2-2 Against WBA is really about expected since United still need a lot of time to work out massive issues in the play but the result is for now less important. Now to get to the thing that made the date get marked in every calender from the coldest parts of the arctic to the most southern parts of South Africa. From the most western point in Alaska to the most eastern part of Asia. Fellaini did something good in the United jersey and I'm not sure if it actually happened or if it's some kind of dream.

Now if he could do that a little more often it wouldn't hurt!

Maybe he was checking Twitter on his phone at half-time. See, West Brom were leading 1-0, and feeling confident about their chances, their media team had a little dig at Fellaini on Twitter. He came on and scored. Words. Eat. Anyway, United still haven't won an away game this season, prompting Louis van Gaal to... ...claim that this was their best match so far and that they can still catch Chelsea? Hmm.

Meanwhile, the former Chilean football chief Harold Mayne-Nicholls has come out and said that the World Cup in Qatar can still go ahead in summer... ...as long as some games start as late as 1 am. Wait, what? Okay, where's my soapbox? (grabs soapbox) (clears throat) Are you friggin' insane?!! First there's the whole scheduling chaos and clash with the Winter Olympics of a winter World Cup, then there's the strong allegations of corruption in the bidding process which FIFA investigated but won't even make public, and now you want to drag fans out of bed at 1 am to go watch football? Enough is enough. FIFA should stop being a bunch of friggin' ****** and strip Qatar of the World Cup already. End of soapbox.

Oh, and speaking of the World Cup, the head of the 2018 World Cup in Russia came out and said that there is no racism problem in Russia... ...right on the same day Man City are playing CSKA Moscow behind closed doors... ...due to CSKA fans' racist abuse. What's Russian for "irony?"

Coming up today: CSKA vs Man City, Chelsea vs NK Maribor, Roma vs Bayern Munich, Barcelona vs Ajax.

CSKA Moscow 2-2 Man City is a perfect demonstration of why no matter how many Premier League titles they win, no matter how much Emirati oil money is poured on them, and even no matter how many times they smash-and-grab for Arsenal players in transfers, I can never hate Man City. I can never hate them because they play an attractive, if a bit soulless, style of football; tearing CSKA apart in the first half to lead 2-0 at the break. I can never hate them because despite their achievements, they always seem to have a soft underbelly they can never quite shake off; they switch off and have lapses, and it cost them again today. Sure, the penalty was as soft as a sheep dropped in a tub of hair conditioner, but by that point Man City had already let them back into the game, and I think the result reflected that. Plus, their very presence annoy Man United, "noisy neighbours" and all that, and that's okay in my books.

The rest of the results were goals and thrashings galore. Chelsea hit NK Maribor for six, but with Remy limping off after scoring his goal and Costa still not fit, Chelsea could have a striker shortage on their hands. Bayern Munich put 7 past shell-shocked Roma, who could only manage a Gervinho single in response. Shakhtar Donetsk also scored 7 goals against BATE Borisov. Barcelona beat Ajax 3-1; comfortable enough for Barca manager Luis Enrique to take his key players off (Messi, Neymar and Iniesta) and wrap them up in cotton wool for El Clasico. Schalke and Sporting Lisbon played a roller-coaster; Schalke came back from a goal down to lead 3-1 after Mauricio collected second yellow and walked. Sporting then came back to level at 3-3, before Schalke scored a penalty in stoppage time to win 4-3. Lots of action, lots of officiating controversy.

Tonight, we have Liverpool vs Real Madrid, Anderlecht vs Arsenal, Olympiakos vs Juventus, Galatasaray vs Borussia Dortmund.

Sometimes I wonder why I keep paying good money to see miserable matches..

Last weekend we had to play Ado who is 2 point behind us and in the relegation zone. A direct competitor to us plus we played at home (which really is a massive advantage).

It started out amazingly, the only bad thing is that we didn't score.. In 10 minutes we could have been up 4-0 thanks to a non-stop barrage at the opponents goal after which we even got awarded a penalty and a red card (awarded because absolutely nothing happened).. which we missed.. horribly, not even close to the goal..

After that we played 75 minutes with a man more but not for a second did we manage to pose any threat.. In the end we should be lucky we managed to draw 1-1. With exception of 2 players, nobody moved an inch to try something, no spirit, no quality nothing. We were never a club that had the best players quality wise but we used to be know for the club where anything could happen. I don't care if we lose, as long as they show some bloody commitment and fight for every ball. Doing this we were unbeatable at home even against Ajax, PSV etc just a few years ago and played in Europe.. now we should count ourselves lucky if we avoid relegation (which we managed on the very last day last year..)

