Hm....wouldn't really call it a rant after seeing it. Probably more...bravado I guess. And talking about business when drunk...not a good idea. I'm with you in thinking that perhaps it's a bit unfair on him. Certainly if this happened last year why not reveal it then? Why wait until now? The timing is odd and...there's a sense of straw clutching I feel. Any excuse as it were. Still depends on Venky's though...
De Gea has certainly grown as the season went on. Expecting even better from him next season and more consistency. As for Hazard....already stated he'll be in Manchester. If he is a mercenary as suspected, then basically he's playing both teams to come up with the most in terms of wages and bonuses before deciding. If it's a battle of money....I think we'll know where he'll end up. Also just read that Owen is now gone from Man Utd as well.
The transfers certainly didn't help. And I guess it didn't help Dalglish when he made the claim that the players were his signings after Comolli was dismissed. I appreciate the honesty of him saying that, but it was something that he perhaps didn't need to voice. Results-wise though....it seemed to be the only decision FSG could make really. The candidate list is growing in the media; read somewhere that AVB was contacted and ruled out (or unlikely to be the preferred choice).
Blanka lives in his own little world; more so than Bob at this rate.
I recall the 'homegrown' rule being a lot more...vague. Things about their age when they joined the club and stuff. Again, it may just be one of these things that are forgotten. I'm still puzzled about the taking of penalties (I thought takers weren't allowed to 'stutter' their run) and occasionally the backpass rule as well.
Had a look at Man City's website (yeah, I know) and there are quite a few out on loan. Forgotten about Michael Johnson as well. Don't know about their youth players as the senior squad didn't seem to have that many out on loan. Still...homegrown and all that, I have no idea what's going on.
Yeah. Here's hoping for a Lambert stay. Read that Lerner is going to head the managerial search and whatnot.
Did you read the reason as to why Carrick was left out? Sounds sort of similar to Robinson but not as vocal and didn't throw a strop and retire. Walcott is clearly better down the middle. Question is whether even Wenger will have him play there, especially with Podolski going to Arsenal now.
With Gerrard being made England captain I guess we'll have to guess who will partner him in midfield. Just hope Hodgson is sensible enough to leave Lampard out if being captain is a sure starting place.

I was wondering about why its only come to light now too. Strange timing. Apparently he's talking utter crap too because Jones was discovered before Bob even arrived at the club. It was in mediawatch the other day.
I feared we would be offering Owen another contract, be intresting to see which club gets seduced by his brochure. I wonder if he's updated it. I suspect Hazard has already signed for City and dragging it out is their way of trying to big up getting one over United or he's using the whole thing to get more money. I don't see us getting into a bidding war. For some reason there's alot of rumours we've already signed him but I don't buy it.
They have been given permission to speak to Martinez and the scousers are up in arms already, he should know better than to take it given what happened Hodgson. They seem to think they are getting some world class manager for some unknown reason. Brendan Rodgers turned them down, the Swansea manager doesn't want to take a step down.
How long until Blanka is hating on City again? Wasn't he filmed laughing at their exit from the Champions League?
Maybe I'm being confused by football manager but I thought it was something like being trained at the club for 3 years before the age of 21 or trained in the country for the same period, they need a certain amount of both. Hence alot of teams scrambling for English players this last few years. Yes! The penalty stuttering rule, whats up with that? Is it allowed or not?
Solskjaer has been interviewed for the Villa job, cheap option or thinking outside the box?
I read a vague explanation about Carrick not wanting to be a sub. Seem's fair enough, first choice in the United team that made it to the CL final a year ago, won the league last season and finished runner up this one but can't get in the England team that's done the square root of nothing.
I've got a bad feeling about this...
SSN were reporting that Grant Holt handed in a transfer request, then like 40 minutes later that Norwich had rejected it. Thats a strange one, further details will be interesting.

Yep, the penalty run-up stutter has been outlawed. Once the players starts running, he cannot stop. It got this guy into trouble.
England at EURO 2012 looks quite tough. France are a great side ATM and have soughted out a lot of the problems from 2010 (i.e. they now have a competent manager). Ukraine away will be tough and Sweden are no mugs either.

