Well the media were all over the story when De Gea stole a donut from Tesco in the first/second week of the debut season, so yeah witch hunt indeed.
I'm seeing tomorrow's game as the 'big game' rather than the Real match midweek, watched Real play tonight hoping they'd have another dismal game like they did with Granada. Of course Ronaldo scores a hat-trick and score some momentum heading into the CL. The hype so far has been more United versus Mourinho rather than United versus Real Madrid it seems, no surprise there.

My usual fence sitting/non-committal opinion: Becchio could be a shrewd signing for Norwich, or it could be partly desperation; will have to see how well he actually does. I do wonder why we keep raiding Leeds though. Surely if they were that good they would have come up at around the same time?
Man Utd beat Everton to go 12 points clear now. They will have to really drop the ball for the other teams to stand a chance now. But then....Man City have been the best team these last two years. (Apparently.)
I saw the Krang comparison, and it was funny. On another note with respect to QPR, does anyone see them going the way that the Iron Gerbil has left other clubs? On a neutral stance I would worry that all this activity would also mean another club's future being threatened somewhere down the line. Portsmouth could still disappear. It doesn't look good.
As for Bale...after that performance against Inter the other year I was surprised there weren't any transfer rumblings. Would be interesting to hear which teams would like him to play for them....
As for de Gea and Hart: English premium.

Alright, its half time of Madrid Man U, and my first watching both clubs in a while, and my first match in a while as well.
Both teams are playing pretty poor, to be honest. Defensively, Man U look outmatched. Madrid has confident, strong forwards, and the inexperience show. Whose no 4 on Man U?? He just got away with a foul like in the 44th min, poor challange. However, Madrid looks sloppy on defense too. Going forward..both offenses are great in transition, but neither team has an anchor, much less two, to dictate the flow of the match. Ozil is more of an extra foward. Maybe Barca helped popularize the notion that the more forwards the better, but people are forgetting that they have Xavi and co. directing the play. There have been a couple of bits of great individual effort, but overall the quality of the football is lower then what I remember seeing. Madrid have been taking their fair share of shots at the pot, and Man U don't seem to have a response. Granted, I will not judge Man U off of this performance, because I think that would be unfair, being away and all, but I am not impressed. This team still needs midfielders. Also, having been away from football, I had forgotten how rude footballers are towards the ref. You don't see disrespect like this in any sport, any country. No wonder refs fold on tough decisions. Ozil needs to have the centrak midfielder's role, he has the vision. I am tempted to watch the second half of shakthar donetsk dortmund instead.
edit: second half
The pace of the match slowed down, so it was better to see how both clubs are playing. Madrid played very quick, but their passes in midfield and up front were innacurate and rushed, even when there were no defenders pressing them. There was lots of hesitation to step up into space with the ball, but Ozil took charge. It is good to see that he is as confident as he has ever been. Man u had very few attacks, enough to count on one hand. 58th minute there was a two on two for united, with Welbeck streaking in, but the pass was poor. Should have been a filtered chip pass above the defenders and Welbeck so he could outpace them. Easier said then done though ^.^ Yeah..I'll say it. Ferguson parked the bus and played for the draw. He is entitled to do it, so it was a good result for them. Khedira played well, but much too selfish. Held on to the ball too long a couple times, and then the play was over. Man U did look good though going forward, it is easy to tell why they are in first in the table. What was all that controversy though at the end of the match?
Man of the match had to be de Gea

