Darth I meant being stuck with a player who doesn't seem to be giving their all and shouldn't be in the team but is there because of how much he is being paid. Notice how Torres' form picked up right around the time the transfer window was opening up? Before that he looked like he couldn't be bothered.

Whats annoying me is that the media aren't turning it into the same kind of apocalyptic scenario like they created when Rooney handed in a transfer request simply because Torres isn't English. Torres is clearly a better player and means more to Liverpool than Rooney did to us but because he isn't the English golden boy its just a side story. If Rooney wasn't English you would hardly hear anything about him, same as Beckham. Two of the most overrated players on the planet. If Rooney was having the kind of season Tevez is having he would be getting called the best player in the history of time.

The Tevez thing was hilarious Obaka he is such a hateful twisted wee turd his behaviour when he was leaving United was disgusting. I would put every penny I have on it happening again in the summer.

Wouldn't surprise me, but the reason I found the Tevez situation at Man City interesting is partly because he (perhaps his agent or conceivably both) seems to pull off this transfer request thing at every club he's been at.

At Man Utd I wasn't aware of his shenanigans, and with hindsight it seems that Ferguson was right not to break the bank for him. So Tevez goes to whichever team could afford him.

At Man City he tries to pull the same stunt again. But this is where their wealth (or as I see it their owner's wealth as I don't see them as being a financially self-sufficient club) actually acts as a stumbling block for Tevez's usual antics. Because the owners have that much money it is possible they could just let him rot in the reserves for the rest of his contract and not worry about their finance; most clubs would usually have to.

Coupled with the threat of the club suing Tevez for breach of contract if he decides to retire...well...it wasn't a situation that Tevez could win. His usual tactic requires a team to be unable to prevent his transfer due to their financial concerns. Suddenly he can't actually get what he wants.

So yeah, it is funny. And Tevez is one those people who, for some reason, I just don't like. One of those gut reactions. A good player on his day but not a particularly likeable person I feel.

Also I have to agree on the English bias, or perhaps even British bias if we consider Gareth Bale who has had some decent and very memorable performances this season. And the press typically builds up these players to be world class when they're quite a long way away from being of such a standard.

I sense you're a Man Utd supporter Druss. Didn't Ferguson try to get Bale before he moved to Tottenham? I can only imagine what he'd be like under Ferguson's tutelage with Giggs there to mentor him as well.

Aye I'm a United man OBaka what about yourself?

I posted this a few pages back its got some interesting reading on Tevez's history http://www.football3...6574820,00.html he seems to pull the exact same stunt everywhere he goes. His attempts at pulling it at United were beyond ridiculous he actually complained that the directors never invited him for tea and a meeting at one point despite the fact they didn't invite any other players either and he didn't speak English anyway. He complained about getting played too much then not getting played enough despite playing 52 games that season then when he tried to turn the fans against Sir Alex he went too far. He must be a nightmare to work with. It seems to me its only a matter of time before hes causing trouble at city again.

Aye we were in for Bale but I think he went to Spurs because he couldn't see himself getting in our team ahead of Evra, he was a leftback at the time. I would love to see us sign him now but hes probably way out of our price range, hes not as good as he is being made out to be but hes still young and could be world class under a proper manager not that clown Redknapp.

I liken myself as a football admirer. Strange I know. If I really had to choose allegiance it would be Norwich.

In the Premiership I would be split between Man Utd and Arsenal; probably because of what their respective managers have managed to achieve during their time there. I will add that I do have a dislike for Liverpool for some strange reason. :P (Though it might have something to do with the...FA Cup match? when Alan Smith broke his leg against Liverpool.)

And yeah, it was the F365 article I read a while back about Tevez's stunt. He certainly seems to have an inflated amount of self-worth regarding his position with the board. He makes too many comments which leads me to think he isn't really professional. How many times has he said he's going to quit football? Blimey.

Be funny if he did decide to retire before his contract ends and Man City then sue him for breach of contract.