Heh* It was somewhat amusing to see Brendan Rodgers turn down the chance to even speak to Liverpool about the vacancy. Swansea fans are going to love him to bits for that. Still...this shortlist Liverpool have at the moment...well....no slight to those mentioned so far, but given the calibre fans expect.....
I'm sure he'll start missing his family again some time and want to retire from football and all that sort of kerfuffle again next season. I think by now that even Joorabchian knows that whatever tactic they have used before to angle for a move just won't work with Man City because of the personal wealth of their owners.
I think that sounds about right with the homegrown player thing. Still a bit vague really, and just encourages cherry picking younger players away from home perhaps as well.
As for the penalty stuttering....bFootball suggests it has been outlawed, which is what I would have thought. Contrary to that, did you see the penalty shoot out between Chelsea and Bayern Munich? Schweinsteiger clearly stuttered and did not get penalised. Again, inconsistency regarding a supposed banned practice. That's the issue we as supporters have with the rules and referees; the sheer inconsistencies of the application of the rules of the game.
It would be considered a success if England make it to the knock-out stages I feel. Sweden have long been a bogey side for England.
So...West Ham are back in the Premier League next season. Hm....
A bit of both? Though further to that initial thing it seems that Solskjaer won't be taking over at Aston Villa. (Still hoping for Lambert to stay at Norwich.)
Yeah, as I mentioned as least he didn't throw a strop like Paul Robinson and retire from international duty. Still a shame in a sense, and....surely there are better midfielders this season than Henderson surely?
Indeed......
Does make me wonder. And the timing as well, so soon after the end of the domestic season. Makes me think something is up. Perhaps a ploy for a better contract, or is genuinely angling for a move elsewhere.
EDIT: of course there is Chelsea's victory
over Bayern Munich as well as I waffled on other things.... Drogba had
an interesting game to say the least, scoring the goal that won it for
them. Much as his attitude can be questionable at times, when he plays
properly I think he's been the best striker in the Premier League for a
while now. Ashley Cole was immense for Chelsea for that match. The one
time he didn't defend correctly Bayern Munich score; that was the sort
of game he played. And with the players backing di Matteo wins the big
one (at club level anyway). Be surprised if Abramovich won't sign him as
manager next season. Would not be surprised if he is made manager and
then sacked within two seasons. Bayern Munich must hope they never meet another English team in the final of the Champions League ever again at this rate. Probably disappointing that you can't play in the final held in your own stadium, but to lose in the final at home....ouch.

You saw the match then Obaka? After that I take back my statement about wanting to see Robben at United, I'd end up hunting him down and looking to beat him to death with his own leg if he played like that for us. Imagine how good Bayern would be if he actually passed the ball when in the final third or delivered anything from set plays. Ribery was almost as bad, Gomez was shocking. Schweinsteiger was the best player on the pitch by a mile though, he was everywhere, felt bad when he missed that penalty. Ashley Cole gave a big performance but Lampard may aswell have not even been on the pitch. How pathetic was it that Terry put his kit on to get his picture taken at the end? I suppose we all knew it was coming but seeing him actually do it was...cringeworthy at best.

Great stuff by Chealsea.
Funny thing is I had a dream about Chealsea winning the final, against Bayern, in penalties, a long time ago, a couple of days before they had their first match against Barcelona. The cool thing is I actually really told the guys at work the next morning. I told them Real Madrid and Barcelona were going to lose, because I had dreamed Chealsea would win the final. Everybody laughed of course, me included, and someone told me to bet some money on it, which I didn't do, of course.
Still funny. Things like this is what makes people superstitious.
Should be some interesting talk on Monday.

Yeah, Druss, I saw the vast majority of the match. Lampard put in a shift, don't think he was exceptional but he did a job. It could have gone very wrong for Drogba having equalised then gave away a penalty. I didn't see, or certainly don't recall, Robben taking many long shots on goals. In previous games I've seen him in he always seemed dangerous when shooting from range. Bayern seemed quite muted in attack even given their attacking intent.
As for Terry putting on his kit....well...I found it amusing when watching him get his hand on the trophy to lift it that he got crowded out by the others and you couldn't see him. Sort of worked out in a way....
So...the Euros to look towards now. And all the gossip and transfers. Should be interesting. McManaman suggesting that the Liverpool appointment needs to be realistic; that will go down well. *Cough*

Ah craaaaaap!
Chelsea is so lame to be the champion of Europe!
Bayern Munchen's manager shouldn't make his first substitution. The injury of Ribery was also quite unfortunate.
I call this year's tournament sheer nonsense!

And Chelsea won...
It was more interesting to watch than against Barcelona but it's not good for football that Chelsea won with the 'modern' football they play.
The hope and saviour of the Dutch team once again showed that he can't perform under pressure.. I fear for the European Championship this year...

