Indeed it will, what's annoyed me most is that I've worked myself into desperately wanting us to sign him lol. One would think I'm too old for that business, but one would be wrong.

I heard that one but SSN didn't give any real details on it. I think Leeds won 4-0 today in a cup wth a new name which actually confused me, I suspect it was the league cup. Bit odd for it to be on a Saturday and league games to start in mid week.

I just face palmed, how the hell did I not see that one coming? lol.

It seems Kagawa is in a midfield 2 tonight with Cleverly, looks like Sir Alex is considering playing him deeper than he normally plays. Rooney is looking a bit better so far, I won't even go into his "performance" against Barca but he does look sharper tonight.

Bale didn't play in the Olympics, Modjo. He was "injured" there's a bit of controversy around it but I think it's making something out of nothing. Richards was on the pitch, I didn't see enough to comment on him.

Edit: I kid you not, Hernandez just hit himself in the arse with a shot, he attempted to hit the ball forwards and hit himself on the hole lmao. Then there was a rebound which he seemed to block with his butt too, I'm in tears laughing at him. He's been cursed in pre-season.

I think any supporter would be excited to hear that their club will sign a good player who can help them up the table. I say go with the flow.

Most football news concentrates on the top league when it comes down to it; at least with the sites I tend to frequent (which is admittedly a bit less frequent now hence the longish absence). I suspect we would have to click on the actual team to find out info.......

*Heh*

With a few more games, and perhaps with Kagawa there maybe Rooney might be able to pick up his form. Odd to say that of a player who scored quite a few goals for their team, but having seen him in his earlier playing days I think the expectation is there for Rooney to play better than he typically has shown in recent seasons. I suppose that thought will also apply to Torres.

I recall the blow up of his not being part of the squad for Great Britain (currently refusing to use 'Team GB' for some reason....), and it seems he was legitimately injured enough to be removed from the squad as that's when they started. I think Pearce considered keeping him in the squad hoping he would get better but decided against that option.

Hm....if he can perfect that then he might be able to score more goals.

Hm....Blackburn now have an intermediary between Bob and Venky's. That sounds a bit odd given how they've conducted business so far.

It would seem that Portsmouth are still plodding along. Always be a little something I suspect with the club now. Will they bounce back? And how long will it take?

Have to admit I'll probably keep an eye on Blackburn and Portsmouth to see if any more shenanigans ensue from what has happened in recent times.

But the flow is going to either end up at Man City or staying at Arsenal. Wait, the guy commentating on the Scotland match just said we signed RVP! F*CK YES! It's true! I haven't been this delighted since....last night when Darren Fletcher turned up to play in a friendly match and is on his way back. He looked like he hadn't been away but looks like he lost alot of weight. It's a good time to be Druss but a bad time to be my pants.

Rooney is a very good player when he is getting on the end of things, the problem is he wants to drop deep and do alot more but his form is awful when he does that and he keeps giving the ball away . Maybe he has his mojo back now though.

I'm backing your refusal motion, what else would it be but a team? That's the situation but the media wanted a story much like the nonsense about not singing the anthem.

Portsmouth are in the crapper again as of today aren't they? Buyer pulled out? Briefly heard it earlier on SSN.

Did you see the Blackburn thing? I felt bad for Bob, the whole thing was a mess and the guy was clearly out of his depth. It was uncomfortable watching, again.

RvP is a bold move for United but they have dogs luck with injuries and RvP has a pretty troubling injury record. For a club that happily signed Owen Hargreaves I'm not sure this isn't going to end in tears. Although their attack looks quality with or without RvP at this point.

The injury record is a worry I must admit but despite the fact he is better than our current strikers we won't actually rely on him as much as Arsenal, so the injuries hopefully won't have a massive impact. If we get 30+ games out of him a season I think Sir Alex would be happy enough.

Did you say something?

The first match of The Netherlands national team since the WC, so with Van Gaal, was played yesterday against Belgium. We lost 4-2, it's getting harder and harder to take this team seriously:happy:

Belgium have a group of young quality players, if they can get the best out of them and supplement them then they could be a very good team. It will probably take Van Gaal a while to sort the Netherlands team out as they were a bit of a disaster at the Euro's. Germany lost too I hear, as did Italy.