I love my club and I am not the only one, each match, the stadium is filled, at least 18.000 people watching even in these times.. but I hardly recognize my club anymore (it doesn't help that we are continuously almost bankrupt and changed directors and other managers more than coaches lately) this has been going on for near 2 years now and patience is limited..

Maybe I will see some better football when I go see Monchengladbach - Hoffenheim in 2 weeks

But back to more pleasant things.

Ajax lost hopelessly against Barcelona, hell Barcelona didn't even need to try to win, if they had it would have been 7-0 as well.

It looks like this year is a good one for big results, which begs the question whether the differences in the top are becoming bigger or everybody forgets how to defend properly. My bet would be on the second one seeing how a defender is judged just as much on his offensive as his defensive skills these days.. Defenders should be walls the opposing side runs against not midfielders/forwards who are played in the back of the field.

It is also great to see that Koeman is still doing a much better job as Van Gaal, who, as it seems, still hasn't lost his delusions of grandeur. That own goal was really amazing, many forwards should be jealous. Koeman aways was a good coach. Under him the players might not improve that much but atleast they work for each other and are happy to play. However, don't underestimate the effect of his brother and assistant. He is a good head coach in his own right. He almost managed to keep RKC from relegating last year and if he had managed that he would have been coach of the decade in The Netherlands. (RKC now stands almost last in the 2nd division with many of the same players)

In the meantime the Dutch football association has had a talk with Hiddink and concluded that the problems with the national team are structural and not just bad luck, which every person in The Netherlands could tell you before last WC. This will not likely change any time soon while Van Persie, Sneijder, Van der Vaart and Robben keep playing.

Hiddink will remain coach, mainly because they don't have any other choices. His main competitor for the job was Koeman and he would be crazy to give up what he has going in England for the mess of the national team..

Man, I would love to go see Arsenal play in person - fat chance of that happening, though. Almost a hundred quid for a matchday ticket? No thanks. Luckily, I'm a fan of other sports besides football, so I've been fortunate enough to see my Crusaders and Canterbury in action, and it was a great experience. Much cheaper than an Arsenal ticket, too. Someday, I will go to an All Blacks game.

Not that there's a much to see at the moment, as far as Arsenal are concerned. They played wretchedly in Anderlecht; frustratingly ineffective in possession and repeatedly caught out at the back. If it wasn't for a late Martinez save, Anderlecht would surely have been 2-0 up. How on Earth Arsenal managed to escape with a 2-1 win is worthy of some sort of a heist movie, because Anderlecht were robbed.

Liverpool lost to Real Madrid 3-0, and according to the internet, it's all Balotelli's fault. Sure, swapping shirts with your opponents at half-time was stupid, but Balotelli was the least of Liverpool's problems. If you defend like schoolboys, you're going ship goals by the bucketloads, and you're going to lose. Simple as that. Meanwhile, Atletico Madrid crushed Malmo FF 5-0, Olympiakos upset Juventus 1-0. A Wendell red card couldn't stop Bayer Leverkusen from beating Zenit St. Petersburg 2-0, and while Dortmund have had a domestic season to forget so far, they seem to be enjoying life much more in the Champions League, comfortably beating Galatasaray 4-0.

Anyway, apologies for the late post; insomnia is not a pleasant experience. A couple of big games coming up this weekend; Manchester United put their mettle to the test against the runaway Chelsea train, and El Clasico needs no introduction.

Had an eye on the Malmö game for most of the evenin and for about 60 miniutes they genuinly gave Atletico a good challenge but once the large differences that very much were there got exposed it was like knocking the wind out of the lungs and Malmö just died and there were just no way they could keep up against the strongest team in the group at the hardest location that they were to play at. 5-0 is not in any sense a fair result but such is reality and who knows, Malmö still got 3 games to screw everyone else over a bit! Just need some rest since while they won the league here in Sweden very comfortably the squad is getting a bit worn out.

Now Balotelli being an absolute fool doesn't suprise me and for being him that's almost a bit tame! Still if he played for any of the teams I support I'd not want to see him in the jersey for a long time. It's not like Liverpool would actually miss him if he wasn't on the pitch. A snack salesman could probably get a better result and look mighty fine in the shirt!

Need to catch up on a few of the other games but this champions league got some very remarkable results already!

Before getting into this weekend's games, did you see Tottenham vs Asteras Tripolis in the Europa League on Thursday? Now, I don't normally pay much attention to the Europa League, at least until deep in the knock-out stage. Having said that, check out this Erik Lamela Rabona goal. Damn. Meanwhile, Harry Kane scored a hat-trick, before taking the gloves after Lloris got sent off. Needless to say, Pochettino won't be selling his reserve goalie anytime soon.