As for Bale...yeah, he was a leftback when he started out. Now if only someone could see what pushing certain players up the field can do for them as individuals and the team in terms of position. (I'm thinking Glen Johnson. Liverpool, I know.)

It's an interesting year for the Premiership. Who'd have thought the newly promoted teams would do quite well so far when they're usually relegation material straight from the start, and that established teams are in the relegation places.

Also, I thought Chelsea would have done pretty well this season after last. One sacking and the team seems to have fallen apart. And now they're trying to get Torres with the suggestion of Anelka going in the opposite direction.

Football, it's a funny old game. ;)

Do you mean when the Liverpool fans attacked the ambulance Smith was in?

I'd love to see Tevez start his nonesense again and get stuck in the reserves for the rest of his contract. Who else would be willing to take a chance on him now anyway? He would cost a fortune and in a years time be at the same thing again.

I think Johnson needs pushed a bit further to the right and onto the bench, I dunno how he ever ended up a rightback he is a terrible defender, unless he himself refuses to play any other position you would assume that he would be far more suited to the right wing.

This season has been bizarre your right, I don't think anyone could have predicted the way things have gone. Its even shocking that we are top of the league given the fact we have rarely played well and are effectively missing our top scorer from last year.

You've been waiting months to use that Angela Lansbury line haven't you? lol.

I hope to god Leeds don't get promoted, anyone but them. Their fans that have been silent for years have suddenly started coming out of the woodwork again acting like they didn't abandon their team when times were bad.

Been reading some transfer news now.
It appears that Ferguson has Stekelenburg on his list (please not Stekie, he's too important for Ajax :'( ).
Chelsea wants Torres, Liverpool wants him stay, they are asking 60M for him if they really want him. Not really a piece of pie :P

Tott'ham is offering 45M for Atletico Madrid's Aguero... son in law of Maradona. But it appears Atletico refused.

Somewhere outside of England, more specifically, Ajax and Napoli are fighting over my "co-national" Slovene forward, Tim Matavž. How lovely. Go to Ajax dammit!

That's basically everything interesting for the 31st of January.
Also, Legrottaglie, ex-Juventus' central-bench heater, is officially a AC Milan player.

On another one of my nationalistic interests, Valter Birsa, aka probably the best Slovene player right now (playing in Auxerre) has signed a contract with Genoa. To be transfered in June. That's lovely.

Edit : news from 15 minutes ago - Matavž is officially a Napoli player. Damn...

SUPEREDIT : Torres is officially Chelsea.

Yeah, that's the incident I had in mind. Sometimes I wonder if I just imagined it. Absolutely atrocious. It's why I would think it apt if Liverpool don't win another trophy.

Anyway...Harry Redknapp as a manager. He's an odd one in terms of player
management. You have players who follow him about seemingly very loyal
to him and not the club (Defoe); and then you have those he alienates
pretty badly. Makes me wonder what the team chemistry is like within the
club.

I'm pretty sure some club would take a chance with Tevez if he starts up again. The game has had quite a few of troublemakers and they tend to find a place. But if Tevez starts whinging about missing his family then he really should just move back home. I wouldn't find it annoying if he did.

:D on Johnson. Another player who is out of sorts and playing in the wrong position at the moment. (On the field? :P)

Even in the Championship things are strange. Leeds and Norwich have done
exceptionally well and looks like they'll stay up. You hear
commentators mentioning little things during highlights and stuff, and I
remember one during a Norwich match (naturally) that they don't want to
be 8 points off the pace. Considering we only just got promotion and
are up there seemingly with a chance of promotion is beyond expectation.
Survival is the first thing to achieve.

What? We have a topic? :D

I honestly thought it would take Man City more time to start challenging, but it certainly looks like they're getting there. Seems like Mancini is doing a pretty nifty job there at the moment. Maybe he'll get the time to actually carry out the project.

Last day of the transfer window. Be interesting to see if there will be any major changes to personnel.

Actually, what do you think of the system of the transfer window: good or bad?