RVP is set to make his debut on Monday night according to Sir Alex. Dunno how fit he is or if he played last night but he has missed most of Arsenal's pre-season I gather. I hope he doesn't break...

I pity Druss' pants.....

I read that Portsmouth's supporters (at least one of those sort of forums) have an offer for them. To be honest though, I think Portsmouth have had incredibly bad luck since....well....The Iron Gerbil and his bestest mate, Mandaric. One bad owner after another who seem to do what they can to put the club into the worst position possible; at least that's how it feels just looking at their predicament. Chanrai (?) demanded that all the senior players were gone by the August 10th deadline in order to complete a takeover; cue mass panic for those involved in trying to meet this stipulation in order to save the club. They manage to do so after a bit of wrangling it would seem (and the 'help' provided by The Iron Gerbil) and.....Chanrai withdraws anyway. So....what was all that about then? Many questions from an ordinary observer's point of view.

I sometimes wonder if the Netherlands' problem is to do with personality clashes more than anything else. And hey, Kimo! Druss used 'Netherlands and not 'Holland'.

RvP to Man Utd after all the furore earlier in the window. Also interesting to see Ferguson's comments about having four quality strikers again with respect to '99. Poor Berbatov.....

I'm getting giddy with excitement now, I can almost smell MotD, it smells like cabbages oddly...

I heard that one but then Chanrai said that it was because of the administrator, I haven't heard anything since. I've not paid alot of attention, Blackburn are providing me with enough madness to watch. The thing last week where the global brand manager or whatever he is said Bob would be fired if they lost three games in a row was utter madness, it was like someone who had never watched football before but his son had told him about it was now running things. Between him and the fans in attendance it was just....wow. I felt sorry for the guy in the end up.....and Bob...and Morten Gamst Pederson...

It was Netherlands I was supposed to say wasn't it? Did I get it wrong again? I knew I should have stuck to calling it Frank...

Yeah, he talks about four strikers, lists five and leaves out Berbatov. What did he do that's so wrong? He was my favourite player while he was here...wait...I wouldn't be surprised to see RVP given the number 9 too. Macheda is probably out the door too.

"If you smell....." Wait....wrong reference.....

I think I read something similar, but then....well...there's a sense as if Chanrai was stringing them along. Need more info for an informed judgement, but I'm willing to go with feeling for now. *Cough* But the news concerning Blackburn is a PR nightmare really. Just what is going on at that club? While Bob was a figure of fun for the most part it is starting to look like he got the short end of the stick now.

Yeah, it was. I'm sure Kimo will be pleased.

It makes me wonder, and a lot of others I would assume, as well. I get the feeling that perhaps Ferguson wanted to mould Berbatov into a different player to the one he had bought (I have in mind Alan Smith's conversion from a striker to a midfielder). As good as Berbatov is he was never really utilized in a way which made the best of his natural playing style. I don't think he was ever the explosive forward that some people might want in their team, and I think Berbatov was a more...calculating forward; using his intelligence and skill. Like Sheringham I guess. That split striker or withdrawn forward role. My guess is that to play that role Ferguson wanted that player to be able to drop back into midfield and track back when the team was on the defensive; Berbatov probably didn't do that enough for his liking. It would seem, and it's been coming I suppose, that the modern game requires players to do far more than what would have seemed necessary back in the old days. It's probably why Heskey was used as often as he was by various managers.

The rumour/gossip seems to suggest that Hernandez would leave for Arsenal. Macheda hasn't really had a great deal of playing time with the team, and I suppose it depends how his loan spell went. Has he impressed sufficiently enough?

Seems like quite a bit going on at the moment: Ferdinand has been fined by the FA; the possibility of Song leaving Arsenal; Lambert admits he likes Defoe and Kenwyne Jones (I really can't see anything regarding a deal concerning Defoe given Tottenham's current problem position); and....*gulp* The Iron Gerbil to be a pundit on MOTD...... I welcome the new season, but with that news......

That is the biggest problem, the players individually are very good but they can't play together because they all want to be that one player that stands out from a team of major footballstars.

Indeed he did, I am very proud of him. Druss, take this reward as my token of appreciation:Image IPB

Given some of the other things said about the Portsmouth administrator from the players it all sounds very iffy. You should look for the Blackburn clip on Youtube if you have the time, it's like something from The Office. I dunno who thought it was a good idea to put this guy infront of the still angry fans, it was a disaster waiting to happen, he just lost all control of it and probably needed Bob there beside him. It was so bloody bizarre.

