been going on for a week or two now, we look disjointed, there's no attacking options when we get the ball. I don't know how many times Welbeck and Hernandez have made good runs only for Rooney not to spot them, his goals have been covering the fact his overall play has been a bit dodgy recently. Young completely disapeared again last night, Cleverly was Bilbao's best player. I'd like to see Berbatov brought back in to hold the ball up and link play, I think he is whats missing at the minute until our midfield sorts itself out, I'll be gutted to see him leave in the summer too. Not that I'm taking anything away from Bilbao they did what Spurs couldn't do and took full advantage but they aren't as good as the media are making out. Glad to see Sir Alex was spotting at a Lille game watching Hazard play.

Text book stuff from The Iron Gerbil today, Spurs are now over achieving after he claimed they could win the league only a couple of months ago. I think they are overacheiving considering they have an inept manager. He was also tapping up Edin Hazard via the media, talking about an employee who is under contract to another club. I could swear there was a letter about that only a couple of weeks ago...I expect all this will be in mediawatch tomorrow anyway.

Chelsea continue to disgust me...

That may well be true of some people; good at assisting the manager but not being in the position themselves. McClaren might be one of those, though the way in which Middlesborough reached the UEFA cup finals back then was pretty impressive considering the start of the domestic season for them. Wasn't it that season he had a ticket thrown in his face after some poor performances?

I should just stick that line in my sig.....

Torres has yet to finish his little Kinder egg toy collection, and Chelsea have proven unable to help him in this respect. I remember Shearer saying something like that a while back. Misses are bad, but if he's willing to make those runs, and the less he does it the more I wonder if he can even make those runs any more, and hits the ball; the more chances he has the more likely he is to score. Basically, play the percentage game which he has essentially opted out of doing. Some are suggesting (again) it's a psychological thing with Torres; he's been in this slump for way too long.

Missed most of the games this week. I almost suspect the Manchester clubs threw the Europa League away.

Hazard is again gaining attention. The Iron Gerbil received the memo but he can't read it. Either that or he doesn't think it applies to personnel outside of the FA's jurisdiction.

I think it was, also the season he got booed for trying to waste time and play for a draw at home against Blackburn or someone.

Well it could well be that way if City fail to beat Chelsea tonight. Tevez is apparently set to be on the bench.

Indeed, it could be the case that even when scoring again the slump will always be in the back of his mind and any miss could be devastating. Maybe his two goals at the weekend will set him off again though.

I think United just thought they would get away with playing that bad and still go through. It worked against Spurs, hopefully thats the slap in the face we needed. Dunno how the hell Rooney got man of the match against Wolves, until we were a goal and man up he did nothing but give the ball away. We watched him and only once did he find a teammate with a pass up until that point. What does Valencia have to do to get man of the match? Didn't see much of the other games myself, was still in ME3 depression lol.

Someone else was at the tapping up there in true Iron Gerbil fashion but I can't recall who.

Am I alone in thinking the whole Muamba thing is getting out of hand? I hope he recovers and all but they were going on as if Spurs might not be able to play incase they all have heartattacks. Because it happened one guy in over 1000 matches? Does everything have to be a massive drama now? Was the guy almost dying not drama enough?

Tough times for McClaren back then. Others have done worse. Maybe one day he'll get another go at the England job....

Ah...extra MOTD tonight. Probably miss that due to other commitments which aren't ME3 related, but will keep an eye on the news so to speak.

Hm...I'm guessing it's the English premium at work again. "Look! An Englishman playing OK. Let's give him the man of the match award. Doesn't matter if someone else actually played better, they won't notice."

Glad Muamba is OK now, it seemed really touch and go when it started. I think we've gone over this sort of thing before about medicals and how these things apparently get missed. I think Mancini said something like we could do with a better screening process, and what we already have in place here is better than that in Italy. Which makes Italy sound quite bad in that department. I suppose in such things there is an onus on the player to keep a note on their body as well, but with Muamba and others who actually died it seemed to come out of nowhere; that's pretty hard to deal with.