I like the transfer window mostly because of all the excitement on transfer deadline day. I'm watching sky sports news now with excitement which is unusual.

So far Torres is heading to London to talk to Chelsea and Andy Carroll is heading to Liverpool for talks as his replacement, another player who is being way overrated because he is English. Suarez has already signed for Liverpool. I'm hoping United make a late move for someone but I know theres virtually no chance of it happening.

On Harry Redknapp I absolutely detest him he is a despicable man. The way he plays the media to tap players up using his friends in the press he even launched his own campaign to be England manager with Capello still in the job he seems to have bluffed his way into that position now too and I don't know how. He got Spurs into 4th? No he didn't years of spunking huge amounts of cash into the team got them there, I look at their team and I can't see any of his signings actually being a success. All their best players were either there before he arrived or it was revealed Levi had to go over his head to sign them. He's like a poundstretchers version of Mourinho. Don't get me started on his son or those Wii ads.

I just heard on Metro Radio that Newcastle have rejected the bid... Which was £30,000,000! So no transfer for Carroll. I say we should've let him go. With £30,000,000 we could have bought something way more useful... Like Blackpool tower or something.

Apparently he has been sent to Liverpool to await them striking a deal so he can have talks and I heard the bid was £35m but they are holding out for more. Do you think hes worth that?

No way. He's a good player playing for an below average team. I doubt he's worth anything more than 10 mill. The only reason he's been given high praise is because he was labelled as "The future Alan Shearer" because he was given the no. 9 shirt.

I haven't heard much from the last hour, last I heard was that Liverpool were refusing to talk about any of their deals until they've gone through and that the Carrol bid was rejected (could've misheard with all the noise though).

Yeah, Redknapp does manage to do quite a bit of business through the press. Strange that no-one seems to complain about it. His recent record in terms of expenditure is a cause for concern (Southampton and Portsmouth as far as I'm concerned), especially if they don't keep getting into the top four. That's what essentially happened to Leeds I think.

Aside from the old English players are over-rated they are also over-priced. Carroll for £30 million plus? That's silly. I can understand it when the new regulations about foreign players really hit home but not at the moment.

The transfer window makes things interesting from a neutral point of view; absolutely nervewracking for the fans of a team who has the current hot player of the moment. Is it just me or do genuinely good players tend to only move in the summer?

It's stuff like this which makes me want to install Football Manager again...

I agree the best players tend to only go in the summer but thats often because they are cup tied in Europe alot of the time. Also I'm getting the football manager feeling too  I keep having to remind myself I'll just win the league within 5 years and get bored with it again.

The thing about Carroll is he is young but he has only had one good season in the premier league thats not enough to spunk £35m on him. If Darren Bent is worth £24m then I have to agree with Harry and say Carroll is worth around £10m. Apparently Newcastle have now rejected a second bid and United are in for Charlie Adam.

Going back to the Torres thing real quick, on the one hand I can understand him wanting to leave if he can't get into the champs league, but I think he shoulda played out the rest of the season to try and earn a spot there instead of requesting a transfer to another team. If, at the end of the season, Liverpool aren't where he wants to be, then by all means go. But to abandon your team mid-season is kinda douchey.

Having said that, I'm glad Liverpool were able to grab both Suarez and Carroll (even though he carried a huge price tag). Hopefully now they can string a couple more wins together and start playing like the team they should.

Torres: understandable why he went to Chelsea with respect to trophies. If memory serves he went to Liverpool to win things, and that just hasn't happened. He's also been quite vocal about the need to spend to buy players. Seeing things lurch from bad to worse under Hicks and Gillett (remember them?) pretty much dampens their enthusiasm.

It is a kick to the teeth for Liverpool (and fans) though because of the statement he made after his move (stuff about 'best clubs in the world' and all that).

Carroll: what can I say....let the mud-slinging begin!

