All I kept thinking throughout that game was; "Why is Januzaj on the bench? And why is Mata playing on the right?" Baffling.

Though to be fair, watching Stoke play Arsenal over the years have taught me that they can be a very tricky side to play against if you're not 100% up to it. If they sense weakness, they have enough about them to exploit. I don't think de Gea could have done much about Charlie Adam's goals; too good, simple as that.

Hmm, a little understated, but it does capture the air of despair and the hint of frustration perfectly. 6/10.

I like this one more.

Januzaj hasn't played since we bought Mata, Young has kept his place. That says it all really. It's frustrating as hell watching the same players fail over and over again, yet they keep getting in the team. Kagawa has actually done well his last two performances and got dropped, yet when he was sh*t he stayed in the team.

It's shocking how we treated Berbatov. Top scorer one season and treated like a ginger step child the next.

Kjallstrom somehow got through his medical despite admitting he hurt his back and having an MRI, it only showed up that he will be out for a while after a CT scan. By the time he is fit, everyone else will most likely be back too. Most pointless signing of the window?

Pretty much. He's out for 6 games, then Ramsey and Wilshere will come back from injuries(fingers crossed) and Flamini's ban will end.

After today I'm
starting to lean towards Moyes out. As much as I would like to see him
given time, I just can't defend some of his decisions. He's had two
windows now to get cover in if not first team replacements and hasn't
done it. Then we lose Jones and Evans today, end up with Carrick in
defence and Rooney in midfield. You'd think sympathy for Moyes, but no.
He chose to put Rooney in midfield when we had other options on the
bench. He chose to bring Welbeck on and stick with a 4-4-1-1 with
Welbeck behind RVP. Other than height at corners, which he would also
have got with Fletcher, I can't fathom any reason for doing that.
Playing Welbeck behind RVP when we have Rooney, Mata, Kagawa and Januzaj
who can all play there is mind boggling.

I confess I didn't understand United's formation in the second half. Moyes started 4-4-2 with Mata on the left, exactIy as I wanted to. But after substitutions who went where?

I genuinely don't know. Mata started on the right in a 4-4-2 by the look of things, Young was definitely on the left. RVP and Rooney started up front but then Rooney dropped deep. RVP up front and everyone behind him swapping seems like the way to go, but we aren't doing that. Then Welbeck came on and Rooney dropped into midfield, Welbeck was behind RVP or up with him. Not that it mattered because he didn't control the ball once. Mata seemed to be everywhere and yet did nothing of note. The ball was out of play more than it was in play.

In short, I haven't a f*cking clue what we were at other than it was some sort of 4-4-2 variant.

Moyes is old school British manager and he loves wingers who contribute in defense like Valencia and Young. Mata and Januzaj is too adventurous tbf, especially when you have Evra as a fullback.

Even with Young, Evra has looked exposed. We may as well attack with better players, than throw on weaker attackers that aren't contributing defensively anyway.

So if Moyes goes, who replaces him? I've read suggestions from internet comments that maybe Carlos Queiroz should take over. What about a former player? Milan seems to be off to a good start with 2 wins from 2 under Seedorf. Roy Keane? Personally, I think that's Di Canio all over again. Cantona? United fans would go wild if that happens. I've even read some suggestions that they should poach Ole Gunnar Solskjaer from Cardiff (who, by the way, have just beaten Norwich).

Depends on when he gets sacked, I think if he hasn't learned anything after today then it's when and not if. Frankly if we get everyone back, Fellaini in midfield, Evans in defence and get RVP, Mata and Rooney match fit and we still are playing as bad as we are, I'd sack him then. I don't want to sack him and do want to see him given time, but it's becoming increasingly indefensible. All the Mata goodwill has been burned away by the players selected around him and our style of play since we bought him.

Cantona has no experience at all, there's not really any former players who have done well enough to warrant getting a chance, I wouldn't be 100% against Steve Bruce or Blanc. I don't even know who would be the right man for it. Whoever it is has to be given the money to buy a whole midfield, leftback, cover at rightback, at least one centreback, at least one winger and possibly even a striker.

Madness in La Liga. Atletico are top of the pile after Barca got ambushed by Valencia and Real dropped points to Athletic Bilbao. Ronaldo saw red and marched after a very, very soft infringement, proving once and for all that karma exists.