Robben was shocking, he had something like 15 or 16 shots and yet never looked threatening. There was one point in extra time when he had two men unmarked in the box but chose to blast his shot over the bar instead of passing to one of them. Every set play he delivered was woeful, most of them didn't even get past the first man. I agree Kimo, if he is someone the Dutch rely on then I'd be scared, because he bottled it last night big time. Greedy and wasteful.
The only thing I can remember Lampard doing was being made to look like he was trudging through mud when running after Robben at one point. Schweinsteiger bossed the game from start to finish, I thought he was immense. Always closing down, always in the right spot and always available for a pass.
Apparently Terry even put shinpads on...
Spurs are out of the CL now too, kind of added an extra layer of comedy to the whole thing. Will Modric and Bale be off now?

Big game bottler is Robben then? If he is considered the fulcrum of the national team, supporters had better hope he can manage to turn it around in time for the Euros. Not sure what can be done for the selfish aspect of play though...
Schweinsteiger played well. Seems to play well whenever I see him anyway. I guess that makes a refreshing change.
That's what I read. Perhaps he needed the protection...
They are indeed out of the Champions League. All that for...nothing in a sense. And The Iron Gerbil will throw away the Europa League next season as well. Not sure how that's will attract a calibre of better players to the club if they can't be bothered to try for it.

We had the Big 4: Robben, Sneijder, Vd Vaart and Persie who had to do it 2 years ago. Now Robben has become more a liability than an asset, van Persie still can't play in our national team and although Huntelaar has improved he will only play if van Persie doesn't play and the new other new players are good but not as good as the big four from 2 years ago.
Both De Jong's are good players (Siem and Luuk, not Nigel), as is Narsingh and Maher
is the revelation of this season, while only 18, but they aren't as experienced as the 'big four' from 2 years ago
So our offense and midfield has gotten a bit worse (even if just because of the lack of experience) and if we can draw one conclusion from the practise matches in the last months it is that our defence is almost non-existing

That does sound like a disappointing state of affairs, Kimo. Console yourself knowing that England are in worse shape....(as far as I'm concerned anyway).
Interesting point there, Jet. Tottenham did finish in the top four, which in itself is an achievement; and under normal circumstances they would be in the Champions League next season. So...will players use Chelsea's victory as an excuse to leave the club? Hm......

I saw the beach ball. I was half expecting the ref to make them take the penalty again because of when it was lobbed on. Speaking of which, didn't a few of the penalty takers in the shootout stutter their runs? Edit: Just realised Obaka already pointed out the stuttering penalties.
Well both English and Dutch fans can console themselves that Chelsea proved you can win things while being by far the inferior team in almost every match you play. Anytime I've seen Huntelaar for Schalke and for the Dutch against England he has looked excellent.
If I was Abramovich I'd sack Di Matteo. Getting lucky in a couple of matches doesn't make a good manager, he's going to sack him anyway and may aswell do it now before handing him a big contract. Can anyone really say that he got it tactically right against either Barca or Bayern? The amount of chances and posession both teams had, Chelsea could and should have been battered.
I'd say another Modric transfer request is incoming and the saga will begin again.
SSN are now claiming Hazard wants to go to United above City, the whole Chelsea link is apparently coming from a made up quote on twitter and all the news places are running with it. I wish we would hurry up and sign Kagawa if we are signing him to make it all less of a tease. I also hope Berbatov finds a team that appreciates him.
Anyone see Blanka making comments about the Falklands? He was making claims about him, Aguero and Zabaleta winning the league in England is some sort of victory for Argentina over the English I think.

It's not often referees make players retake a penalty. As clearly seen in the Champions League final they care not a jot regarding the stuttering run-ups. As such, we are still unclear whether the rule is actually mandatory or not. The governing bodies really need to make it clear to the referees...
With that in mind I am now half expecting England supporters to harp on about becoming European champions with 'Three Lions' blaring in the background and the chants of 'Ingerland' ringing around stadiums....
They should have been battered heavily but weren't. Chelsea were very fortunate it has to be stated, and they took their chances well when they came along. Basically, Chelsea just weren't as wasteful in front of goal as their opponents even if they spent most of their matches defending. While attacking football is great to watch, I have to admit I do like the defensive displays as well (back when Serie A was on Channel 4 it was much appreciated). Might just also be because whenever I played footie as a lad I was stuck in defence. Chelsea needed their players to contain the opposition, and it's luck that their players managed to contain them that well (again, Ashley Cole was immense for them); and had they slipped up more often then Chelsea would have lost. Whether di Matteo is actually tactically astute enough is, of course, debatable. Maybe the fact he didn't antagonise the senior players meant they would suddenly discover their form to play that well. There seems to be less furore over the Chelsea managerial appointment though.
Looks like that will be the case. Interesting when players suggest they'll think about their situation after so-and-so. What is there to think about when your contract is still ongoing? Very odd, but football does operate in its own little world.
Getting bored of the Hazard thing already. Just go somewhere for crying out loud.
Berbatov could really do with a run in a team. Man Utd just didn't use him. I would have thought that Ferguson would have at least used him in a destroyer role against the weaker teams in the league to 'guarantee' victories; you know, like the way Ronaldo destroyed the weaker teams. He has noted it has been frustrating for him, which is understandable. Which reminds me. See Torres' comments about his Chelsea 'nightmare'? I think I see a large ego looming.....
Can't state I have, though....well...Blanka; that pretty much sums it up for me. How does he account for the presence of Hart, Barry and Lescott? Oh well....
Hm....Holt's transfer request: starting to sound like a Torres-esque 'promises were made' scenario.....