I think you're half right, Obaka. The problem I think though was the mesh with Rooney, they both seemed to like operating in the same space at times, neither wanted to really spearhead the attack. I think Hernandez was at his best with Berbatov behind him with my hazy memory. As I've said before Rooney looks a better player when he is right up top finishing things off but for whatever reason he seems to refuse to do that. I think Sir Alex envisioned the game flowing through Berbatov, which to an extent it did, but he became more of a luxury as time went on and our style changed, his lack of pace seems to be what killed him with the manager. The whole not tracking back has been bandied around alot but it's not all that accurate. Yes there's times that he is just standing around and not closing down players but no player does that for 90 minutes, I've seen him track back plenty of times(not as much as Rooney or Welbeck but he does do it) and people underestimate how good he is at defending corners and freekicks. I think he will be a steal at £5m wherever he goes. Good to see Sir Alex let him keep the no. 9 atleast. I'd still love him to stay and play a part though. Yes, I'm unashamedly a huge Berbatov fan lol. Speaking of numbers, I'm also glad Valencia got the no. 7 this season, he was our best player last year easily.

Macheda had two loan spells and didn't get on much during either, I think he was injured for one of them, maybe. He didn't look great on tour either, still only 20 though. I can't see Hernandez leaving, not this season anyway.

What's going on at Arsenal? They can't keep selling their best players every summer. Kenwyne Jones still exists?

I can understand the BBC bringing in Big Mick McCarthy for sex appeal, get the ladies staying home to watch. But what does The Iron Gerbil bring? He admits to not understanding tactics, what kind of analysis can he give? "The missus, Sandra, would 'ave scored that." or "Triffic, he's a top top player him." Will he give analysis out of his car window?

Haven't personality clashes always been a huge problem the Dutch have? I seem to recall previous tournaments where infighting cost them and pundits always saying "The Dutch have a hell of a team but will they implode again?" That cookie is going on my CV, some day I will be the official ambassador to The Netherlands.

Clint Dempsey has apparently gone on strike and is refusing to play for Fulham because he wants a move to Liverpool, surely FIFA should do something, it's Tevez allover again. Even RVP didn't refuse to play. Jol's statement was interesting, he said Dempsey thinks a deal is close, Rodgers has openly spoken about signing Dempsey, yet Liverpool have not actually made a bid. Surely that's tapping up? I'm telling you Rodgers is the new Iron Gerbil.

Blackburn and PR? They don't seem to go together well for some reason....

Given how Rooney seems to be it would seem that Kagawa should be a more effective player 'in the hole' from what I've read. The impression seems to be that he was really good against Everton. Speaking of which, would you have expected a loss against Everton? I read that Everton played really well in that match especially Felliani.

Song is also gone from Arsenal now. Wonder if Wenger has anyone in mind to help shore up his squad. Given the general fragility of his players he'll need some more players.

I think someone in the F365 mailbox was pondering where he'll have his car.... Can't believe that Lee Dixon has gone to ITV though. Preferred listening to his opinions more than the others. At least MOTD was fine, and no sign of The Iron Gerbil as yet....

Cookie on a CV. Is that one of those strange things people put on their CVs to stand out in a job application? Or a bribe? Hm....

If Rodgers does keep this up we'll probably have to give him a name. Somewhat amused to see Liverpool lose their opening match by that much (though that still wasn't as bad as the 5-0 drubbing my Norwich suffered at Craven Cottage; and we sign Bassong). How long will it take him to get the squad playing like he had Swansea playing previously?

Speaking of which, Swansea did really well in their first match as well.

Oh....with Drogba gone will Torres finally be able to flourish at Chelsea now that he seems to be the main man there? Or will we find out that he is now no longer in a horrendously long slump of form and is actually a bit rubbish?

Are we to expect Blanka to actually be happy at Man City? Or will there be another incident later on in the season?

Kagawa did well last night indeed, Rooney and Nani though...No, I'm not going to rant again. We had chances but Everton wanted it more, it's more annoying that once again we have a defensive injury crisis, Nani is still highly erratic(though for erratic last night read sh*te) and Rooney started just how he played the second half of last season. A loss at Goodison isn't devastating though, Everton are a very good side and there was alot of promise in Cleverly and Kagawa's performances. Plus RVP is 30 minutes closer to fitness.