I dunno what you were expecting, Modjo. That's how CL matches tend to be played, the away team keeps it tight in the first leg hoping to nick a goal and win it in the second leg. Why would we push up when both team's main strength is the counter attack? We went in with a game plan and it worked, same way we usually play in tough away games, especially in Europe. We were unlucky not to win.
De Gea did play well, dunno where everyone is getting the notion he's finally come good from. He's been an excellent shot stopper all along, they just chose to ignore it until tonight. I'd have given the MotM to Welbeck, I thought he was brilliant and he worked himself into the ground, he had the Real defence tortured while he was on the pitch. De Gea did make two brilliant saves, but the others were all ones you'd expect him to make, we were never really opened up.
Evans is now first choice CB it seems, there's still people deriding him though. He'll be first choice for years now I imagine. Jones was pretty excellent too, he might be the midfield enforcer we've been crying out for alongisde Carrick. Thought it was odd that Cleverley didn't start, I'd have had him in for Rooney. Rafael was very disapointing, mostly because he's been fantastic this last year and a half or so. When is the old Valencia going to come back?
Anyone see Kris Commons rant about his own team mate after the Celtic game last night? I'd transfer list him and never play him again for that, also fine him a months wages and two weeks wages for being sh*t himself.

In regards to Manchester Madrid..all the questions will be answered in a couple weeks time at Old Trafford.
However, today was all about Barca and Milan. Well Barca still make great use of space, and the first half was all Barca..but the second half exposed its faults...and the big detail I had noticed in the first, and that is that Barca is a shark with no bite.
First half. I started watching 13 minutes into the match, but it didn't seem like I missed much. The score was zero zero, and Barca were playing their posession football. Now, this is the first time I have seen Barca under Tito's rule, and have to say, it still does a lot right, but what made Barca so lethal is not there anymore. Players don't really run in support of the man in posession any more. Under Guardiola, the man in posession always had a teammate ready to recieve the ball in a good position, but that is no longer the case. If there was a player ready...it would be at a difficult angle and the pass might not have been that easy to make. The attacks left much to be desired as well. There were times when holes would open up in the defense, but the man supposed to make the run never entered the space, where he could have then taken a chance or passed it center. This was the basis of the famous cloak and dagger attacks under Guardiola, and I don't think Tito has the eye for them (I am not from the bottle either
It takes more effort to play the Guardiola style, but its an effort that at times make it seem like a hurricane of movement on the pitch, as if there were 12 or 13 men on the pitch, and that is also missing. It was also annoying to see so many defenders on the back line ask for the ball...and when they would get it, they would do nothing. I understand Alves or other wingers asking for it, because sometimes they are in a good position but are hard to see...but a defender asking for the ball from Puyol...c'mon man, like he doesn't know what he is doing. Milan did not have a whole lot of the posession in the first half, but they played very well and with good team work, not to mention a lot of heart. More on them later.
Second Half. Two goals for Milan, and there was nothing cheap about them. Pizzaro had a good match...but I was really impressed by El Shaarawy. Last time I had seen him he was barely getting his first minutes on the senior team, but he has really blossomed. Lots of confidence, good decision making, and most of all, lots of heart to play. Always dangerous. I had wondered if Milan were perhaps going to be weaker because they had let some key players go over the summer, but not to worry, there current stock rose to the occasion. Could not ask more from Milan. It was good to see Busquets get booked...maybe that way he will stop flopping like a little b***h. Heck..there were too many occasions when Barca begged for a foul when there was none. Milan played clean. Milan did not have that many opportunities, but they took advantage of them, and that in the end that is what counts. There were a lot of attacks for Milan though where one player would make a run, but he would not get any support. I guess they were afraid of getting away goals, but there was a 3 on 1 with El Shaarawy, and I couldn't help but feel that if he had support from one more man, it would have been a serious attack.
What a difference a year makes. Last year...Milan had no chance of going through past Barca. Barca were just much better. However, this Milan team have grown in the last year, and look very strong. Barca used to be my favorite team to watch because of the way they played. Always in support of the man in posession, always making the correct runs and passes into space. There is no cloak and dagger anymore. Their attacks were predictable, and nobody made any strong runs to feign the defense. Remember..a good run in the area can lead to a shot on goal, but it can also pull markers away from a teammate so he gets a chance at goal. In other words...this Barca team looks a lot lazier then the one Guardiola manned.

How can you judge either team off the back of one match? Thats like saying Liverpool are challenging for the Champions League and Norwich are relegation fodder after the 5-0.