Right, to the weekend's games. What a fascinating Clasico! Suarez combined with Neymar for the opening goal, which preceded a period where Barcelona could have scored a few more. Then Real counter-attacks started to wreak havoc in the Barca defence, causing Pique to handle the ball in the box - Ronaldo converted from the spot. Second half was all Real Madrid; while Barca dominated possession, Real kept their compactness, defended stoutly, and counter-attacked with venom. Messi was next to invisible, whereas Isco had a game to remember; looking dangerous on the ball, orchestrating Real's third goal after a poor Barca corner, and walking off to the crowd chanting his name. No doubt he's been motivated by playing second fiddle to Bale. Real won 3-1, closing the gap at the top of the table to 1 point, with Sevilla to play on Monday.

To the Premier League, and West Ham wrecked Man City 2-1 despite Silva's brilliant individual goal. Credit to Big Sam Allardyce; he was once known for grinding negative football, but this season West Ham have scored 17 goals from 9 games, and actually look pretty good to watch as a team these days. Sunderland's defensive woes continue; it wasn't 8-0 this time, but their tendency for comedic errors were gifts which Alexis Sanchez was only too happy to take, as Arsenal coasted to a solid if uninspiring 2-0 win. Liverpool misfired to finish 0-0 with Hull, but hey, at least they kept a clean sheet! Finally, over in Germany, Dortmund must be wishing they could play Champions League football every day, as they fell to yet another defeat against Hannover.

Man United vs Chelsea tomorrow. Somehow, I have a "goals, lots of goals" feeling about this one.

Been watching Europa league a bit more the last few years due to Swedish teams having moderate success, had the Tottenham game on in the background and that goal. Can never see it enough! That kind of brilliance is a beauty and it's a shame Lamela hasn't been able to pull it of in England but he's looking better by each game!

Didn't watch the classico but media here do mention Modric a lot as the key to Madrid tearing Barcelona apart. Will be taking a look at the highlights at some point if for any other reason than to see just how deadly the players can be

I'd rather have a sack of potatoes in goal than Mannone at this point. Absolutely would be a wreck if he had played for any team I cared about! Sunderland is not a bad team but it's just impossible to build anything solid when the goalkeeper is like Mannone and the defence are less agile than skyscrapers. They got a lot of work to do but they can still be a premier league team for next season if they stop making their fans ashamed.

Really enjoyed watching the West Ham game and it's rather awesome to see several years of work finally get a bit of a result for Big Sam. The game actually got a solid foundation and with this season some flare and energy. They will cause trouble for most teams and City looked just awful today, much credit to West Ham never really giving them the chance to pick up speed!

Modric had a good game, and so did ol' Ronron and Marcelo, who both looked lively on the counter all night, and even James had a solid day's work. In fact, it was a complete Real Madrid performance all round; they were energetic, disciplined and ruthless, and were well deserved winners.

After watching Alex Song have another blinder for West Ham, I'm rather weirdly comforted by Mannone, who for once sucked instead of prospering after moving from Arsenal.

Fergie time is still a reality, Old Trafford still got the magic, there's still a United that can make things happen when they are the most needed. This is the most important draw for United in many years because it does signal that so very much. The team is half built, it's very weak in the defence. Too dependent on invididual magic but it's a work in progress that now got a much needed breath of fresh air and maybe just maybe this season wont feel like a waste when May comes around. The player in this match I'll easily give to Thibaut Courtois because he was the goalkeeper that many teams wish theirs were. Brilliant saves! Hopefully United can now string some good results together and gain some kind of momentum. It's going to be a hard task with City but they are hardly anywhere near as scary as Chelsea.

...

...I got nothing add. I agree with every word.

That or I'm still exhausted. Playing Civ: Beyond Earth was exhausting. Watching Andy Murray slug it out with Tommy Robredo for 3 hours 20 minutes was exhausting. This game pretty much drained every last bit of energy I had. Great game, lots of action. Best United performance of the season, I think, though that defence still needs work, and it baffled me why Chelsea didn't press harder as the game wore on. The Manchester Derby is going to be off the hook.

As I said, playing Civ:BE has been very tiring, which is why I misread the La Liga fixtures and thought Sevilla would play on Monday. Both they and Atletico Madrid won today; the top 5 teams in La Liga are at moment separated by just 2 points. Tight.