On the Torres thing apparently he wanted to leave last year but Hodgson talked him into staying, his comments just go to show theres no loyalty in football at all. Theres rumours going round that there was problems between him and Gerrard/Carragher too but its just rumours. I can see why he would want to leave but not why he would put the boot in with his comments unless something really upset him or hes just a b*tch.

Andy Carroll I laughed my t*ts off at that one it makes absolutely no sense, its what Comoli did at Spurs when Jol wanted a holding midfielder he bought him a striker that they didn't need. He has had half a good season in the premier league, he is out injured for months isn't it? has been in court three times this season alone, is possibly going to jail and he is nothing but a big battering ram of a striker who is fantastic in the air signed by a team with no wingers. Also didn't the court order him to live with Kevin Nolan? Hows that going to work now?

Looking at Liverpools team they have Lucas, Poulsen, Meireles, Gerrard, Shelvey, Kuyt, Jovanovich, Ngog, Carroll and Suarez. Thats one winger, four strikers and a bunch of central midfielders I don't see a formation there thats going to fit everyone in and keep them all happy signing Charlie Adam would have just added to the problem. I thought they would have made a winger and a leftback or centreback their priority ahead of trying to get Adam.

Spurs baffled me the most though with their bids for Adam, Beckham and signing Pienaar. The last thing Spurs need is more attacking midfielders they need a holding midfielder and a striker who actually scores. They make a half assed bid for Forlan on the last day and thats it? They are fighting for a champions league spot and two of the teams they are fighting with have just strengthened. What are they playing at? Did they do any scouting or just say "hhhmmm other teams are trying to sign this guy he must be good"? Then theres their £250k bid for Phil Neville I can just picture David Moyes face when he saw that one. Then that dirty scumbag Redknapp goes on sky sports news again talking about other teams players he would like to sign and no one reports him for tapping up. If it was Houlier everyone would be b*tching about it. I mean he actually phoned sky sports news to go on and talk about these players, you wouldn't catch Wenger or Sir Alex at that. The man is utterly classless.

I think that was just for the duration of his court case, which was over about a month or so ago.
Anyway, thanks for the £35 mill Liverpool!

The court case was dropped due to the inabilty of the CPS to ensure a prosecution, so any conditions have also been cancelled.

Damn that ruins a potentially comical situation. Not that it needs anymore comedy after paying £35m for him. Liverpools christmas parties just got a hell of alot more interesting atleast. Maybe they just wanted to sign a striker capable of fending off Suarez when he feels peckish and wants to snack on someone.

Well...seeing that Nolan is the captain maybe they would have had Carroll stay with Gerrard at Liverpool.

Really not sure about these football directors who buy players with seemingly no input from the manager. A strange set up if the two don't get along or just wasn't the way things were supposed to be (Keegan and Wise at Newcastle). That 'director' really should just be the manager's personal assistant as far as I'm concerned.

Teams that do well at the top of the Premier League don't have that set up, though I hear they do on the continent.

What i find highly amusing is....Liverpool fans are ona completely different planet to all others.

I mean, if Hodgeson had sold Torres and bought Caroll (for 35 mill) they would have calling for his head.....but 'King' Kenny does it..and its great business....

Whats even funnier is...Caroll has now come out and said he didn't want to join them lmao....

Oh whats even better is the Liverpool fans who are somehow managing to blame this on Hodgson, apparently he somehow broke Torres' spirit so badly with his style of play that Torres just couldn't stay. They live in a bizarre fantasy world. I find their attempts to blame Hodgson for everything highly amusing. This isn't aimed at Darth Nemesis by the way he seems level headed, its Liverpool fans in general.

I think that Caroll thing is going to ignite because Alan Pardew basically came out and called him a liar. Its all so undignified its glorious.

That whole director of football thing I think they do it in Europe and they definately do it in American sports with a general manager then a head coach. I don't like it, to me it seems like going to the supermarket and having someone else put whatever they want in your basket while you have no input.

It works in Europe though...and well.

English football, it's always been a no-goer...

But anyway, on to more important things, who's up for a Torres hattrick on Sunday? rofl...