Now on to City vs Chelsea... ...meh. Maybe it's just me, but this has to be my least anticipated table-topping clash in years. I just think we pretty much already know how it's going to go down; while Mourinho was whinging on about the Great Wall of West Ham last week, who here is willing to bet that he went to look at the videos for some pointers after he said that? The game, then, is essentially reduced to finding answers to two very simple questions; how many goals can City players score while having a potato sack race, and how many buses can Mourinho squeeze between the posts of a football goal?

There's been some paper blabber about van Persie falling out with Moyes and a possible move back to Arsenal. Now, putting aside the remote possibility of that happening, I am personally a forgiving type, so I would actually be okay with this. However, I'd imagine that if many Arsenal fans were to have their way, his first day back would sound like this: “Come one, come all! Come celebrate 'Pelt van Persie Day!' Rotten eggs, tomatoes, free at the gates! One each for children, two for adults, we have air cannons to pass around!”

I will love it, love it, if Atletico win La Liga. That would prevent the Spanish league from becoming Scotland. I miss times when Valencia, Super Depor actually won the league and went to finals of the CL. Not going to happen obviously, one of the big two will win it.
Still, you have to give a massive credit to Simeone for even challenging for La Liga against Barcelona and Real, even losing Falcao. He looks like a great manager in the making.

El Cashico is going to be one of the most important games this season. Knowing Mourinho though, he will park the bus and play for a point with his blue wall of 11 behind the ball. All points to a dull draw.

Oh, Senhor Mourinho, you proved me wrong.

I was expecting a point-grab. I was expecting a bus-parking operation. Pretty much everyone expected a dour 0-0 draw. We were all wrong. What we got instead was a tactical lesson in counter-attacking football. Yes, City had 65% of the ball, but look closely and you'll see that the territory was actually pretty even, and Chelsea had more shots on target and 18 shots total to 25 - Chelsea could have actually won by 3 or 4 goals had they taken their chances.

Mourinho shrewdly played 4-2-3-1, with Matic and Luiz cutting off Toure and Silva, rendering them ineffective. Any possession gained is then swiftly fed to the front 4, who then struck deep into the heart of City's soft underbelly; their central defence. Kompany struggled throughout the game, and Demichelis had a nightmare.

Sure, City didn't have Aguero, and he probably could have made some difference, such as converting the few clear chances City had. In the absence of Fernandinho, Toure also probably should have sat deep instead of Demichelis, but City's goal scoring success this season has been built on him playing further up and not having to worry about covering back, so I can understand the reluctance. However, the fact remains; City were completely outplayed.

As for Mourinho, it was a vintage performance: mind games before the game, tactical masterclass during the game, and quotable quote (“The title race is between two horses and a little horse that needs milk and needs to learn how to jump... ...Maybe next season we can race.”) after the game. Hats off to you, sir.

Oh, Arsenal... a Liverpool whose attack is on fire, and at Anfield to boot, but 5-1? No. Absolutely nothing worked (in the first half, at least). Özil was there just to say he was, Koscielny and Mertesacker, a pair that has been doing wonders, were completely outclassed... I don't even know what happened.

Disaster. Worst game of the season and one of the worst Arsenal games I ever saw. When you concede two goals from ****ing Skrtel, something is very wrong.

Actually, due to Rangers' self imposed woes Scotland only has one team that can win the league right now.  :(

And until the Spanish clubs agree to sell their TV rights collectively there will always be a duopoly of Barca and Real.
In the English Premier League the winner usually gets about 50% more than the bottom placed club from the TV money pot.
Because Spanish clubs sell their rights individually Real and Barca sometimes get nearly 1000% more TV cash than the bottom placed club. That kind of situation just can't last for much longer.

Much hyped English premier league has another horrendous showing in the CL.

Man City - Barcelona 0:2.

Arsenal - Bayern - 0:2.

Olympiacos - Man Utd 2:0.

Galatasaray - Chelsea 1:1.

Only Chelsea managed not to get disgraced. We most probably are going to see only 1 English club in quarterfinals.

I wouldn't say Arsenal disgraced itself by losing to Bayern, even in a home game. Bayern simply is the best team at the moment.

I would however say that Chelsea disgraced itself by not winning at Galatasaray. I don't know why people always believe that they are a good club.. they are really not. Chelsea could have completely controlled the game after they made the 1-0, pinning Galatasaray down on the midfield and then pressing for a second goal instead of falling back.

