Sorry for not posting lately. The southern rugby season's back on, and let's just say my team's (the Crusaders) performance hasn't really put me in the mood to talk about sports in general. Arsenal's recent performance was only more salt to the wound.
Right, the Manchester Derby. Was there any doubt? The only realistic outcome in favour of United would have been a dignified draw, and even that's asking much. Now I fear for them against Bayern, I really do. It's going to be a humiliation.
Meanwhile, there's been talks of Suarez being player of the year. He certainly has been sensational, but that kind of accolade does deserve a closer consideration. What do you think?
Anyway, it's a three-horse race now, with Arsenal fading as I knew they would; the lack of proper spending in January has come back to bite them. But Liverpool catching fire like this is a surprise. A fitting reward for Gerrard as he approaches the twilight of his career? Perhaps. Recently, in rugby, another legendary captain of another battling, slightly underdog-ish team was sent off into retirement with a championship in his hand and a smile on his face. These things do happen.
Elsewhere, Bundesliga was anti-climatically settled with 7 games to go, and Serie A's looking likely to end a similar way. However, in Spain - the one place you'd least expect an exciting title race - more madness has ensued. Stumbles by both their rivals in Weeks 25 to 27 seemed to have put Real in control, but losses in El Clasico and to Sevilla have now put Atletico back on top and Barca breathing down their necks. Unbelievable.