In Germany, shock and horror! Bayern Munich dropped points, drawing 0-0 with Monchengladbach. Their lead is now... ...kept at 4 points. Hmm. Do you think they noticed they hit that speed bump?

Finally, there are rumours David Moyes might manage Inter Milan. Hahahahaha!

League Cup midweek, then more domestic league action. Newcastle, who have finally won an away game, could be a tough one for Liverpool. And of course there's the Manchester Derby.

Enjoyed the quiet midweek? Good to catch a little breather, where nothing happens at all. Well, except for Man City getting dumped out in the League Cup by Newcastle. Nope. Nothing at all.

Speaking of Newcastle, after losing their first 7 Premier League games, they're now on a 3-game winning run, the latest being a 1-0 win over Liverpool in a poor game. Honestly, it was like a paraplegic fighting a mannequin. Meanwhile, Arsenal were also pretty lethargic for about 70 minutes, and looked like they might be left frustrated by Burnley. However, Alexis Sanchez, who is not a soft and squishy European, single-handedly orchestrated a late 3-0 win. Southampton exploited a goalkeeping error to beat Hull City 1-0. Eden Hazard scored a penalty to give Chelsea a 2-1 win over a spirited QPR side. Oscar scored a pearler.

In La Liga, Real Madrid beat Granada 4-0. James Rodriguez hasn't really been a goals machine for Real so far, with just 4 goals from 10 appearances. But damn, when he does score them, he tends to score them like this. Meanwhile, Barcelona suffered a Clasico hangover, hitting the crossbar about a hundred times and losing 1-0 at home to Celta Vigo. Real Madrid now leads La Liga, 1 point ahead of Atletico Madrid, who were victorious 4-2 against Cordoba. Table-toppers coming in, Barcelona could finish the weekend 5th.

In Serie A, Napoli inflicted a damaging 2-0 defeat on Roma, as Juventus beat Empoli by the same scoreline to open a 3-point gap at the top. Finally, in Germany, Bayern Munich beat their sometimes title "rivals" Dortmund 2-1 with a Robben penalty. "Rivals" in this case describing a relationship similar to that of a stick and a piñata; Bayern hits Dortmund, and sweet, delicious new players pop out.

Next up, Sevilla and Valencia have away games at Athletic Bilbao and Villarreal respectively as they both look to make Barcelona's weekend worse. And of course, we have the Manchester Derby.

Of all dumb things he could do he managed to get sent off through one completely reckless and useless "try" to tackle. It's a bad sign when I almost wish we still had Ferdinand around..

Been watching the Formula 1 straight after the football. Great race. Anyway...

The Manchester Derby was a strange and feisty occasion, which must have gotten to Chris Smalling, who suddenly had amnesia, forgot how to play football, and went around kicking people instead. He saw red and walked in the 38th minute. United now have 5 red cards this season - more than any other team in the Premier League. City then had at least three good penalty appeals denied, before Clichy picked out Aguero to slam the ball past De Gea. Having made the breakthrough, City then... ...sort of fell back. Against ten men. United somehow finished the game leaving City clinging on to their lead by the skin of their teeth. City won 1-0. Van Gaal's United are still unable to win away, and have so far amassed just 13 points this season (versus 17 at the same stage under Moyes). £152 million well spent.

Conclusions from this game: Manuel Pellegrini is right... ...and should not be City manager next season. City plays a nice and attractive style of football, but when it comes time to put foot on someone's throat, City instead let 10 men make them sweat to a win. There's just no aggression, no ruthlessness, no passion about them. Rumours are that City want Simeone; he would be perfect. As for United; they just can't defend, period, and must have sold their souls to some Elder God to not concede at least two or three penalties. It's also about to get worse now that Smalling is suspended and Rojo has a dislocated shoulder. Rooney should get used to life in the midfield, and van Persie's best days might be behind him.

In La Liga, Sevilla missed their chance to go top of the table as they lost 1-0 to Athletic Bilbao. Valencia made no such mistake, beating Villarreal 3-1. Real Madrid now lead a top 5 separated by just 2 points. In Serie A, Milan's inconsistent season continues as they lose to Palermo 2-0.

It's Champions League reverse fixtures time! Juventus will seek revenge against Olympiakos. Real Madrid welcomes Liverpool to the meat grind- the Bernabeu. Arsenal vs Anderlecht, Dortmund vs Galatasaray, Bayern Munich vs Roma, Ajax vs Barcelona.