£15m seems slightly cheap to me but I suppose Arsenal are Barca's b*tch. Renewed talk of M'vila to Arsenal.

It's hard to get a good pundit, Gary Neville and Graeme Souness are good on Sky but I can't remember any others I pay much attention to. I didn't realise Dixon had left.

I'm attempting some trend setting with that one.

I like how you hid that Norwich result in the middle there, good tactic. Although QPR got beat 4-0 at the start of last season and these things do occassionally happen. It was a weird weekend resultswise.

Liverpool fans calling for his head already, did we predict this? I'm not sure if they can play like Swansea, I get the feeling it's going to go a bit wrong. Suarez is the anti-Rooney, he does everything well but finish at the minute, Rooney does nothing well except finish. Gera's was a hell of a strike and I've heard Liverpool were ontop in the first half but thats from Liverpool fans.

He could wind up benched if they sign Llorente or Cavani but he did well on Sunday I hear.

I don't trust Blanka, even when he got subbed the other day it seemed like he might react badly. November I predict another melt down.

Always good to see the positives in a game. But given that we know that Everton can play on their day then to an extent it isn't too surprising for them to give any team a hard time at Goodison Park. It's games like those that really seem to show how much desire a team can have. The question now is whether Moyes can keep that sort of momentum going seeing how Everton tend to start the season slowly.

I'm sure Barcelona used the divine right contract clause they have with every club, which no-one is really aware of, and got him on the cheap. That's my version of the story anyway.

Since I don't get Sky I wouldn't know, though I have heard that Gary Neville is well received. I think I read on the SkySports website in the same article or similar about the new pundits for MOTD about Dixon leaving for ITV. I think it's a shame for him that there isn't any regular football there; the BBC should have thrown caution to the wind have had him promoted to be on the main MOTD rather than MOTD2 I think.

Learnt from politicians: release bad news on same day as something more tragic or worse happens so it doesn't look as bad. *Cough* It was a strange weekend results-wise. Should prove to be an interesting season once again. Still a bit of the transfer window to go, and with Adebayor now off Man City's books does that mean Mancini can go get another player? They have been rather quiet so far.

I think we would have given them at least a month before they started to call for Rodgers' removal. Boy, some of those supporters really don't have much perspective. Now....where's that link to that video...... Suarez is quite a player it has to be said, but can't score. They need a proper striker in there to partner him really.

The pundits liked his runs as it shows a willingness to put himself into goal scoring positions. I can understand that; but I remain unconvinced until he shows the form he had when he first went to Liverpool and showed he could potentially be as good as van Nistelrooy was for Man Utd back then.

Probably depend on when his special friend needs the cash I would guess. I don't think Blanka himself is really that bothered. November probably makes sense if they have to buy stuff for Christmas.

I was clutching at straws with those positives. Everton usually start poorly and then pick up in the second half, it could be quite the season for them if they can stay on top form for the season, top four isn't completely beyond them. It will be hard to match the effort they put in against United though.

Good point, they were probably just being charitable by donating £15m to the Arsenal fund.

He maybe wanted to do England games and CL games instead of being on MotD2.

Mancini was moaning about a lack of signings so it is possible, as soon as there was a fear of Aguero being injured he came out saying they might sign another striker, which seemed like an extreme reaction. Apparently City are still paying £100k a week to Adebayor, Peter Ridsdale and Leeds were laughed at for similar antics.

They are still demanding Rafa back lol, they don't seem to have noticed there's no money. He has already screwed his RVN comparisons, his goals per game ratio would be nowhere near Ruud's unless he starts scoring hattricks regularly. Who would you trust to finish off a chance, him or Carroll?

There is also a chance that the pair of them have realised there's no one else willing to pay the money he is on at City so they dare not rock the boat.

Memory still suggests that Everton were the last team who managed to get into the top four without one of these huge injections of cash by wealthy owners/backers. It would be funny for those rich owners to see Everton finish in the top four on the budget they have to work with every season.

Barcelona: "We buy for charitable causes."

Hm...hadn't thought of that. That's a good point actually. Occasionally games from the other cup competitions depending on the rights at the time as well. Still think it's a shame to have lost him though. Maybe the seating arrangement wasn't that good either at the BBC....