Football, eh?! Wowee. I'll have to admit, i saw the first couple of minutes of the champions league final, went to take a nap and then woke up expecting to find out who won. Surprise surprise, extra times were just about to begin
Good on Drogba, good on Chelsea. Btw, Mata looked super nervous when he was going to take his penalty, and I predicted he would not convert it. But really, this was a Chelsea team that a couple of months seemed like they were going nowhere this season....and look at them now, champions of Europe! lol Can you believe it?
Man City winning the title on goal difference, on the last day, in the final minutes of the match.....who would have thunk it! They sure slipped for a while, but no doubt the turning point came when they beat united. United always have a knack for winning matches by a goal. Nothing fancy about their play, but they get the result, but credit to City, because they hung in there even when Man U took first place for a while. hehe They even made shirts celebrating Man U as the title winners...have to return those now or donate them...or send me one, I'd wear it lol Sour grapes for Tottenham though, because they won't be in the Champions next year..and they deserve to be.
Ahhh...and you know what guys, a similar thing happened in Italy with Serie A. Juventus slipped a lot. Though they didn't lose any matches, they were drawing too many matches if they wanted to stay as contenders in the race. Lo and behold, former Juventus man Amauri scored two for Fiorentina against league leading Milan, and that gave Juventus a chance to get back in it. They won it on the last day as well if I am not mistaken. Juve lost the Coppa Italia to Napoli, and I think it is fair because Napoli have played very well this season at times...and at others they just seem very average. It was Del Piero's last game for Juve, and tbh, I didn't like how the manager handled Del Piero. He can still play, he just now has to be more stationary up front as he can't run as well as he used to now. Also, to be perfectly honest, the forwards Juve have are not even world class, and Del Piero is.
Are they seriousy considering resigning Benitez at Liverpool????? Well, its their club, and they can run it how they want to lol.
I have been meaning to bring up this super striker Falcao up, and am finally doing rite noooooow hehe. He plays for Atletico Madrid...and I mean, for the last couple of months, he has just scored one beautiful goal after another. After watching this latest one, I got down to me boxers and ran around the house, thats how much i liked it haha
...
I think Berbatov leaving is very fair. He wants to play, let him play. In fact, I would also like to see Chicharito go to another club! Thats right. Man U has a lot of good forwards, and playing time is soooo important for the youngins. May I suggest an Italian club
))) Or even Chelsea...i heard a spot just recently opened up hehe
Torres wants to feel instrumental, like he is needed at a club, but quite frankly on these big clubs, there are better and more able forwards. Big ego...perhaps, but you have to remember, there are only a few years you can really play football before you get too old.
And whats going on over there with the olympic flame relay? hehe
And the match that nobody wants but has to be played just begun; Bayern Munchen vs The Netherlands
It would have been a great match if Bayern had won the CL, now Bayern probably won't have a shred of motivation and Van Marwijk will use it to test the young new players
Edit:
Bayern 1-0..
and before I could press submit Huntelaar makes 1-1
And 2 minutes later Narsingh makes 1-2 for The Netherlands
I started so I have to continue, 28 minutes in and its 2-2
It ended in a 3-2 win for Bayern in the 88th minute. The first half nobody wanted to risk getting injured so all players had space enough to move in and get some goals and the second half nobody wanted to get tired so nobody walked anywhere. The idea to solve the whole Robben argument with a match was a good one but not at this time, right after the CL final and right before the EC.. really bad timing..