The fact that City this year aswell have massive issues with the Champions League was more than enough evidence that the club isn't getting stronger as much as the rest of the Premier League is getting weaker. Really at this point the only reasonably strong club is Chelsea and we can just look at the league table to see just how much better they are. Outside of City being stagnant all the other """"top"""" clubs with extra " are doing their own piece of tragedy. Liverpool right now are just a disgrace to behold, Arsenal I just don't even know what they are doing but it's not really working that well. Tottenham at this point aren't awful as much as they are very underwhelming. United is a ship with a hole the size of Antarctica and the lost year with Moyes absolutely didn't help. I without a doubt believe Van Gaal is the right person for the club right now but what he need is more than one single transfer window to patch this sorry wreck together to at least drag its sorry bum to something that might look like a fine club.

Almost grateful for Smalling being one massive disaster of a player. Without his brilliant try to get himself out of the squad on permanent basis I'd almost be upset over a lose towards City but the other 10 actually did put in a genuine effort. Might aswell put McNair beside Rojo for the future once Rojo return. At least McNair has actually done something to prevent goals this season!

Champions League time. Alexis Sanchez once again inspired Arsenal to a 3-0 lead over Anderlecht, and any half decent side would have at least parked the bus, cruise to an easy night's work, and get inside to dry off. Unfortunately, Arsenal didn't have buses - they had Peel P50s. Anderlecht stormed all the way back in the last 30 minutes to square the game 3-3. Oh Arsenal, why can't you ever make things easy for yourselves?

No Gerrard, no Sterling, no Balotelli, no problem? Well, no 3-0, at least, as Liverpool managed to hold Real Madrid to just a single Benzema goal. While Liverpool will be busy patting themselves on the backs, Real will... ...be busy preparing for the knock-out stage, for which they've qualified. Dortmund ran out comfortable 4-1 winners against Galatasaray. Jurgen Klopp must be thinking about hiring a hypnotist, or at least begging UEFA to let him keep the Champions League getup for the weekend game against Moenchengladbach. Juventus avenged their loss in Athens, beating Olympiacos 3-2. Atletico Madrid beat Malmo 2-0. Group A is still up for grabs.

Next up, Bayern Munich vs Roma, Man City vs CSKA Moscow, NK Maribor vs Chelsea.

I wasn't feeling well on Wednesday, so I missed out on the Champions League games. Anyway, today's fixtures. In the Premier League, we have Liverpool vs Chelsea, which has started and is already 1-1 after 15 minutes. Southampton vs Leicester City, Man United vs Crystal Palace and QPR vs Man City are later. In La Liga, Almeria host Barcelona looking to end their run of two consecutive defeats, while Gareth Bale will look to return with a bang when Real Madrid welcome neighbours Rayo Vallecano.

Well, after an explosive start, the Liverpool vs Chelsea went kind of flat. It was still quite a scrap; Skrtel and Costa in particular brought their duel from Slovakia vs Spain with them, and were like two blood-drenched warriors fighting an apocalyptic battle - Costa even walked away with a torn shirt as battle scar. Overall, Liverpool were shambolic in defence and ineffective in attack despite owning 59% of possession, and Costa made them pay in the 67th minute. Chelsea won 2-1. Chelsea fans, apparently responding to Mourinho's rant about them, were singing and chanting throughout. It seems only Jose Mourinho can disparage his fans and get away with it.

Then came four games in which the grand total number of goals at half-time was... ...0. Man, where did all the goals go- oh wait, the Germans stole them all. Eventually Burnley, of all people, finally made the breakthrough, before Man United ground to an uninspiring 1-0 win, and Shane Long struck a late double to propel Southampton to a 2-0 win. I still can't believe Southampton may well be Chelsea's closest title contender, but whatever.

Over at Loftus Road, Hart survived two disallowed Charlie Austin goals, the second of which got everyone busting out the rulebooks, before Austin got third time lucky. Aguero then hit back brilliantly, with a hint of handball. Edin Dzeko then got subbed on to replace Fernandinho in the 66th minute... ...then promptly limped off 60 seconds later. A panicky performance in defence led to a Demichelis own-goal, but Aguero rescue City's bacons again to finish 2-2. What a bizarre, action-packed, see-sawing, absorbing game to end the day. Jose might as well throw a party.

In La Liga, Barcelona survived a scare to beat Almeria 2-1, while Real Madrid steamrolled Rayo Vallecano 5-1. Finally, back in Germany, a Stuttgart win means that Dortmund are now officially bottom of Bundesliga. Only one way left is up, right?

Next up, Arsenal take a trip to Wales. Sevilla, Valencia and Atletico Madrid play their games in hope of keeping pressure on Real & Barca. Then it's another international break.