United simply did what it has been doing all season, any other season it would really surprise me that Olympiakos won but not this one..

City should have done better at home. Barca really is not what it used to be, they should have grabbed a point.

But the biggest disgrace has to be Schalke, losing 6-1 against Real Madrid at home. I hadn't expect Schalke to win but this is just embarrasing.

Yeah, Bayern is an unstoppable German machine this season, it still doesn't excuse a capitulation at home. Ozil missing a penalty and Szsesny's retarded red card are unforgivable on this level. Team that sits in the second place in EPL shouldn't get beaten that easily.

I'm not surprised that City lost to Barca, I always thought they were overhyped by the British press and wrote about it in this thread too. Barca players are simply better, have a good coach and Pellegrini's tactic is not suited for continental football.

Well Man U and Moyes just continue to provide entertainment to us.

German clubs except Bayern and Dortmund have a bad habit of shitting their pants in Europe. I mean Neverkusen lost 0:5 to Man U at home this season?!

How has the footballing been? I'm looking forward to reading all the posts. I am sloooowwlly but surely getting back into foot.

I just got done watching some CR7 videos and have noticed he has really improved. I also caught part of Madrid's Champions match last week, and though I did switch to the other one going on at the same time, Madrid are looking very good. I caught a few minutes of a Man U match recently and it seems like the talk is that Man U no longer seems a top destination for top players. Also, what I meant by Welbeck not having a lot of goals is that there is probably a lack of offense at Man U, as he is the kind of player if given chances, he will convert. I also saw that van Persie got some flack for wasting a chance late in a match, not sure against who. Well, when Man U are suffering from a serious lack of offense, a wasted chance is going to really be scrutinized.

Perhaps the club I am most eager to watch is Guardiola's Bayern. No doubt its going to take some time to really get his footballing style going, but a good manager stays a good manager. It seems like the Bundesliga is not a challange to him at the moment. Well....seems like I am going to have to write a few clubs in Germany hehe. Hmmm so Mesut...how's about a return to the the Deutschland??

edit: Also, I do feel a little bad about Mourinho getting caught saying that about his forwards, but I think the mistake in the first place was that he said that. His forwards know who and where they are in their footballing careers. However, as a manager, you have the guys you have and you work with what you got. I think Mourinho has gotten spoiled a little with his time at Madrid and a squad whose bench is good enough to be a team of their own. Chelsea won the European Cup in 2012 against the odds so they are a team that can win.

Do you mean vs Wigan or the who leaguey thing?

Die Bayern, Werder Bremen (You suck!) and Arab Satellite! The only thing I can watch is our own league and Bundesliga.

At least I can watch some mediocre matches like Wolfsburg vs Hamburg or something like that.

We might win tonight(hahaha!) but every time I see a side that Moyes has picked my blood boils. Is he genuinely blind? It's constantly ridiculous and obvious where the problems are, yet he persists in forcing RVP and Rooney up front together, they didn't work last season, they aren't working this season. One or both of them need to be dropped, but now we know Rooney is completely undroppable and our future captain and a club ambassador(f*ck off Moyes you should be sacked for that alone). Everything is so ridiculously unbalanced and yet nothing seems to have been done about it at all except "4-4-2 lads, get some crosses in."

Bye to Kagawa too, when you play sh*t you're kept in the team and forced to play wide, when you play well you're dropped and rarely even get on as a sub.

Part of me still wants to see Moyes given time, but every team line up, every limp performance makes me think he's never going to change anything enough to get it right. If we get beat tonight then I've run out of defences for him and considering our midfield is Giggs and Carrick I don't have a whole lot of hope tonight. I do hope I'm wrong, but f*ckin hell Dave wake up.

Aye, but even before we were handed a future thrashing it was pointless. We still created very little from open play and looked ropey at the back, it took a penalty, a defensive c*ck up, a freekick and some world class saves from De Gea to get us through. The big difference was that RVP looked like he gave a sh*t. Nothing else was overly different from the last couple of months except we finally had some luck.

The result might lift a bit of pressure of Moyes and RVP being injured means we don't have to shoehorn him and Rooney into one team with everyone coming deep to get the ball. So we might kick on from here, false dawns are beautiful.