Seems Twente are fourth behind AZ, Ajax and PSV. Dunno if thats considered success for McClaren or not.

He wasn't even playing ok for around a third of the match. Football media is a bizarre place.

Speaking of which Liverpool MD Ian Ayre is on SSN now in the studio giving an interview for unknown reasons. It's stomach churning watching them dance around the whole Suarez thing, grill him damn it Jim!

Indeed, the extra checks and all are fine. But all the drama thats been thrown in with it, SSN last night had an anouncement that Muamba laughed. Considering he was previously talking in two languages and able to move his arms and legs, I assume laughing isn't a giant leap forward. Today came the anouncement that the Spurs-Bolton game WILL be replayed as if it was ever in doubt. Its like the whole Gary Speed thing, the media raping a tragic story until you're more sickened than sympathetic. They had a doctor on saying that you can't predict sudden things like what happened Muamba so the extra checks aren't needed, that seems to have gone largely ignored.

Twente is third, they still had a match to catch up.
McClaren started out strong but recently made some stupid mistakes and now Twente is paying for it.
At the Schalke away match he didn´t select the best players to spare them for the more important match in the Eredivisie (against Feyenoord) while they still had a chance of advancing to the next round (they won 1-0 at home). They gave that match away, 4-1 after leading 0-1.
Then they lost the match against Feyenoord, the reason the best players were spared, hopelessly. They still have chance to become champions, since everything is so close here so any more screw-ups and they will end up emptyhands: Posted Image

With 8 matches to go 6 clubs still can win and no team below 7th place is safe from relegation

The whole situation with Muamba is tragic but it is to much drama, but  what do you expect with famous people, they stand above us normal folks. I read he was technically dead for 78 minutes and that they tried to revive him 16 times with the defribilator before he arrived at the hospital. When a normal person would get an heartattack, good chance they won´t try to revive him/her for 78 minutes.

It's funny that we can make that sort of mathematical calculations depending on potential points from the remaining games. Was doing that earlier with the relegation teams in the Premier League and....well....only 7 teams are truly safe from it.

Glad that Norwich are back to winning ways; a step closer to safety.

Things seem to be in Man Utd's favour in the league now with Man City drawing against Stoke. (It's Man Utd's to lose!)

Tottenham and Chelsea...that draw didn't help either team really.

Also interesting to see Liverpool continue their form in the league. With a loss against Wigan. I suppose they could claim they didn't lose to the bottom placed team.... Question is....is there any major outrage from the fans? Dalglish is currently overseeing the worst Liverpool have played for almost a decade, and they don't really seem capable of putting a decent run together. Perhaps Liverpool just are better in cup competitions, but is that enough to placate the fans?

Resting your best players with a bigger game coming up seems to come back to bite managers in the ass an awful lot. That is tight at the top in Holland, I haven't seen a title race that tight in a long time.

I read a comment on F365 earlier in their story about Dalglishes latest claims(apparently that wasn't a handball) from a Liverpool fan that they were fighting off relegation when Hodgson was incharge but they aren't now. Delusional much? I'm seeing more rumblings of Dalglish out, be interesting to see what happens if they go out of the FA Cup. I think they are just lucky in cups rather than better.

Interesting day for Holt yesterday...Cisse isn't endearing himself to Mark Hughes either and Joey Barton continues making an utter prat of himself on Twitter.

Hopefully United can find a bit of form now and put a bit of distance between us and City. Having Valencia back is a massive boost, he has to be our player of the season.

Did I already mention The Iron Gerbil claiming Spurs have overacheived and therefore he is great? The same man who was claiming they could win the league two months ago.

Crouch's(I'm realising I suck at pluralizing names and possibly at spelling pluralizing) goal yesterday was an absolute ******. As were Baines and Arteta's freekick's.
