Could have been more than 3-1 in the end up, Norwich had chances from what I saw.

Owen Hargreaves returned to training today, although I think it could be over for him I'm praying he makes it back. He is still our best midfielder, 2 years after he got injured he still hasn't been replaced.

Yeah, I don't really see any holding midfielders in Man Utd's squad. Given how the modern game is. ('Modern' he says...urgh....)

Though I've always found it odd that no-on really replaced van Nistelrooy as an out-and-out striker myself. Team goals are good, gives balance to the team. Maybe I just need to check this season's stats so far, I'm sure I'm missing something.

How can anyone replace Van Nistelrooy though? He is the best pure goalscorer I've ever seen. I don't think we will ever have a poacher of that magnitude again. We play slightly differently now but as far as poaching is concerned I think Hernandez is as close as we will get, not that he is just a poacher but at the minute his overall game is a bit sloppy. His movement and finishing is absolutely fantastic but everything else like his hold up play and passing can be hit and miss.

He's still fairly young, so hopefully he can still develop. Rooney seems to have peaked.

Filling in van Nistelrooy's role. Probably not. And since then there hasn't really been that sort of threat (in my mind at least). Mind you, the demolition of Roma in the Champions League was a sight to behold.

EDIT: a-ha! I see a DA2 symbol. Had to put anyone into a full-nelson, Druss?

I think we have missed Van the man, he was my favourite player when he was there. Since then I don't think our chance conversation rate has been the same.

Ah I hate that 7-1 result. Its the only United match thats been on tv and I've missed in the last 11 years to my knowledge. I went to the bar to watch it but we were in this other bar first where my mate thought he had pulled, he failed to register that these 2 women were clearly nuts and jesus freaks trying to convert us to their ways. They spiked his drink, he turned purple, puked in the street and then I had to carry him to his flat before getting the train back home missing the entire match. I do not remember it fondly.

Aye it arrived today while I was upstairs. Postman is lucky or I would have went all Hulk Hogan and ripped my top before slapping him in the Sharpshooter for his crimes.

Whats all this England captaincy nonesense thats going on again? First they are making way too big a deal out of it and secondly John Terry again? Really?

Schteve McClaren is one of the pundits on Sky for the United match. He is messing with my mind because I think he is still talking with that fake Dutch accent. He's definately talking like whoever he is speaking to doesn't speak English.

I can't think of another team that makes such a big deal about their captaincy. Then when they do make such a big deal they give it to people of the caliber of Terry, Gerrard and Ferdinand. Thank christ I'm not English.

Taking a lead from OBaka's fourth official question: What exactly do captains do?

well...in this day and age...not much......I'd say certainly more important in club games than country.

In club, its the leader on the pitch, someones head drops.....that person picks them up again....but seriously, at international level....they are not even needed. If someone needs motivating or 'picking up' at that level, they shouldn't be there in the first place.

That doesn't sound like its even needed at club level either, there should be more than one person doing that. Kinda makes a mockery of Tevez being captain too. My understanding was they are supposed to be the only person allowed to have a word with the ref but thats obsolete these days too.

Its a strange one too in that its an almost pointless position but if someone you hate gets captaincy of your team then you almost feel offended. I'm sickened when I see Ferdinand with the United armband but don't really care when its anyone else. I just think its nice for them and thats it.

On a side note, when Chris Smalling talks he sounds almost exactly like Moss from The IT Crowd.

What do captains do? I want to answer that with the following: they kiss the badge! (Because theirs have extra cinnamon.)

Hit DJ's for not playing the song they want on in a club, sleep with players girlfriends, miss drug tests, strap people to dentist chairs and cover the person in beer head to toe, sleep with grannys ... Surely that's in the Captain hand book with regrads to leading your men to glory?

I think you forgot assaulting bouncers from behind, abusing American tourists the day after 9/11, constant hypocrisy and having a face thats just begging to be set on fire.

Gits. How dare you use my own words against me.

It was squeaky bum time there at the end of that match, I was sweating it everytime the ball came into our box with no Vidic in there. Smalling didn't look quite so assured tonight. Hernandez with a good bit of poaching though got us through and won me the money to buy Crysis 2 next week. I think I'll call my first born Chicharito.

No, you're not alone. You can count me as a Norwich fan too.

Ferguson's ban: wonder if it will stand though. Might get downgraded or something. Understandably some fans are taking the 'about time something was done about him' line of thought. (It does remind me of a 'my team...your team' sort of thing.) Compared to certain incidents recently it seems somewhat harsh, but that's probably due to the FA's suddenly discovered backbone (due to be lost any time soon) as they want to make an example of him.

Now, I don't mean to defend Ferguson; but I am noting that his treatment seems more reactionary than following any sort of established practiced protocol. Also note that Avram Grant has also been charged by the FA as well.

Oh...just saw rumblings coming from Mancini that Tevez is tired. Again.

The world be a strange place. (I declared my allegiance quite a few pages back.)

At least we won't get the 'glory hunter' tag put on us. We are doing well though, and if QPR do get docked points (though I think that's unlikely)...we go top.

Norwich fans are crawling out of the woodwork now that the big time beckons :P

I think Sir Alex can still appeal his ban so it probably won't end up 5 matches. From what he was saying it sounded almost like he is going to point to the refs decisions in the Chelsea match and declare "Fair comment". Whats the point of insisting managers talk to the press after a match then punishing them for giving their opinion? Or rather punishing certain managers and not others. If it was Redknapp who made a comment like that....

Feels like you're bringing up old Twitch face quite often, Druss. Of course he is a successful ENGLISH manager so it's no big surprise he gets away with things.

As for old Whiskey nose, well he's been one of the very best for ages now and he is also a sir, I reckon that makes him almost untouchable. ;P

I hate him like you wouldn't believe Natt. He annoys me to no end and if I met him in the street I'd boot him right in his hang dog jowls. Everything from the way he sells his players down the creek after a result, always having an excuse that its not his fault guv' honest, the way he uses the media to tap up players taking it to a level no one else even comes close to, his bare faced lies, trying to talk himself into the England job while 1) he is still at Spurs and 2) its Capello's job and finally his unbelievable luck in landing the Spurs job when he did coupled with the messes he has left other teams in.

You can level some of those accusations at alot of managers but no one does them with such a bungling lack of grace and character that that spineless turd does. He always seems to get away with it too.

I'm more worried about the Bolton game at the weekend than I'am about Sir Alex's ban. We are lacking in fit defenders and may have to rush Jonny Evans back despite his poor form this season.