Sounds like my marking of work.....
What's interesting is that I noticed how one Barcelona player was painting it as they were playing badly and lost rather than give credit to how Milan played. Probably true of most teams to pull that excuse when they lose, but still doesn't sit right with me.
Druss, you must be rather chuffed with Man Utd's current lead. Looking good that's for sure.
Rather pleased that Norwich managed a win as well; against Everton too. Feeling rather proud. Might even try to stay awake to watch MOTD tonight as a result. Been a while since I managed to do that....

I got this strange image of you trying man-mark people in work...
Yeah, Sir Alex goes for that one alot too. I think it's psychology "You're not better, we were just bad today, we could beat you when we're playing like we usually do." Bet you notice it all the time now that it actually annoys you, whereas before you wouldn't have noticed. Like when I noticed that when people call into work and their native language isn't English(usually Arab/Asians but occassionally Europeans too I notice this with) they say the word "actually" way too much and in the strangest of places. When I started noticing it, it began driving me up the wall. One guy last week's very first word was "Actually" he then said it like 8 times in 1 minute, I almost just hung up and went home after that one. I've not quite figured out why its that particular word. I forgot my point now actually...
Yeah, well chuffed but not counting chickens before the horse....or something... Rafael's goal today was a ******. I just hope we can keep everyone fit now and see this out. I'm confident that on our day we can beat anyone but Madrid is still going to be tough and there are teams that worry me alot more than them like Barca, Bayern Munich and Dortmund but I think if we are fully fit and a bit lucky we can win it.
I thought Holt's finish was excellent, it's very easy to put those over the bar even from that close. Who is this Kamara guy? I've not heard of him before. Comfortable mid table finish beckons? Hughton has quietly gone about doing a very good job this season.

I do that too.....maybe.....
It is a psychological ploy. For some reason though it does annoy me. Oddly the word which bugs me is hearing someone use the word 'exactly' for an answer to a question. Stick those things with sayings and phrases like 'at the end of the day'.
Horse? Or beef? Hm.... Man Utd have done consistently well this season it seems. If a few more players are firing on all cylinders they may even walk it so to speak. Has to be said though, the overall competition this year really hasn't been that close really. Seems like a lot of key players from last season for quite a few teams just haven't been able to keep that form affecting the team's standings.
Hughton has been quietly working away, which is credit to him. It did look shaky earlier in the season but then the team turned a corner. After finding out Lambert was leaving (really, that doesn't look like such a good choice now for whatever reason), Hughton was my choice to succeed him given the job he managed to do with Newcastle (as manager rather than caretaker given that farce of a season) and for Birmingham. And it looks like we're reaping the rewards for that decision.
Swansea being the League Cup champions. Was hoping Bradford could pull off another shock, but Swansea winning is also nice.

Umm...because I am that good? I don't like to brag, but I know I have a good eye when it comes to sports. C. Ronaldo is super arrogant, and he may not be my favourite footballer, but I don’t deny that he has his moments of brilliance. If you know about basketball…Kobe Bryant is one of the c*ckiest players of all time, but he can sure as hell back it up. Same goes for Mourinho. Every manager wants to win. Say what you will about his tactics or his temper, but he has won quite a bit for the clubs he has managed. A lot of people don’t like your own Sir Alex, but is he one of the best…you bet ya. He has managed man u for how long..20,25 years?? A lot of people get old and say, well, I found success with such and such system, that’s the system I will always stick with..but the best managers adapt to who they have on the squad. I am not one of the football fan with blinders on Druss, Man U gets no special treatment from me…unlike the refs. Read this article….it pretty much repeats what I had said a week prior. Heck, the author probably got his idea from me http://www.guardian....adrid-barcelonaDruss99 wrote...

The ones who play are human. They make mistakes from time to time, their eyes misses a hole that could have been exploited, a man might simply not see the striker who is completely free... and the whole team might as well not have a good match.
What I'm getting at is that one match is no accurate representation of how a team is currently playing. It might be similar to many other matches, but if that one is the only one you watched, it isn't enough to judge.

For a while it seemed it was going to be one of those days and we would get beaten 1-0. But then Kagawa made his mark and Norwich lost a bit of enthusiasm conceding right before half time. Can't decide if the second or third goal was better from him.