Yeah, I heard about Man City supplementing his wages at Tottenham as well. It really is a bit....well....I guess Man City can afford it to some extent (is FFP really going to work?), and more importantly it frees up a squad place for Mancini to get someone in that he wants. But you know, it seems to be put down as a really decent piece of business by that man Levy once again. Not really sure if he really does manage to get such a good deal whenever he does business (though the record does seem to be pretty good overall). If Barcelona ever needed a replacement.....

It does seem odd how revered Benitez seems to be. Sure, he presided over their best season in recent years (certainly during the Premiership era); but he made a lot of mistakes as well which subsequent managers haven't been able to address and continually add to the problems as well. Benitez's solution had pretty much always been to throw more money into the squad, and since there isn't much in the way of money at the moment that situation wouldn't suit him as far as I'm concerned. As for finishing off chances.....I would have to go with Carroll. At least I would have expected him to stick some of those headers Suarez had against West Brom.

Given that Man City does seem to have curtailed there spending perhaps they may have seen sense. It certainly isn't beyond them to sue for a breach of contract given all their financial backing; though whether they go through with it is another matter of course.

Is it just me or has AVB managed to move a few players out of Tottenham? Certainly seems to be more leaving the club than arriving at it at the moment. If The Iron Gerbil was still there....

Indeed, Everton seem to be slowly building again with some shrewd buys upfront.

It could also be that they offered Dixon alot more money too. Do pundits care what they are commenting on? Is there prestige involved? It's a strange world, the world of the pundit.

I believe they are also doing the same with Wayne Bridge's wages or paying the whole £90k a week while he is on loan. Something tells me FFP won't do anything at all, especially with the affect it will have on PSG and Platini's allegiance to the French. I don't know if I'd put it down to the great business by Levy, Adebayor simply isn't worth £180k a week and if they wanted rid of him they would have had to pay a huge percentage of those wages no matter where he went because he wasn't budging on his demands. He is upfront and admits it's about the money, I can respect that.

They seem to be delusional too about how good things were under Benitez, they seem to think they were on the verge of greatness with him, when infact they were just spending enough to be competitive. Although Dalglish showed how that could go horribly wrong too. Benitez would do them absolutely no good now that the money is gone, to be fair though it's the same approach as Mancini seems to have and he isn't hampered by having to fit Gerrard into what's supposed to be a defensive hard to beat team. Perhaps the Messiah will return and take Liverpool back to their rightful place, 7th. I'd agree, if I knew the team would create one chance but not what kind of chance and had to pick between them, I'd pick Carroll.

Perhaps the bubble has burst for most clubs and very few are willing to throw around crazy money, we might finally see things settle down abit as far as wages and transfer fee's go. There are signs it's happening but then there's signs that it's going to keep getting worse when you look at the Moura, Kagawa and RVP deals. It's a ridiculous market.

Spurs did have one of the biggest squads if not the biggest at the start of last season, most of them were barely used. It seems AVB is going to make use of some of the players The Iron Gerbil ignored while bringing in his own players. I thought Dawson was supposed to be one of their better defenders though.

QPR are doing some business, it seems they bought a pile of aging mediocre players and are now looking to replace them already with slightly better aging players. What are the odd's on The Iron Gerbil being QPR manager by January? I'd say he will be linked by November in the media, refusing to talk about it, while saying he would love to take over a couple of weeks after that and in the job before the end of December.

Fulham have complained to the FA about Liverpool's behaviour towards Dempsey, effectively tapping him up. I wouldn't be surprised if the FA do nothing, forcing Fulham to sell to Liverpool on the cheap.

Well guys, I'm going to have to admit that I have not had the means to watch any european football whatsoever.

However, van persie is with United?!?!??!?!? O.O

Its a good purchase seemingly, but we will see how it turns out. Has Man U sorted out their midfield issue? If Giggs can be left center midfielder and van Persie as Left winger, that might work out. Man U has a lot of good forwards now, but who will be the one to lead from the front?

If I had to pick a pair of forwards for man u, and an attacking mid playing behind them, you have to match the personalities. Welbeck and Rooney are more aggressive, freeing up the defense to more passive players like Chicharito and Kagawa.