Well we are officially in international season with the friendlies all being played this weekend. I've been trying to take a break from football for a while because it was making me increasingly bitter with all the nonsense going on but I seem to have failed.
Eden Hazard has made his mind up where he's going and will anounce it today. I'm sick of him, I hope he doesn't go to United and he flops or he chooses us but Sir Alex pulls out of the deal because of how he has gone about it. He's also claiming its all about football, what position he will be given, playing time and who else the club signs. The first three are fair enough but who the hell is he to dictate who the club signs? Are they going to tell him their targets then he signs for their rivals and reveals these targets to them? Then he claims Chelsea are in the running and a big possibility, how can they make any sort of promise if they don't have a manager and have Mata playing in the position he wants for himself? Given his statement, we seem the best option for him but I suspect we are offering the least money and thats what its all about.
Goal line technology is being tried this weekend in the England - Belgium game. Should be interesting.
Mike Dean said he should have sent Tevez off in the Joey Barton incident too and he would have if he saw it. He said this to the FA...Tevez isn't being punished...
Edit: Alot of bookies have suspended betting on Hazard signing for Chelsea. Lots of rumours that he hasn't decided at all and infact United and City have pulled out because of his demands and agent fee's, the agent is apparently demanding £6m. Just rumours but given how this has gone so far, entirely plausible.

Yeah, international season is underway. Feeling somewhat ambivalent about it all. I am interested to see how England will play with Hodgson as manager and yet I didn't feel compelled to actually watch their performance against Norway. Oh well....
The words 'flying' and 'monkeys' comes to mind with respect to Hazard's approach to his potential new employers at the moment, as in "I don't give a...." What if he ends up going nowhere? (You know, that might be funny.) It has sort of struck me that an agent's role is rather odd. How many clients does an agent have on their books? I mean, it seems that other than the original contract negotiations there isn't much else they do for their clients (unless they act as some sort of personal assistant....); and if contracts were honoured (unlikely in this day and age) then they won't have any work (i.e. income) from that client. It's probably not so surprising to find that agents then stir things up just so they do have more income.
Goal line tech will only aid one part of the referee's job. Still won't help with tackles and stuff. At least there shouldn't be any cases of a ball not crossing the line and a goal is given.
Yeah, read that earlier which prompted me to pop in. So by the FA's admission it would seem no match official saw what Tevez did to Barton, and by their own rules they can retrospectively act. They choose not to. What the?!? So the FA just decide to pick and choose who will be punished? Next time a player is retrospectively banned their club should cite discrimination or accuse the FA of blatant inconsistency regarding the rules. It is just ridiculous.
Just read that Jagielka has been called up to replace Barry. Though I still wonder why he wasn't in the England squad in the first place. Interesting to see F365 point out that Henderson, the player on standby, was bypassed. I do get the feeling that Jagielka has played in midfield before though.

Indeed, I ignored the international friendlies. Ended up watching the league 1 playoff final, the penalties were tense to say the least. I watched that socceraid nonesense on ITV last night too, purely to see Keane, Staam and Van Der Saar gracing Old Trafford again and hope Keane and Stam eliminate some celebrities. It was going well until Keane got injured. Gordon Ramsay was stretchered off, but I reckon he was making a meal of it...I'll get me coat. It seems a bit ridiculous that if all those people pooled some cash they could easily raise alot more than they got from asking the people suffering through a recession for. Is that just me?
I'd laugh myself stupid if Hazard wound up stuck at Lille. He's playing in the bloody French league, its not like he's been tested at the highest level. I'm holding out hope for us signing Kagawa, not really bothered about Hazard anymore except watching him pull a Tevez claiming it wasn't for the money. Apparently Hazard is his agent's only client too. I'm not sure what the role really is, I got the impression it involved alot of day to day stuff like managing public appearances, sponsorships, buying a new fridge and moaning about money.
Indeed. Blatter also wants an alternative to penalty shootouts. SSN tried to paint this as anti-English because Chelsea won on penalties against Bayern...Penalties can be quite the spectacle but they really aren't a fair way to decide things I suppose.
I'm baffled by it, I really don't get it. 12 game ban for Barton but nothing for Tevez who also was violent towards Barton? It's insane. Also given how Tevez performed on the last day(absolutely dire, he couldn't hit a cows arse with a banjo) and the fact he should have been sent off, he really bottled it. Which makes his celebrations even more ridiculous, almost John Terry like.
You echo my sentiments. I assumed Jagielka actually was in the squad, then it occurred to me that Phil Jones is centreback cover, oh dear. He has alot of potential but for me hasn't shown anything even close to hinting that he is ready for an international tournament. If he wasn't at United he wouldn't be in the squad. Really shocked Jagielka wasn't in there from the start.
Just saw some of Huddersfield's celebrations on SSN for being promoted. What's it like as a Norwich fan this summer? Missing the euphoria of last summer or is doing well in the PL an even better feeling? The whole promotion thing is a strange one for fans I assume.