So.. McClaren quit at Twente, which was about time. They still don't have a single victory in 2013 and he once again proved that he really isn't a good coach. But to my surprise I heard that he might go on and coach England below 21? Surely there must be someone who outqualifies him..
Barca beat Real with 4-0 in the CL after losing 3 times this season and after a lot of people claimed that the hegemony of Barca is finally over. They played strong and if they keep on going like this they might go on and win the CL. But I doubt they can keep on playing like that..
And to end: FC Thun vs FC Zurich vs Marter:

Wait, a thread where people talk about the greatest sport in the world? Oh yeah.
The Champions League is hotting up, no English teams left in the competition and Barca were magnificent last night by overturning the 2-0 advantage Milan had. One of the best team performances of all time. Can't wait for the Quater-final draw on friday, I want a Bayern-Madrid draw.

Why is McClaren still talking in that weird fake Dutch accent? He even does it while being interviewed on tv here now. I think Pearce is still managing the under 21's, haven't heard anything about him leaving.
Strangely I lost interest in the CL when Nani got sent off for trying to control the ball, can't think why... Hoping for a Bayern win though.
So FIFA are investigating Suarez punching a defender in the face. What's the odds on him getting away with it? As a United fan I will freely admit that Rooney is a thuggish ****** at times, but he get's punished(usually), Scholes is a nasty, nasty wee ****e, he knows exactly what he's doing with those diabolical challenges, but when he does it as a fan you're sitting wincing and thinking "He's getting another red here." With Suarez there's none of that, Liverpool fans seem to think he's being victimised, the media laugh it off calling him a scamp, MotD2 showed several incidents of him attacking Spurs players and laughed it off like he's a rascal. The FA seem to have some sort of agreement to ignore his stamps and attacks. I blame the authorities for this, aslong as they let him away with it he's going to keep doing it until someone gets badly injured. His stamps on peoples ankles are the height of cowardice.

So... with the competitions rounding up it's time to take stock of the season.
Are there any competitions that are still interesting at this point?
We, as NAC, are safe. Goal reached. Thanks to the best 30 minutes I have ever seen, after 60 minutes we were 1-3 behind, after 90 minutes it was 5-3:wizard:. With one match to go we are officially free of possible relegation and can end up anywhere between 9th and 14th depending on the results.
Here in The Netherlands pretty much everything was decided last weekend.
Ajax is champion, 3rd time in a row thanks to Frank de Boer. They had the best team and performed the most constant. Even without a player in the top 10 of topscorers, they simply were the best.
PSV is second, they had only one goal and failed at that, even with more than 100 goals scored this season. They can only take the Cup as a comforting prize
Vitesse failed at their goal of being champions by 2013 since they were way to dependent of one player, that took leave for a couple of weeks for the Africa Cup.
In the bottom the important places are fixed as well after last weekend. Since RKC (nr 15) won against Vitesse (nr 4) and we (nr 14) won against Roda (nr 16) the clubs for relegation playoffs are known and our rivals are relegated directly:devil:

Huge news with Ferguson retiring. David Moyes set to replace him. Will be interested to see how Moyes goes with better players and more money.
It's the end of an era in football. It's almost like a monarch dying.

It will be very, very weird with someone else in charge. I'm still not convinced it will be Moyes, but I wouldn't object to him either. Be interesting to see if we finally start signing midfielders now and how it affects transfers.
I hope Sir Alex's health is ok. He always said he would stay as long as he is healthy.

I dunno about it being like a monarch dying, but it is certainly big news. A good manager is hard to come by, and one especially at the calibre of Sir Alex. Look at Barca. Guardiola left...and now they are doing pretty poor I feel. Well, at least compared to where they were a few years ago. Think about it now though...Mourinho in at Man U is starting to sound more and more palpable.

Barca still walked away with the league. They still made the semi-finals of the CL. Guardiola leaving isn't the problem, everyone else improving while Barca stood still and got older is why they no longer dominate.