Guardiola was said to experiment like a million times with formations and positions, why can't man u do the same. I would play Wellbeck squarely up front like a true nine, Chicharito behind him and with a wider space to move around with, and Rooney behind providing and creating chances. I don't think anyone could deflate Rooney's ego and not risk insansity, but he has the talent to become an attacking mid and drawing markers.

And about putting the young talent up : Welbeck has tons of confidence, but he should not overthink his time on the pitch, just play relax. Chicharito, if he is shown confidence and belief, he can be deadly in those moment when you least expect a goal. Form is all mental and remembering to use common sense.

Kimo said it right about the Netherlands. They need to become players playing for each other, not in competition with each other.

Modjo, you seem to be under the crazy impression that Chicharito is good at football. He rarely starts for United anymore because his hold up play and passing are abysmal. He is a fantastic finisher and if he started every game I've no doubt he would score 30+ goals a season, but he can't stay in the team because he keeps missing team mates rather badly with simple passes. I had to point this out to a mate last season and in the game we were watching he launched three counter attacks, for the other team. It's something the coaches have been working on alot and he is slowly improving on.

Our best team no longer features Rooney because he has been poor for so long. I'd say it's a front four of RVP, Kagawa, Valencia and an in form Nani even though he's never been brilliant on the left. Rooney was finally dropped yesterday and we looked a more free flowing better team for most of the first half.

What about Dembele though? Bloody hell he was immense. We apparently offered £5m for him when he has a buy out of £15m, hope that performance persuades Sir Alex to cough up for him. The physical presence we need and he can play too.

Not sure at all about that QPR penalty, I couldn't even tell what happened after several replays.

Everton continued their good start to the season with another solid performance. How long can they keep this up? Or is it a case that Moyes has silently built a team that is capable of breaking into the top four again?

Hard to say why Dixon left as there weren't any reasons cited for his departure. However whenever I now sit down to watch MOTD I am dreading the thought of seeing The Iron Gerbil there.....

I'm somewhat surprised about the sale of Dawson as well. Perhaps AVB doesn't see him being a big part of his plans. I wonder whether he will try to enact the sort of project he was to try at Chelsea at Tottenham.

Given that Rooney is out for four weeks after getting that injury it will essentially force Ferguson to use certain players up front anyway for now. Van Persie seems to be the choice up front at the moment, and it was interesting that Rooney was on the bench.

Dembele looked really impressive in that game. Will there be an abundance of admirers now? When does the transfer window shut again?

Oddly both teams currently have the exact same goal difference from goals conceded to goals scored. Would like to think Norwich could have done better, though I think subconsciously my expectations have been inflated from last season.

Glancing elsewhere I was rather amused to see Blackpool beat Ipswich 6-0. Ah....the pleasure of seeing traditional rivals lose.....

I think Everton will go well until injuries start hitting them, they haven't got a huge squad but a very good first eleven.

Same here, though Sky have a new show called the footballer's football show. It had Big Mick the other night and was pretty interesting watching. I know I'm going to give up and never watch it again as soon as they start peddling The Iron Gerbil or Copper Rat on a weekly basis.

If AVB is going to enact that kind of strategy then isn't it a bit late in the window? I really don't get how Levy operates, remember how he sacked Jol and everyone in stadium but Jol knew? Or waiting until the last day of the window to sell Berbatov? Spurs operate so strangely to me.

Rooney was dropped anyway, it just means Hernandez will get more game time. Nani is rumoured to be on his way out, he was dropped from the squad after Monday's performance. It will be a shame if he goes but it's his own fault. Talk is that Sir Alex is fed up with his attitude and thinks good performances go to his head then he stops performing and Monday was the final straw. Could all be complete balls but at the same time it wouldn't surprise me.

Well both United and Real Madrid were interested in Dembele already apparently. He seems to do exactly what Anderson was supposed to do aswell as adding height, power and tackling.

I seem to recall Norwich having a chance to win it but Snodgrass headed over. Bassong could turn out to be a good signing.

I was amused by our rivals too, Mancini throwing 2 points away to prove a point alot of people are saying. Very odd selection and tactics. And seemingly this lad Sterling is the second coming of Maradona after one decent performance, everything he did was apparently amazing according to Sky's commentary no matter how mundane it was and Scousers seem to be following the example in the F365 mailbox today. Gerrard was fairly awful too which warmed my heart.
