Both countries are hosts of world-cup for the first time; Qatar is far better than Aussi-land! and Russia is a good choice too.

I like the idea of the world cup in Russia. In Soviet Russia football plays you.
Sky Sports News has turned into comedy gold. They have been declaring England favourites since yesterday and are now up in arms because they didn't win, they are even talking about an inquest. Its like the world cup allover again. Thank god this is over now though it was disgusting watching the politics at work.

In no way I still thought England as an favourite, the most likely was objectively Russia (for me Netherlands/Belgium ofcourse)

England didn't even survive the 1st round and in the second round we got 2 votes, Spain/Portugal got 7 and Russia 13

But with Qatar we still have some succes since Ronald de Boer lobbyed for Qatar

Exactly Kimo. The media still can't accept that not only did they not win but they were never favourites. They are acting like a guy who convinced himself a girl loved him when infact she was just being polite and now the guy can't understand what happened.

I was wondering why Ronald de Boer looked so happy and why he kissed that surprised looking fat man on the lips lol.

Sad times, I was really hoping for some world cup action in my backyard for 2022 :(

Oh well, maybe by 2018 I'll have money and can go visit Russia to see the world cup.

Anyone else see Liverpool destroy Aston Villa? Granted Villa were pretty weak, but Liverpool managed to string together some outstanding plays and dominated for most of the game. Good to see such a good result without Torres, Gerrard or Carrager!

My bet is on the not-European Inter.

Do the South American teams take the Club WC seriously or just think of it as a distraction? Theres mixed feelings about it here.

@ Darthnemesis2 I saw the Liverpool game but I put the result down to a mixture of luck and voodoo. Liverpool look a better team without Gerrard you know. I've been saying it for years he takes away far more than he gives to a team if he isn't scoring every game.

You know that that is a lame excuse some European teams came up with to justify their loss, right? It's always been the maximum glory a team can achieve and any winner team and fans can verify that. And I bet my ass that European teams take it very seriously. They cry a lot when they lose despite the coach then saying it was just "a distraction". But when they win they celebrate as much as the UCL title that took them there!

Ah so you do take it seriously lol. I think alot of it has to do with winning the Champions League you have to beat the biggest and richest teams in the world like Barca and Real Madrid. But in the Club WC they play well "lesser" teams until they come up against the Brazilian or Argentinian teams in the final. Its a prestigious title to win but not as hard to win as the Champions League and probably not worth as much money so it gets labeled a distraction. Also because the teams have to postpone their league schedule while they jet off to Japan for it. Its more important to make sure you win your league or atleast do well enough to make the Champions League again than it is to win the Club WC. English teams make around £20m just for making the groups of the CL.

I don't know, I wouldn't call any of the goals luck. I will concede that Villa played like crap, but Liverpool truly dominated much of the play. As for playing better without Gerrard, I can't really speak to that as I don't really get to watch many of the games unless they're online.

@Druss: Well, for over 40 years it was just a playoff between European and S. American champions. That includes some Uruguayan teams as well, the dirtiest of them all. Then European teams started refusing to come down to S.America because of that. Then for many years it became a one match final played always in Tokyo.

Then FIFA had to get their dirty hands on it and started adding lousy teams to call it a "tournament" and moved the match away from Tokyo for what$v$r reason. But it is still a two team playoff with one final match. Europe vs S. America.

And I disagree with you. It is the hardest title to win. Or you really think all the UCL champs that lost it throughout history went there in vacation? Besides the $$$ prize, it is a lot more prestigious title around the World than Europe championship alone. At least for those not in Europe perhaps.

Sshh as a United fan I simply can't give Liverpool any credit for anything lol. I have had this theory on Gerrard for years he is far too Hollywood and rarely stays in position I find it hard to call a player who actually doesn't seem tactically capable of playing in any position world class. I think he is the reason Benitez played so defensively to cover for his tactical ineptness.

@ RageGT to sum up how its thought of over here I can remember the last two times United won the Champions League I can remember exactly where I was but I can't remember how we did in the Club WC. Maybe its different in the rest of Europe but here domestic competitions and European competitions are bigger, but thats also because it so rarely features teams from the UK. Its very insular here.

EDIT:I just checked and apparently we won one Club WC and lost one. I vaguely remember Ryan Giggs winning a car for a man of the match performance. I have no idea why European teams don't do well in it maybe some rest their biggest players or can't handle playing in Japan too well or maybe South American teams are just better.

Edit to my Edit Having looked at the match reports for all the European teams that have played its definately not them fielding weakened teams. South American teams might just be better.

I cheered for Man UTD. I had an ***** when they beat Palmeiras. I'm Corinthians. That's as close as Barca/Real as it gets! Palmeiras losing it is almost as good as Corinthians winning it! (imagine that both São Paulo and Palmeiras made it very easy for Fluminense to beat them only to prevent Corinthians from the Brazilian title this year! It's not only the fans. The teams and their boards will do that too... grrrr)

I've watched most of the matches since Cruzeiro x Bayern in 1976. Cruzeiro played better and lost. Not always the best team win, at least not the best team in that particular match. Liverpool lost to São Paulo in 2005 and played a lot better. But sometimes both teams were just great and the match was awesome.

Check a list of the winners. You'll see that some of the best teams ever also won the title. It is an important title. http://en.wikipedia....ation_football)

Barcelona, Bayern München, Valencia, Real Madrid, Arsenal, Schalke 04, Shakhtar Donetsk and Chelsea are the strongest in UEFA Champions League for this year.

Benzema an Samir Nasri flourished in wednesday matches.

Tevez is up to his old tricks again. Handing in a transfer request and blaming it on club executives all while demanding more money behind the scenes.

http://www.football3...6568543,00.html

http://www.football3...6570333,00.html

Note the disparity between his story and the clubs story. This is exactly the same as he did at United, wait for him to start bringing out more scapegoats over the next month or so. He will shamelessly blame everyone but himself and none of it will make any sense just more lies. He is also allegedly the highest paid player in Europe and still demanding more money.

lol ... blame it on Kia. I never realized that he's still the shadow behind Carlitos, like when he controlled Corinthians on his investors' behalf. I thought he wanted to keep controlling clubs, although Carlitos has always been kind of his pupil. Well, both lack character and that's perhaps the bond between them.

Kia has always been behind him it caused massive problems for his first couple of seasons in England the same with Mascherano. I never realised he had done the exact same thing at both Boca and Corinthians until I read this...

http://www.football3...6574820,00.html

Does it help you understand part of the reason why United fans hate him so much? lol. We have always had problems with Argentinians. Veron was a fantastic player but just never suited the style in England, Heinze was as bad as Tevez demanding stupid amounts of money that he had never done anything to earn. We seem to be having better luck with Brazilians, though not by much lol.

Um have you not been watching Arsenal this season Garbage? Chamakh and Arshavin have been two of their best players.
Do you mean slam them like Newcastle did to Liverpool the other day Darth?  Its 1-0 United with 5 minutes left and I'm praying the score stays the exact same for my bet.

I think we got lucky with that win Druss. And I don't think it's because Newcastle got rid of Hughton either, he was doing a pretty decent job for a 'caretaker' manager (Well, if you forget about the 5-1 loss to Bolton and 3-1 loss to WBA).

Aye but you still have to rub it into the Scousers Harry lol. I'm shocked Hughton was sacked he was doing a pretty good job with a team that isn't great and no funds to strengthen it. I can't see how Pardew is an improvement on that and he is probably on more money than Hughton was. It makes no sense to me at all. Then again Blackburn have just sacked Allardyce which makes no sense either.
